There’s a secular convention called SEA (Secular, Eclectic, Academic) Homeschoolers. There’s also the Liberated Minds Black Homeschool & Education Expo. I think these were virtual this year. I’ve never gone to a homeschool convention either, I just think most of the mainstream ones are not a good fit for our family.
I was homeschooled myself, back then we were the only homeschoolers in our county and some of the very few in our state. There were so few resources to use that we mostly had retired public school textbooks. Homeschool resources have come a looooooong way over all! But yes the majority of homeschoolers have been Christian. I think neutral/secular materials will start becoming much more common now that there is enough of a demand.
I’m really hoping we begin to see more options… it’s funny you say that,, because when I first started homeschooling five years ago it was a little harder for me to find secular curriculum , so I was doing the same thing buying old public school curriculum. I still do because it’s just an easier less expensive route 😁
Thank you for sharing! I've purchased a couple faith based items, not all on purpose, thinking I could "make do" and I feel quite tired of that scenario. So, definitely trying to only buy secular curriculum & books from now on.
Thank you for taking us along with you. I finally got to attend a homeschool convention, even if it is online. So many vendors, I wouldn't even know where to start! (Love your videos, hope all is well).
This was very interesting to watch. I’ve never been to a convention. Here in B.C. Canada we have lots of secular homeschoolers. My 3 kiddos are enrolled with a secular home learning school, one of many.
I saw that they are in Florida next week and about a hour away. I can't turn down a chance to visit one. Thank you for your guidance. I am watching this to see if I should pack the kids up or get a sitter. 💙
That's interesting! We are Christian but all of our curriculum is neutral, every homeschool vendor stuff we go to here in California is like 95% secular. It's hard for me to find faith based stuff for us. So I guess the opposite for us lol
Hi Alex! Thank you for sharing this video! We are going to these conventions for the first time this year as a vendor and you gave such a great insight! Jolene
I've never been to a convention either. I find it's even hard being secular on local re-sell curriculum groups. Everything is so faith based. We used a Christian math curriculum the past two years and it was easy to work around, but I don't think I can do that as easy with other subjects
I haven't been to a convention yet either... 6th year homeschooling. I actually have better luck finding curriculum from flipping through catalogs and youtube/internet. Thanks for sharing.
Hi ! Sorry such late response… there’s tons of groups out here .. I’m not part of any but I know people that have joined different types of co-ops. Most of them are from the Austin area. I consider that area to be too far for me so I don’t join any of them.
Parts of it !! by the time I got it I was already using all about reading with my daughter. The program is a great program, though I use it for some of the sentences for extra reinforcement.
Last year (before COVID shut everything down), I had a friend that was going to advertise her new co-op at the convention near us. They refused to allow her to do so because it was secular and the word was "off putting" to them. So yeah.... don't think I'll ever attend one if they stay in that line of thinking lol.
We so much need a secular curriculum convention. There needs to be more representation. Thank you for this video Alex💜
Yes !! Totally agree!

Sorry guys !! Hope the motion doesn’t make you guys too dizzy 😵💫,, but I really wanted to share the footage but also not make the video too long ! 🤪
Your choices are great as always. I'm loving that timeline pad.

Can you make a review video of the Syl-la-dot curriculum? Did you like it? How is the drum lessons going?
Can I just say how freaking adorable your family is?! I’d be so drawn to you guys at a convention like this... you are my people! 🖤🖤🖤😘
Artistic Pursuits is pretty neutral, I think. Great video! Thank you!

I’ve done the same ,,, I recently purchased my daughter a new math (Christian light) cause of its simplicity…

Thanks for this, going back and forth if i should attend this summer
In all honesty I’m actually considering going this year it’s coming to Texas in July again I just like to go for the free Vanderhall day again
*Vendor Hall
I was a little hesitant about any convention being a new secular homeschooler myself. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t blame you … we are truly limited 😑

I love the Miller Pads and Paper booth. I always go to their booth first when going to a convention.
it was great!!! wish i would have gone there first , but we started on the oppisite end..:)
Thanks for sharing, never been to a convention either (going on 6th year) Always happy to see you back!
This one was just way to close to home ,,, I wanted to experience it at least once ! 😁

That’s great!! Much of luck to you and hope you enjoy it !
@@HomeschoolOfBelAir Thank you!
I would love to know more about the new curriculum!
I’m intrigued by the sylladot curriculum! My youngest two could benefit from it, I’m sure!
check the website cause my understanding she also gives one away on her website (one a day) you just pay for shipping!
@@HomeschoolOfBelAir what?! That’s awesome! I will definitely look into it! Thank you!
I would think you would have to ask questions about any new curriculum, if it’s truly secular or not. I would still like to experience this too!
Cool finds. I’ve never been to a homeschool convention.
This one was just way to close to home,, for me not to attend.. I dont know that I would ever drive more that 1 hour to attend one though!
Yay new video!! 🤗🤗🤗

exactly!! I literally just received the Rainbow Resource catalog today... so excited to look through it!
That is exactly what I was flipping through while watching your video....lol
I almost went to this last year! New to TX, is there any secular homeschool CoOps in Texas or Facebook groups?
Hi ! Sorry such late response… there’s tons of groups out here .. I’m not part of any but I know people that have joined different types of co-ops. Most of them are from the Austin area. I consider that area to be too far for me so I don’t join any of them.
❤ Hi there!Did you end up using the Sylladot Reading Program?
Parts of it !! by the time I got it I was already using all about reading with my daughter. The program is a great program, though I use it for some of the sentences for extra reinforcement.
What is the name of the company or the maker of the spiral bound timeline notebook? Thanks 😊
That was from www.millerpadsandpaper.com

Oh wow!! I really hope our SEA Homeschool Conventions go back to in person next year ,,, I’d love to go to one of those (secular)
