"Railfan" Derails Train For YouTube Views

- a "railfan, who's channel is Captial City rail productions, has been accused of flipping a switch which led an oncoming train into a siding where a railcar was sitting, causing the train to hit the car and derail. I'd guess BNSF found him and charged him.
This makes railfans look bad and will make train crews think railfans put people at risk, when we don't.

a "railfan" intentionally derailed a train for youtube views. his video was posted back in April
I'd guess BNSF gathered enough proof to know it was him and that is what came out recently. I'd guess there was CCTV footage

I seen this video pop in my feed several time, but my editing skills suck, so i didnt make a video about it, but yeah what this kid did was stupid and highly utterly nonsense! This is what makes us railfans look bad all because of people like him or other people doing this for views...I hope he serves his years in Juby or prison😢
I can’t do the editing either. It’s like either people do stuff to make rail fans look bad or people just have a problem with rail fans. It’s straight up ridiculous. I just hope they expose the security footage of him messing with the switches. I just have to believe it to see it at times. It does look obvious he did it don’t get me wrong but there has been times people will blame kids for odd mistakes just because they were around the tracks. Like I said hopefully the security footage exposes him.

I may not have made a point that stuck out to you, the main one here is if that stationary car had hazmat in it, the crew and that town would have been at risk. or if the train came in fast etc. I shouldn't have to hand hold

In an organization without any failsafe positions, it is more likely that an employer forgot to throw the switch, than it is to have a railfan doing it. Remember American railroads are about 100 years behind most of the rest of the world. Even developing countries, like India, has better security on their railroads than what you find in the US.

They have this kid up on charges, but to your point, what if there had been toxic chemicals on that train? This idiot needs to be tried as an adult and thrown in prison for a long, long time. A message must be sent and this particular crime must be brought to account.

I saw the video of the derailment, and i heard the subject breathing heavily.
And that was the part that he was screwed up.

I made a more to-the-point version on Tiktok (showing the article) pointing out his anticipation of the derailment being sus because railfans don't know a train will derail until it happens, nor will they know the causes until after the investigation.
I put "railfan" in quotes because his account may have train content, no true railfan puts others at risk for brownie points.

In all the years I've been a rail fanatic. I never seen nothing like this in my lifetime.
This is not Hollywood.
Don't tamper with any railroad equipment of any type. Let the professionals that know how to operate it. If something don't look right, call the hotline.
A train derailed in my hometown in 1984. All because a group of teenagers was messing around with the switch for the fun of it. That caused a major traffic disruptions and tied up railroad for days. Motorists and public buses had to take a long detour until the cleanup was completed.
Be careful when taking videos and photos of the train.
