Linda, your garden is not cluttered. Its absolutely lovely!
Hi Linda, yes, my garden looks in need of adjusting too, I’ve been away working a lot, a delivery of bags of bark & compost were dropped off and areas of my lawn are newly composted where I planted new grass seed! It’s a work in progress…from nothing/ but all uneven lawn to developing flower beds!
There are minimalist gardeners and maximalist gardeners. It would be respectful if people would STOP projecting THEIR gardening style on others. Some property owners would rather care for beautiful flowers instead of caring for grass/lawn. Linda your garden is BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE your gardening style. Gardeners should do what makes THEM happy.
Exactly
Yes! Agree 💯
I must miss it all …as i just see positive vibes 🌾🐝🎋❣️love Linda
100%
Why any explaining at all, of what others say/think about your garden on your property? If you love the look, that's all that matters. You do you and let them do them.
Exactly !!
@@jetv1471👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❣️❣️
🙌
I totally agree!
I agree 100%!
Monet would have dearly loved your garden. I can imagine him painting your beautiful creation; and also enjoy visiting on the social patio.😊
What a beautiful thought.
You hit that artist right on. Monet would have loved Linda's garden!
Hello Linda. From an English cottage garden perspective your garden is definitely not cluttered. As an English cottage garden owner I think it is perfect.❤
Linda I love your videos . I am going to offer some advice from the perspective of someone who watches a lot of RUclips videos: I would give less airtime to the critics, the majority of us want you to do you. I come to see you and it makes me sad when people are critical to the point of being rude. Let’s reward the positive and ignore petty or rude comments.
I couldn’t agree more! Maybe this is just me but when a RUclipsr I follow address the critics, sometimes it comes across like we are all being scolded. I’m not a RUclipsr and I can only imagine how deflating it must feel to read the rude or negative comments but I do wish those comments were simply ignored and not given air time.
If a negative Nancy doesn’t like your garden or feels the need the harp on you for not having a railing on stairs, or has to correct your pronunciation, whatever! Ignore them.
Maybe there’s many more negative/rude comments than what we see because they are deleted but IMO I would love to see you focus on the hundreds of comments made by those of us who enjoy your videos and your team!
@@tammy6816 In this case, I actually appreciated Linda using this topic as a teaching moment to explain how the different garden styles can work with the style of a home, or as just a personal garden style.
Yes, I adore your style, Linda. I’m a huge fan. Ignore these critics. They’re miserable people who don’t put themselves out to receive equal criticism.
@@QueenAnnesLace13 oh on this video, yes I agree with you. In fact just yesterday I was looking at my own new cottage garden and thinking it looked a little cluttered. So I really appreciated this video and got a couple tips I’m going to do. In general though, I think the folks who feel the need to criticize a garden of all things and on a free YT channel should just go out to their own garden and sit and smile at the beauty they created before they decide to give negative feedback to someone else.
@@QueenAnnesLace13 i totally agree. The content of the video was good. I think that references to unnecessarily negative comments should be minimised while creating these teachable moments.
It’s incredible what you’ve achieved in a short amount of time.
I can’t help it; I wanna admire beautiful plants and not really the mulch. Give me lush, full, and “cluttered” any day 👍 !
The Minoan lace pulls the look of the garden together It is beautiful!🤍🤍🤍💕😊
I do admire how tactful Linda is when she addresses her critics! More tactful than I would be. 😊
An artist would tell you that it is often the negative space that helps accentuate the key features. If everything shouts, nothing shouts. I think Linda has achieved the perfect balance between plantings, ornaments, and mulch.
Your home and yarden could not be anymore adorable! So picturesque and idyllic! You've done a beautiful job.
I hate it when people project their views on others. I love your garden. I moved into my garden 3 years ago and did what you have done. Some people think it is overplanted, however I love it. We must ignore that little voice that wants us to please others. The funny thing is that most of those people do not even have a garden to look at.
You are the right gardener for the cottage. It was begging someone to create and tend it. Stylistically, there is a difference between a landscaped yard and a garden. People that don't want to tend a garden usually prefer a lawn, trees and a couple of flowering bushes.
Not only is your garden lovely, but it's so enjoyable to hear your teaching no matter
what garden topic you choose. In this current world having such a pleasant thing to
learn about is perfectly wonderful. Thank you.
Your gardens are my favorite of ALL times! You know how to style everything so appropriately !!!! Your garden, your home and yourself!
Linda your garden is far from ugly. Its blooming beautiful ❤. Thank you for sharing your tips. Love from Rosie O from Devon, England 🏴
I absolutely Love your English cottage garden! It reminds me of a romantic cozy home. You do a fantastic job in my opinion. It looks so inviting to me! Love the social patio and your outdoor living room in back as well. I have gotten endless tips from you. Leah and Stewart really add to the fun of watching your channel.
I’ve never thought your garden looked cluttered. It’s a wonderful space!
I've never thought it looked cluttered. It's always beautiful!
I don't think it looks cluttered at all. It is definitely appropriate for the house, and you do a wonderful job of using coordinating colors, etc. Plus you keep things nicely pruned and trimmed.
Btw, I refer to you as "my friend Linda" every time I tell my dtr something about a flower that I learned from you. I'll say "you know, my friend Linda said ......". Your garden is beautiful.
Absolutely gorgeous! The neighborhood looks better because of your stunning garden. I won’t change anything. You nailed it Linda.
You have done an amazing job in 16 months. The work you put into your gardens 😍
an english garden is an english garden!!!!! which i have at my home in the back yard, front yard to be next year.... i dont want to waste my time trying to decide on critics. pleas keep your videos informative, educational, high school is over.. give us good tips as when you started... there are many tips to share. where are the negative tips? i dont see them on your page!!!!
It’s beautiful just as it is. Don’t worry about the people who give negative feedback. It’s not cluttered, just full.
Linda the word "cluttered" doesn't apply to your gorgeous garden space at all! It looks peaceful, creative and well-thought-out. You have mastered the ambience of an English country garden in my opinion. Love love it! ❤️
Your garden is beautiful! People are so rude!😊
New t shirt merchandise idea
You do you 🌳
I’ll do me🌳
In the garden🌳😂
Love everything you do
Fantastic 🪴
I think you have framed the house. The curves of the roof are accentuated by the round lines of the Box for instance. You have brought the house to life as if it was growing out of the earth as well. Love it so much.
Yes that’s what I think too!
I think we should focus more on what makes us happy vs. what other people see. For example, I tend to be a structured gardener while on the other hand, my mother has a more free, cottage type garden. When I’m at her house, I want to rip out all the “clutter” and when she’s at my house she panics when I prune.
When you bought that house Ithought “ugh, why?” But I have no imagination or vision. Your cottage looks fabulous
Gardens are like fingerprints - unique to each person. Enjoy.
The after picture is wonderful!!!! Love it the way it is. Some people don’t like a lot of color some do it’s what you like to bad what someone else says
Cluttered? No mam! It is a wild and free flowing beautiful cottage garden(well maintained at that). I love your style, if only my small area could look like that!!❤
I think the house looks so much more charming in the AFTER picture…After the cottage garden…I also think MY garden looks much more charming since I found Linda Vater’s utube channel…and Garden Answer…Laura is how I found Linda…..All about topiary! Thank you Linda.
Personally, I think a garden should reflect the personal style of the owner. Your property is lovely and reflective of your style. As you said “you do you”. #happygardening
I think you're right about the scale being out of proportion. I would replant it somewhere else.
Linda, you are the most helpful gardener I have ever watched, your tips are fantastic and so so useful!!
I think this was a brilliant video! The design concepts were super helpful. ❤
I don't think your garden is cluttered. This was the most informative video on how to keep it uncluttered; one of the best you have done. I don't know what to do about the dusty miller ball. It is beautiful like it is.
When you first started planning and planting your new gardens I didn't understand where you were going with it all. Now I can see the beautiful results and don't think of it as cluttered at all.
It’s amazing how much you planted in 16 months. I always like that 2nd year of perennials.
Your garden is such a beautiful cottage garden. Love it!❤
Probably People aren’t used to seeing, or having, cottage or English gardens in Midwest America, where front yards are mostly grass with a stately tree and some flowers and manicured landscaping. It was every kid’s Saturday chore to mow. Took all day to do front and back. And in the fall it was raking leaves for allowance money. 😅
What? Mess??
Never listen to this! These are haters!
A mess is when, weeds, dry leaves, garbage, not well-groomed in one word.
You turned this house into a fabulous one. It's a treat for the eyes and for the mood. Beautiful butterflies and birdsong, happy smiles on people's faces. Play of colors and aroma!
I've been watching your channel for a long time, this is the first time I'm writing a comment. I also love your style. This is a garden, this is not a golf course with only grass! This is a garden, comrades, a garden!! And remember how in the Adams family she tore off the heads of roses and put only the stems in a vase, and so in life there are people who don’t like flowers. My neighbor is the same from one side
You garden is a symphony of pure beauty for the eye If I lived near you I would walk around your home with my morning coffee for a meditation moment or 2 o3 🤣🤣just love the look 🥂
Linda,I do not think your garden is cluttered at all! Just inspiring beautiful 🌷
Thank you! I paused video and went outside to pull my extra messy plants. My garden looks better already and ready for more repetition.
The cottage deserves the beauty you’ve created!
I would think if you clip the dusty miller back to a size that is uniform to the scale of your section of the garden that would be sufficient.
I LOVE your garden and have made some big changes in my garden because of you. But I am a little surprised that you don't think your garden is cluttered. NOT that there is anything wrong with that. Like I said I would LOVE to have a garden like yours. It was just funny to hear you say that you don't think your garden is. I love the inspiration, I love your videos and I especially love watching your beautiful garden BLOOM. Thank you!
Linda please dont END the dusty miller!! i think cutting it back and leaving it in situ would be great !!
Absolutely beautiful garden 💚
Your garden is absolutely awesome. Thank you for the tips, I realize I do many of these things, not knowing I was supposed to. LOL I would NOT touch the dusty miller. Thank you Linda you are my inspiration.
To me your garden looks exactly like a garden designer and a gardener lives there. It’s beautiful. I love it.
I love your garden! It is not my style but it is still lovely. Beauty is portrayed in many different ways and we all have our unique style. I have learned so much from your channel and I thank you for that!❤
Every thing looks wonderful! I am amazed at how big and beautiful that Dusty Miller looks! Talk about “romancing the ordinary “! I would trim it and move it to the left in that “void” you mentioned. Linda, you are such an inspiration, not only with all things gardening related but also in how you relate to others. Thanks for everything! 😎🇨🇦
I loved your last garden and this garden. However, I always think boxwoods are too much work. I have a lot of boxwoods! I didn't even realize it. Anyway, most plants in my cottage garden grow taller than me! I am 5'3". Last year, I felt overwhelmed and anxious in the garden because my yarrow, gaura, everything was taller than me! At least I'm prepared for that this year. It was too cluttered and close for me. I will be cutting things back and dividing more this year. This is a great video! Thank you!❤
I like your Bully dusty miller. I like the color contrast between it and the other green balls near it. I say “trim” it into a smaller form so you can see plants behind it. If you replace it, use the same color-way (silver grey) for contrast.
Your garden is absolutely beautiful!! I love it and am following your example.
Love your garden. I love that each person can do their own style. 😊
You could come and clutter my yard anytime! Love your style. Flint Michigan if you have time. 😂 I really do ❤ your home and Yard. Thanks for showing all us your space. Have a Fabulous Day.😊😮
Your gardens are so beautiful! I love all of the variety. Seems like the excessive rain that we have had has made most of the plants just explode. I love the cottage on the hill and your gardens. Thanks for the Wednesday walk about and all of the great info that you shared with us.
Thank you for the tips! I was just outside fixing up some bare spots in my garden. I like the tip on plant repetition, especially when they're thriving like your dusty miller. I find that shopping my own yard helps with that cohesiveness. I really enjoy the way your garden looks!
I wish I was right there next to you taking the plants you pulled out and taking them home 😊your garden looks spectacular
What you have done to your garden is just as amazing. It is a beautiful cottage garden! My neighbor has bare dirt and a tree and shrub here and there! That is her style. She is not interested in gardening. Then you come to my home where there are so many plants. I would rather be outside as much as I can, THAT is my style! Each to their own!
What a lovely garden, peaceful and beautiful.
Linda, I mentioned a few weeks earlier, home gardeners often need to pollenate the female flowers with a small paintbrush that has pollen taken from several male flowers. Bees apparently don't do a great job with pumpkins.
Also 😍 I love everything you do with your garden !
Love your tips Linda- I learn something new everytime I watch. Love your garden and your vlog.
I love that dusty miller looks like a little bush, I don’t think I would cut it this year let it go in its own form this season . Then next season you can train it differently 😊
Maybe divide the dusty Miller and fill in the other place you want some. I think your garden is beautiful and don't worry what others think. A garden is always a work in progress.
Such a beautiful view in front of the house, The garden look stunning!
Well, doesn't a garden, turn a house into a home ❤ absolutely beautiful 💐
Love your idea of an arrangement of dusty miller and Minoan lace. I just made one with lambs ears and bishops weed flowers. I liked the simplicity and the monochrome look. Enjoyed your de-clutter ideas. Thanks. VA zone 7b.
Your garden is beautiful and perfection!! Period.
The huge Dusty Miller is gorgeous. I would leave it as is.
Oh how I wish I was in your neighborhood, to perhaps be able to take some of the plants you edit out. Ha. I keep watching to see if any of your neighbors begin to increase the amount of plants in their front landscapes, maybe even using your 'leftovers'.
I would leave the huge Dusty Miller as is. I think it's fabulous, and I don't even like gray/silver plants.
Your garden is beautiful!!!! Please don’t worry about what others think.
Gardening reflects our personality and I too am like you with design! To each their own!🤗🇨🇦
Your garden is great. I´m a minimalist inside but outside I like it full and overflowing. I think what helps my garden from not looking cluttered is the hard scape: borders made out of brick to hold all the plants together, gravel paths, same materials in furniture, pots, decor ... And a coulour scheme throughout (plants, materials and so on). Greetings from Germany 💛🐝💛
Love your garden. I would dig out some of the dusty miller and move it to your left at the empty space. So enjoyable watching you.
To each their own. I love and are drawn to laying in a garden yard. The house looks loved and someone who loved to garden. Plus, the gardening adds value to the property.
I love the big balls of Dusty Miller.
I drove North on Dewey St and stopped at that stop sign across from your house while the tulips were blooming. I described your house and garden as a shining jewel in a quaint darling neighborhood. If your English style of garden is cluttered, then mine is also and what I prefer, otherwise it would be boring.
That was the way my sisters and I walked towards your house when we stopped and visited this February ❤. Beautiful!
Your cottage garden is lovely. Love it!
Linda your garden is gorgeous, your house is gorgeous and anyone who says different should keep their opinions to themselves! 😁
What a timely video! My husband and I were just discussing if we should trim up the trees. 😂 Thanks for the PSA.💦☀️🫶🏽
❤😊Beautiful. English cottage garden..
Love it! Learned a lot! I wish I’d been out yesterday, I would have come by and taken some of that Minoan lace off your hands and given it a second chance at life in my yard across town!
Great show. Learned a lot but I am one of these people that always wants more! Lol! Texas 9😂
I'd move the dusty over to where you can fit it better. It's nice!
Haha Linda, you must be the reason I can’t find any dusty miller! 😂😂
I think your garden is beautiful ❤
LINDA, YOUR "COTTAGE" & "GARDEN" IS SPECTACULAR!! THE ONLY THING "I" WOULD DO IS ADD A DARK BROWN OR BLACK MULCH THERE AT THE FRONT WHERE THE STAIRS & THROUGH OUT YOUR GARDEN & THAT WOULD MAKE ALL OF YOUR BUSHES, FLOWERS STAND OUT MORE & ADD A LOW "WHITE" BLOOMING GROUND COVER INFRONT OF TALL FLOWERS & WHERE YOUR WALKWAY IS HEADING TO YOUR HOME WOULD MAKE YOUR GARDEN "SING" WITH JOY, BUT THAT'S ME, & I LOVE YOUR IDEAS & SUGGESTIONS & AS ALWAYS, "YOU DO YOUR GARDEN & I WILL DO MINE & THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE WORLD GO AROUND, CAUSE IF WE ALL LIKE THE SAME FLOWERS, ETC., IT WOULD BE BORING!!
🌹🤭😎🌹🤭😎🌷
It looks beautiful.
I love everything about your garden, especially the white Minoan lace
I love your "cluttered " beautiful English style garden. Of course I suppose it is all about management and being able to maintain a garden like that, I couldn't that's why I enjoy yours.
I’d move that dusty miller maybe split it and put in more empty areas. Nice discussion about leaf structure and color contrast
Your garden has been the inspiration for my garden space, having removed the bermuda/lawn. Over time I learned that I put plants too close together and have moved some to other places in the garden creating a less cluttered look. Thinning and pruning are frequent tasks in my yard that also make the garden look cleaner and tidier.
I also move plants all the time now, thanks to Linda and Jim Putnam. I don’t know why I didn’t know I could do that before! 😂
The dusty miller is a show stopper as it is, in my opinion. I would leave it. It is growing as a perfect sphere. 🌱🌱🌱🌱
