+Scoring57 Annie's hair was a symbol for Irish immigration. Changing Annie's appearance takes away from one of the major undertones of the story. It was an issue of xenophobia and religious intolerance. The fact that she was left at an orphanage exemplified what New Yorkers thought of the Irish -- poverty stricken Catholics with too many mouths to feed. Having Annie be African American -- American being a key word here -- takes away a lot of depth.
***** The didn't need to remake "Annie". I have a feeling people wouldn't be as offended if the 2014 version hadn't been such a shite movie...
***** If it was a better movie, then the fact that Annie was black would've been a good thing. It would've been different, but it would've improved on the original. The original MOVIE isn't all that great either, but I've seen the musical on Broadway and I actually played Annie is school productions all throughout elementary school. The stageplay is a masterpiece. The first adaptation is a little meh, the second was awful. I didn't think "Beasts of the Southern Wild" girl was a very good singer...

Well as a black woman I love her and because I can remember way back when she first started out on the comedy scene. Leslie Jones has come a long way and I refuse to knock her hustle, in fact, I'm proud of her and all that she has endured and accomplished in this hateful world. I know how it feels to be the underdog all the damn time that's why she needs to keep fighting and forging ahead in her career. This skit made me do something I haven't done in a long time since I recently lost my mom to pancreatic cancer, the second most deadly cancer in the world. This is what is true, factual and matters at the end of the day she is a comedian, writer, and actor and for just a few minutes she did her job well she made me happy for a minute because I laughed and smiled, because damn it I needed that distraction right about now.

In all seriousness, this movie has so much sentimentality to it for me because I was also blessed enough to be adopted by an amazing family as well and if I wasn’t, I would have had to spend my life most likely with a mother who does drugs, sleeps with a bunch of men and not in the good way, and bunch of other things as well. So I kind of think of myself as little orphan Annie. Even though I was WAY too young to remember any of it, but my adoptive mother, once I got old enough, told me about it. I’m just really blessed just like Annie was to have Daddy Warbucks.

I have loved the show since 1975, and I love the new writers and cast members. People who would rather watch old clips are the same people who listen to classic rock. Dinosaurs. They feel threatened when SNL has more than one black cast member.
SNL sucked before the new casting. And still does, except for this cast.

The only two people funny in this skit, are Keenan, and Jamie foxx impersonated in the first couple of lines. If you think this cast is better than Murray/belushi/chase, or Murphy(who originally did Annie a la James Brown)/Sandler's/Farley, or even Fallon/Ferrell era's then I disagree with you. There is a reason why people tune in when SNL alumni host the show.
Also a reason why people listen to classic Rock, because it influence so many other singers, ie the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, etc. they sang about the times(political,social) more so than singing about butts.

I'll never forget the Saturday afternoon when my daughter said to me, "there is a new Annie movie played by a black girl" and responded in song "wo oh black Annie bam a lam wo oh black Annie". The next day my daughter showed me this video and we had a damn good laugh. And I had the satisfaction of proving to my daughter what a comic genius her daddy is.
She just did modern day blackface without the paint. The whole act was out dated, tacky and racist.

This isn't black face. There is a new Annie movie coming out in a few weeks. The new Annie is black and Cameron Diaz plays Ms. Hannigan and Jamie Foxx plays Mr. Warbucks.
What I meant is that she's playing a really stereotypical caricature of a black person that is reminiscent of black face. (Ie: the over exaggerated facial expressions, the loudness etc. Even the burliness of how she is acting suggests that even little black girls are too masculine to pull off the part)

The problem with sketches like these, is that they are based SOLELY on the difference of skin color. That's it. That's the punchline and that is what makes it racist. And yes there will people that find this funny, but those people also find black men in fat suits dressed like women funny, even though it has been done 1,000 times. This kind of humor is cheap and easy. I would think that anyone who understood the history of minorities in entertainment would understand why this is taking a few steps backwards. We can be smarter and wittier than this "black people be like" / "white people be like" kind of comedy.

Benjamin Hebert Makes no difference. Black comedians (some of them anyway) still write towards stereotypes. It's either what they've known their whole life OR more likely it is what sells, so they write it. Comedians have the hardest job already, so imagine a black comedian.
