I am a 3rd gen immigrant hindu from undivided India , me and my sibling both missed from institutes of national importance by less than 1% , my father struggled through business and my grandfather didn't get promotion because we are from so called upper class , we were not given lands or homes and I have proof of that , Congress called us burden and we are not hindu enough for BJP , we have never used govt school education or hospitals , my father died early nothing is upper class about my life and from the stats of it , never will be , I will be leaving India soon and that should have been done by us way earlier coz people from my community have flourished abroad

Anand sir by saying "incentivising" the private companies to include reservation, doesn't mean the govt is giving a choice to the companies there. For example, if 2% tax exemption is incentive for the companies who give reservation, then it is 2% extra tax for those who don't comply. How's this a choice? This is called penalty.
Govt is also taking a cut in its earnings
I am starting to rethink my whole outlook about this person after this episode.

A government looks at the macro picture of the economy and not just the singular benefit of a company or two.
The government also realises that for the entire country to be prosperous, an absolute majority of its citizens need to be included in the economy for value-generation, even those who are underprivileged.
Our scarcity+hoarding mindset is what's holding us back.

This is so true. I gave NEET and in my first attempt scored 560. However, I could not get admission to a government medical college. I was very sad when I found out that a boy in our class got into the medical college with just a score of 396.
This was the first time i came to know about reservation and caste.
Had to try again for getting into a gov. Medical college.

Your approach of comparison is misguided. You should consider only the seats available under your category. E.g GC , GC + OBC (Non creamy layer), GC + SC, GC + ST, GC+ Women, GC + OBC (NCL) + Women … , GC + Quota + PH, GC + Quota + Children of Armed Forces (CAP). You also need to look at number of people competing in each category. It’s relatively high for GC and too low sometimes in few 100s for STs. If you have not considered all these factors in the field u could get disappointed and keep complaining about the system. E.g. My cohort in Masters was a Brahmin and made the cut in CAP category with a rank of 8,000. The rest of the field excluding SC/ST & women was below 1000. We can’t be jealous or pity someone in the class of 30. They were no mugs either as they competed equally well in the course. Yes many of them did not have systematic education like the rest.

I have lost all respect for anand ranganathan. He is just being a people appeaser. I thought at least people like him would have the courage to at least discuss the cons of reservation but he is just focused on justifying the statement that he made. We need to find better ways to uplift the dalits which do not make upper class feel dicriminated against. I go to a medical college where the fee for general category students is ₹14,00,000 per year. For OBC's it is ₹7,00,000; for NT's it is ₹1,40,000 and for SC/ST it is ₹14,000 which is 100% refundable if the student has a Non Creamy Layer certificate (i.e income under ₹8L). This is in addition to the cut off criteria which for me(a general category student) was a rank < 50,000 and for a SC student was around
OBC NCL*. Sare obc ko reservation nahi milti bhaijan

And after getting those freebies they don't focus on studies cz there's nothing to loose.

You can't remove caste because it is something like racism, adultery, etc. You can enforce strict laws so that it doesn't happen. Doesn't justify reservations where merit is comprised.
BS. Most guys studying in suburban and urban areas don't know sh!t about caste. They only do when suddenly a guy who is living and studying in the same circumstances as them secures a seat by scoring even 100 marks less than them.
Yes, casteism is still there but the reservations still make no sense. Not all people go through it and not all upper caste people do it. All it does is give seats to undeserving people and cause brain drain.

I belong from the south Of Bharat, I am from a caste called Nayaka, we are Kshatriyas and still have swords crafted, but fun fact in 1971 we got ST reservation, I cannot understand why, some say that some of our people were oppressed thus we got it, but I am preparing for NEET and want to get into a med college without using my caste certificate, people look me in a different sense when they got to know that I am ST and say I would get a medical College in 450 marks out of 720, but I don't want to use my caste certificate none of my family members have ever used it and still I see Twitter where people say don't go to reserved doctors, I feel real sad, I just want to be a doctor so that I help people and do good karmas get good punyas and die a good death, andha pushteni Paisa hai this was never about money, but still I feel really bad, what can I do ? Stop aspiring to be one? It's not my fault we have reservation, and I understand what General UC's go through its way to much hardwork to study efficiently than just swiping the caste certificate.

@@insearchof9090 brother the issue of manipuri's is entirely different that what mine is, the fact is my family my bloodline never were oppressed, some people were oppressed and not well versed in Vedas and Dharmagranthas thus generalized the whole caste and they gave this reservation, I live by Manusmriti which was taught to me by my grandfather, I donot deserve this reservation nor my bloodline has traces of being tribal, I studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya and the whole fee I paid for the education from 1-12 is just 40 thousand while my friend who is UR paid more than that while his mother was working as a sub staff in the school, I didn't knew back then what was reservations but when I got to know I felt real bad, it isn't that I don't want to make money, it's just that koi bhi kaam karna he hai toh vaidya ka kaam toh sarvasreshth hai that's all and I won't use my caste certificate none of my family members have used it so I won't too

Reservation is fault line in Indian society.
If it continued it will cause one more break in country.
There is nothing like positive discrimination. Discrimination can only work if its on merit.

If you do not have a lower caste certificate then your vote does not even matter. In a democracy numbers matter. General category are minority by sheer numbers. Why would a politician make policy to appease a minority? He won't have any use for your votes.
Most of the poor people as claimed by Caste leaders are from Dalits. So what's the problem with income based reservations? The Dalit leaders say Reservation is not only for economic upliftment, but also to ensure proportional representation as per population share. So the argument of historical oppression is sidelined with demography wise representation which will eventually result into breeding competition sooner or later.
Historical reasons are flawed. Becouse you can't pin point the blame on us becouse we lost the rein of the rule in 1000Ad. Many so called enlightened empires came in between. From Mughals to British. If they are being exempted, why should I feel the pain!!! Hell yeh...I am against reservation on the basis of caste. Because we alone didn't take part in it. And people all over the world were living under same kind of oppression. Japan... china...Korea...England...Greece...Islamic world...USA in latter parts. The argument of Anand boils down to: “Oppressed for 2000 years henceforth reservations everywhere!”

They have undergone many exoduses and genocides, they are a small minority in the world and they have suffered arguably the worst of all: holocaust by the hands of the racist regime of Hitler. Even after all such suffering, they have been largely a successful community, producing giants like Einstein and Zuckerberg who shaped the world in their own ways. They have never been demanding of affirmative action in the countries they reside. Not even in India where they are in so few a number and a community living on their own.
We cant draw parallels here....jews never asked for affirmative action bcoz they already carved out their own country, governed by their own rules & dominated by their own community...so why do they need reservations in a country ruled by them?
Second, jews neither faced persecution nor faced any kind of discrimination in India as this was one of the rarest, safest & tolerant places for jews compared to any other part of the world...

Positive Discrimination is an Oxymoron. No such thing exists.
Private sector reservation will end up same as public sector. Will rot into another DEI as government wades oninto private business. If an person from x community is discriminated by someone else then it is not MY moral responsibility, it may be yours. It is your personal responsibility not mine. Hence do not use my tax money to fund any caste based reservations. If you want such things then pay extra tax and extra fees to fund privately.

Reservations are another way to transfer the guilt of some of the upper caste to their new generation. This transfer of guilt is why Anand was against Yogiji bulldozer policy. I dunno why the non-left turns out to be all loony when it comes to reservations. Such a shame!

These guys are so out of touch that they don't know that most of the people taking advantage of sc/st reservation are far more rich and affluent and aren't ready to vacate the place for other groups in same catagory who were late to take advantage of it and hence, they are prolonging the gripe.
Only a mad man shall want to continue the reservation in such circumstances. It's a challenge that even after 1000 years of reservation, there will be ST/SC people in this nation. Becouse current system doesn't have internal dynamics. Who has to be in, who should leave, what should be chriteria... nothing.

50% Limit must be sealed by the supreme court, else we will have lot of caste fricition and lowered quality delivery of government services and scapegoating in society, no amount of economic growth will be able to undo this toxicity.
Even if sealed, government can easily breach that seal by using parliament.
Sc st and obc s are less organized more landless than the uppercaste who sit on most decision making positions in government making one bad policy after another,there was always friction .

I have no problem with reservation as long as it covers all the people. That kind of reservation is only with economic reservation. People should not be thrown to creamy layers but into economically weaker section and/or out.

I think I’ve heard enough, while I have the sympathies with the SC and ST I don’t agree with the inequality that a person from General category has to suffer. Why should a general category person should suffer because of the lack of ineffectiveness of the government in emancipating the SC/ST classes.
A general category person gave up in being a doctor, aiming to be a government official of any sort and now we have to be even give up on the private sector.

I am sadden to see the reservation being advocated in private sector... My family member is one of the General Category member who cracked an entrance and I have seen that person struggling immensely because the incompetent union reserved classes who don't work being incentivized. I think this is the shittest system as 1 competent person in a department now has to drag on for the work of 3 other reserved incompetent people who are just lazy and arrogant and misogynists but politically active due to unions and therefore are always held to a very low standard.
I for the first time, strongly diagree with Anand sir. incentivising companies for hiring certain people, is not a choice. There is no place for us "unreserved" in govt sector. The only way to dilute reservation is to build a large network of schools where the free/subsidised primary education given is of higher quality and the infrastructure is good with highly qualified teachers. Reduce the knowledge gap that exists between students of different boards so that they can find their ways into better colleges and eventually good jobs too.
Push the rest into labour intensive manufacturing. We will get there on the manufacturing side....but education has a long way to go.

Hi Kushal, my take on reservation would be that it should be replaced by income standards rather than caste because there are poor people who need reservation but are obc & general category also and this income standard would be measture to understand how it is working and it's effectiveness.
Reservations will die a natural death when Our economy becomes less dependent on Government jobs and more focused on private sector. It will happen naturally with time. And because We are a democratic Nation, Instead of a top down approach This will happen with a bottom up approach.
As per the stats the General category is in the minority and these reservations are discriminated against this minority.
These reservations are a slippery slope, starving this General category minority is will only result in this minority feeling resentment towards the Indian society and the reservation category.
Giving incentives and nudges in itself is the deciding motivator. Its not a choice if its discriminatory in any sense.

When you say they are discriminated against education no you are wrong no one was discriminated against when it comes to normal education they were discriminated against in learning of vedas and temple rituals and some other texts only these were reserved we can see from Dharampal book the beautiful tree that even lower caste were learning in gurukuls in 1820 's across India. Lower caste where doing there business/work without any interference from other communities. All communities has set of rules which were set by their community itself for their work and even kings would not interfere in those rules. When they say Lower caste were not allowed in temple it is not the complete truth as yes there are temple which didn't allow Lower caste but there are some temples where they can go without any problems and some temples are community specific and it is true when they say lcs are not allowed in upper caste areas and but when they say they had no water to drink it is wrong as they would have their basic facilities in the areas they live. There was some social distance but there is no economic distance and temples are built by cooperation of various jatis not just one . Lower caste lost most of their land and wealth during the British and to some extent during Muslim rule. Also from 11th-century Inscription found in Nizamabad reveals land grant to temple & mentions 20-30 caste professions serving the God. If only one group is allowed in all temples these things would not be there.. I don't know how these people say ucs discriminated against tribals when tribals by choice choose to live in forest I wonder why ucs would take so much effort just to go into deep forest and bully them will tribals allow such bullying is another question 😂 when in fact kings had good relations with tribal chiefs tribals and people who are living outside had mutually beneficial relationship.

1. What about Tantris, who is the family that has done the Pran Pratishta of the temple. That is usually a hereditary position. Though they don't come daily to the Temple, they hold a 'big say' in the temple matters and are highly regarded to the extent they are considered the Father of the deity.
2. What about the Temples whose existential legend is based on a family like the Naga Temples in Kerala whose legend itself is Nagaraja being born in the family and it is always the oldest woman of the family that is the Poojarini and considered Mother of the deity.

The amusing thing is American got rid of Affirmative Action stating it bred more inequality whilst India continues Reservation. The whole issue stems from not knowing the difference between smriti and shruti texts. Smriti reflects the opinions of people who wrote it and basically twitter comments of yesteryear. We don't know whether people agreed with it, disagreed with it, nothing. We just know it reflects the ideas of the person who wrote it. Smriti is categorized as literature and essentially opinion pieces with bias. On the other hand, shruti is scripture & consists of The Vedas. Shruti is considered the word of Brahman (God) and hence studied and the foundation of the faith. People stating Hinduism propogates caste are ignorant. Using cultural literature ie. Smriti, such as Ramayana, Gita, Mahabharata, the infamous Manusmriti, sutras, puranas, etc to inform you of religion and tenets of Hinduism vs shruti texts (ie. VEDAS & some Upanishads) is ridiculous. There definitely were people who called themselves Hindus who propagated ideas of profession hierarchy. However, does HinduISM propagate these ideas? No.

You are taking those texts OUT of context and you are cherry picking. There are more texts that say that jati and Varna are quality and work based.
Nevertheless, the point is that certain communities got badly badly oppressed in the past 1000 years and esp in the past 200 years due to first Islamist caused oppression and devastation, and then by western colonialism. The fact is that those communities have suffered horribly. And they need to be helped.
But I do NOT think reservations will have any substantial impact. The issue would be solved at community level with active participation of communities. Through temple and community programs. I think there is a great arrogance in the govt when it thinks that it is there to impose solutions too down and make society equitable. They forget the capacity of the communities.
Govt help and direction is fine. But I hope they nudge community programs and temple economics.

Reservation in India was in the first place like choosing amongst beggers that who shall have extra chapati. It wasn't like western nation from where this concept has been taken. It's not like America where white people have accumulated so much wealth and blacks live on tatters. The muslim ruke and British rule last for 1000 years. And after independence, there were only beggers in India, beggers of upper and lower caste. Rich got into politics and formed political houses. So, the Supreme Court should take political decisions that the government wouldn't? That's not their remit. We should actually be holding people accountable for delivering on their roles than on filling up for someone else. And by the way, the Supreme Court also jealously guards its public perception (not too different from politicians in this way). That's why it would not decide on the validity of farm laws which was a fairly direct legal issue.
Its impossible to create reservations in private companies as private sectors thrive on profit than govts which can fail once or twice or even many times but still stay where they are! Private companies just have to get negative gains to go bankrupt!
Give importance to merit! Govts just can make sure that every sect of India doesnt have any problem in getting better education etc, its not just infinite reservations but rather give them basic things which will stop them from giving good education to their child!

This debate is unnecessary. Whole idea of reservation is unfair to people who deserve on the basis of merit.Reservation has holding our country back and creates discontent in the organization because meritorious people suffer. Help these people financially and providing facilities but merit should not be ignored. If I was running a company I will provide job to the best available candidate. Reservation is just a vote grabber.
