I’m planning a road trip from the UK to Frankfurt Germany, and this will be my first time driving this route.will be driving through the French motorway. Since I’m not a regular driver to Germany, I won’t be buying a toll tag. Can I pay at the toll gates in France using my UK bank card? is it easy? Is driving around Frankfurt Germany subject to any special tickets or restrictions, like low-emission zones? Any Navigation Apps like Waze that you can recommend?
@@saaj1234 Sound amazing! The toll booths in France take any Visa or MasterCard as far as I'm aware. I never had any issues using my UK bank card 👍🏻 I've no idea about Frankfurt as I've never been there but when driving in France I just used Google maps, it work perfectly so I'd imagine Germany would be a similar experience. They may also show low-emission zones on the app like it does in the UK but you'd have to double check!
Looks and sounds awesome!👏👏
Cheers mate 👍🏻

@@HotubHobos hey guys, thanks for watching and for the lovely comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I definitely will be visiting more historical sites going forward as it really interests me too 👍🏻 thanks for subscribing, I hope I can continue to bring content that interests you 😊 all the best, JMR
Fascinating, thank you. The people who built those walls would not have been able to imagine the world they still stand in today. The mortar used in building the walls is, apparently, much stronger than standard concrete mortar in use now. Not sure of the components of it but I think it is what they call “self-healing” in that micro cracks fill in again due to a chemical reaction of C02 and H20 on the (lime?) in the mortar. An interesting site to visit and peaceful. The amphitheatre would be good for staging a small concert.
That's so true! No way!? Those Romans sure knew what they were doing when it came to construction. They were way ahead of their time. I agree, the amphitheatre would definitely be a cool place for a concert. Especially in the evening with a nice lighting setup facing the trees!
That's awesome!
Thanks!
Great video, driving on French motorways is a lot less stressful than driving on UK motorways in my opinion. I have driven to La Rochelle, lovely place. The furthest I have driven in France is to a village near Bordeaux.
@@andrewbrad6359 thanks! I agree, it's definitely way more chill. That's cool, do you plan on going further in the future?

A great road trip . I live 45 minutes from La Rochelle and love seeing the Pont de Ré . If you do come back this way , check out the Ile de Oleron . PS , Bordeaux is on the Garonne River , not the Dordogne.
That's great! Lucky you! I will be sure to make a note, thanks 👍🏻 ah yes you are right! I did cross the Dordogne just before the Garonne, I think that's what threw me off 🤣

Avoid refuelling at the service stations. I always refuel at overnight stops for the next day’s driving
@@davidturner4350 yeah they are definitely more pricey. I just wanted peace of mind that I had enough fuel to make the journey, time was ticking away and I needed to get past Bordeaux before rush hour. Which as you now know I failed to do 😅
So much of this video consists of shots of his face while he is talking! I wanted to see scenery, countryside and the area he is driving through. Waste of ime.
@@gars1074 thanks for the feedback. The scenery was much the same as driving on the motorways can be a bit boring. I tried to show anything interesting that came up. If my video is mostly of the scenery I will name it something else. The purpose of this video was to showcase the experience of the drive to those who have not done it before as driving in another country on the other side of the road can be daunting. Anyway, thanks for the comment!
@@JayMacRay Thanks for your very polite reply. I feel bad tat my comment(s) was so "cranky".
@@gars1074 no problem! It's all good, I know it can be frustrating when you watch a video and it doesn't match your expectations. 👍🏻
You know those bunkers or “blokhauses” were used by the Germans to fend off landings by the allied forces in WW2? There’s a fantastic museum in Les sables d’orlone which is actually in a blokhaus that was a German hospital. Anyway interesting video
@@jaket5322 oh that makes a lot of sense! The French were mainly defending from the East! Oh really!? That's cool I'll have to check that out sometime! Thanks for the information 😊
That was great. Would love to be able to surf. Did some body surfing in California and nearly died so been a bit paranoid of it since 😁👍
@@PhilipOlsen11 thanks! It's a difficult sport, I'm still a beginner and it's taken me a long time to get where I am. The hardest part is finding the time. I wish I had learnt as a kid. California is meant to be an amazing spot for that sort of thing. How did you almost die though!? I want to hear that story!
@@JayMacRay hi Jay. I was what they called ‘Body Surfing’ in a famous place, called ‘the wedge’. I was out quite far and waiting for the wave, and the waves are big there. The chap I was with was telling me when I had to lurch forward, but I went too soon. The wave then came and hit me pushing me down to the bottom of the bed, where I just remember seeing the water Sandwater as I was spinning around and around and amazingly it has an undercurrent which dragged me about 100 feet underwater and spewed me out on the beach. I genuinely thought I was going to die as it was happening. my mate told me to get straight back out otherwise I’ll never get back out in the water which I did, even though it was very nerve racking. I still have photos from the 90s of it taken by a friend. Anyway, there’s my story.😁👍
@@PhilipOlsen11 haha that's an epic story! I totally get why it scared the crap out of you. I hate getting caught under a wave, it's a nightmare. I try to avoid the big waves if I can but it's not always possible. The worse thing about it is not knowing when you'll pop back up and if you'll have enough air to last you 😅 glad you got popped out on the beach though, that was a result 👌🏻
If you have to drive on the motorways in France, buy a tag which allows you to pass straight through the barriers and the toll is taken from your bank account. Makes life SO much easier!
@@elizabethjohnson4006 ahh yes I've heard of these, I will look into this next time for sure! Thanks!
Hi We have driven from Southern Spain to Essex and vice versa several times. The secret is to drive in France on a Sunday avoiding the motorways because heavy lorries are forbidden on a Sunday so no tolls and no hassle but access to all the resources of villages for refreshments

Similar to the other commenter - not sure how you popped up on my feed but here I am, nice video! I drive from the UK down to France regularly - I have the rubbish picker thing as well for car parks. If you drive often enough (or not even really, worth it if you do it once or twice a year) - I would recommend getting a telepeage / bip and go. For us in the UK we can get it from Emovis, which is what I have. It allows you to go through the "T" lanes at the peage. I think they only charge you a service fee in the months you actually use the device which is good. French aires are great, though if you are not in as much of a rush I would suggest trying a route national and then going to a routier in a smaller village along the way - cheap, wholesome food.
Hey, thanks! Yeah they definitely come in handy. Oh that's a good shout actually, I will have to look into that, thanks for the recommendation! We are planning to road trip again next year so I will definitely look into trying alternative routes for sure. What's your favourite part of France?
@@JayMacRay No problem! Works out of the box, linked to your UK credit card - saves a bit of hassle. I'm a big fan of my wines so I go down to Burgundy (normally base myself in Beaune) quite often, and for champagne to Reims - I'll actually be there next week! Short drive from the UK, only 2.5 hours or so from Calais. Driving to Beaune in one hit from London is do-able, but a bit of a long one. Road trip wise though - I would highly recommend Normandie and Mont Saint Michel, or separately maybe head down to the French alps regions for some of the mountain passes and do something like the Gorges du Cians. La Rochelle has been on my list of places to get to, so need to do that soon!
@@sansri88 Yeah for sure! Oh fantastic, sounds amazing, enjoy! Yeah I'd love to go to Mont Saint Michel, it's on my list. It was also be cool to travel along the coast of Normandie and into Brittany etc. At the moment it's easier to do stuff down south as we have a base of operations down there 😂 But, next time I drive over from that direction I'll definitely check out some of your recommendations, thanks!
Loving the videos mate, my dad also has a property in the south but we are inland in a place called PuyBrun in the Dordogne valley. Will be there at the end of August for 2 weeks can't wait. 👍
@@dominicwalker810 Hi Dom, thanks for watching! It's beautiful down there isn't it!? You definitely get a lot more for your money property wise. I hope you enjoy your trip!
@@JayMacRay absolutely love it, we are in a very small village as well and wouldn't change it, it's amazing. We have been here every year for the last 15 years, it's much better than the typical tourist areas. You see the true France and experience the real culture. It's unbelievable how different it is but only 800 miles from home. If you ever want a good day out , visit a place called rocamadour, with your distance you may need to stay a night. That would make an awesome vid. All the best
@@dominicwalker810 yeah agreed, it's great being out in the sticks. Yeah, you meet with locals who are just getting on with life and not annoyed by tourists all day 😂 I think the most noticeable difference for me is the amount of space and the noticeably slower pace of life. Everyone is trampling over each other in the UK just to get by. Oh nice, thanks for the recommendation, I will add it to the list for sure! 👍

Make a salt and industrial vinger spray and cover with tarp leave for a month it wil kill the shoot
Thanks for the advice! Killing the shoots isn't the issue, as taking the tops off them kills them easily enough. It's the web of roots underneath the grass that cause the repeated growth! Good to know there are other methods of getting rid of the shoots though 👍
