I am a Tuluva from Mangalore region. I feel both the cities are great in their own way. Mangalore has an urban out look.. it sits right on the lap of nature. It has grown without much support from the government. Has an international airport , lots of temples and beaches. Great educational institutions.. best healthcare and lots of options for food. It's cleaner and greener too. It still retains it's tile roofed houses adding a traditional touch to its modern out look. On the other hand when I visit Mysore I become a proud Kannadiga. It's wide well planned roads, beautiful circle's, innumerable heritage buildings, great temples, soft spoken people with helping nature make you feel very comfortable and at home. Undoubtedly Mysore is the cultural capital of Karnataka but also India. It's home to various music, dance , art and Yoga institutions. I have visited many cities in India but Mysore tops all of them in offering you an cultural out look touched by royal heritage (Tvm and Trissure in Kerala come close along with Pune). I love my Tulunadu... I love my Karnataka ...Long live India !!!!
Mangalore has grown by its own. Mangaloreans are behind the growth of Mangalore. My sore is no where near to Mangalore in terms human development index, quality of living and Healthcare
Vinroy Mendonca I agree. That's mainly because of population mix. Bangalore and Mysore have mixed population. Many are not native people. Where as in Udupi and Mangalore 95% of the residents are native to the land. Plus the educational institutions have come early to coast that makes a difference.
I'll break the silence here... I'm a MANGALORE'ian living in Mysore.. Managlore has a lot more friendly people but Mysore is a much well organised and planned city than Mangalore.. Since manglore has an international airport it is expected to be better.. And cleanliness Mysore stays higher on the rank but it's not that clean... Just that the public toilets are much better and more in number than in Mangalore... Public commute wise MANGALORE is best... Mysore transport is so biased .. too many buses plying on certain routes and too less for other.. the frequency of the buses is lot better ..
