I'll have a special guest for the next video! Hit that 'subscribe' so you won't miss it :)
In this Street Photography Challenge, I went to the Saturday bazaar San Ángel, Mexico City to do street portraits with my FujiFilm X-T3.
I'm / trovatten on Twitter.
I lot of you have asked how I take pictures of strangers, candid photography or not - so I thought it would make sense to show exactly how I do street portraits and how I take pictures of strangers.
#streetphotography #fuji #fujifilm
In portrait photography, I usually work with people I see on the streets, but for my next video, I will have a special guest with me.
I hope you enjoyed this Street Photography Challenge with my Fuji X-T3 and the 56mm 1.2 Fujinon. In terms of street photography tips and tricks, I think the most important thank for you is just to start slow until you feel a bit more confident.
What's going on in this video?
I'm in Mexico City doing 20 Street Portraits in one hour!
This channel is very underrated.
Saul
I totally agree.
Saul Gray yes
What’s the lnce name
No u are underrated
I like your style, how you approach people and ask for permission before taking their photo, very gentleman of you.
Thanks a lot! I like it that way :)
he couldn't do any different than this, You may not just stay in front of someone and take a shot.
@@gilsontopfstedt3554 Legally you can
@@Donari not here in Germany nowadays;-)
@@gilsontopfstedt3554 tbh im not surprised since germany is already in a deep downhill.
I love how you ask other people for permission to take their photo but its so sad to think that I don’t have that much confidence to ask them when I’m taking strangers portrait photos for myself.
Kent Vincent Llano you gotta try it like he is doing in the video. Be nice and don’t feel let down if someone refuses. It is also likely people will ask why you’d like to take a portrait. Just like he said: I photograph people in Mexico. :)
Yeah right but during the shoot it would be awesome if you can communicate properly with person whom you’re taking the photo with but I’m not that type of person who’s mind that had full of words to speak out, but sure you can practice it and improve yourself talking to other people.
not with this attitude!
I came here for the pictures but the video actually made me feel happy. Lovely photos! Buen trabajo, Federico.
Thanks, José! Glad you get pleasantly surprised! I do this videos about once a week :)
i laughed and smiled through the entire video
I was literally smiling the whole time watching your video ... it's so nice of you to ask permission before taking their photos, I like that! ... great work and I enjoyed it so much!
Thanks a lot! It was a fun video to make too!
This this!! You make it look so easy!
Thanks guys! We should get together some time! If you want a guest appearance for you Videos, I’d love to bring my camera and do a photo walk or something :)
Dude I just discovered you, I'm from Mexico living in Barcelona, I do fashion editorial styling & photography and just got really into Street Photography. I must say I'm very glad You Tube recommended your video.
Also I think you're very "lucky" as you said first for this "outsider's" eye yo have and secondly because I can see people are mostly letting you take the pictures. But I say "lucky" because I think it's mostly the good vibe you transmit and the kindness and empathy of asking when you have to like when you asked the mom and even though you had her "permission" you asked the girls. I don't usually comment but I just had to congratulate you man.
I've spent hours today watching your work and also the big improvement, you will be big because I think your work is honest. Congrats and if you ever come to Barcelona give me a heads up.
Dude I just saw this comment! Thank you so much for the love and I'm sorry to get back to you so late! If I go to Barcelona, we could go out to shoot :)!
That shot at 4:18 was amazing, nice work bro
Thanks a lot Gabriel! Much appreciated!
Her expression is so good, I would love to photograph her
This was fun to watch. The way you put everyone at ease, was a nice touch.
Thanks April! Stick around for next week! I’ll go through some tips about exactly that with some examples :)
I like how You "drive" conversation on streets and Your style in wider sense :). Jakub from Poland.
All those people were amazing. The last candid was great too
Your friendliness is inspiring! You get on with it and then swap names. It’s so lovely.
Thanks, Ash! New video coming out tonight :)!
I really like that you are interacting with people before taking photos. That's a socially challenging way to do street photography!
Thanks Scott :)!
What you say in min. 1:41 is totally true. People don't react the same way when they get photographed by a Mexican random guy.
3:56 is wonderful. So good to see how the movie camera catches all this busy stuff going on, with no apparent photograph to be found, but then you pull the photograph out that is amazing. That is what I need to do this year.
Hehe thanks a lot dude! It's a cool experience to see GoPro Vs. Still phot- which is why I went for the setup together :)
I love that you sound so genuine and having soo much fun. I admire your attitude very much and gain confidence from it.
Thx 👊🏼
You photograph people with respect, that deserves a gold medal! Great work man!
Thanks a lot! Yeah. It's more fun when everyone who takes part, enjoys the process :)
Very friendly photographer
@@borielpz997 Thanks!
I the fact that you are genuinely talented yet you have this humble, authentic energy. This video was awesome. Subscribed.
Thanks Indigo Moon :)! Really appreciate it!
The people downs there are so beautiful, warm, friendly, and inviting.
@4:18 perfecto!!! Very nice light and expression!
U have the greatest voice and demeanor for confronting people to take their pic. Love watching your vids!
Thanks :)! And glad you like the content! I'm currently editing my next video!
Your connection with people is inspiring. I need to get out and start shooting more.
Thanks a lot Gilbert! Yes you doo :)!
Love how you show life in Mexico. Such a beautiful people. Can you make a video about what you love about shooting the streets of Mexico City?
I haven’t done much ‘Talking / opinion videos, but I’d like too! Tomorrow I’ll publish a new video I hope you like!
Wundervoll ❤
Das waren wahrlich herzergreifende Momente, die du mit uns geteilt hast. Danke, dass du mir diese kurzen Minuten mit Wärme gefüllt hast 🙋♂️💖
Vielen Dank, Tom. Schön, dass du meine Videos magst!
Good of you to share your process. I agree that when you are in a foreign land, where you may be seen as a visitor, it is much easier. I did pretty much the same thing on the streets of Cairo. People appreciate your genuine interest.
Thanks a lot Yusuke! Yea, the tourist pass is a real thing! Thanks for the support!
Hello. Your videos inspire me again and again! Thank you very much and Greetings from Germany.
Vielen herzlichen Dank! :)

What should my next street photography challenge be? Let me know in the comments! My gear list: trovatten.com/gear
How about people eating in the streets?? I think is really a challenge!!!
Street performers??
This is soooo impossible. How are you so good at finding all these interesting shots in such a busy environment. Amazing !
Thanks a lot Filip! Appreciate it! And welcome to my channel!
love the way you approach people and have a little chat! such friendly people and a nice culture in Mexico!
Thanks Fulller! It's a fun place for doing what I do :)
I’m so excited to find your RUclips channel!! I’m from Mexico, and it’s actually true what you said, maybe because of you didn’t live your whole life in Mexico City when you take pictures of portraits or street pictures, actually u can see Mexico City as a different perspective as someone who’s actually born and raised in Mexico, and I just think that your channel is amazing keep doing it and it’s really amazing!! and I wish one day I can meet you for a photo shoot in Mexico thank you so much for making those videos 📷🖤
Muchas gracias Debby! I appreciate it! Would be fun! I’ll plan on do a portrait event in Mexico City! I’m @trovatten on Instagram - and I’ll let you know when it happens :)
They are all soo friendly, wish to visit mexico in the future
Amazing shots, beautiful people, wonderful video. Well done Frederik.
Thanks Fiona! Glad you enjoy the videos :)!
Cool work I really like the behind scenes work and some really cool streets photos
Thanks a lot! And welcome to the channel!
I absolutely love your outgoing personality when talking to these "strangers" to take their photo! It's really, really fun watching these videos and they always make me smile :D
Not to mention that i'm also using the 56 1.2 and love the shots you're getting! Please keep it up! :D
Thank you so much dude! Really appreciate it :)!
That was a really nice video. I really enjoyed the way you talk to people and their reaction.
Renato Custódio Pereira thanks dude! Appreciate it!
Me encanta tu trabajo y tu estilo
Gracias Brayan!
Nice video Fred. I like how respectful you are with the subjects, unlike other famous street photographers.
Thanks a lot dude! I appreciate it! And I like this way of doing it. It’s more fun for everyone involved :) - stay tuned for Wednesday! I new fun video will be up!
Being Mexican-American, it’s nice to see that my people are so nice and friendly 🤠
the last photo is gorgeous ! love it.
Thx! And welcome to my channel :)
Aha! This is what I was looking for on RUclips! No excessive explaining of the shot. I have the exposure down, but I struggle with the "eye" and composition of the shots. I'm a visual learning. You can explain the shot to me all you want, but until you show me I wouldn't learn a thing. Just came across your channel. You've got a new subscriber, Thanks for this!
Thank you Frederik , I like your manner and approach and of course your photographs, I am just getting into street photography
Thanks Kelvin! Appreciate it and good luck with your street!
I followed this link from your website. I love your work but I am really impressed by how casually and naturally you are able to interact with the people on the street. That is difficult for me because I am an introvert and because I have an "angry-looking" natural expression, so even when I try to be friendly, people tend to shy away from me.
Loved it... you are such a natural communicator..not to mention a great photographer already looking forward to the next post
Thank you so much Kevin! Really appreciate it :)! I’ll try to upload around 40 videos this year!
Great video :) In my opinion one of the most important thing is to be polite to people, smile to them, laugh - just like you did! The vibe is so important and you trully nailed it! :D keep up great work :)
Yeah! It’s a lot more fun for everyone involved like that! Glad you liked the video! I have a new video coming out today that I think you’ll enjoy too :)!
@@FTrovatten oh my, can't wait then! :D
that really touched me deeply. I dont know how many people turned you down but it seems like people in Mexico City are chill about a European photographing them on the street. I would have no such luck here in NYC but I do ask some interesting characters sometimes who do say yes. Its wonderful how you connected with the people immediately. While I might not ask strangers to photograph them I do try to have conversations and connect with strangers everyday. I feel strange without it.
Thanks a lot Jason! Really appreciate it! NYC is cool for photography. But there are soo many NYC photographers!
That felt like a really warm and friendly breeze
Thanks Nick! Appreciate it! And welcome to my . channel!
That’s so beautiful. These people are so nice
Great vlog and great idea. We'll be visiting mexico city next week' looking forward to it!
Cool! Enjoy it here! It's an amazing city :)
Such a feel-good video! Can't wait for more! 👍🏽

Omg! Breath taking shots my friend!
Glad you liked them! Much appreciated!
Just found this channel. So underrated. Get your work out there man. Less technical talk, more photo walks. Which is awesome! 😁
Thanks a lot dude! I will!
Awesome video! Sadly here in Germany people would never let a stranger take a photo of them 🙄😅
They will let you.
You are so kind and such a great photographer!!!
Thank you so much Julie! Appreciate it! And welcome to my channel!
this is the 1st of your videos I watch. you are very good, making fun pleasing contact with people, and the lighting seems to work out very well. great job
Thanks a lot dude! Really appreciate it!
Just discovered your channel. I love it, I work across the street from that park!! Nice work!!
Arh cool! In San Miguel :)?
@@FTrovatten San Angel! Yes!! I am binge watching your videos at work haha!
I always wondered how photographers did street photography, this seems like a great way to connect with people.
@@vgadgetsmx Haha that's really cool to hear! Glad you like the content! It's a fun way to explore a new city and have short interactions. My next video is about food photography and it will be online in a week :)

That was fun to watch. I love the way you interact with your subjects. Excellent photography and content. I just subscribed to your Chanel. Have a great day 👍
Thanks a lot for the support Michael! Much appreciated ! I have a new video out soon!
I agree - with post below. I find his humble, self aware style very user friendly which, of course, makes me want to watch more of his videos. Also, the suggestions are succinct and to the point.
Just Wonderful! Good vibes all around. I aspire to use this approach. Thank you.
I just started to get into Street Photography a few months ago and the first place I visited with my new camera was Copenhagen (found a cheap flight from jfk). and I've been following you for about a moth and just realized your from Denmark! but I mainly wanted to say that you they you talk about photography makes it less intimidating for someone who is just starting out - unlike other accounts. Watching your videos makes me want to go out there and just shoot. Thanks for that! I'm hoping to visit Mexico City sometime this year since I have some friends there. Your pics from there are fucking awesome!
Hehe that’s cool to hear. Appreciate the support John!
This is brillant. That's why I like street photography, the ability to connect with people and seal that moment onto the picture. Also, it's a good way for me to "seek discomfort" (this is from Yes Theory channel) which I'm trying to do more and more. Good job bro
Thank you so much Wyatt! Much appreciated! I have a new video out soon!
Wow. So many great photos.
Thanks a lot Jerry!
That's brilliant, nice to see you in action!
Thanks Jason! And welcome to my channel!

So frikin inspiring Frederik! Your amazing!!
Thanks a lot Alice :))
Med din energi og måten du respekterer folk på er det vanskelig å si "nei" til deg Fredrik. Veldig bra (y)
Mange tak Roham!
Nice one. The lineup at 3:00 is wonderful. All good, but that one really catches me.
Thanks Philip! Yeah, like the Usual Suspects :)!
Great video. Your repoir with strangers is amazing, and shows in your photos
Thanks a lot Jeremy! Appreciate it!
Great video, it made me smile a lot. I have to admit I thought few times people would say no but to see them open up and smile was heart warming. I know why I had this feeling. It's because very often people in my country are grumpy, not exactly very welcoming or at least that's my perception. Maybe I need to look at my surrounding with "new eyes".
This is gold. Would love to see more from other countries as well. Thanks for the inspiration 👍🏼
Thanks a lot Armin! Appreciate!
Just found your channel. Absolutely love it! Very tempted to try to get the courage to do this myself.
Thanks a lot Jonathan! Give it a go :) I have a new video uploading right now actually :)!
@@FTrovatten looking forward to seeing it! Just a side comment - it's so nice to see someone with genuine engagement. I hadnt touched my camera in 10 years. When I last took photos, Flickr was king. I literally just created an Instagram account last week but very quickly started to see that there's a lot of...emptiness/falseness there? Lots of bot comments, or empty comments just to get a follow back. Very very refreshing to see you so engaged, just when I was wondering what the point was!
Thanks super good to hear Jonathan! Yeah Instagram is a bot-game right now. I couldn't care less about it. But RUclips is amazing to show your photography - but a lot more time-consuming :)
Great interactions con la gente. Solo bueno. Me gusta tu approach de no shoot from nowhere directamente en las caras. Pura vida, güey :-)
Muchas gracias amigo! :)!
You did well! I felt like I had taken those photos with you too. Thanks for sharing. Nice experience. 👏
Glad you liked it Vhae! And welcome to the channel! Next video will be up in a few days :) And it's a cool one!
I love this. You make it look so easy lol. Definitely a good idea to learn some of the language, people really opened up. I’m inspired for real. Great channel, keep up the good work.

Hi Fredrik, I found your channel by accident and I think it deserves more exposure :) Very well done. This video is absolutely awesome. Your interaction with people is great and you bring smile to their faces. Lift my spirit also with this video. Cheers and continue with great work.

...Buddy, there are some great pics inside your video...congratulation !!!
Thanks a lot Carsten! I appreciate it! Tomorrow I’ll drop a new video 😎
Great videos....very engaging & encouraging to the rest of us, I'm hooked !!!
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Nice video! that outsider eye that you mention is a good thing, very difficult to develop for the local people who use to live in the country and get used to seeing the same things everyday. When I'm out to shoot in my country, I try to use that "outsider eye" also my approach is to go unnoticed but your style of approaching and asking permission is very good and interesting, keep shooting!
Hey Carlos,
I agree. It's almost impossible to have an outsiders eye, unless you really are an outsider. Glad you liked the video! Next video will be out Monday, and it's a cool one :)
Excellent, very nice approach! Enjoyed watching your video! :)
Thanks a lot Muddy and welcome to the channel :)!
Very nice work, buddy. It’s very encouraging.

Awesome video, thanks Frederik.
Thx Marty!
Wow very nice, been watching all your videos... Love the photos.
This was such a great video! This is going to help a lot of people (including me) to "lower the barricade" to going out and doing street photography. It's always easier if you see someone else do it first!
