I think it would be really cool to see a SOS game for the switch that's closer in style to Tree of Tranquility or Animal Parade. I had a lot of fun with Animal parade as a kid, and it's one of my favorite Harvest Moon games to date, so I think it would be a real shame if we didn't see one for the switch in a similar style to the Wii Harvest Moon titles.
I wonder how they're going to elevate or expand this series for future entries? I have to agree with you about the chibi character models . Loses much of the charm and nostalgia. I still think harvest moon 64 is the best one in the series. Almost feel like the series has to do something totally different to stay relevant as more games like this are being made. I think harvest moon save the homeland was a step in the right direction but that too fell short somehow. This could be just me, as Im sure many people will be totally happy playing very similar future titles with small iterations here and there. What do you think? thanks for the Review Glen! cheers.
I've only ever played Harvest Moon DS and man, it was my favorite game of all time! I spent hundreds of hours playing it. So when I heard about this game, I was so excited, but the graphics are a huge turn off for me. It looks like a cheap phone game or something. I wish they went with the art-style they used for SOS Doraemon, that looks so beautiful. So I am very conflicted whether to get this game or not. Also, in Harvest Moon DS you had to save the Harvest Goddess and find the 101 sprites. That was so much fun! Does this game have a similar mission or anything to "spice things up" lol? I wonder if Stardew Valley (not a fan of the graphics either though) or SOS Doraemon would be a better choice in terms of storyline and gameplay in general.

I don't get why everyone keeps calling this a GBA remake of Friends of Mineral town when it is clearly a HD upgrade to Harvest Moon Back to Nature from the PS1 which is 10x cooler for me as that was essentially a sequel to Harvest Moon 64.
Because it's a remake of Friends of Mineral Town. I appreciate that game itself took from the PS1 game but this is a remake of Friends of Mineral Town. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt if its a remake of Friends of Mineral town why is the entire layout of the town and your farm identical to Back to Nature as is the opening intro to the game and many cutscenes haha. Pretty sure all they took from FoMT was the name.
@@SpacedDuck11 Its literally called Friends of Mineral Town, NOT Back to Nature for a reason. FoMT was a new and improved remake of BtN for the GBA and this version is a remake of that new and improved version, hence why you can play as a female characterand be gay(at least the female characrer could in the GBA FoMT) two things BtN never had.
Great review. Really answered some of the questions I had. I've only ever played the Gameboy version of Harvest Moon. I was wondering if I should just start a new save file on Stardew Valley or wait for the rumoured crops in Animal Crossing. If this goes on sale for a decent price I may pick it up. Thanks. I loved Harvest Moon and Starview Valley, but for some reason I really can't get past this art style. It's somehow both generic and uniquely ugly to me.
I found my old ds, and decided to buy Gameboy FOMT to play on it. And everything looks the same lol, even the placement of the houses (like how the church is on the far right corner). Very excited to get this game 👍
Oh I might get it when it's discounted. I remembered I went for Popuri when I played it on Ps1 (HM:Back to Nature).. tho I kinda miss the cellshaded graohics of save the homeland
This bring a nostalgic to me. I spend a lots of time play this game on GBA. Damn, I missed those era. But sorry to say, something is turn off about this remake. The characters model, the animal animations kinda stiff to me. And the price is kinda expensive. Im not sure yet going to buy it or not
What a shame. As much as I'd love to continue supporting Marvelous, I played FoMT to death on the GBA and the price point isn't where I need it to be for this remake. Especially considering that my GBA is within easy reach and I prefer the original visuals anyway. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get Rune Factory 5 localized for the west, can't wait for that one! Great review, Glen!
No its a remake of the gameboy advance title friends of mineral town. It was I think the ninth title in the then harvest moon series, and was itself a partial remake of Harvest moon back to nature on the ps4. Many people believe that theoriginal gba version was one of if not the best in the series, but for me my favourite will always be Harvest Moon 64.
can you date multiple people in this version ??? One thing I like in the rune factory 4 is the ability to date all bachelors at the same time so then you'll see all dating events of the bachelors /Bachelorettes and can decide whom to marry after :3
So did the remake have the gold lumber event? Because I remember placing a peice of gold lumber on my farm on the game boy and by the next day everyone in the town would come buy in the morning to verbally attack me, calling me moneybags or something lol. Just curious!
They reference this event in the new game (and the item is still given to you), but the townsfolk no longer berate you lol. It was especially funny because the mayor himself gave you that lumber, then yelled at you for it. (I played the Japanese version of the new Switch game, so it might play out differently in the English version.)
@@itzg.i.g.1256 yeah I remember watching something about it here and had to see if it was real because it definitely didn't look it haha, just seem so out of character for this game but it was still hilarious I think
Didn’t realise just how much Stardew Valley drew from this GBA game. Not paying $80Au. Makes Stardew seem a bargain, and it apparently has a new 1.5 free content update rumoured with new areas on the way.
My favorite HM of all time was the 'DS' version, which from what I can tell now was a watered down Friends of Mineral Town with DS functions. I was really looking forward to eventually giving FoMT a try but... The sad part. The graphics. I'm sorry, I just don't like them. They're dated- they had similar chibi-ish 3D models on the DS, and then 3DS, and I never cared for them. In a time where a detailed pixel style can be very artistic and once again appreciated, I really would prefer that. It's a shame because the 2D talk sprites (one of my favorite HM features) are nothing short of gorgeous, and seeing those lifeless blocks 3D models next to them just makes them all the more jarring and out of place. I may play eventually, but I'd really prefer a return to the pixelated roots of HM. I mean, Story of Seasons ;P
Listen, love harvest back to nature so much, but i never heard this game, is this direct remake from ps1 game? And is it better than stardew valley? If not im buying it
I played a ton of this on GBA. I'm really on the fence. For a game as tedious as this, I'm not sure I'd play like I used to. Maybe a little early, but I think I'd wipe out quickly and just stop.
I understand the nostalgia of Friends of Mineral Town and I am happy that people got the chance to experience it again but I think I will skip this game. My first console Harvest Moon was Animal Parade which had everything from rival marriages which produced kids of their own (who had distinct personalities), pets that followed you and learned tricks, children that looked like the parents, the introduction of the Harvest God ( who along with the Goddess was romance-able) , cool animals like ostrich, ducks, goats, and silkworms, you could decorate your house with furniture, children and spouses could help around the farm. When I heard Story of Seasons was making a game for the Switch I was excited to see them bring back some of these features but sadly they didn't. I don't know if they can legally do this due to the fight with Natsume with the name Harvest Moon but Marvelous should just release a double pack of Rune Factory Frontier and Harvest Moon Animal Parade for the Switch because those are my favorite game from both series and I will but them instantly. (Also they should bring back character customization I saw the 3 skin tones available and I was not impressed)
This game is right up my alley, but the price is my biggest barrier. In NZ this is priced at $89, I can get some pretty decent games for that. Might actually pickup something like Starview, Graveyard Keeper or Terraria. Think the price value will be better. Appreciate the review and hope the dentist goes well for you

I was excited when I heard about Friends of Mineral Town being remade. Especially when I saw how gorgeous Story of Seasons Doraemon looked, I had high hopes for their remake of Mineral Town. But now it just looks bland to me. It's really disappointing. The character redesigns are confusing. Why remake something if you're just gonna change most of what was iconic about it. It ended up looking bland. Even the old game looks more charming, despite how old it is. Whelp, back to Stardew Valley for me....

B/c of the review embargo as to when a review can be released.

Haha, absoutely! Glen
So excited for this. I played this so many times back in the day. Already preordered
But that's how it looked in FoMT too. Unless my memory is playing tricks on me (to be fair, it's been about 15 years since I played it). Glen
An excellent honest review. Don't worry you sounded fine.
Thank you! Glen
A very good video guys😃I've got the GBA Original and play it sometimes on my GBA SP.This Remaster is just nice but gonna buy it for a lower price 🙂
Thanks. Hope your dental issues get sorted.
Will be interesting to see how the inspiration for Stardew Valley has evolved.
Great review! Gotta pick this up
Thanks mate. Glen
I loved Harvest Moon and Starview Valley, but for some reason I really can't get past this art style. It's somehow both generic and uniquely ugly to me.
What the song called of the Dnb track you sometimes play?
I love this game but the price tag is kinda high for nostalgia.
me too dude i'd rather pirate then buy 50$ for 1gb game , however i have trick i buy from china store steam price only 227 cny which approximate 32$
It's worth it to me! :)
its really is overpriced on switch..if u didnt bother with portability, go get it on steam. its 3x cheaper!
@@rektkun1319 Switch really take advantage of convenience. I will wait for sale or a second hand physical.
@@rektkun1319 nope on steam is 49.99$
I found my old ds, and decided to buy Gameboy FOMT to play on it. And everything looks the same lol, even the placement of the houses (like how the church is on the far right corner). Very excited to get this game 👍
Looking forward to this, awesome review! Feel better, dental issues are no fun!
Cheers Kyle, appreciate it mate. Glen
Oh I might get it when it's discounted. I remembered I went for Popuri when I played it on Ps1 (HM:Back to Nature).. tho I kinda miss the cellshaded graohics of save the homeland
That’s who I went for too lol
Damnnn this is a quality review man.
Thank you, much appreciated. Glen
This bring a nostalgic to me. I spend a lots of time play this game on GBA. Damn, I missed those era. But sorry to say, something is turn off about this remake. The characters model, the animal animations kinda stiff to me. And the price is kinda expensive. Im not sure yet going to buy it or not
Yeah, I agree with both of those points. Glen
Will definitely get this one! I seriously played this over and over in the ps1 to the gameboy.
I'm ready to plant a metric fuckton of pineapples and make BANK
Hahaha
The visuals are an odd mix of looking both really nice and generically mobile-esque at the same time. Still, not really a deal breaker.
I been waiting on this ever since they announced it..
And After seeing videos for this game a few weeks ago I booted up my Vita and started a new Back to Nature save, so I feel ya
Hey when are you reviewing deadly premonition 2 ??
Would u say this is a sims or my sims successor until we get a sims 4 on switch
You forgot to mention. There is now boy to boy or girl to girl relationship
First ever issue was back to nature on PlayStation back in the 90’s
December 16th 1999
So, is this an enhancement of the original SNES game? That's the only one I ever played, but I loved it
No its a remake of the gameboy advance title friends of mineral town. It was I think the ninth title in the then harvest moon series, and was itself a partial remake of Harvest moon back to nature on the ps4.
Many people believe that theoriginal gba version was one of if not the best in the series, but for me my favourite will always be Harvest Moon 64.
Simon O'Rourke ps1*
@@RachelXKnight666 thanks I meant ps1 lol
How does this compare to harvest moon 64? I loved that game. Would i like this one?
I would love to see a Harvest Moon 64 remake 😭
Anybody pre purchase on nintendo eshop? It is already 14th july & i still can’t play it....
My mine has no stairs 😥
can you date multiple people in this version ??? One thing I like in the rune factory 4 is the ability to date all bachelors at the same time so then you'll see all dating events of the bachelors /Bachelorettes and can decide whom to marry after :3
So did the remake have the gold lumber event? Because I remember placing a peice of gold lumber on my farm on the game boy and by the next day everyone in the town would come buy in the morning to verbally attack me, calling me moneybags or something lol. Just curious!
They call you a greedy witch in more friends of mineral town lmao
They reference this event in the new game (and the item is still given to you), but the townsfolk no longer berate you lol. It was especially funny because the mayor himself gave you that lumber, then yelled at you for it.
(I played the Japanese version of the new Switch game, so it might play out differently in the English version.)
@@a.m.bosworth aah so they no longer berate you for it, thats not fun for us nostalgic folk lmao. Thanks for the heads up! 😎👌
@@itzg.i.g.1256 yeah I remember watching something about it here and had to see if it was real because it definitely didn't look it haha, just seem so out of character for this game but it was still hilarious I think
I loved playing to this game on GBA... Also, I didn't know Harvest Moon became "Story of Season", when that happened?
About 6 years ago. The western publishers owned the rights to the name but not to the game engine so they are now made under a new name. Glen
Didn’t realise just how much Stardew Valley drew from this GBA game. Not paying $80Au. Makes Stardew seem a bargain, and it apparently has a new 1.5 free content update rumoured with new areas on the way.
Stardew is the spiritual successor to this game.
Stardew valley is so complicated though lol
appreciate the comment on the `lifeless 3d models` in comparison to the charming art style of the old gba original.
Absolutely mate! Glen
hahah sounded genuinely pissed at Rick there.... was he making moves on your lady? What a weasel!
Haha, yeah. Disgusting behaviour! Glen
Should i get this, Rune Factory 4, or Stardew Valley 😭 Im having such a hard time deciding. Each game has its pros and cons.
Get stardew valley since it has all of the quality of life features that this game doesnt.
I really hated the art style… But I must admit by the end of the first year it surprisingly really grew on me
Listen, love harvest back to nature so much, but i never heard this game, is this direct remake from ps1 game?
And is it better than stardew valley? If not im buying it
Friends of Mineral Town was originally on the GBA and was kind of a remake of Back to Nature on the PS1. This is a remake of that game. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt oh nice it is. Thanks for replying:)
Are you going to do vigor?
I love that my childhood game besides Pokémon is getting a remake..
I played a ton of this on GBA. I'm really on the fence. For a game as tedious as this, I'm not sure I'd play like I used to. Maybe a little early, but I think I'd wipe out quickly and just stop.
Remake of a remake of a remake?
Wait wait wait... Not 60fps and just 30fps?
May I ask which console harvest moon animal parade was released for? That sounds so good!

Can we play multiplayer???? Like living with ur friends or neighborhood
Sadly no
This game is right up my alley, but the price is my biggest barrier. In NZ this is priced at $89, I can get some pretty decent games for that.
Might actually pickup something like Starview, Graveyard Keeper or Terraria. Think the price value will be better. Appreciate the review and hope the dentist goes well for you
Stardew Valley is really great
I have a friend who is interested in this game so thanks for the review! Honestly I couldn’t tell you had dental issues but here is hoping for a speedy recovery!
loved the godfather reference :)
Haha, thanks mate. Glen
The vibes of HM is back! 🤤
Been a long time since i played a Harvest moon game
I was excited when I heard about Friends of Mineral Town being remade. Especially when I saw how gorgeous Story of Seasons Doraemon looked, I had high hopes for their remake of Mineral Town. But now it just looks bland to me. It's really disappointing. The character redesigns are confusing. Why remake something if you're just gonna change most of what was iconic about it. It ended up looking bland. Even the old game looks more charming, despite how old it is.
Whelp, back to Stardew Valley for me....
As is normal a fantastic review
Hope your dental issue gets better! Awesome video like always. Not my cup of tea this game
Though, cheers
I want a remaster of Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley
Nostalgic!!!! 😁😁 super happyyyy!!
No harvest goddes festival (dancing festival) 😭😭
is this worth getting for a switch lite
I haven't played it specifically on a Switch lite but have played a good few hours in handheld mode and it's perfectly fine. Glen
Here we go my drifting joycons!!
