Ford's flagship MPV is built with one thing in mind: luxurious practicality - and it succeeds. It's massive, offering loads of space in the cabin and boot. Seven adults will fit comfortably, and both rows of rear seats fold flat into the floor. It's luxurious and surprisingly responsive to drive, too.
Matt killing it 10 years ago
Just bought one of these in 2.0 tdci 140 powershift zetec 2014, all I can say is Wow! What a beautiful car to drive, drives thru bumps like nothing, powershift is lovely especially in Select S or manual mode managing 56.6 mpg this morning cruising 60mph. Very happy Indeed!
''A Giant Sloth on Valium'' That's a proper Top Gear joke right there!
I'm well happy with my Galaxy, it's the biggest mpv I could get for my large family. The other motor on my list was a new Vauxhall Vivaro crew cab auto but the Ford Galaxy won in the end. I love this car, insurance was £260 fully comp, protected no claims bonus with unlimited miles including legal. Road tax is cheaper than my VW Touran & road tax on Galaxy is £175 pa. Superb car, would be nice to have a small car as well as it's a monster size for the supermarket.
My Mum had one of these as a family of six it was an absolutely superb and incredibly comfortable car, it had an exceptionally good ride.
My dad just bought one. And I love it!
Has he still got it😃
@@niteblaster1 yep, 6 years later and with 200k miles done it’s still going strong
@@shax232 How about now?
@@Evofilmss he scrapped it earlier this year, after doing 220,000 miles. I miss the car so much
@@shax232 was it just very reliable or did it rely on high maintenance?
Yep got to agree there, the dsg tour and with the 2.0tdi 140 hp was a bloody quick mpv especially in my last week of ownership when I gave it a Titsing. The new galaxy is just one huge mpv but the next option up for me was a van or minibus. The ford & vw were totally different motors. The Ford just has the big space we needed.
Very comfy and smooth car! Driven one today as a taxi passenger, love ford 😊
The Galaxy has a feature called eco mode. It's in the Human Machine interface. If you select it and it shows 5 full green leaves under anticipation and speed, then there's something wrong with the car. If there's more green leaves to add to your score then it's your driving. Hope this helps. I feel the one responsible as I was the one to recommend the Galaxy to you.
One of the best mpv with boggsest room of space for your complete family!! Good job Ford👌
My Galaxy is the best car I've ever had, period, had 330i BM's etc as company cars; and my own Galaxy is just brilliant at being a car for the family. love it. Oh and the missis won't let me get anything else as she site in the back with the kids and loves the space and seats for sorting them out.
top car
Thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking of a few reasons earlier. You actually highlight one of those - The fact is, in lab tests they often show up as the less powerful variants will be 'more fuel efficient' and 'produce less CO2'. However, in the real world, the 140ps you have to work a fair bit harder in the Galaxy, whereas my 163ps seems comfortable. I used to drive S-maxs with 140ps and I must say, the 23ps difference is extraordinary. My 2 Focii, 100ps and 125ps ecoboost...
Funny you should say that, for my birthday, (not too long ago last year) I visited a dealership in Farnborough, as I am a big fan of Fords, I thought i'd stop by there. I was surprised also that there were no galaxys there, only a Grand C-max and 2 S-max Titaniums. They did have a Mondeo Estate in panther black (titanium X sport, 2.0 powershift 163ps diesel, loaded with extras) which made the trip worth while. There was a lovely ice white Mondeo 2.0 Ecoboost 240ps, with sat nav, so I bought it.
the hight adjustment that will make richard hammond and clarkson happy
In regards to your friends VW transporter DSG, it depends on the mileage it's done. 31.9mpg seems pretty poor for a TDCI, even regarding the fact it's Auto. Tell you what, I'll see if I can get my hands on some Galaxy 2.0TDCIs, one 140ps auto, and another 163ps auto. I'll drive them similarly and see the difference for you. Hope this helps. :)
How come none of the reviews mention that the 3. row also features sliding and reclining seats?!? It's a good feature if you want to transport 7 adults or enlarge boot space in 7 seat configuration. An excellent feature that the 2015. generation has lost and not many MPVs have AFAIK. Also the vertical cargo net is excellent at keeping the luggage in check and not have everything fall out when you open the boot. Excellent car!
Yes, I used to watch another channel, but his reviews had no soul, love your reviews, you can even make an mpv interesting :o)
Hi Sam will respond later to your messages. My 140bhp powershift is returning 37.8 mpg over the last 700-800 miles, I'd say 75-85% city driving and the rest A roads which I'm well happy with. I drive carefully & more often than not is loaded up with kids & a pushchair that I store in the car. Happy so far, had no starting issues lately.
Recently bought a 15100 mile 12 plate Galaxy diesel zetec powershift from a Ford main dealer, after 22 days of ownership broke down with an obvious starter motor issue which was confirmed by the AA. Within the hour it was at a main dealers saying it would be looked at, many hours later they had not touched the car & when they did it started without fault & no fault code. Ford handed me the car back saying there was nothing wrong with it as no fault code.
Well, if this helps; I have a Titanium X Galaxy in frozen white. The rear most seats are so spacious that they can slide forward and aft. There is plenty of room for a couple of bags in the Galaxy. The S-max, being shorter redeems itself with the two rear seats up by having an underfloor cubby with a decent space as well.
My dad used to have a 2007 Model that is honestly the same except his didnt have that many storage space on the roof and it didnt had that panoramic roof , then im not sure but i dont think that we had those cupboards under the seats and the dash was a bit more older but if i remeber i think we had a smaller screen but i dont know honestly
The Air con will reduce fuel consumption by a little, even the CD player saps a tad of the energy. One final thing to consider is the fact that you did opt for the auto. Not only did you make it a tad worse for yourself by going 140ps, but you lose quite a lot of driving force/energy through auto boxes, especially on heavier cars. Take this for example: the Toyota GT86 (supposedly sports car) does 0-62 in 7.6 secs with a man box, with the auto it does it in 8.2secs! On the same engine.
If I was choosing a Galaxy again I think I'd test drive the 163 hp version, I had to have auto but the 140 is certainly sedate although I do very little in the way of motorway driving. Mines the zetec & the spec is exceptional although I've sat in a titanium x & it was amazing although out of my price range. Fantastic car, I've 4 children, one in big car seat/pushchair & it manages. Would be good to see mpg increases, my cars done 17100 miles now.
Personally I like this Ford Galaxy MVP more than the Ford S Max, maybe the other one is more fun to drive, but this one is more practical
Well, I must say that I'm 6ft 1", and there is abundant room, especially head room. even the rear most two seats are roomy, and slide aft and forward. I love my Galaxy, it's in Titanium X in frozen white. I also have the 2.0 diesel, but not the powershift auto. Still great to drive.
I like this guy, hes funny yet really good at reviewing cars....good shit man!
Hi Sam Tripp. The issue with my galaxy none starter going into the main dealers was that I pushed it into a bay at service, was told they'd look at it if I got it there by 10am, I did so but they didn't look at it til 4-5 hours later. If they had put diagnostics on upon arrival I'm sure the fault code would have displayed as at this time the car would not start. Basically my car spent 24hours at a main dealers for nothing.
Sam Tripp. Just commenting on the body roll of the Galaxy. I changed from a VW Touran 2.0tdi with the dsg g/box. I must say the two cars are totally different & the big Ford Galaxy does have some body roll especially compared to VW Touran which is lots shorter & lower centre of gravity. Both cars had 140bhp but the VW was like a rocket compared to the more sedate progress of the Galaxy.
He said that "1.6 liter diesel engine" at 3:09 ?
1.8
Yup. You could get the DV6 PSA engine in a galaxy.
How much boot space with all 7 seats up? would have thought that was an obvious question really...
+Mike Ormesher
I remember it was not too bad, really. About 300 litres or so... which might seem tiny, but in comparison to other 7-seat-MPVs that's actually more than adequate.
And in case you didn't know: Ford recently launched a new generation of this car :)
Mike Ormesher My dad has this car but he doesn't have enough storage
The rear 2 seats slide forward to give more boot space, should've been emphasized on the review.
Ford is offering a Candy Red on the Galaxy soon, as the demand for it on the S-max and Mondeo has spiked. Lunar sky metallic is a dark brown you could have opted for, not a deep kind, but still a dark brown. Nice, look forward to seeing it, why don't you like sunroofs? I only find that they are a pain to clean.
Watching this made me forget why i let my dad replace his for a passat, the galaxy is the comfortable car going, the passat being the most uncomfortable.
My dad also replaced his passat with a galaxy! What a coincedence!
Sorry meant 2 not 3, but then we have often fitted 3rd one in (smaller suitcase) plus other stuff so can basically say three
Hi, sorry to hear your Galaxy is returning not great MPG. My 2.0 163ps Titanium X gets about 48mpg. It is the 6 speed man, but the powershift 163 I drove wasn't much worse at 44mpg. Perhaps your tires are underinflated? Do you always drive with A/C, heated seats, radio and everything on? Other than the MPG issue, how is your Galaxy going? If you have any issues I'll be happy to try and help (I work at Ford dealers).
the engine on the 2006-present Ford Galaxy
Engine
1.8 L I4 Duratorq TDCi, 74-92 kW (99-123 hp) 100-125 PS
2.0 L I4 Duratorq TDCi, 96-103 kW (129-138 hp) 130-140 PS
2.0 L I4 Duratec, 107 kW (143 hp) 145 PS
2.0 L I4 Duratec FFV (Flexifuel vehicle), 107 kW (143 hp) 145 PS
2.3 L I4 Duratec, 161 bhp (120 kW; 163 PS)
2.2 TDCi 175HP
2.0 EcoBoost 203HP
Diggin' the watch gag, Mat.
i think this would sell alright here in North America, even the US consumers might buy it
Will a 2011 galaxy parcel fit in a 2007 galaxy.
The old 1995 Chrysler Voyager puts this new shape Ford Galaxy right in the shade and the 1995 Voyager shape is 17 years old. Our 1999/T Voyager LE is much bigger inside, every row reclines including the third, theres at least twice as much legroom in each row, twin sliding doors, folding mirrors, RCL, Cruise/C, Aircon, fogs, alloys and each seat is a full size seat not half size rear seats like these ones and its got a 2.5 Merc TD engine in it and our Voyagers the lowest LE spec you can buy.
Did you order any other options? I would have recommended the multimedia rear seat DVD entertainment with keyless entry, and powerfold mirrors. The powerfold mirrors are useful on the Galaxy. I also have the heated and cooled seats, and sony premium audio system (the one without sat nav, as my Mondeo Titanium x Sort has sat nav plus).
just a suggestion, but could you guys do some videos on buying used cars and first cars etc? would be very useful :)
keep up the great videos!
The second thing I would ask yourself is this: how many miles have I done? The bad thing with new, more advanced engine Fords is the engines are such pristinely built units, the tolerances are exceptional, so they have pretty shoddy MPG until you run them in. About 40,000 miles is when you'll start to see an improvement in your Galaxy, or you should do anyway. My 163ps Tit x Galaxy is manual it did roughly 37mpg new, now after 65k it's doing nearer 50mpg!
My dad just bought one. He was gonna get a Chrysler Grand Voyager 2008 but the Ford actually runs better and is cheaper and safer and actually looks a lot better interior wise and still beautiful on outside.
I have one of these, ten years, and can safely say that those stowage bins at 0:23 are the most useless idea ever. The 2.2 is the best engine, bags of grunt.
The 125ps gets better fuel consumption - 55mpg, much nearer to the claimed figures than what I get in the 100ps - 46mpg. (claimed figures are roughly 56mpg for both. I know the 100ps is 5 speed vs the 6 speed 125ps, but I only really drive them around town hence why I went for petrol. The fact is you don't have to work the higher tuned version anywhere near as much, it also has more torque as well as HP.
For the first time in all of your wonderful videos about cars I could hear the awful noise of the Diesel Engine at the end.
Great job!
Very interesting and nice review about the car. Its so exciting to watch when presenter comes with new triks in every review to make a viewer interested :)) Great job!
Well, the car is very plush and refined, I'm sure you'll love it. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. The citroen will seem like something you won't want to go back to, especially with the smooth powershift box you have opted for (it's on my 240ps Mondeo ecoboost). The Galaxy is also very safe, even has a knee airbag. If you have any questions with it, just ask me. I know the ins and outs of my Galaxy and will be happy to tell you anything you need to know. Enjoy it. What colour is it?
I hate People carriers meaning I would never buy one in my life!
But you my friend, have just inspired me into getting one for my first car haha.
Calm down a little. The MPG figures are test data only, done independently by the Governmental tests in laboratories. Every manufacturer advertises unrealistic figures. Petrols tend to be off of the figures more than Diesels do, which is unusual given your TDCI circumstance. As stated before though, I get 55mpg out of my 1.0 petrol Focus and it's claimed figure is about 56mpg! When engines are new they are very tight, you need to run them in more so they loosen up. My 1 series was the same.
And before you claim about the MPG, when driven carefully I get close to the claimed 36mpg figure - 33mpg. The thing about ford (unless in the city cars like fiesta ad Ka, with optional spare wheels) they keep the standard spares in, even the Focus does. VW do it too with the Passat, not sure about the Golf, haven't looked in the back of mine.
Awesome Car Awesome Review
Voyager or Renault Grand Espace are like the A380s: hideous but they're like the super jumbos. The Galaxy makes a good use of its space even though it's a little smaller, and the rearmost two seats feel very spacious, it's like the 747-8.
Yes, maybe you have an unlucky one. Shame that. Which trim did you go for - Titanium? All manufacturers, no matter how much you pay churn out factory Friday jobs. One of my old school mates has a 2006 S class and by 2008 it was falling to bits, the sump just fell off of the bottom of the engine? The tranny was abysmal too. Fixed now though.
Can you review the hyundai i40 plz ? Thx
what's the name of your watch? thanks
If the car started fine when Ford looked at it can you blame them? Perhaps take some footage in with it not starting up and show them. Perhaps if they can actually see something wrong with it, then they'll be able to fix it. If it just starts up without issue when they look at it they won't be able to know what to fix really. Have you taken it in for a service?
Indeed. Everyone knows the Galaxy is a lifted Mondeo estate with some changes and two more seats added. The S-max is the same, just that it's slightly smaller and has a sloped roofline to allow for sportier looks and driving dynamics. If you've driven a 240ps Powershift Titanium X Sport, then it is surprisingly quick for a 7 seater... no, don't bring the Zafira GSI or anythin into it, it drives poorly and is cheap tat.
good review
Ford Galaxy does not topple over. I find that it has a little body roll, but the S-max is the sporty version. The Galaxy is the luxury/comfort version. The Skoda Yeti is a compact, lightweight crossover and cannot be compared to a Galaxy. The nearest competitors are the VW Sharan/Seat Alhambra (same car) and the Chrysler Grand Voyager (not very safe and rather expensive).
Just ordered1 :)hope it's good.mpvs r cool if u need 7 seats. Got zafira just now but galaxy looks hard to beat on space:)
I have one and it's the best car we've had none of us have complained about the ford galaxy we where thinking of bying a
Seat but when we sat in it it was horrible so we bort the galaxy
The Toyota GT86 is an EXTREMELY lightweight very compact car. The Focus 250hp ST gets a decent 39mpg on it's 2.0 petrol engine and it's faster than the GT86. It's all about weight. The drag coefficient of a Galaxy is significantly worse than a GT86.
Hi folks. Never owned a Ford automatic before. Any bad experiences with a powershift gearbox? I am a bit sceptical but would love to get automatic. Looking into Galaxy 2011-2012 140/163hp. Cheers!
Did you buy one?
Ive been told by owners that Manual gearbox is the way to go.
Has there been any channel or car that Matt Watson hasn’t reviewed a car on ?
Yes, Top Gear, and Fifth Gear
I still prefer the older bigger galaxy's personally
@supervette2000 Ho, I understand. Well in Europe it's the other way around, manual is common while automatic are quite rare.
Gone in 3 years? Is it a company car? In that case, you needn't worry about MPG much, as it is free fuel anyway. The CO2 is what you pay tax on. If it is personal lease, I can only offer my sympathy and my help so far. I also had a Focus 1.6 TDCI, even when you rev the tits off it, Still returned a respectable 64.1mpg average. I got it up to 80.6mpg (the claimed is 83.1). I find it odd how I am the only one that seems to be getting near claimed figures with Fords. My advice: have it looked at.
And you can also swing it around really really easy. My mum is able to make really sharp quick u turns in it like as so it's a mini, but try do that in the galaxy you'll topple it over (we had the galaxy before hand). Although its just a 1.2L petrel, wow doesn't it accelerate and when you put it in sport WHOOSH you go! I said straight away to my mum, put a 2L in, it will be a Ferrari.
😂 The galaxy has Mondeo under pinnings it won’t topple over 😂😂😂
The Renault Espace has always been the best people/children carrier. These type of 'sporty MPVs' are for parents who hate their children and love themselves more.
Does this have a boot with the 7 seats.
Yes
For those that need a car with enough boot space for a full adult wheelchair with ful size wheels and a seat (without folding the seat down), a Skoda Yeti does that job marvellously with room to spare for shopping and also our two big full size suitcases fit in the boot. The Yeti looks tiny on the outside, and people forever are like "you won't get that in there" but we do. It looks and it drives like a 4x4, but we've got the 2wd and it feels like you're in a hatchback not a big car
And it doesn't stop there! Ford also offers an electronic park brake as well.
Lol! wheres my watch gone. haha
@ktonlai Those cars are SUV's and in case you didn't get it, he wasn't just talking about its sheer size.
Is it 2010?
Continued..it just felt like they left it alone so no fault code would show thus no repair or replacement was required (thus no cost to Ford). When I later had a moan to service reception they were not fussed & said I could take it back broken down as many times as I wanted lol. It's simple "no fault code, no repair", just wondered what happened to good old mechanics???
he even got it in "Doom Blue". Ford know who will buy this.
Chrysler won the minivan market in America suv are cooler to Americans but kia carnival is one of the nicest minivans made in a long time
Take it back to Ford. Be assertive, but not rude and demand they fix the vehicle. If not, abandon your Galaxy at the dealership, in the middle of wherever it'll be in the way most and take the keys with you, leaving it locked. Refuse to move it an inch 'til they fully inspect the car, free of charge under the warranty. ;)
The Fiesta 1.25 is a 5sp gearbox. Is the Clio a 5 or a 6? Also, the Fiesta 1.25 is an older unit than the new Clio's. I've had a look at Whatcar and their true MPG. They don't have the Galaxy, but the true MPG for the (ever so slightly) lighter S-max, with 10000 annual mileage, high motorway mileage and low congestion, with moderately economical driving is 50.6mpg! That's the Powershift Auto. You should easily be achieving 45mpg + so something must be wrong with the car. Get Ford to look at it.
I must ask though, why do you think that? The Galaxy has pretty much all the luxury spec you could ever want.
For some reason when I see a ford galaxy in black I hate it but when I see one in sliver or red I love it. Idk why I do this but I just do it
Continued...so they fail to link up the diagnostics for hours & the intermittent fault does not register. I now have a car that I paid lots for that I have no faith in. Spoke to Ford UK & same with them "no fault code means no repair", the service I have received has been poor. Had the dealership had examined my car when I took it in the fault code would have registered, they didn't & I'm left with a car I have no faith in. Love the car, service is shocking with a warranty with loopholes.
Well I do love ford focus' and ford ka's but I'd never own one. We got a new Yeti (same model) in dark blue (we are on motorbility so each 3 years, new car), and lol doesn't the colour like to change to green in particular light lol. Yes you can't completely compare a van (that's what galaxy is) to a compact car, but then for the most part, the Yeti sure does make a good comparison regardless, especially when you can fit a adult wheelchair (big wheels and seat) and 3 big suitcases in the boot...
The Yeti is a good car but the galaxy’s NVH, ride and handling are miles ahead of the Yeti because it uses the mondeos under pinnings.
...all without putting the seats down. For me though, I still much prefer just hoping on and off buses :P I love buses, got more freedom on them rather than being in the car (where need seatbelts and can't move about) and also I get to know new people lol. Loads of times after shopping my mum says she'll take me home, but I just say no I'm going on the bus, because I much prefer it, much prefer roaming around town ecru getting pics and enjoying my time out whilst wait for bus lol
I have a Galaxy, so I can do a video review for you if you want. i'll upload it to my other account and message yu when it's uploaded. :)
the ford's park assist as well, because I don't even know how to operate that thing
My 2.0 163ps gets about 48mpg. I guess that other guy has a faulty Powershift software! :s My mate Frank has a faulty Powershift on his Focus Titanium. It's the 1.6 TDCI (115ps?) Pwershift Auto and it surges/lurches forward when it changes up. Must say, it was one of the most terrifying drives of my life... it's only got 1900 miles! Imma take it back and whinge at Ford to fix it under Frank's legal consumer rights. Or bad things will happen.
I went in a Ford S-Max that looks like this one.
2:14 - чуть в кусты не заехал)
My dad has 2021
My dad has 2007
I want to know where his watch did go to :-D
He clearly hasn't heard of a Chrysler Voyager which is much bigger in size and better than this glorified estate car (Estate car is a station wagon for you lot in the US). All a Galaxy is and all it will ever be is an estate car with 7 seats. If you want a proper 7 seat jumbo jet get a Voyager like the one we own which has cruise control, captain seats and much more.
3:17 though haha
Airplane reference, well flying cars are the future and plenty could have (some) airplane reference.
You know what's laughable about the GT-86? The 0-62 time of the Auto - 8.2 secs! My Mondeo 240ps will do 0-62 in 7.5 (claimed) but I get about 7.2 secs on premium fuel. A heavy, less aerodynamic Mondeo with a 2.0 petrol is a whole second faster to 62 than a lightweight, supposedly 'hot hatch' or coupe or whatever the GT86 is. I know the manual does 0-62 in 7.6, but it's still slower. A Golf GTI and Focus ST are a second faster than that still, and they're still heavier cars. The GT86 is a dog.
got Galaxy 1.6tdci start/stop and its a gr8 car".GIANT SLOTH ON VALIUM" itsjust the way he drives:] I get exc mpg and its alot nippier than my last 3 Zafiras.usually its just Galaxy drivers that r on valium,
Nope, Ford tests even the smallest details during development. Our family have 2 Galaxys, one from 2006 (1.8 Zetec), and one from late 2010 (Titanium X 60 reg) neither have had issues involving rattles in the overhead bins. Neither have had any problems whatsoever actually.
@PlayHiFi No. It is much more refined, and luxurious.
Wish america would get these good looking cars
