Awesome review and insight on the Ranger. Beautiful rig. I would highly suggest investing in lithium batteries next. It won’t be cheap. However, it will take the worry away of running out of juice during the day. Also, switching to lithium will save you a lot of weight in the rear end of your boat, which should help improve the hole shot. I would maybe go with 3 lithium batteries(or 2 if your Ultrex is 24v) solely dedicated to the trolling motor. I’d still keep the AGM battery to start the Merc. If you want to run all of the other electronics on the the AGM, I’d run another AGM in parallel. Or maybe upgrade to a beefier AGM, like a Group 31 12v 100ah X2 Power. Now, if you wanted to spend a little extra, just add an extra lithium solely dedicated to all of the electronics. Then you gotta make sure your current battery charger is capable of charging both types of batteries. If not, that’ll have to upgraded as well. I noticed you mentioned money figures at the end of the video in regards to boat prices. They are definitely way more these days. At the end though, I feel it’s worth it no matter what if you can budget for it. We love this sport too much and work way too hard to let anyone tell you anything. You live once. Just do it and go catch a biggun!

I have a Ranger 198P. I don’t care how many electronics I have…..the Boat EFX steps is the BEST addition to the boat I’ve made. You hit the nail on the head. I’m a big guy who falls faster than gravity. Lol

Added Lithium and it was a game changer…..just got them last week…fished Lake Norman all day and I just checked i’m at 91% on the three trolling motor and 98%on the main batter…running 3-50ah for the trolling motor and 125ah for the motor and graphs ( 2x9 inch graphs and Mega live). I went with the ionic batteries and Ionic 4 bank charger. The cost was $1,800 for everything, charger needs to be rated for lithium….you have a sweet setup by the way…

Good to know! That’s not to bad. I mean it’s crazy expensive but glad to know you’re getting good power. Was on the lake today and was out there for 4 hours, running active target and my other electronics and batter was at half draw!

I have a ranger 461 vs from 1996 with a evinrude intruder 150. Its amazing. It immediately gets on plane. The hull shot is phenomenal. It runs 52 mph loaded down. The stability and ride is amazing. I have a buddy that has a 2020 z519 ranger that complains about the hull shot and stability. He previously owned a 96 Ranger 487vs and regrets selling and getting the newer ranger. Its mostly due to the outrageous price of the newer boat and pretty much the same problems you had. If i pay 70000 plus for a new ranger I shouldnt worry about hull shot and stability. The bass boat market is insane now with the cost. I love my 461 vs. I fish great lakes in that boat and its amazing. I think the older rangers were the pinnacle of bass boats.

I also have a 97 Ranger 461 vs with a 150 Mercury EFI. It rides like a bent piece of Steele. I recently had to put some money into the engine otherwise it’s got a hot foot, hydraulic jack plate. Bought the boat from a friend back in 1999 for 19k.

Added Ionic Lithium batteries to my 18’ boat, two 100 amp hour (AH) for the trolling motor (24 volt system ) one 125 AH starting battery that also runs my electronics and have been very Happy. Your electronics are rated at AH they use per hour so adding up your usage for 8 hours gives you a starting point of what you will need. Lithium go deeper (discharge more) whereas wet batteries start losing effectiveness at 50% discharge. Ionic batteries also are blue tooth capable - I look on my phone app for the charge of the batteries. Plus lithium are half the weight. And YES, I paid $3k for them delivered, but guaranteed 10 years. It is a choice I am happy I made.

I have same boat . I’ve got a helix 15 on the dash . Helix 10 and garmin 102sv on top of it . I run 2 ionic 50 ah on the trolling motor and a impulse lithium parallel with a 31 interstate agm . I use less then 10 percent of battery all day long .

I have 4 tracker lithium batteries in my boat. I think they’re 100ah batteries. I’ve been more than pleased with them. Not only do they save a ton of weight but i recently went fishing all day Sunday forgot to turn the trolling motor off and fished all day the following Friday without charging the batteries and still had plenty of power when I got back home.

I don't know about lithium batteries. I have friends that have them, but I have also done some reading. As you know, there have been a lot of explosions and fires from lithium batteries. Computers, automobiles, vape pens, electric bicycles and toys. I read that being overcharged and under charged can cause the battery to heat up and possibly catch fire. Afraid of those kinds of issues and what the results could be.

I’m late to the conversation . Get you some Lithium batteries and you’ll thank me later. I have 2 iconic 100 amp for trolling motor 24v ghost . And 1 100 for 3 graphs & active target. I’m a guy that turns the ghost on 6 and covers water . I can fish 2 days on a charge

    16LIVE
    2×12live up front
    1 for AT
Plus all the other stuff that is needed and my battery never goes below 45%charge during a tournament. Has them for 3yrs no problem

Adding a hydraulic jack plate will not help you to plane off any faster...you need to remove weight from the back of the boat ( lithium batteries) and/or a different prop

Have you considered adding a Power Pole Charge instead of going to Lithium batteries? Just fished on my dad’s boat with it for a week and didn’t plug in at all. A 10 minute run down river will completely recharge your AGMs

I run 5 graphs live foot livescope power poles on 3 50 amp hr iconic lithiums. I can fish 8 hr still have 67% left on the batteries. You will probably loose a little speed with lithiums .

So they sell a new generation for these but if you’re running a sea star system here’s what the DD26 website says:
Seastar steering systems - Usually 4" steering locks 3/4" Diameter (most common) (These clips come standard with the DD26 Gen 2 Mean Stops)
      Thanks for watching!

I owned a Ranger 361v. It was a nice Safe, boat but it was so heavy that it tore up 5 different motors. therefore i will never own another Ranger boat. I own an Allison craft now and i can pick the boat up with 1 hand and put it on the trailer hitch.

I hope you choose wisely. I have. Brand new 1999 Ranger R91 that I bought new at a boat show some 24 years ago. Still love it. Repowered…recarpeted. Although she’s faded from days on the water always garage kept and still a fishing machine. I also have carpet in my rod boxes and after all these years still no stink. The trick is when you park her…just raise all the lids and you’ll be fine. Nice set up.
