Great video, driving on French motorways is a lot less stressful than driving on UK motorways in my opinion. I have driven to La Rochelle, lovely place. The furthest I have driven in France is to a village near Bordeaux.
@@JayMacRay Yep, we have definitely caught the French bug, the driving is so much less stressful in France than the UK in my opinion. (Have driven loads in Europe over the years)
I've just come across your channel as it came up after watching an episode of Planes Trains Everything. I think it has potential to become really popular and successful 😃 (a good choice of car and engine size by the way. Perfect for the kind of journeys you'll be using it for)
I’m planning a road trip from the UK to Frankfurt Germany, and this will be my first time driving this route.will be driving through the French motorway. Since I’m not a regular driver to Germany, I won’t be buying a toll tag. Can I pay at the toll gates in France using my UK bank card? is it easy? Is driving around Frankfurt Germany subject to any special tickets or restrictions, like low-emission zones? Any Navigation Apps like Waze that you can recommend?
@@saaj1234 Sound amazing! The toll booths in France take any Visa or MasterCard as far as I'm aware. I never had any issues using my UK bank card 👍🏻 I've no idea about Frankfurt as I've never been there but when driving in France I just used Google maps, it work perfectly so I'd imagine Germany would be a similar experience. They may also show low-emission zones on the app like it does in the UK but you'd have to double check!
Similar to the other commenter - not sure how you popped up on my feed but here I am, nice video! I drive from the UK down to France regularly - I have the rubbish picker thing as well for car parks. If you drive often enough (or not even really, worth it if you do it once or twice a year) - I would recommend getting a telepeage / bip and go. For us in the UK we can get it from Emovis, which is what I have. It allows you to go through the "T" lanes at the peage. I think they only charge you a service fee in the months you actually use the device which is good. French aires are great, though if you are not in as much of a rush I would suggest trying a route national and then going to a routier in a smaller village along the way - cheap, wholesome food.
Hey, thanks! Yeah they definitely come in handy. Oh that's a good shout actually, I will have to look into that, thanks for the recommendation! We are planning to road trip again next year so I will definitely look into trying alternative routes for sure. What's your favourite part of France?
@@JayMacRay No problem! Works out of the box, linked to your UK credit card - saves a bit of hassle. I'm a big fan of my wines so I go down to Burgundy (normally base myself in Beaune) quite often, and for champagne to Reims - I'll actually be there next week! Short drive from the UK, only 2.5 hours or so from Calais. Driving to Beaune in one hit from London is do-able, but a bit of a long one. Road trip wise though - I would highly recommend Normandie and Mont Saint Michel, or separately maybe head down to the French alps regions for some of the mountain passes and do something like the Gorges du Cians. La Rochelle has been on my list of places to get to, so need to do that soon!
@@sansri88 Yeah for sure! Oh fantastic, sounds amazing, enjoy! Yeah I'd love to go to Mont Saint Michel, it's on my list. It was also be cool to travel along the coast of Normandie and into Brittany etc. At the moment it's easier to do stuff down south as we have a base of operations down there 😂 But, next time I drive over from that direction I'll definitely check out some of your recommendations, thanks!
Hi We have driven from Southern Spain to Essex and vice versa several times. The secret is to drive in France on a Sunday avoiding the motorways because heavy lorries are forbidden on a Sunday so no tolls and no hassle but access to all the resources of villages for refreshments
If you have to drive on the motorways in France, buy a tag which allows you to pass straight through the barriers and the toll is taken from your bank account. Makes life SO much easier!
So much of this video consists of shots of his face while he is talking! I wanted to see scenery, countryside and the area he is driving through. Waste of ime.
@@gars1074 thanks for the feedback. The scenery was much the same as driving on the motorways can be a bit boring. I tried to show anything interesting that came up. If my video is mostly of the scenery I will name it something else. @@FumingFam It sure is! I think I'm total for the trip down it was about £45. So that's from Ouistreham to Ile De Ray and then from there to around the Dax area. So, not too bad 👍🏻
