First time viewer here! One thing that caught my eye about your setup: it’s very modest compared to some of the other vinyl RUclipsrs I’ve seen. And I appreciate that! My first child will be turning one in a couple months. I’m trying to figure out how to balance being a dad and a collector. Like you mentioned, having less money is one issue. Plus less time to listen, and less space, since we want to create safe play space for our baby. I’ve often dreamed of having the collector’s den, with walls stuffed with albums, video games, knickknacks, and equipment. Life is making me realize that that may not happen exactly as I dream it, or at least not immediately. So to see someone inspiring with a reasonable setup, while also making the best of family life is the kind of content I need! 😊
adding a baby to life is a whole new journey, congratulations on year one!! you made it lol. Yeah I don't have a lot of records probably 200 I think, and as you mentioned I do look at those record listening dens and dream of that space too. I just try to work with what I have, and what I come across at the goodwill or thrift stores. I try to make that part of the hobby, yeah I can buy such and such records, but how about I wait for it to come to me at the price I like - makes it fun when I finally add that record. I also started to add my kids to the hobby, when I listen I tell them about the artist, I use to get annoyed when they would come in but now its a place we all enjoy music. also the first baby kept getting the records, so we use to have a door on the record cabinet, the second baby was ok with records so I was finally able to get a shelf that was open. third baby, he missed up a record or two lol but he's better at it now.
Agree with all of the reasons you mention. Also very refreshing to see someone with what I'd consider and call a "normal hifi setup" that most people rock at home, and are able to afford. Mine is similar to yours, slighly more expesive but not by much. It still gives me joy of listening, probably even more then for those who keep chasing the rainbow and keep upgrading their components until they reach their 'nirvana'. Keep it up, babe!
I’m sure that becomes an obsession always pushing a greater sound. I have a friend engineer who stays simple with her record player because she doesn’t want to become obsessed about it. She’s saves that for work 😂.
Your lava lamp was messing with my mind. I had to pause the video to get a closer look lol. See through base made it look like it was hovering in mid air. It’s interesting how you said you felt out of place at a record store. We are all one. Glad you’re in the music lovers community. Thanks for the video.
lol ohh the lava lamp got you! hahah.. Oh yeah I don't know why I feel like that - even now, I still feel like everyone is looking at me and thinking I don't know what Im doing...lol
I've found, that in general, women do not like cables/speaker wires in the room etc, I have encountered and have had this discussion quite a few times. Hifi can easily look untidy, cluttered and messy. Men in general don't seem to mind this as much as women do. This is just my opinion, based on personal experiences. Great channel, thank you, subscribed
oh thank you for subscribing. ok you're so right about the cables lol.. my husband record set up is a mess and he's ok with that.. me on the other hand I try to hide cables and make it LOOK very tidy.
I agree completely. My poor Dad, who loved the Big Band Sound and Jazz stars from his childhood had to listen to Humprey Lyttleton on a Monday evening through headphones, while Mum ingested her evening dose of forgettable Coronation Street. The cables were well hidden around the perimeter of the LR carpet, while the speakers had to stay hidden behind the curtain(s) at each end of the window facing into the LR. They were Celestion Ditton 15's as I recall, so quite decent. It made me smile that all that white-coated technology had been devoted to end up doing its best to penetrate a curtain, LOL. Not only that, but the hifi (Aurex mini set-up with a B & O Turntable) had to be hidden within a small sideboard, making changing a disk fraught with risk. My mother was fond of antiques and she was not going to have the room's image desecrated by cables and 'ugly' hi-fi modules.
I appreciate the fact that your stereo system is nothing super expensive and that you put it all together yourself. It is good to see people who are in touch with reality and who know what really matters...
You struck a chord with me when you said you don't feel like a fan until you just listen to the band's music off of RUclips. I'll usually buy the vinyl and if I really love the artist, I'll buy the album on vinyl and cd. And if it's someone I'm a super die hard fan of, I'll buy the vinyl record and cd from them when I go to a show and get them to sign the albums afterwards. Good insight on record collecting. I like how you had the Seinfeld dvds in your hand too! Best, Steve
there is something to it about owning the music, for a while I use to buy a lot off iTunes, I have so much music I forgot about in my library and artist who I never followed up on. when I streamed apple music, forget about it those artist I long forgot about. the cds and vinyl in my collection become part of my life now I feel like I know these people haha.. so cool to get the music signed! that's a good idea, I wish I did that when I went to more shows when I was younger and kid free lol
I've never come across a woman who was infected with the 'obsession'. In my 20's, every lunchtime in Manchester was devoted to hunting down obscure 45's on Shudehill or over at Mazel's, just down from the fire station. I suppose it had the side-benefit of mid-day exercise, as if there was time, the Co-Op on Deansgate was a further source of 7" reductions (failed to chart). I had a pal who worked in a different company (I worked in a Bank) and we would meet and compare notes and tips. He sadly died of MS a few years ago, but our mutually reaching for the same (first UK) Marvin Gaye album on Shudehill led to a friendship that lasted 50 years. Happy memories.
what a perfect way to spend a lunch break! Ah. what great memories. I wish I got into records when I had my friend group in my 20s, it would have been fun to go to record shops together, Im a little jealous of the GEN X generation for having such a big music culture when they were teenagers.
Interesting topic and video Monie. Many women Ive known over the years are only interested in the hits so they don’t care about the album or cd. There are plenty of men that way too. I realize I’m horribly generalizing but I’m only commenting on my experiences and relationships, including my wife. But she does have a handful of artists where she will listen to the whole album. But she doesn’t have that collector type mentality. One thing I’d like to add is a couple of people inspired me to start up a channel and one of them was Melinda Murphy. I liked her style of videos. I liked your comment about not feeling like a fan if you don’t own a physical copy of an artist. Well said and I totally agree. Have a great week!
The interactions I’ve had with my female friends about music is they are OK with just the hits and I tell them going deeper there are great gems but you don’t know until you do it yourself. way to go building your your channel! It’s really rewarding sharing on RUclips
That is a fantastic topic and a very entertaining video. I retired a couple of years ago, and since then I’ll do a local record show every couple of months. My wife very graciously does these with me (probably to make sure I sell more than I buy!) Since she’s been doing this she’s gone from zero interest in vinyl, to calling me sometimes from a thrift shop or estate sale that she’s found some good stuff. It really is a great hobby, and it’s nice to see the enthusiasm surrounding music collecting. At the shows we see more men than ladies, but there are many who are extremely dedicated and knowledgeable collectors. Great job!
thank you. one thing I do appreciate there is lots of encouragement from the men who love vinyl to welcome women to join in, I would imagine other male hobbies might be harder on the girls like video games lol.. that is so cool you take your wife along with you, she's so sweet she is looking out for those deal - that's how my mom got into it, she started to see Elvis records at the goodwill and when she showed me I thought she was giving it to me but she said NO for my collection lol
I have always been pleased to see women involved in listening to music and of course collecting records. My wife prefers to watch TV or do something when she listens to music. I think that's the biggest issue, women can't sit for two or three hours in silence and just listen to music... They definitely have to do something or think, so it's hard for them to concentrate on music. Also, many young girls buy records as if they were jewelry, red, green, gold, etc., while they are a little concerned with hi-fi and technical issues. Keep loving the music, I wish the best for your beautiful family!
So funny that women don’t know how to stay still, it’s an issue I have!! Music and a really good movie scene is the only thing that makes me sit and take in the moment. I have so much to learn about how to improve sound, I haven’t gotten into the mo fi stuff. Thankful for those who take the time to teach a little here on RUclips about it
Lovely video, thanks for sharing. We’re more music enthusiasts than collectors. We prefer vinyl but really have slowed down over the last year and buy mostly CD’s. One is the expense of vinyl, the other is I have Parkinson’s and CD’s, for now, are easier to handle these days. Eventually I may go to streaming, ie-Eversolo DMP-A6, etc. We do follow Melinda Murphy who does an amazing job! We just subscribed and look forward to following your journey!🙏🏻-Chris & Beth🎧
that's so sweet, thanks for subscribing.music enthusiasts is great! I like to call myself music lover, music junkie lol I have gotten more cds this year than in any other year myself, its cheaper and easy to handle and doesn't take too much space, but first love is the vinyl hahaha
That's kind of an odd question to me. At my local record store, I see a lot of women, especially young women, shopping for and buying records. I love to see it too! Sometimes they're looking at movies, once in awhile one will look through CDs, but it's mostly records. Maybe it's not half of the record shoppers being women, but it's definitely a sizeable percentage of them. I'm over there at least once a week, it's a fairly big store, I'm there when it's busy and I'm there when it's slow, but there's almost always some women, and they're almost always looking at records.
Well, that's your anecdotal experience. My anecdotal experience. Here in North Carolina (I don't know where you are stationed), I visit a good many different record stores (& record shows) pretty frequently & it is obvious & undeniable, in the various places I know at least, that women vinylists are in the minority (profoundly so). Beyond our respective & different personal experiences, however, there is an area where we can perhaps find common ground: RUclips. It seems obvious that on RUclips the vast majority of vinyl commentators are male. Why is that the case? Or is that another "odd question"? P.S. You might want to read some of the other comments in this thread to see what others have experienced.
@@marcsmirnoff936 An anecdote from my personal experience is all that I was really intending to share in this situation. I'm in the Twin Cities, MN though if you're wondering.
@@marcsmirnoff936 Oh really? These internet comments are really something. Nope. The title of the video contains a question. I found it odd, so I watched and commented on it. I suppose calling it "odd" is a judgement, so sure, but a pretty innocuous one. So, are you implying I meant something negative? How exactly is it that you interpreted my comment?
@@sykodjiuia I don't think all judgements are "negative." Praise is a form of judgment too. Either way,, judgments go beyond "sharing." I gave two reasons for why I believe your conclusion seems wrong to me: 1. Others have had different personal experiences from you (me & other commentators on this thread) & 2. there are far more male vinyl channels than female vinyl channels on RUclips. You've said other stuff, but you haven't addressed either of these arguments. Thanks.
It's different now, because us Millennials and Gen Z turned the resurgence of vinyl into a culture and A LOT of young women in my neck of the woods are into it. Also, given you're into Post-Rock.... have you heard or heard of Night Verses? Jon from ARTV here on RUclips turned me on to this purely instrumental Progressive Metal band from Fullerton, California when he briefly reviewed their newest album "Every Sound Has A Color In The Valley Of Night" in his latest video "The BEST Albums of 2024 (Mid-Year)". So, I bought the copy of this record that I saw at Press (a Vinyl Cafe in my neighbourhood) the other day and IT'S A MASTERPIECE!
I am hoping the younger women and men keep the vinyl alive, we gotta thank Taylor for bringing on the younger girls, sometimes an entry artist is a good start, then the more you brows the more you start to see other artist. I looked up Night Verse reminds a little of the band I like "this will destroy you" a little harder. a vinyl cafe?! oh I wish I had one here, id be there all the time.
@@MonieMuse 1) When I listened to the Night Verses album today...the tuning of the heavy guitar parts brought a band called Sleep Token to mind, but I also caught some references to Isis and Deftones. 2) I've been to Press so many times that I'm on a first name basis with the staff now and I don't have to pay for coffee anymore! Hahahaha. 3) I saw This Will Destroy You open for one of my favourite bands, The Ocean Collective, in London in October. I hadn't heard their stuff before that, but their set was awesome!
Awesome subject Monie ! I'm afraid my answer might cause me grief so I'll phrase it delicately. In general , Women are more fiscally responsible than guys & aren't as quick to drop a hundred dollars on a record they can stream for free or buy on cd for $10-$20 Dollars. When you buy the groceries weekly you see how a budget can easily be thrown out of balance by luxury items like OG pressings of vinyl. Welcome To July ! ☀️
Great point. You’ll be shocked how much make up or women’s clothing is, crazy expensive!! Why not use it for music you’ll enjoy no matter what the trend 😁
Must be where you live. I’m in Canada and I do local record shows and Women make up 40% of the buyers. Maybe the cold climate makes the hobby more attractive. Though I admit they are younger pre-family or older in age. Also many couples enjoy the hobby together.
oh I love that! When I went to Seattle I saw young families shopping in the record store, I think its a sweet thing for a family to do together. ok so now I just gotta get the girls watching vinyl videos on RUclips lol oh and comment - so far I don't think any women comments on this video lol Oh and currently A LOT of great music is coming out of CANADA!
This subject resonates with me because I just happened to look at my RUclips demographics for the first time two days ago, and I was alarmed to see that it said my audience was 100% male. (I know there are at least a couple of women who watch regularly, but they must be less than half a percent.) I'm now asking myself if there's anything I could or should do to make my videos appeal more to women.
my stats was %100 male for a long time, finally now im at %30 women. Yes I think of the same thing to, how to open my channel up to more people, finally the younger demographic is watching my channel too.
Great to discover your channel. I’m happy that in my small town the record store owner is a woman, she has a young women working there in the summer. I’m also non binary, and I’ve seen other women too at a few shops!
oh it would be so cool to own a record shop - hard work though! I love encouraging the younger generation to get into music too, I feel like its a gift that keeps on giving through out life and the different chapter of life.
Lack of exposure to vinyl record collectors could be a major reason for why a lot of women just don't pick up the hobby of record collecting. Believe it or not, back in the 70s, when I was young kid, I would be with my mom or my aunt as they went to record shops! For them, record collecting WAS about social gatherings, which was a good point that you had brought up by the way (house parties, and what attracted my mom to my dad was they BOTH LOVED DANCING, and they were very good at it, didn't rub off on me, though😅!) Back then, it was about friends and family coming together to enjoy the latest dance records and socialize. My aunt has a large collection to this day, and growing up I didn't think it was unusual. A lot of my cousins and people near my parent's ages STILL have their records, and have had them for many years, some of them being my mom's friends, older women. They just are not into the newer music, but they have collected records in the past, and still have their collections.
oh that's so good and how fun your mom and aunts would go record shopping together, and then have dance parties! what a golden age. you might have helped me solve a mystery, I was given a box of records of Donna Summers, Santana , Stevie Wonder and they have the pervious owner initials - Ive wondered who would write on their records... maybe when they were social with them they could find who's record was who's. haha.. I bet those records bring back memories that makes them feel young again.
I have been collecting records since I was 14 and became a vinyl DJ in my late 30s. Initially, the record collecting scene felt a bit intimidating as a young woman, but I grew more confident over the years. Now, I don't even think twice about it because I know my stuff!. Great video! Gave you a sub.
@@djstephwest great to find your channel! amazing to hear you deejay must be so fun! Yeah getting into records is a growing process and I love that about it
Great video Monie 👏🏻👏🏻. So rad that friend of yours helped on gear setup; I’ve had to “learn on the fly and still feel I’ve got a ways to go. The kid “cameos” are my fave 🤣
In our house, I'm into music/records and my wife is into books. It's been that way for 20 years and seems to work. Thanks for getting me to think about this.
Ok, so my take on this is a bit different, and it could be the area i live in. When I worked at a small record store from 2012-2020, in like 2012-2013 when vinyl records were starting to gain popularity again, the younger customers that were in like high school and even a few in middle school, they were primarily women. I also sell at a lot of local pop ups etc, where vintage clothing and art is sold. When I sell records at pop ups it is easily 50/50 between men and women. Record conventions though when i sell at those, it does to be primarily men. And lastly through my years as a store clerk and selling at record shows and pop ups and meeting all types of people, Women that know what records they want save the money and are not afraid to buy an expensive record, where as guys kick the tire and try to get a deal on something higher priced, women buyers tend to not hesitate.
thats so cool to see first hand who is actually buying records, I was part of that 2012 girl crowd who loves vintage clothes too. the strange thing, I think younger women like cassette tapes.. I haven't tapped much into that
Monie, what a great topic I have been wondering that same thing for a long time. Although there is a few ladies on here that do have a record channel, there should be more
I got into the RUclips vinyl world on accident lol I talked about my records once and then finally got some traffic to my channel. my approach is learning about the art of record collecting, and being myself, it'll be intreating to see more females talking about their love for music too.
Awesome video. One thing i've noticed watching 'VC' RUclips videos is that generally girls & women aren't really into the whole 'audiophile' culrure the way that boys & men are.
Yes you're so right about audiophile, I would love someone to improve my stereo for me but to do the work myself would not be fun. I should spend sometime watching those RUclips videos to see if I find it interesting.
Wonderful video Monica. I really wish there were more women making videos and I am so happy you and the other women you mentioned here took the plunge. So glad Gus is supportive of it and joins in as my wife has no interest. I wish more of the Women In Vinyl community would join in.
Thank you! I remember being nervous about talking about records on RUclips, my friend who I mentioned encouraged me that it’s not important to have the largest collection, just enjoy collecting and discovering music. I bet your wife enjoys that you have something you love and can focus on. Too bad she doesn’t like shopping w u . Gus likes to shop for video games and that hobby I’m so bored!! lol so I understand
Exactly!! I hope to encourage more women to join the party 🎈 when they get into it though it’s fun how excited they are to tell me about their newest finds
That’s good news! Very hopeful for the next generation. When I started RUclips my audience was %100 male, now I’m at %30 female so you’re right the girls are joining in which is great cause we always wanna make everyone feel welcomed to be part of the music experience.
oh awesome to see my videos have reached the Netherlands! be sure to share music w me here lol I had a subscriber share some French pop music with me and I am in love!
I'm only 24, but I've been a vinyl curator since about 14. I dont get out to record shops as much as in the past because i have a large collection, and there is only 1 within 45 mins, but i do stilo dig at several thrift shops here in town. In about the last 3 years, i have seen more girls digging alongside me than i ever did in the past just my observation fun video idea. 😁
Yes so good to hear, I am discovering through this video that women are out and about at record stores, picking up records and enjoying the hobby. Some women might just approach it differently
My upstairs neighbor, who's female, streams and plays vinyl. There are some out there! But then I have a friend, also female, who didn't want the extra blu-ray player I wasn't using because she thought it would be too difficult to set up (despite the fact that I already have it set up); she likes things "simple" and isn't that comfortable with electronics. Never mind that she navigates her cell phone just fine! There's a lot like her out there, too 😁 A very good point you made is that one need not have a fancy or expensive stereo to enjoy music. If a piece of music truly moves you, I think it will do that regardless of what kind of rig you have. Granted, the better the system the better it will sound (theoretically), but in the end it's supposed to be about the music. If I hear a song or piece of music I'm really into, what it's played on is secondary. If more people had a similar sense of things, maybe more women would get into vinyl (or CDs).
This is a very good topic - to be honest I kind of thought this was going to be a woke video - blaming the world (men specifically) but it’s not and it’s great you made the comments that women are more social and usually very busy and can’t just sit down and listen to records. I sell records at shows all over - more and more women are getting into vinyl! It’s so great to see and even more fun to hear they’re perspective- thank you for a honest (on not a whiney) video - sure this a a male dominated hobby- but so is sitting around smoking cigars! Can’t wait to see more women (and my wife) get into records - good times!!❤
I have found music really brings people together no matter what they look like, believe , its like how can we deny these songs move our human heart.. i am thankful that the men I know have been really encouraging, and even those who watch my RUclips videos, they're always kinda. I know I don't know everything and they help me out. im glad im not into video games or Star Wars cause those guys will eat anyone alive LOL
@@MonieMusethank you for your reply and the great video- I am going to subscribe to your channel- I just started mine in March - check it out if you have time @goldenimagemusic - stay cool!!
I feel like women in the VC are better represented on Instagram than on RUclips honestly. I follow a lot of women who spin vinyl on Insta, whether they have many followers or very few.
oh really! probably easier and faster to make videos there, and VERY SOCIAL there. I am on the opposite end of that cause I am NERVOUS to really post REELS on instagram, I do it but I never want it to go viral cause people on instagram don't know me and those comment sections are tough.
We do it concerns me that some people are obsessed in what they want to see instead of digging deeper. LOL but like looking for music in the previous decades. Maybe the AI will open more eyes in the meantime just do what makes you happy. Your community will discover you. Stay safe & Keep spinnin’
@@MonieMuse be sure to check out a song called better than nothing by a band called riarossa from Baton Rouge it’s got this like dream pop sound with a fleetwood vibe but it’s just a song that transcends you can’t explain it you either get it or not. Keep diggin’ and stay safe. I really do need to do another video on the hi-fi channel my main editing machine has gone down and I have Ben waiting for Apple to announce a new big screen iMac. Anyway this weeks video is back to the mode railway where I will attempt to mode Bioluminescence stay safe.
I’m almost 50 and have been a professional music listener since I was 3. I absolutely love audio gear and it’s truly my only passion. Music is my life. I don’t need anyone to go buy music with, it’s such a personal experience. I also don’t just buy any new release on vinyl, I am all about buying the bands/music I’ve always been into. Sadly, in this day and age, music isn’t revered. It takes too far of a back seat. Bands aren’t real bands anymore, they rely too much on computers and auto-tuning and samples than learning actual instruments. Music was all about buying something and sharing it with your friends the next day. Streaming destroyed a lot of that as well. Industry is not the same, but it’s also not improving in any way.
Oh wow! I never thought about how streaming has destroyed the sharing process! You’re right!! My friend would come up and tell me about the band they just discovered, saw or bought. Now - no one in real life says “you gotta hear this!”
Fascinating, believable commentary, thanks. What's funny is that, in my (male) experience, it's been females who have the most visceral & immediate reactions to music. (Generally speaking, of course.) I've also noticed that females tend to be more openminded to artists they don't know or haven't heard before & less tempted to pre-judge records by genre or reputation. (Generally speaking....) Plus, women tend to be less grumpy than male vinylists. (Why are so many record-store owners grumpy?) They also don't try as hard to be perceived as hipsters (gag). These are some of the reasons I wish there were more women vinylists.
lol so funny, when I do come across grump record store owners the trick is to start naming bands and artist they might love and they light up , only works if they're older than me, the young ones I leave alone hahahah I think you're right, women can lighten the mood and not take things so seriously, I love music that moves me so im super open to new artist too.
@@MonieMuse I think that's right-with the right approach even grumps can cheer up. And I think it's great that you make an effort with them. But I love music because it brings me joy so all this grumpiness I encounter in some record stores feels like the opposite of what should be there.
I've been seeing quite a lot of women at my local record stores lately. Also there are lots of tourists in my city and I've been seeing Norwegian and German moms with their daughters digging for records. I'm always curious what people are looking for at the shops and sometimes I'm lucky that one of the grumpy old collectors are willing to talk to me, but the more diversity in the community the better for sure.
To me is a half and half sometimes I see ladies doing collect and sometimes I don't see ladies collect when I dig but shout out to the women that really dig for physical media and props to the some of the ladies you mentioned I subscribe to like Melinda Murphy she like a best friend to me her RUclips video are awesome and amazing. And so many others on the cd vinyl RUclips channel community especially you Monica muse you got the drive and passion for collecting . Myself I always collect last month of June I buy a lot of cds and dvds and little blu rays examples like barns and nobles, monster music, big lots, target and Wal-Mart by next month of August I be digging again. Great video ladies if you love digging like the men I'm with yall 1000% record stores is the best experience always take care have a great 4th of July
Aloha MonieMuse Great Topic! I did see a lot of young ladies at Hungary ear 2023 black Friday RSD. More then guys but must have been for Taylor Swift... Not sure if they were record collectors or just Taylor Swift fans/collectors. There's a lot of young ladies that now starting to share their music on RUclips but they also share other things like fashion, stuff animals, funko pops.... I scroll by but don't care to watch it's Gear towards a younger audience which is great . I do watch the youngest members of the VC, Emma from eight Vinyl low has amazing British blues record albums, & just like you has newer bands I haven't heard of. Watching "Young members of the VC" videos I learned a lot. Of course Melinda Murphy has grown with great knowledge over the few years I've been watching. Omaha intervert, Telegram Sam, has some great records ,I've appreciated learning about. But hardly see her post as much anymore, Groovy lisa has some interesting topics too not only Records. I would love to see a pod cast or a live show of all the women sharing their knowledge & coming together on RUclips. Just like watching "Rachel's ghost" but sticking to topics pretening to collecting music. Which Mazzy, Harry, The Wax , Beatle Babe,& so on joins them. Hopefully you can contact these fellow women collectors on the vc to unite & do a livestream so more women will see these videos and start getting involved. Hope this video of yours finds more women that will reach out to you.... Always looking forward to watching your next video. Mahalo Ed
oh that would be so fun to talk to the girls of the VC. Ive been trying to get vinyl guru to be on but she's busy. I do sub to other female record collectors but you're right they post for a little and then stop making videos.
I think as the vinyl hobby grows I think the interest among women will pick up. The Queen did collect records at one time but other interests took over, especially being a stay at home mom and then grandchildren. She'll listen with me if the mood strikes her , but thats about it!!
Yeah I can see that happening, even I go through season where i gotta do something else. Sometimes its my husbands record playing that reminds me how nice it is to sit down and enjoy the music 😁
I’m also a woman and a vinyl collector. We need to do a hashtag and prompt and encourage all the female collectors to post to generate interest and build a community.
I do see a lot more females at record stores especially younger ones. People like Taylor Swift has brought in a lot of young women who may then branch off into something else. My family could care less about my music, it is a solo venture for me
It is nice how Taylor Swift has brought more attention to the Vinyl medium and I do hope the girls dig deeper and discover so many great artists. When you play your records, do family members come in the room and enjoy it with you? i bet your grandson gonna love your music ❤
I wanted to let you know I have about 10 records from high school about 40 years back. I have Ambrosia's 180. The Who's Face Dances, Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA, Men at Work and quite a few more.
It depends on when you grew up my sister is passionate about music as I am but we both grew up in the 80s and it’s what we both grew up with. We also ride adventures motor bikes and bush walk. Never got into social media or anything like mobile phones
thats super cool, my older sisters weren't into music, more into "dating boys" haha I see how my kids though share music with each other, they play it and dance w each other. its a great bond to share music w each other!
Great video! As a single dude, I think about the Sausage Party Factor of record collecting quite a bit. Your reasons notwithstanding, I still do find it surprising that the VC is like 98% dudes. 😁 But, to be fair, the age demo of VC people seems to be dudes 45 and older. Heck, most of the people who watch my videos are 50+ and, at a 97% clip, Dudes. 😆 Anyway. Keep doing what you're doing, Monie. Excellent topic here! 💯🙂
There aren't any shops in my neighbourhood that sell cd's, vinyl, dvd, 4k blu-ray,... In the bigger cities there are a few shops, but most of them struggle to survive (high rent, not able to compete with Amazon, Mediamarkt, Fnac, Discogs,...). Since vinyl got ridiculously expensive, I see more and more people in the cd section (also younger women). But cd's are now seriously overpriced as well, compared to amazon, ebay, discogs,... Most people just look around without actually buying something I'm afraid. If you can get a cd for 3€ on the internet, no one is going to pay 15€ in a shop. Especially students on a limited budget... Personally I like to watch vc & cd vlogs, but many vlogs are from USA which is mostly classic rock, metal, jazz for the older boys and Lana, Taylor, Olivia, Halsey, Pop Punk & rap for the teen girls. I watched a live @ RSD vlog from a US shop a few months ago, and seems a complete different and older demographic compared to central Europe. European vlogs could bring more diversity, but most people don't have english as mother tongue. Everybody talks English nowadays but not fluent enough for a decent vlog. I have been collecting since I was aware of discogs, and have most of the stuff I like on cd. Only problem is I don't have me-time which is sometimes frustrating as I have tons of music and movies 😅... other hobbies like hiking, cycling + garden, house, family, pets,... There's always something else to do. I don't know many people still collecting music, most are doing outdoor activities like cycling, mtb, hiking, travelling, festivals (but no longer for the music unfortunately) or gaming. Times have changed, also pubs and nightclubs disappear...
@@timchromecast it is changing times, a friend sent me music from Belgium and shared a ton of club CDs! Music I had only heard in movies, it was so cool. I hope to encourage people not to let the art of listening to music go away.
@@MonieMuse that was me, don't make too much promo. Someone was already messaging for free cd's on IG, consider it as your personal hauls 😂 😂 Now with Tour de France on TV, there's almost no time left for listening to music. It's very addictive watching all those beautiful places on tv. There's so much alternatives for listening to music, which is part of the problem (back in the days music was the only distraction) together with the greedyness of the major labels and big media corporations. They just make it impossible for new artists to become the new Beatles, Bowie,... They prefer instant $$$ from viral one hit wonders and all kind of soulless sellout narcissists over investing in a long lasting carreer from talented people. The reason why festivals are facing problems to find headliners... How many artists under 50 can be considered as headliners? Not much! Festival culture will collapse just like club culture did.
Funny I started about 6 weeks ago after watching years of VC and not just seeing myself represented! So thought! I’ll do it myself. Just started but love being part of the community rather than an observer 😂
I understand what you mean. Music used to be dominated by male groups but that has changed. There are more females making music so record collecting is definitely for women too. I enjoy female artists more than ever.✌️
I am loving that women are out there making music, so many great female artist who are songwriters and musicians. The women music lovers are out there, I hope this encourages anyone who may think its just men, see all are welcome too
Your video popped up and I watched it . I help out at our record store here and there’s quite a few female young and older coming in which is awesome. Glad you gave a shout out to Melinda and Hanna. I haven’t met them but I consider them friends ❤
thank you for checking out my channel. I wanted to make a video encouraging anyone that record collecting isn't so complicated, not just for the men just in case thats all they see, , but once you get into it, you figure it out. and how fun it is!
i feel like i see a lotta women in record stores. especially like college aged. i was in a shop in athens georgia yesterday and it was very crowded and easily half customers were women. but we all know the next big record influencer is peeking over your shoulder there. hahahah.
my kids are like where’s Waldo in my videos lol . You’re right I do see women out there looking, I browsed for fun for about 5 years never really bought anything. One day I started seeing albums I loved streaming and said I want this in physical form. I caught the bug
How interesting, I see SO many other women when I go to record stores! Maybe not quite 50/50 but pretty balanced. Of all the "hifi" niches, I find that vinyl is the biggest one for women. I will say that most women aren't as big into it as men. Men I know will have hundreds or thousands of records, whereas other women will have much less. To be fair, I'm a musician and so my social circle is a bit more likely to be into music and high quality audio. But even just when I go to a record store I feel like I see almost as many women as men.
When I first started collecting I just did it, I didn't make it my identity lol now its a little more of who I am because I have gotten super into it. men do get more into it, thousands of records like you said, as for the audiophile niche of it, Im not into that at all, I love how music makes me feel, and when it comes to sound I prefer analog and that's it. I am glad to hear there are more women in the hobby, its hard to tell cause they don't talk about it a lot.
But here’s an interesting thing. Any video I’ve seen put out by a woman gets thousands of views in just a few days. All those guys? Man, they just love to see a woman holding a Van Halen record! That’s not a criticism or a complaint. I just noticed when I see a thumbnail of a woman holding an album, there are always thousands of views. That said, I love to see anybody talking about music that I don’t know well but I’m interested in checking out or someone gushing about an obscure album that I love! It is very cool to hear your explanations. And yeah, the ladies are often minding the kids while the men go hunting for vinyl.
lol you're so right, I see that too. a new female channel pop up and right away has a lot of subs. I know at the end of the day (or video) you have to say something worth listening to, so I do try to put thought and heart into what I make, that is deeper than a "girl holding a record" . no matter what the person looks like, I will come back to watch if they have some good thoughts to share.
@@MonieMuse Thanks for taking time to comment. Any video I’ve seen of women talking about music has been worth it. I sub a few and they really do their homework. You, too! But yes, even last night I saw a thumbnail of a pretty blonde woman holding a record, and the video views were in the thousands and it was only posted 15 hours prior. I have watched one of her videos, and she does do a great job. She has something like 18K subs if my memory isn’t crossing wires. So, anyway, I didn’t mean to say you just have to be pretty to get subs, but in a community dominated by males, a lovely smile on a pretty lady who likes music is a huge draw! Overweight, balding men in their fifties or sixties have no chance to compete for subs! And I add “Ha ha” to that!
from my own experience and from what I've seen, men are more likely to have OCD and end up spending (wasting) money OVER-collecting things like baseball cards, comic books, physical media (records, CDs, DVDs), at least in my generation (gen x) - I'd say 75% of the record shoppers I've seen my age in the stores are men, it gets closer to 50/50 in the younger generations
I think women have other distractions as you have mentioned, like clothes, friends and cosmetics. Record collectors don't generally go to socialise, tend to be more introverts etc.
Great observation! I’m very introverted and been a struggle getting alone time now that I have small children, my records gives me a few moments to myself .
There is a lot of women vinyl collectors, you just won’t see us on RUclips because some of the men on here tend to come off as creepy and pervy. But we are out there.
creepy and pervy? i'm not disagreeing (or maybe i am). if you want to make videos like the daft punk fan here, nothing's stopping you other than believing there are too many guys doing this sort of thing. i'm guessing it's hard to make videos regardless of the topic (even if you know what you're talking about).
The guys have been super nice in my case. But I have seen others get it pretty bad just not liking their personality. It’s not easy putting yourself out there to make videos but mostly everyone is nice and kind
@@MonieMuse i imagine people have enjoyed seeing your face for the whole of your life, monie which certainly doesn't mean you don't know music or vinyl. i'm watching a woman named fathom right now who is perfect. i'm glad she found at least 8 reasons to go right ahead on and make videos just as you did!
My wife feels it is all too complicated. She will sit down and listen but thinks she will screw something up with my system playing music on it. I can show her how simple it is, but she won't touch it Edit for spelling
It is very strange, music and records should be for everyone, but tere are exceptions: Taylor Swift´s fan base is mostly female and they buy her records and go to her concerts.
Most women i know aren't all that into music, they say they are until you start asking some basic questions that any music junkie would know and you find out they just like whatever plays on the radio on their commute to work. In saying that i did inherit my mums record collection and she is into music just as much as me, so it might be that the generation that grew up with vinyl records have a bigger representation of women than today
I find the same results, I've really enjoyed learning about music from the different decades and how music was a diving force to culture, now its like people just listen to music in the background and don't give it much thought. music moves the human soul. so much to it. that's amazing your mom was a music collector.i think women get busy with life and forget about how special music moved them, reconnecting to music was a life saver for myself.
@@MonieMuse I agree, most people and especially women put music on while they do something else. For the people who truly love music listening to music IS doing something. That's probably the difference
@@steveslater6591 lol oh wow!! That sounds so fun! My kids really love music, and it’s so fun to see what they like, can you believe the kids enjoy Tears for Fears ! “Mommy turn up the music” makes my heart proud
In addition, when you make an album or a single, you are missing out most women who would like your music. And also almost all of the music reviewers on the internet are men.
wow! that's so good I never thought of that, the reviews are lead by the men's taste, when I share an album I love and it seems like no one likes them but then I go to their concert and its packed with fans!
While your doing research were you still watching other content creators videos commenting and asking questions? I think you meant ASMR the beauty videos , haircutting , spa's I think this is what you mean? so which is better quality the drug store or Sephora? price per quality? commentors on youtube are important I see plenty of girls on you tube last week I saw some girls cd collection she's a younger girl Sofia studios. but your correct their's lots of men that do videos like Jeff, Jt's record room, Mr Boulder, Roger, Tainted Lord but music is different from sports card collecting that you would expect see men making videos. but with music community I expect to see both now sometimes you watch a creators video and they don't get back to you. but there are plenty of woman who make videos. they may be very young but there girls. the medicore guitarast just showed a record haul 17 minute video. we totally understand how busy you are and are wondering why this video is 2 weeks from your last 2 more weeks would be fine if you waited 4 weeks that's fine but yeah we understand how busy you are. so does your dad collect vinyl or cd's or basicly it's music shared by him and your mom?
I was trying to come up with 10 reasons lol and needed help so I asked around. My parents started finding records at the thrift stores, they have a small collection but my mom just got a cd player and loves it. It’s nice adding music back into life. That’s really good to hear more music channels by girls. Oh as for the make up, I found Sophia and drug store make up is all the same to me, I don’t notice a jump in quality, but I keep it simple, I try to find products that isn’t super toxic , which is hard . I try to post a video every month and if I’m lucky twice , I am not consistent at all.
@@MonieMuse My parents don't buy music anymore they barely put on their cds they have that yellow portable player in their kitchen and don't put on any cd's.. they have a ton of albums from years ago on cd.
Reason xxx: too many "well actually guys". I.e., "Well actually": - vinyl sounds better than digital - Crosley will ruin your records - this is technically their 2nd album, because their debut ep is considered their first album - etc.
Fashion isn't a "hobby". I'm going to be kind when I say that calling it a "hobby" is a very strange and suspicious oversimplification. Fashion is a way of life, it is also one of the aspects of body language communication as well as other forms of communication.
@@ClearOutSamskaras i like fashion and went through a phase which I would call a hobby but for some it is more than that. Some ppl don’t like record collecting to be called a hobby either hahaha. I go through phases where I’m really into something which I name it a hobby . I might be the only one on this who knows
We do need more female in the vinyl community. I think the proportion of women who collect records or music on any physical formats is not negligible, though it's not sufficiently represented
Yes totally agree, according to the comments on this video it seems women are out at record stores. I tend to get very little interactions w my female audience in the vinyl community, the men aren’t shy to leave a comment or their opinion 😂
Im going to generalize here, but when I go to concerts or music festivals, I tend to see a 60/40 or even a 70/30 split of men to women. I just think men put more overall investment (time and money) into music. I totally agree with your last statement, music is for everybody.
yeah I think you're right guys will get really into their music! Maybe even find some identity in it, women might find identity in other things -- now you got me thinking all deep lol "what do women find their identity in ?" I don't know.. good question to think about. I did find identity in my music when I was a teenager, and then again after having a baby. some women when they become mothers are so lost, I often hear them tell me "I don't know who I am anymore.."
not sure, im super nostalgic. I love going back im time w my music . Thanks for commenting, I hope if anything women are encouraged that they're welcome in this record collecting world
@@vonantesberg this has been an interesting topic and found lots of women do collect, some don’t care to share publicly, some do but are hard to find, others just collect a little here and there. But the fact still remains it’s mainly men 😂 and that’s ok. Glad to find out I’m not alone and many more women out there who love music too. I was encourage to know the young generation enjoys vinyl and cds too! 😁
More men have the collecting DNA.. lol jokes. I think cuz we have more money to spend on collecting because we dont spend it on clothing shoes and nails hair etc etc etc
thats super good to hear, I always try to encourage the women i know to get back into music. lots of my friends use to play cds, but since then just don't listen to music anymore. when I talk to some of the younger girls they usually have a list of their favorite bands, which is awesome. we're out there!
If you look at it from sensations, there is visual (books), auditory (music), touch (craft), and taste/smell (food). I know a lot of women who are avid readers, but few men. The reverse is true for music. Why? Don't know, but there seems to be a dichotomy between reading (book clubs are all by women) and music (audio channels mainly men). I know one millennial woman who's into 78s, and one fellow GenXer (I'm at the bottom, she's at the top) who is into (post-)punk. I only know one guy record collector (music journalist in CH). As a guy, I just do my thing with music, share on my insta account. Interestingly, I am much more a writer, would never do RUclips.
Interesting observation, I agree I see a lot of book channels by women, they have a large community too, commenting and interacting. When I hear music I love how it makes me feel, adding the physical element to it adds to the experience, reading the lyrics and looking at the artwork . I think more women would really enjoy this part of records .
@@MonieMuse I think a secondary aspect is the gear head. Pardon me for stereotyping, but women in general tend to be less gear oriented. You can read a book without anything else. Music requires some sort of gizmo. My wife has run a DNA sequencing lab, now is doing genomics, but has a little Bose all in one for music. She loves art, comics, etc. and I agree that the album art etc is such an important part for music enjoyment. She enjoys my weird art records vicariously. But for her, I think that tech necessity for leisure enjoyment of music is too much.
So true and for some men the gear is now THE HOBBY lol I didn’t enjoy having to learn how to put a stereo work but I was thankful I went through that process
I think it’s due to the fact that collecting things in general has always been way more of a fascination with guys more than girls. I don’t know the exact reasons why but it goes with collecting anything. It’s more of a hobby that veers towards men for some reason. It’s like, how many women will you meet that collect baseball cards, or action figures? Comic books? If you go to a comic book store. Or a convention or whatever, I guarantee you will meet way more men there than women. Why? I dunno. I guess it’s just more of a guy thing. It’s funny isn’t it? I can’t explain why, but it’s just the way it is. Guy’s love collecting things way more than women do. And it’s always been that way and we maybe will never know the exact reasons why. like my wife. She thinks I’m crazy for collecting action figures, movies, and records. She doesn’t collect anything. She’s just not into it she says.
Yeah I noticed that too.. i saw my husband collecting video games and it looked so fun. I started to look for cds and records when we were out hunting. The thrill became addictive 😂. Plus I can enjoy what I find over and over again.
Records do take space, I try to keep mine under control, and limit random records that I never listen to. The rest of my house is very minimal. I’ve allowed my record room to be a display of art so I do enjoy looking at the sight of records.
Usually, record stores are loaded with guys who didn't get dates years ago...and now, those same guys are old...and more creepy. As for me...I haven't flipped a record over since 1990.
yes we love the experience of music, and when I was younger I did go to concerts more than buying records and music. now I can't go, do the next best thing .. buy records lol
Oh nice :). When you think about it some of the biggest music artists ever started out with a mainly female fan base: Elvis Presley, The Beatles and of course Taylor Swift.
lol oh record collecting is a hobby that will get you for sure.. nothing like opening up a record, spinning it, looking at the cover, reading every little caption and just taking in the music.
lol isn’t that strange. I saw how much fun my husband was having collecting video games and watching Metal Jesus RUclips channel. The hunt was exciting!
Great video, Monie!
Love your channel and hoping we can get some more vinyl-loving-women in the community!
thank you Chris! I appreciate the supper I get in the VC, only reason why I keep on moving videos.
Abigail Devoe and Retro Musings are two woman that you would absolutely love in the vinyl community.
Thank you I’ll sub to their channel
@@MonieMuseAbigail is really entertaining ! & Retro Musings has really diverse taste. I like 👍 both channels ! Happy 4th 😊
A really lovely video .. I have just recently pondered the same question.. delighted to find your video .. more please when you can .. David
It was a question I had for a while and thought maybe the reasons that stopped me might stop others. Glad you enjoyed it ❤
I played it safe and came out unscathed! 😂 Great job, Monie. Yet another fun, informative and encouraging video. Thank you! 🫶🏽👍🏽👍🏽💪🏽💪🏽
haha tell your wife thank you for being part of the video. she likes antiques too, I LOVE antiques too.
Oh it was so fun, i was so happy when I found each item 😁 like Christmas morning
Keep on enjoying... quick tip ...og pressings ( analog ) sound the best .... go on discogs to buy
Oh my God! This is a great idea for an episode AND a great episode!!! Sharing on Facebook.
Thank you! It’s a question a lot of us have wondered 😂
My wife very graciously does these with me (probably to make sure I sell more than I buy!)
Since she’s been doing this she’s gone from zero interest in vinyl, to calling me sometimes from a thrift shop or estate sale that she’s found some good stuff.
@@sykodjiuia Well, to be fair, you are not just sharing your personal experience but using it to judge ("kind of an odd question").
Either way,, judgments go beyond "sharing."
I gave two reasons for why I believe your conclusion seems wrong to me: 1. Others have had different personal experiences from you (me & other commentators on this thread) & 2. there are far more male vinyl channels than female vinyl channels on RUclips.
You've said other stuff, but you haven't addressed either of these arguments.
Thanks.
It is an everybody thing. I agree. 😃👍. Rock Always! - Heather
😁😇
@@MonieMuse
1) When I listened to the Night Verses album today...the tuning of the heavy guitar parts brought a band called Sleep Token to mind, but I also caught some references to Isis and Deftones.
@@MrJordwalkfree coffee?! I’d be there every day 😂
Love this! Very encouraging for women who want to get into the hobby. Love the Gus cameos too! ❤
I’m so thankful Gus helped me put my stereo together, he’s the best problem solver . Thank you for saying hi!
I got a cassette player added back into my car I never stopped playing my cassette tapes or vinly
@MonieMuse that's exactly why everyone back then wrote their names on their records...HOUSE PARTIES!

In our house, I'm into music/records and my wife is into books. It's been that way for 20 years and seems to work. Thanks for getting me to think about this.
thats awesome, thats how she enjoys relaxing
Was there anything that prevented you from collecting records or cds?

I work at a local shop in the St. Louis area and I would say we see almost a 50/50 split of men and women. ....and mostly younger women.
Women are more logical🤔
That’s good news! Very hopeful for the next generation. When I started RUclips my audience was %100 male, now I’m at %30 female so you’re right the girls are joining in which is great cause we always wanna make everyone feel welcomed to be part of the music experience.

There's a lot like her out there, too 😁
A very good point you made is that one need not have a fancy or expensive stereo to enjoy music.
The great thing about the hobby is learning more about electronics and when a person builds their entertainment it’s so rewarding once it’s set up.

How many should there be?
That is so cool to see moms and daughters together sharing music. My daughter says my music is relaxing 😎

Omaha intervert,
Telegram Sam, has some great records ,I've appreciated learning about.

😂 I love all the different artist you shared! Great library of music

thank you for checking out my channel.
😂 so funny!
from my own experience and from what I've seen, men are more likely to have OCD and end up spending (wasting) money OVER-collecting things like baseball cards, comic books, physical media (records, CDs, DVDs), at least in my generation (gen x) - I'd say 75% of the record shoppers I've seen my age in the stores are men, it gets closer to 50/50 in the younger generations
Maybe it’s the hunting part of men’s brain 😂 women do that with clothes and other things. I like how the record can be enjoyed throughout the years ❤
I think women have other distractions as you have mentioned, like clothes, friends and cosmetics.
@@marcyfan-tz4wj really what’s her handle . I tried looking for it
@@MonieMuse fathommusicnz or vinylfriday!
My wife feels it is all too complicated. She will sit down and listen but thinks she will screw something up with my system playing music on it. I can show her how simple it is, but she won't touch it
Edit for spelling
She has the advantage of you there.😁 a record set up can be intimidating. I only messed with mine because it mine 😂
It is very strange, music and records should be for everyone, but tere are exceptions: Taylor Swift´s fan base is mostly female and they buy her records and go to her concerts.
Her fans come out once a year 😂 really, it’s good she’s introducing so many to physical media and music.
@@MonieMuse
I agree, most people and especially women put music on while they do something else.
For the people who truly love music listening to music IS doing something.
That's probably the difference
Speaking as a man, there are not too many things that are cooler than a woman who is interested in records. Hopefully more will come on board!
Totally! I❤😁
hi, i have 4 girls and they all collect records (drives me crazy) all my fault of course
@@steveslater6591 lol oh wow!! That sounds so fun! My kids really love music, and it’s so fun to see what they like, can you believe the kids enjoy Tears for Fears ! “Mommy turn up the music” makes my heart proud
My guess they do more than men. Raising children, feeding family etc ...she has wisdom
@@ronaldweed6103 . The dream would be a record store with a bounce house in front 😂
@MonieMuse oh yes, for sure ha!!
I think you meant ASMR the beauty videos , haircutting , spa's I think this is what you mean?
so which is better quality the drug store or Sephora? price per quality?
commentors on youtube are important I see plenty of girls on you tube last week I saw some girls cd collection she's a younger girl Sofia studios.
but your correct their's lots of men that do videos like Jeff, Jt's record room, Mr Boulder, Roger, Tainted Lord but music is different from sports card collecting that you would expect see men making videos. but with music community I expect to see both now sometimes you watch a creators video
and they don't get back to you. but there are plenty of woman who make videos. they may be very young but there girls.
the medicore guitarast just showed a record haul 17 minute video.
we totally understand how busy you are and are wondering why this video is 2 weeks from your last 2 more weeks would be fine if you waited 4 weeks that's fine but yeah we understand how busy you are.
so does your dad collect vinyl or cd's or basicly it's music shared by him and your mom?
I was trying to come up with 10 reasons lol and needed help so I asked around. My parents started finding records at the thrift stores, they have a small collection but my mom just got a cd player and loves it. It’s nice adding music back into life.
That’s really good to hear more music channels by girls. Oh as for the make up, I found Sophia and drug store make up is all the same to me, I don’t notice a jump in quality, but I keep it simple, I try to find products that isn’t super toxic , which is hard .
I try to post a video every month and if I’m lucky twice , I am not consistent at all.
@@MonieMuse My parents don't buy music anymore they barely put on their cds they have that yellow portable player in their kitchen
and don't put on any cd's.. they have a ton of albums from years ago on cd.
Reason xxx: too many "well actually guys". I.e., "Well actually":
- vinyl sounds better than digital
- Crosley will ruin your records
- this is technically their 2nd album, because their debut ep is considered their first album
- etc.
vinyl sounds way better than streaming, I do enjoy how clear the cd sounds though. love them both
We need more women in the VC ❤
yes! hope the girls start leaving comments lol it will let me know they're there.
Not sure why we don't see more but it seems we both have the same pros and cons
It always seems that when women have hobbies, it’s for a related reason, and never for it’s own sake. Is it the yin and Yang?
Maybe why I really enjoy records, it’s just for me 😎
Maybe women aren’t as nostalgic? Women tend to be more practical? IDK hopefully that’s not taken offensively
not sure, im super nostalgic. I love going back im time w my music . Thanks for commenting, I hope if anything women are encouraged that they're welcome in this record collecting world
Perhaps there aren’t as many women who enjoy the experience and so has nothing to do with patriarchy. Let’s not flirt with misandry.
Maybe it’s the hunter in man’s brain 🧬 . Yeah I use to buy a ton of clothes . Now I’m happy saving my money for a new record . I get more joy fm it
At my local record store day there were just as many women as man at the event.
thats super good to hear, I always try to encourage the women i know to get back into music. lots of my friends use to play cds, but since then just don't listen to music anymore. when I talk to some of the younger girls they usually have a list of their favorite bands, which is awesome. we're out there!
The problem with records is, they take away space. As do shoes. Do in need to say more?
Records do take space, I try to keep mine under control, and limit random records that I never listen to. The rest of my house is very minimal. I’ve allowed my record room to be a display of art so I do enjoy looking at the sight of records.
Has anyone made the "fear of handling a 12 inch" joke yet?
Usually, record stores are loaded with guys who didn't get dates years ago...and now, those same guys are old...and more creepy. As for me...I haven't flipped a record over since 1990.
guys know what they want and they're gonna go get it. lol
I think women are going to concerts more instead of buying the record.
yes we love the experience of music, and when I was younger I did go to concerts more than buying records and music. now I can't go, do the next best thing .. buy records lol
Oh nice :). When you think about it some of the biggest music artists ever started out with a mainly female fan base: Elvis Presley, The Beatles and of course Taylor Swift.
Beatles! I’m told concerts were full of screaming girls
I thought it was because women have more sense 🤣👍
some have no idea how great records are.. my guy friend played a record for me in 2010 -- and I never looked back
Because they have got more sense.
lol oh record collecting is a hobby that will get you for sure.. nothing like opening up a record, spinning it, looking at the cover, reading every little caption and just taking in the music.
As a woman I think this is ridiculous.
Ok
When I think about it women in general don’t collect stuff at all.
lol isn’t that strange. I saw how much fun my husband was having collecting video games and watching Metal Jesus RUclips channel. The hunt was exciting!
don't pinch the records!!! learn how to slide it into your hand without putting your finger tips on the playing surface of your records. (:
Usually I’m careful but sometimes I just gotta do what I gotta do 😂 good thing they’re mine
The way you handle that record is the stuff of boyfriends' nightmares.
lol when?! Good thing I have my own records
