This was definitely the video I needed right now! Love watching and pretending it’s spring when I really still have 3 months until I can start seeds 😢 - I also like vintage boxes and I have my seeds in an old jewelry box with silhouettes of George and Martha Washington on them 😂
You are correct about what you said when you are a new gardener you want to plant everything I did that last year and I was so overwhelmed but this year I’m planting what does well for me cucumbers tomatoes, peppers because that grew for me abundant
I'm with you - all the zinnias lol! I think I might try some statice this year too. I've been getting seed catalogs in the mail, but I haven't started looking at them yet. I save that for after Christmas when winter gets really boring lol.
I can’t wait to see what you do with the hollyhock and thalictrum. I have had success winter sewing the thalictrum. I’m going to try both inside and out this year.
I love winter sowing bc that means I have to do less work so I’ll definitely try that!! Thank you again for the seeds I’m so excited to see how they do.
Love this video! It gets me so excited for Spring! Going to do another seed order now after watching this lol. I am already growing pansies, geraniums, and marigold seedlings early, but, I soon definitely want to try out sowing some asters, morning glory and cosmos, and maybe even alyssum for a change! So fun.
I wish I had half the luck that you have with zinnias! I bought a new variety this year (Zinderella peach) and will try that and queeny lime red again. And if they aren't successful, I give up. Last year queeny lime red was about 7 feet tall (and leggy), didn't bloom until I think Labor Day, and I'd say less than a dozen total flowers which were mostly singles. But last year was a weird summer, so I'm giving them one more chance. 🤞
@@ChicagoGardener I usually start outside, but I'm going to try inside this year. I've never done it before, so we'll see. I'm also dealing with some thrips inside right now and hopefully that's under control before I start seeds (or dahlia tubers).
I am trying asters and feverfew for the first time 🤞🤞🤞. Im so glad you like statice! I think it's a really cool looking plant. Hollyhock is gorgeous too but mine had horrible rust. Maybe yours wont bc it's in a container???? Floret is selling seeds in jan which will prob kill me. Like you, i already have 9 billion zinnias but im going to buy more 😂
Do you buy grown Petunias from a garden centre and plant each year? They looked so lovely in your garden but I struggle to find info. Have you considered making video about them with your tips? :)
I always get mine from the garden center! My favorite brand of petunias is proven winners, specifically supertunia vista bubblegum, and Home Depot is the closest place near me that carries them.
I bought gomphrena for the first time, and it's because of you! Wish me luck!
Yay!!! Which variety did you go for?

That jewelry box sounds amazing!!

Seeds I'm excited about trying for the first time this year: Verbascum, Stock, Chinese Delphinium, and White Orlaya!
Someone else mentioned stock so now I feel like I need to get stock! What varieties are you growing?

True 😂 after the holidays but before I can’t plant outside is when time moves the slowest!

Love this video. It reminded me to order my zinnia seeds early. Thanks!
Yes! Some of what I have is already sold out so definitely grab seeds you want asap!
Was able to save a few seeds from my apricot quartet stock this year….on my top 3 favorites! Multiple branching and lasted til frost!
So what I’m hearing is I need to buy some stock seeds 😆
@@ChicagoGardener quartet variety for multi branching !

I need to get some alyssum next year too!

I do the same as you right now. Best to see what you have. It a great time to shop for seeds too.
It is!!
Thanks for this video, I think I will give Asters a try so pretty!
I fell in love with them this year!! Johnnys seed has some really pretty varieties.
@ChicagoGardener thank you I will definitely check them out.
Great video! What was the name of the nursery where you got the hollyhocks from?
Those seeds were sent to me from @growforme5b! They were kind enough to share some from their garden with me.

I think you can fit at least 10 billion zinnias 😂

Hi from former 5b/now 6a! I'm learning what to plant sooner. Did your USDA zone change too?
We stayed zone 6a but the zone has expanded a lot in Illinois!
