When you were mentioning parents having the TikTok challenge talk, it caused me to flash back to the 80s & what the parents (mine included) would say to us back then. "If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?" Sadly, I think these kids would.
Lol, my folks couldn't use that line on me. They knew that one of our pastimes was jumping off a 70' tall bridge into the river. We also used to climb about 40 or 50 feet up into the planted pines around the neighborhood, and jump from tree to tree, like redneck monkeys. Then there was the old limestone quarry, with 40 foot walls, and full of water. We'd jump in, and swim down to touch the old crane that had been left behind when the mining operation busted through the aquifer and flooded the quarry. Or there was the old sugar plantation we played around, and we would climb into the big old vats that were left behind, and walk them around like giant hamster wheels. Or the various caves dotting the forest, that we'd turn into hideouts. Not caves in rock walls, mind you. These are Florida caves, meaning they are holes on the ground, that lead deep into the Earth. You drop down into them like Mario into a pipe. They're full of whiptail spiders and cave crickets. As you go deeper into them, you eventually wind up IN THE AQUIFER, standing in water that hasn't seen daylight in hundreds or even thousands of years. Basically, we did dumb stuff back in the 80's. We just didn't film it. We didn't want proof of our clownassery, even if we could have filmed it.

Same happened to where I live in NYC, the door was kicked so hard the door and frame was damaged, cost was over 2K to replace the door, and frame. Ring cam caught the kids in the act and they were charged with attempted home invasion. Youngest was 12 ....

It's not that they don't understand. It's that it never comes to mind. There are far too many people today that never once think that actions have consequences. it's not just these "challenges." I've lost count how many times I've seen people of all ages do something incredibly reckless and foolish and have genuine shock and disbelief when something bad happens.

I did scream out at them that I have a pow pow and WILL smoke them. They ran away like the wheelbins they are. This was at 7PM and no cars in the driveway, I was the only one home. Had they broken in, they'd of been mauled by 5 dogs and pow powed by a disabled redhead in a wheelchair. Would not of been a good night for me or them, considering I'd be arrested. My dad had this happen a few months ago. He didn’t have cameras and I was late evening and dark out so he had a gun trained on the door from the kitchen, waiting for for the door to break down to open. It shook the living room so bad some pictures came off the walls. He was going to shoot the second it opened. Thankfully, the cops got there first and stopped the kids in the middle of it. It was a 12-year-old and his 17-year-old brother. They were charged in juvenile court but were let off with because the judge didn’t want to have them start their adult lives with convictions on their records.

Pro-tip, put longer screws in your door strike plate and hinges. Screws drilled into the frame make it extremely difficult for a person to kick in the door.
Actual pro tip from a door installer: go buy something called a countersink, they're about 20$ then countersink pilot holes for the screwheads to sink into...or else your door will be wonky, when the hinges don't sit flat. better protip for securing your door. get headlock brand screws, and countersink them with a forstner bit. regular screws are an improvement but they arent made for lateral shear strength. they are made to pull things down if you put 3 headlocks into each side of your doorjambs, the jamb wont move. however, the lock throw will still just blow through the wood. install a steel plate for the lock throw to insert into, and keep the jamb from splintering, and then it will resist some serious attacks.

Remember the weakest part is where the strike is any screws used you want to anchor into the studs not just the door frame. A group of kids, ages 9 or 10, in my neighborhood were doing this with my door 2 years ago. They did this twice and got them on my ring cam. The second time, i was in the shower. The bang was so loud it scared me so bad, I rushed out, dressed while still soaking wet to find a footprint on my door. I'm glad they weren't strong enough to do any real damage. As an autistic person with severe anxiety, my worst fears have always been having my home threatened, being recorded in public without my knowledge, and public tragedies or threats of public tragedies. It's to the point where when i go out its all i can ever think about. The fact that we live in a world where those all can be done as a "joke" makes me scared at even the prospect of going anywhere.
I hate to break it to you, but you're constantly being recorded in public. It's called CCTV. See, as far as US Law goes, you do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in any public space. Even a private citizen may record in public, without having to ask permission, because there is no expectation of privacy in public spaces. As long as the photos or videos taken are not used for capital gain (making money), they do not have to ask permission to photograph or video record you. If you leave your house, know that you are being recorded.

I think that actually put me in line. I did it to a neighbor down the road and then me and my friend sat outside talking, and he walked up and gave us hell. It was off a connecting road and he still gave us the wrath. Being young and dumb happens, but being caught is the defining moment.

Yep, this happens to me about 5 times a month it’s actually so frustrating and annoying have to deal with. They have literally broke my balcony gate and kicked my door off the hinges. It is ridiculous.
Not just in America. Our population is that of a couple large cities, country wise, and only a fifth of us are in the South Island of New Zealand, but we've had those little sods doing it in my neighbourhood, too. They sent my neighbour - someone with six-foot fences, closed gates, a newborn and pre-existing PTSD - into a state of utter panic because they climbed her fence and did it before absconding. She was fairly new, so I don't know if THEY knew that. They haven't been back at hers, but I know they're going round other houses now that it's out in the open. They're at least avoiding a house in the area of a woman that has openly been suffering from the repercussion of uncontrolled neighbourhood kids going B&E crazy and homicidal to her pets last year, at least. Only upside was that apparently my cat had been sending her into a panic by trying to gift her husband rum cans and shifting around their shoes; now she knows that it isn't ADULTS doing it, and that my cat loves them apparently.

A group of kids did this to a bunch of my neighbors the other day. Damaged the doors pretty badly. Luckily the cops were able to find them and they got in massive trouble.

My dad had this happen a few months ago. He didn’t have cameras and I was late evening and dark out so he had a gun trained on the door from the kitchen, waiting for for the door to break down to open. It shook the living room so bad some pictures came off the walls. He was going to shoot the second it opened. Thankfully, the cops got there first and stopped the kids in the middle of it. It was a 12-year-old and his 17-year-old brother. They were charged in juvenile court but were let off with because the judge didn’t want to have them start their adult lives with convictions on their records.

Pro-tip, put longer screws in your door strike plate and hinges. Screws drilled into the frame make it extremely difficult for a person to kick in the door.
Actual pro tip from a door installer: go buy something called a countersink, they're about 20$
then countersink pilot holes for the screwheads to sink into...or else your door will be wonky, when the hinges don't sit flat.
better protip for securing your door. get headlock brand screws, and countersink them with a forstner bit.
regular screws are an improvement but they arent made for lateral shear strength. they are made to pull things down
if you put 3 headlocks into each side of your doorjambs, the jamb wont move. however, the lock throw will still just blow through the wood. install a steel plate for the lock throw to insert into, and keep the jamb from splintering, and then it will resist some serious attacks.

As an autistic person with severe anxiety, my worst fears have always been having my home threatened, being recorded in public without my knowledge, and public tragedies or threats of public tragedies. It's to the point where when i go out its all i can ever think about. The fact that we live in a world where those all can be done as a "joke" makes me scared at even the prospect of going anywhere.
I hate to break it to you, but you're constantly being recorded in public. It's called CCTV. See, as far as US Law goes, you do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in any public space. Even a private citizen may record in public, without having to ask permission, because there is no expectation of privacy in public spaces. As long as the photos or videos taken are not used for capital gain (making money), they do not have to ask permission to photograph or video record you. If you leave your house, know that you are being recorded.

Yep, this happens to me about 5 times a month it’s actually so frustrating and annoying have to deal with. They have literally broke my balcony gate and kicked my door off the hinges. It is ridiculous.
Not just in America. Our population is that of a couple large cities, country wise, and only a fifth of us are in the South Island of New Zealand, but we've had those little sods doing it in my neighbourhood, too. They sent my neighbour - someone with six-foot fences, closed gates, a newborn and pre-existing PTSD - into a state of utter panic because they climbed her fence and did it before absconding. She was fairly new, so I don't know if THEY knew that. They haven't been back at hers, but I know they're going round other houses now that it's out in the open. They're at least avoiding a house in the area of a woman that has openly been suffering from the repercussion of uncontrolled neighbourhood kids going B&E crazy and homicidal to her pets last year, at least. Only upside was that apparently my cat had been sending her into a panic by trying to gift her husband rum cans and shifting around their shoes; now she knows that it isn't ADULTS doing it, and that my cat loves them apparently.

In my state a couple years ago a man shot and killed his daughter's ex-bf when he was trying to kick down his door. The man was not charged. Honestly I do kind of think TikTok should be banned because it seems to have only led to negative things happening across the US.
cant do that. What we can do i advocate our local politicians and courts to actually punish and convict people for crimes which would hopefully discourage ppl from doing this stuff. Or even better charge both kids and parents of under age offenders. Then we will see parents actually parent their kids more.

At this point Banning Tiktok is outright MANDATORY. Because they absolutely REFUSE to moderate their site better and suppress these videos.
