    What a change the tree makes with the modification of the planting angle. Thank you for this new video full of information.

      Yes, orientation can change the whole look of a tree!

    That is a trunk and a half. Really cool. Nice step by step going through the potting and the trimming of the tree.

    The positioning angle you’ve selected does really slow off the full beauty of the tree. I can see how this tree will soon become even better. Oh, the carving and enhancements for the deadwood are intriguing. And I whole heartedly agree that it looks better in a round pot. Thank you for this video.

    A big part of the reason I love your videos so much are your birds. Your birds make me feel so relaxed. They also remind me of warm weather. It is so cold here.

    Nice information, please tell about how Deadwood use.

      Let deadwood be…and you’ll have a natural looking bonsai. Clean up some to make it tidy when you are ready to show/display your bonsai.

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I enjoy all of your videos. I would like to know how you went about going from a 36" container to a bonsai pot. I purchased a few juniper older in 3 gallon pots. They are all so pot bound it seems there is little to no soil. Is there a way to reduce the roots without killing the plant?

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  8 месяцев назад +1

      For sure, risk is reduced if you do it in stages. That is, reduce a fraction at a time. What you will find is most of the root bound is near the bottom and the sides…so trim them off to encourage fibrous roots in the rootball. Then do the final cutting to go into a bonsai bot.

    what would be the chances of an episode on presenting "Beautiful Root Basics"? i still don't understand what my dad is trying to convey to me. thx dr chang!

    Now that the tree is on a steep angle, how will you promote the roots to grow higher on the now sunken side of the base?

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  8 месяцев назад

      Roots will develop over time where the trunk touches soil. It is beneficial to put rooting hormone on the trunk to stimulate root development.

    Is that just juvenile and adult foliage or has that been grafted w new foliage. It almost looks like you have 3 types of foliage on there? Shimpaku-esque scales, the leggier blue foliage and some presumably juvenile needles?
    Beautiful tree

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  8 месяцев назад

      Definitely not grafted. Juvenile leaves are needles, just at a different stage of maturity.

    I’m watching this video now. I look at that tree and I don’t see a need to find an apex. The top of the tree looks fine just need some more growth and refinement. So many become concerned about the rules that they overlook the beauty in the subject. The one reason i watch your videos is the fact that you don’t follow the herd. One of the things i learned when i was getting my MFA is art can break the rules and still produce beautiful works.

      Thank you for the feedback! Agreed, you don't need to follow the rules and you should make bonsai into your own creative vision.

    How much this exemplar cost?

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  8 месяцев назад

      A fair price is the price you are willing to pay. So each tree is different, and to different people.
      I also have to learn not to describe the age of a bonsai…That’s something you never ask a lady, right? :-)

    The biggest problem with the tree is its not in my collection.
