This is my very favorite movie! I lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. It’s just such a NICE movie 😊 I love Lila…and I love the end! It’s so California too. I met so many people there that just let me lovingly into their homes for food and drink while barely knowing me 💚💚 I can’t find that so much on the east coast…where it’s so rigid…and often cold & distant.

God, this is such a powerful scene. It's my favourite part of the movie. I remember, the first time I watched it, I was just shouting at my television, "Come out of the kitchen! Chris, just bring some food out! Aaron's right there at the bar, talking to Lila!"
What I love is the unspoken parts. Christian obviously told Lila the story (about the bet, to seduce the Mormon boy who lived next door) but he was protecting Aaron by never mentioning his name. So Lila never figured out that the Mormon boy who helped her, one day, was the same Mormon boy who Chris had loved and lost. As Chris comes out of the kitchen, Lila asks him, "Is this...? This isn't..." which is the moment Lila makes the connection and realises the truth.
And the way Christian just recovers from his shock and moves straight towards Aaron -- almost a run -- before they wrap their arms around each other and don't let go? That final hug is EVERYTHING. It punches you in the heart, it really does.
I love Aaron's final monologue, but Lila got the best line of the whole movie with, "So your church doesn't like alcohol or homosexuals?" dialogue. My gosh, I loved this movie.

Available on DVD. I first saw it on Showtime the week my Mother died. Couldn't bear to attend to the funeral, and spent the week watching sad stories on cable. Caught this one. Either the way Showtime edited the movie or I missed a crucial scene taking a "break", I was totally surprised by the ending scene. You could have put out the Australia wildfires with my tears!

@@dale19532 Dale, I saw this comment about a week ago, and it's haunted me ever since. I can't think of the perfect thing to say, so I just have to say this. I've been a believer in the "no coincidences" thing for many, many years. I don't know the pain you felt after losing your mother, but as a human being, I can imagine it. Seeing this movie was a way the Universe used to help you. It's never obvious, and at best subtle, but notice all the little things that delayed you to put you in the perfect place at the perfect time on those days when something unexpected, and wonderful, happened. Then you'll understand we're living in a giant, intricately woven tapestry called life. And yes, Australia could use me too, every time I watch this wonderful movie.
