I've been in recruiting, staffing, and HR for over two decades now in the US, and Glenn is spot on. If you want to see the true face of entitlement in the US, you don't go to an unemployment or welfare office, you go to a boardroom. Employers, who KNOW the median wage for a given job in their area, will routinely try to undercut it but at least 10% to 30%, and often more, and then complain that, "nobody wants to work." If you tried that with ANY other input into a business, you would be laughed out of the room, and be out of business very soon. If, for example, you needed steel but couldn't buy any, because reasons, and then gave a speech about how steel manufacturers were lazy and didn't want to make bar and coil anymore, everyone would know you were full of shit and fucking nuts. The FIRST question you would be asked is, "what did you offer to PAY for that steel?" For some reason, when it comes to labor, employers think different laws of economics apply and that employees are solely to blame when employers offer them shit wages, and they have the wherewithal and presence of mind to turn down those offers. In the labor market, for some god unknown reason, the seller is always at fault, the buyer is always right. That's bullshit. No employer that pays at least the median wage for a given job ever has any problems finding OR retaining employees.
People like you are exactly the kind of people we need in this world! Truth there. I have two college degrees. Enough contract and consulting work to make someone's eyes water. And certifications in my field that most people don't even have. Yet the employers who were saying they could not hire anyone were the same ones who would see me being blind on a resume and say that I was just not the right fit or some variation of that. So I said screw them and started my own business in my field. I have two rules. Pay above indusrty standard. That way I can make the work worth it to people. If you value people for the work they actually do they will in turn value the work they do and thus make more money. More money is always good for everyone. and be open to the unusual. Give me your cast aways. Your broken an beaten. Your dregs of society. Because where other people see them as not what they are looking for in their little check boxes of who fits what I see people who have something to prove. People who are going to have a fire under their ass and want to show that they are worth more than what other places saw them as. I'm not saying I am correct, but at least from my experience this has worked out for every person I've hired. My highest performing employee is a gentleman who made a mistake as a kid and got pinched for dealing drugs at 18. Did a couple years up state and came out with a criminal record and by extension nobody willing to hire him outside of fast food. He literally applied to a job opening I had because he was trying to keep his unemployement benefits after losing one job and while looking for another. I saw he had a solid work history. And gave him a reach out. He'd never worked around financial information a day in his life, but was trying to go to online school to get a degree. He wanted to learn. And was willing to adapt. Where people see a felon who is any number of unflattering things because he screwed up in the past I saw a husband and a father who was busting his ass to do better by his family and at least from appearances had left that life behind him. Where people see dealing drugs I see someone with a drive to hustle and to work as hard as they have to to make a buck. With the right kind of motivation and good influence I can turn someone like that into a force of nature in my field. And I did. When you value people as people they will work harder. Which means you make more money as a result. Invest in those who will invest in you. At 31 I have no right to be running a business in the financial industry that is worth as much as mine is. But I am. And it is because of the people around me. Employers need to remember that from times. That people more than anything are your single bigest commodity
It doesn’t help that most companies rely on software to look for candidates which eliminates most potential hires. Or that the demands are unreasonable. Cybersecurity is desperate for workers right now and I go get a cybersecurity degree from the best community college in my state because I wanted a career change to something I was passionate about. I taught myself how to code websites when I was a kid because I wanted to know how they were made. So I get a cybersecurity degree, a bunch of cybersecurity certs, and zero job offers. These companies are telling me how desperate they are for cybersecurity personnel, but nobody wants to train you even if you’ve already got a foundation. I can work my way up from entry level to bank manager, but I can’t work in cybersec. No investment in employees wanted. We only want to hire from within the industry and then wonder why we’re so desperate for employees.
Companies can't let go of the 19th century mindset that says workers should be grateful to receive a pittance in exchange for most of their time and energy. Workers have never willingly accepted that idea, so unlike the 19th century, when you could mow them down with gatling guns whenever they refused to participate, today you need to pay them enough to meet their needs, plus some more on top if you want them to give a shit about the work or the company. Most employers still haven't figured out that paying them just enough to convince them to show up means they will withhold productivity by giving minimum effort. It's like paying for the lowest speed internet plan; you've saved money, but you aren't getting value for money, and it's a worse experience all around. Boardroom entitlement is insane. Many directors do sweet fk all actual work, especially compared to what they're paid (some do almost nothing), but they love cultivating this myth that they're some special breed, who are the only ones that can do what they do. And the nepotism... for every person in a boardroom on merit, there's one who simply knows the right people or went to the right school. I've seen it firsthand. They don't belong on a pedestal. As for the "businesses can't find workers" narrative, stop advertising ghost jobs to harvest data and let's see what the real job vacancy numbers look like.
Nobody wants to work. There is a demand for workers so the wage offer should be more, right? “No, let’s just illegally transport foreigners into the country, pay them less, and charge the tax payer to house them. This board meeting is adjourned”.

As an American I love you pointing out how fucked it is here. I feel we could all listen to outside perspective. Don't get me started about both sending a country money and weapons and the giving aid to the people they kill. Seems fucked.
Well it is, but is not just the US, is the government everywhere, I'm from the south of the border and the government knew about Fast & Furious operation and they help that manslaughter. As far as I know every politician is a greed bastard, ones for money and the worse for power itself, and they think we're all are their human cattle. It happens everywhere, so I know that the US Government do not represent the majority of their people as I'm dead sure that the government here doesn't represent every mexican. The conclusion I got is that the worse of society are not in a 4*4 jail cell but on the Congress or Gov building, specially the military (deep state). This goes with the evil state founded or simply greedy company as well. So we need to exercise the little power we've got left that is our money and our precious finite time. Sorry for my bible, anyways I hope you have a great time despite the terrible crap that our governments put us just to divide us and make fight between each other instead of overthrow them, greetings from Mexico.
Yes, and POTUS keeps telling us that if we keep sending money, that country will win the war when the facts are that they are NOT winning, and they cannot win. We Americans are being lied to, big time. The facts are also that the war is none of our business. There's no reason for us to be involved in any way. We have no commitments, and nothing to gain as a public. If you feel a knee jerk reaction that morally we should be there, it only means you've been brainwashed successfully.

The funny thing about the “Fender and Gibson are now luxury brands, look at what you can get from Epiphone at $900” bit is that fully demonstrates the validity of the Gibson business model
@@JayBirdGuitars Epiphone is owned by Gibson. Squire is owned by Fender. It makes total sense for the Fender and Gibson brands to move up market while Epiphone and Squire take up the lower end of the market. It makes a lot of sense to carve out different segments for your different product lines
Wow, I didn't know Yorkville still existed. I bought my combo Yorkville bass amp in 1988 when I cashed out my pension(because I resigned, not because I was retiring, LOL) from Warner Elektra Atlantic. It still works! It's traveled quite a bit and looks like it. I traded it to someone for an amp, I know who has it, and he still uses it. Also, I'm having a bass made for me by an American luthier. I am confident it will be amazing, judging by his other work, for around $1100 US.
Yorkville, which still makes Traynor amps is in the east end of Toronto.Great products. My keyboard amp, which I bought when I was 18 still works great. I'm 68 now. I call that quality!
I have a picture of a Gibson neck cutaway. I'd love to send it to you. It shows the design that hasn't changed since the 1950's. It proves they do this shit on purpose.
The people who buy the guitars don't want any change, they want them exactly like they were when they came out Despite the fact that Les Paul's are wildly uncomfortable to play
@@MittensOnly That's the one thing (out of many) Leo Fender did right. He wasn't a guitarist so when he designed the Strat he asked guitarists for input. You know, the people that actually use the tools, not some yokels who wouldn't even know how to hold one.
@MittensOnly I think ESP have perfected the Les Paul style shape with their thinner Eclipse bodies and made them way more comfortable. Fernandes Monterrey as well. Wouldn't buy a Gibson LP. Wanted a Zak Wylde Bullseye years ago or a LP Custom but not interested in LPs anymore
Chinese made guitars are alright if you just want to sit at home and dick around, but if you spend two hours a day learning new material, do two 4 hour band practices a week, and then do 3 gigs on the weekends, then Gibson is the workhorse that you need. Even the cheaper Studio Les Pauls will handle that kind of playing. Chinese guitars will warp, bend, twist, and fall apart within a year of that kind of playing. They are made to look shiny and new out of the box, but they really do suck donkey schlong.

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that companies have to operate in the interest of their shareholders as opposed to their employees or their customers. That's why the employees get jack and the customers get fucked with the prices.

Australia is the same. We used to get really weird stuff like paid "annual leave" and this really out there thing called "sick leave". Imagine a couple of weeks off with flu or injury and you didn't have to worry about rent and bills?
Hey Glenn. Your thumbnail for this video made me sad. I broke the headstock on my LP in 1999. I was 19 and it was a month before our band was to go into the studio. Luckily it got fixed literally the day before we tracked but it required an 800 mile round trip drive to get it. Having said that, can we get a tour of the studio? I would love to see the setup. Hopefully next year my wife and I will be buying a new place and room for my studio is a must. I just want some inspiration. Thanks and keep up the kick ass work!
the necks on gibson guitars breaking has been a consistent issue with them for over 40 years now when my grandfather was a young man he use to get gibson replacement necks and all the hardware and build the bodies put them all together paint them and sell them as gibson guitars that needed neck replacement the replacement necks had serial numbers on them he counterfeited a bunch of gibson guitars and made decent money doing it...
I love your channel but you really should stay in your lane. Your understanding of economics is high school level at best. Stick to music and recording.
My first guitar was a Epiphone Les Paul special ii. I loved that thing. A "friend" of mine offered to upgrade the pickups and do some tweaking to it for a small fee. He kept that guitar and disappeared.
Only fender I've owned was a 90s fender mim Jazz v it was stolen so likely be the only fender I'll ever own .. as a bassist I play mostly spector basses now ..
Hey Glenn, how about a series where you take the raw recording of a song and take us noobs through your entire process of mixing and mastering to finished product? Love the channel. Keep doing what you're doing.
People sometimes calls a remix a remaster and that bothers me Remixing includes changing the actual mix whle hte master keeps original mix 100 the same as original
Both remix and remaster still need to use the multi track original studio recording. The chance of getting exactly the same mix is almost impossible and actually pointless, unless the original master is unusable. There are many steps involved in getting a final mix, especially with LP's each of which will affect the final product.
@@valvenator No, a remaster only needs the stereo mixdown. When a mix is done, its usually bounced to a stereo file/tape and thta is sent to a mastering engineer. That has headroom. That can be remastered later.
2:47 the issue with the competition is that China pays their workers in the factories $5 a day, so there's no way for an american company to compete unless they also start paying their workers $5 a day this is why it's hard for any country to directly compete with china. Not to mention china gets subsidized shipping rates so there's no chance an american company can compete without committing human rights violations lol a Mcdonalds worker makes $10-15 an hour. A chinese guitar factory worker makes anywhere from $0.20-0.50 per hour. Calling the two the same requires huffing a TON of copium. When you talk about all the money going to the top, consider the chinese billion dollar companies paying their workers $0.50. not burger flippers being paid $15/hr with benefits
I have a Fender Geddy Lee bass that was made in Indonesia I believe and have played the f**k out of it for 7 yrs and still do LOTS. I paid $1300 CAD new. The American made version is $4-5 K. there is NO WAY that there would be a $3K improvement in playing, sound, feel or anything else.
well not really and it's dishonest to use an outlier example to compare with a persistent problem of forced labor in a country that by far has a one of the worst human rights records in the world. It's far cry to say that people who are complaining that slinging latte's for $20/hr is a hard life, is the same as someone who is a political enemy and then forced to mine or farm under the thumb of the state. This country isn't perfect, but it's far better than most and if anyone doesn't believe what I have to say, ask an immigrant. Most of my team are immigrants from Africa and the Middle East, they laugh at these complaints and middle class America could stand to learn a lot from them Additionally the change in the labor law's he's talking about are actually relating to traditional trades like construction. In years past teenagers entered these trades and learned to do those jobs at an early age and in turn graduated highschool with a marketable skill that pays well. Labor laws went too far in keeping young people out of the workforce including trades jobs and it's actually hurting this country. There are over 600,000 unfulfilled skilled trades jobs in this country and it's not because they don't pay well, but rather because there are not enough skilled tradesmen. Keep in mind the average age of a journeyman electrician is now in the late 40s. Not everyone is cut out for college and there are always going to be people trying to exploit the system but the overall benefit of getting teenagers back into skilled trades programs far outweighs the risk someone "might" do something and put them in a dangerous situation.
i don't completely disagree with 14 year olds worker because working at Walmart or Mcdonalds is something anyone could do but roofing and construction or any physical labor like that should be left to adults
@@Taxevader-gk9ms I disagree. I think it's good to have them on construction sites and doing skill labor but obviously there are tasks and risk mitigation that needs to be taken. Wait I'm confused, so its OK to boycott US companies because of bad treatment of workers and underpayment, but at the same time it's OK to buy from Chinese companies which are doing the same thing? Because they're just a bit cheaper than their US counterparts and it's all about the consumer? Because that's what I'm taking away from your argument... Personally I boycott both US and Chinese manufactured goods because both have messed up political regimes intent on world domination, either by financial co-coercion or force.

Man you should check out how Harley is doing these days. Another good example of an American company that might be waking up a bit too late to reclaim it's former glory from Japanese competition. The grief on Gibson and Fender reminded me of this so I figured I'd leave a comment.
All the people that made hits and got famous using those expensive guitars would have all been flops and never made it if they were playing my cheap guitars even though they have nice necks and great sounding pickups. true or false
Regarding hardware (compressors, eqs, etc), they really sound that much cooler? TBH I have a hard time spotting a major tonal difference, such a difference that would make want to spend there (btw I only switched pickups once in a Harley Benton, and that because they were far better as mics than pickups). I would rather spend money in additional speakers or pro grade impulse responses. If I were a professional audio engineer, then I probably would, but as a home recording amateur, I think I rather pass.

@Typical.Anomaly I won't argue that it's not a strange place to share it. Of course it is, but it isn't sus. Some people just overshare. What I was commenting on is the fact that jiggity-james up there was disrespectful enough to just write off op's beliefs and propensity for nonsequiturs and then unironically state that all that matters is to "treat fellow human with respect." Sigh. Here's why I avoid buying Chinese stuff WHENEVER POSSIBLE: I support Taiwan as a free independent state and by buying Chinese you support Xi Jinpooh's efforts to change that state of affairs. I'd be more than happy to buy more Taiwanese gear - I had 2 Yamaha BB basses made in Taiwan and they were great, especially for the money. I have no problem buying Indonesian (I have one bass made in Indonesia, a Sire V7 5-string), Korean (I had 1 or 2 Korean basses) etc. - I don't mention Japan because their gear isn't cheap anymore (still cheaper than most American stuff - and usually made incomparably better). But Chinese? No. It's actually a matter of our safety to avoid sponsoring Pooh. Oh, and my phone is of a Korean brand, made in Vietnam ;-)
Wait so you are against kids having a job? :p In China if a kid dies, gets swept under a rug, in the U.S. if a kid dies, they have to pay and make it right. I don't understand these arguments tbh. I worked since I was 14 and it did me way more good than school ever did.... These are not apples to apples comparisons. China uses slave child labor, U.S. does not. I am not defending Gibson, by all means don't buy american guitars, just don't buy child slave labor guitars either. Korea does very well, so does Japan and other countries

China still makes crappy guitars? My Schecter Omen 6 built in late 2009 in China is probably the best feeling guitar I've ever played. I've had it since 2010 and I've played the hell out of it and upgraded most of the parts. Upgrades aside, it's the feel of the instrument. The neck is nice and the setup done by my luthier is perfect for me. I went to the store and played guitars that are thousands of dollars, and they just felt like guitars. Sure, they could be set up to play great as well, but I left the store feeling like I'm not missing anything. Keep coping.
I'm sure you were kidding, but comparing American labor to slave labor is pretty goofy, lol. If a person chooses not to buy a Chinese made guitar because of ethical reasons, it's a fair point. The American middle class is getting sold up the river, which is always how it works when a country's monetary policy is as reckless as ours is. Even with the current economy in the States, we are still in a much better situation than Chinese labor. Also, there are more than 2 guitar manufacturers in America, lol.
Doesnt sound like a joke when you realize that in many areas in america you will have to work your ass off not to end up homeless meanwhile the companies that you work for are dodging tax…
@@sirspongadoodle It is a joke. I'm sorry, but you can't compare this to slave labor. Yes, it sucks, and yes, we need to find a way out of this mess, but this is not comparable to slave labor. At least here, if you work the hours those people work in China, you'll make the money you need to afford your place. You won't have time to enjoy it, but you'll have it. This issue can be solved by fixing our monetary policy, because that is almost always the cause of these recessions. But no one wants to have that debate, lol.
If you want to hear how bad remasters have gotten? forget the Black album, get a hold of a 1980s Screaming for Vengeance or Defenders Of The Faith and compare that to the remasters....woof. I LOVE your Butthurt of the Week, especially you're readings of them...and I agree, our country needs better labor laws. And those critcis can STFU about Am. guitar supremacy...just look at how great the Japanese guitars were in the 70s..they were so good that Fender and other U.S. brands basically said "well, if we can't beat 'em...we'll buy them out lol!"
Apparently, Peavey uses the shitty southern Jail Labor to make their USA Gear. There are a few for-profit jails near their factory. ALso The older Megadeth Albums Remasters are fucking TERRIBLE!!! I can't even listen to them now and stick with the 80s versions
American's love to believe that "American Made" still carries the same weight as is did in the 50s-60s, but sadly, nowadays, their manufacture is only on par with many other parts of the world, while costing a whole lot more so that one can say it was Made In America. It's a farce and a dead ideal.
I've heard somewhere that remastering old records is done by artists, because than they can get royalties for those albums. It was something along the lines of record labels taking a solid cut of the sales. Only after few years the artist has the right to remaster an album, re-release it and then they get full cut of the sales.
I remember hearing that years ago (back when I thought rock star was a realistic career goal), but I never looked into it. Time to crank start the old googly.
manufacturing is moving to countries other than china, we are already seeing it, Mexican labor is now more affordable than Chinese labor. investors are moving out of china, the CCP has sent investors running for the door, the lockdowns, the paranoia of foreigners, real estate crisis, possible invasion of Taiwan all have a negative effect. lots of labor moving to Malaysia, Vietnam and even India. china simply has an advantage of infrastructure. china might not dominate but some other asian country will take its place.
This slave issue thing is a specific problem in China... There is no problem with guitar's from korea or indonesia ect... While I can admit that Gibson and Fender and other US brands go for the outrageous cash grabs, the cost of doing business, especially in the United States, does have to be considered when assessing the price tags on their items. Sure, they're in business to make a profit, and whag is considered reasonable vs greedy is up for debate I suppose. But keeping up with all of the building codes, environmental codes, employee benefits, etc, costs companies a ridiculous amount of money each year, at least from the manufacturing standpoint. My dad's music store was a major dealer for Peavey for decades and they eventually went almost entirely overseas because the cost of doing business in the US with all of the regulations was getting to be ridiculous, and they couldn't compete in the marketplace against similar products made overseas that were being sold for much cheaper.
I literally recommend to people looking for a Gibson to try to find one with a broken headstock since it's going to snap off anyway and letting someone else pay for the repair saves you a ton of money and now you've got a stronger LP.
Okay, the economic side... If they didn't keep the money on the top side, that would mean that more people would have money. yes, that's a good thing. but unfortunately, because of the slippery slope of supply and demand, the products get made too slow for what people can buy, so they have to raise the price. That's what's wrong with that
Conversely I never cared for heavy metal - other than Iron Maiden / Judas Priest / Led Zeppelin. I do love me some Rush though (the band not the pill popping now dead radio conservative. )
I just got an LTD Phoenix. Stainless frets, tonepros hardware, locking hardware, etc. I have some high end and vintage guitars, and it keeps up with them for sure. It’s not exactly a cheap guitar, but it’s not nearly at Gibson or PRS prices. Other than needing to file the nut down for my taste, it was ready to go out of the box. Hell, one of my main gigging guitars is a partscaster I put together for like $500. It’s insane the choices we have these days.
I never have and likely never will play electric guitar, much less metal. But I find myself running your vids because, well, I admit it, I find em entertaining.
About the child labour and under paying in the US: the common denominator in that whole shit show? The gop who voted 15 times against raising the minimum wage but 6 times for raising their own. Don't forget in november, 'muricans...
Minimum wages are idiotic. I have lived in Russia where it sort of works, and it’s only making everyone (except of a small group of people around Putin) poorer. What minimum wage is really doing to economy is setting the threshold after which people’s income becomes insufficient to live any life (let alone a decent one) higher and higher every time you increase that minimal wage thing. Prices rise, buying power falls, that’s how it is in reality.

Rush basically lost me after Permanent Waves, even though Moving Pictures and Signals DOES have some good songs, but after Signals, FORGET IT! I'll just listen up to Permanent Waves. I'm on the same page with ya, here. Also, I live in Chicago, and I live a couple of miles away from the old Zenith/Admiral factory. When they were around, it was a nice area of Chicago, and they kept the neighborhood economy going by employing the neighborhood locals. Ever since they went out of business, the neighborhood has become a very dangerous drug riddled, gang infested GHETTO! (THIS IS NOT AN OVER EXAGGERATION! I'VE LITERALLY SEEN THIS WITH MY OWN EYES!) Also, good point about guitar companies living on their legacy, and letting the quality of their product slip.
In 1957, a Fender Strat was $274.50. Using an inflation calculator, that's over $3k today. In 1970, they were $315, which today, is ~$2.5k. American Standards were $999.99 in 1999, which is ~$1.8k today. They have literally been getting cheaper. My dad was in bands in the 70s, and they were envious of the guys that could afford real Fenders and Gibsons. They've ALWAYS been a luxury product, and $1700 for am AmPro II Strat today is about as low as they have ever been. Now, is that still an insane price? Sure, and brands like Sire, Solar, and even the Squires/Epis are arguably a much better value, especially if you're buying new. It's just annoying to constantly hear people complaining that Fender and Gibson have lost sight of the customer when their brands were literally built on catering to the high end of the market.

I'm going to address, Remastering. That occurs near 11 minutes in here. I do acute trick. When remastering stuff. Originally from Analog Tape, origination. It lacks, about 10 dB of headroom. That got lopped off. Going to, disk, I.e., vinyl. And so? I will split the original stereo release. Into 2 separate stereo pair tracks. Then I take one track. And give it some, Upward Expansion. Working from the last 10 dB, at the top. And I add back in. That 10 dB, upward excursion. That had been lopped off.. And it sounds Amazing! So much more Punch and Vigor. It becomes Hugely Exciting! As I've introduced an additional 10 dB of, Upward Expansion. To replace what had been originally, lost. Just on the Analog Tape, alone. Where it's headroom stops. At approximately, only 15 dB. Above average operating, level. Yet the equipment delivering it to the analog tape recorders. Could produce in excess of, +24 up to approximately +32. All lost. From Analog Tape. And I add that back in. As part of my Remastering. Because it makes such a Huge Difference. Then I may also add a little, Downward Expansion. To lower the noise floor, yet, further. Picking up a few more dB of Dynamic Range. And I, Expand the entire thing, out. And few people. Know how to think this process through, technically. Not understanding. The processes. Of the older Analog Gear. And what those pieces were capable of delivering. To the tape recorders. Of the era. That lopped off the top 10+ dB of headroom. Called Saturation. As the analog tape cannot accept any further, volumetric excursions. And it just stops responding. And I add that back in. And you hear it more like it came out of the Audio Console, Directly. Without the sludge of Analog Tape. And so I can take this, through. And come up with a unique, Process. Of, Remastering. And another process I developed. To recoup. The last upper octave lost. From low bit rate, 128 kb per second, MP3, files. Where everything between 15 kHz and 20 kHz, gets lopped off. And when trying to recover those. I take the last upper octave. Between 10 and 15 kHz. I double, the frequency of that. And add it back in. Thus! Recovering the top octave that had been lost due to low bit rate MP3 encoding. Bring it back as a DOT WAVE, file. And to deal with some of the artifacting? I might also add in. Some algorithmic, stereo ambience. To help mask the MP3, artifacting. And it helps. And gives it a nice sheen. That was lost. And that's how I reprocess, MP3 archival files. It just takes a bit of finessing. To bring them back to something more listenable rather than objectionable. From artifacting. And the sheen helps to mask the underwater gurgling artifacting. This is called Recovery & Restoration. Not just, Archiving. For a much better listening experience. There is also little problem with, Absolute Positive Speaker Polarity. That no one. And I mean, no one. (Except for one single individual and me). Has noticed. In the last 56, to, the past 76 years. For 99% of you all. Or 99% of, y'all. Have never noticed yet. And that one individual? I forget his first name? His last name was, Martini. And the child of, Italian Immigrants. Later was known as, James B. Lansing. And opened up a speaker manufacturing company in Los Angeles called, JBL. And then there was me. In, 1978 at 22. When I was like, hmmm? Why are my JBL Speakers. Out of phase. With all other speaker manufacturers, speakers? What the hell is going on here? I wondered? Until I figured it out! Eureka! Oh my God! Holy smokes! I think I need another, smoke. To Weed, through this process. Oh my God! What the hell? So between 1% and 10% of you. Have JBL Speakers. That you are good to go. Just the way you are. Don't change anything. You are fine. But everybody else? NOT FINE! So all you folks need to do. With other manufacturers, speakers. To get them into Positive Absolute Polarity. It is. To reverse. The 2 connections. To both. Your left and right channel, speakers. This can only be done at the connection, to the speakers. That's where we establish Absolute Polarity. Of our Speaker Systems. And when yours are backwards. As they all are. You must invert, the connections. On both of your speakers. And Voilà! You will now be hearing your speakers. The way God intended for RUclips. And by the way I'm an atheist. So it's really the way, Mozart. Intended you to hear it. Because he didn't have any electronic anything. But he knew. How sound propagated within a building. And the sound goes Up. Before it Blooms, Outward. Toward the audience. And your speakers are not doing that. They are actually, sucking inward. Yes they are. And everybody thinks they are not. And refused to listen to it, this way. Because that would be wrong. In their puny confused little craniums. As it flies in the face. Of their fraudulent, College Degree. Yes it does. They all get this fucking thing wrong! They are morons! And for those of you with Active Powered Speakers? You're going to have to be good with a Phillips head screwdriver and a soldering iron. You will remove both the tweeters and the woofers from the box. You will reverse, the spade lugs. On the tweeter. And on the woofer, both. Then you will plug the speakers back in. And screw them only snuggly. Back into the box. No heavy-handed, Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator Death Groups.. You will, stress bend and warp the frame, of the speaker. Do not do that. Only snuggly. You are not to prove your strength nor masculinity. Screwing the speakers back into the box. And then take another listen. Because the electrical engineers and the acoustic engineers. Always get this wrong. They get it backwards. They have a flawed test they use. Which they get backwards. It's beyond stupid. Beyond moronic. They are in the ether of cultist behavior. Because if they all do it wrong. Then it must be right! Yeah no. It is not. So try it for yourselves. You've got absolutely nothing to lose. And Everything to Gain. Hey Glenn, new subscriber here. Been playing guitar for about 20 years, started when I was 14, but haven't really played seriously for over 10. I was amused with the video ripping the speakers out of the Behringer cab. My first amp was a used Behringer Vintager AC112, and I loved that thing! I thought it sounded great. But, then again, that was 20 years ago and what the fuck did I know?🤣 It made Black Sabbath and Children Of Bodom sounds, so that's all that really mattered to a mid-teen just discovering the greatness that is Randy Rhoads and Alexi Laiho.🤘🏻 Now I have a Peavy Vypyr II, and I love it! Only downside is that it is So fucking loud I can't even play it in my apartment on any volume past "1"🤣 Love the content, keep up the good work, brother!🤘🏻🤘🏻
You really can be a downer to guitar players who like Gibson. I've been playing Gibson v's since I bought my first one in '85. Yes the prices have exploded. My first black designer series cost 395 bucks with the case. My next one a 79 tobacco. It was 300. With case. The next one was a black 85 without pickups. 100 bucks. Minimum wage was 3.25 hr. So it was expensive for a kid working summers. But I really love my Gibson guitars. I get the point that you're pushing BUT common man you're obsessed with hating gibson. Please get some help. Lol. Just saying.
Thank you for bringing competition argument here, Glenn. This is exactly why greed and hubris by well-established brands such as Gibson should be punished. Gibson isn't even the worst right there. Martin sells (get this) A STANDARD MODEL that costs $9600. One more time: a standard, production line, non-custom shop guitar, that costs 9600 buckaroos. If that is not hubris, I don't know what is. Imagine how a one-of-a-kind instrument made by your local luthier can look and sound like for $9600... In 40 years from now everyone will be kicking Chinese manufacturers in the butt for ridiculously high prices they charge for their subpar instruments compared to [insert any other country of origin right here]. A circle of life. But today, in 2024, Chinese manufacturers do a stellar job at showing Gibson and the likes that you can't survive on the headstock logo alone while everyone in the world is suffering from neverending recession.
I would like to add that FENDER has destroyed JACKSON and Charvel. Yeah I know Jackson still has some of the classic crew members around.. what i am getting at is a Soloist use to be an affordable PRODUCTION model and now they are asking way too much $$$$ these days. Same $ can get you a really killer custom made if you really search. Buy a WAYNE Guitar if you want a TRUE Charvel!
I have a made in Indonesia LTD EC-256 that I bought for $259 in 2015. I have some more expensive guitars but the LTD has been my #1 for 8 years. Plays great and stays in tune way better than the Made in USA “authentic” guitar I sold 15 years ago. A lot of people complain about them but stock humbuckers have lots of “clarity” and “punch”. And by that I mean they sound exactly the same as every other guitar through my cab loaded with eminence private jack speakers.
I got a pretty blue SG, leo " whatever " from Amazon 129$US. It kicked ass from the box, but with all the $ i saved i upgraded it. 40$ locking tuners and emg57/66 set. All from Amazon. So for less than 500$ I made a guitar that just 100% dominates any American made Gibson SG
I really like my American Gibsons and Fender. There are other good guitars. I really like my Yamaha and love my Ibanez bass. I’ve splurged on an American PRS and Music man, which were FAR more expensive than Gibson and Fender. You know what? They plain sucked. Gibson and Fender make much better guitars. Those companies should be the bad examples to use. The Music Man especially. It showed up not with completely dead piezo system, and after sending it back for service, MM wouldn’t honor the warranty even though they acknowledged they sent me a lemon. Anyways… No company has replicated that 1,000lbs baseball bat feel of a Les Paul, and nobody has a decent chunky neck telecaster except fender and G&L. And it’s tough to find a less expensive, readily available alternative. I like chunky, clunky, and heavy. All these alternatives, though they have much better QC, are too light, too “ergonomic”, and it just doesn’t feel right. To be fair, that’s the style now, and that’s what I started with, but not what I really want. I’m kind of stuck with Fender and Gibson for now, but I welcome alternatives. It’d be nice to buy a new guitar without filling bankruptcy.
Great video as always Glen. Hey as far as the Chinese versus American, the quality is on par. You got to remember wages in China are probably wayyyyyyyyyyyy less! That's really the main problem is that we know the economy here is bad and so they justify it by raising wages thereby making everything cost more. There really is no end in sight!!!😮 And as far as capitalism it really isn't that anymore It's more like socialism or franticism. People are just playing scared Now if you're cruising around in your yacht and golfing everyday then it probably doesn't apply to you. All right just my 2 sense!!!!!! Have a great day. Still looking for that West Creek video they have an awesome flying V You should check out for 250 bucks!!!!!!✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
whinge all you want about gibson & fender - but eod they hold their value (generally speaking.) and that's more than can be said for just about any other mass market mfgr. electronics, QC, innovative shapes, hardware, fit & finish, etc are all subjective. give me a US made LP/STRAT/SG/TELE every time 🤘🎸
Isn’t it strange that people who can’t be bothered to play without dropping or ploughing their guitars into solid objects, always blame the manufacturer when they knock them off the stand and break them 😂 THAT’S THE JOKE!!… I’ve owned Gibsons for 50 years without snapping off a headstock, and although they are too expensive now, comparing one to an Epiphone is still ludicrous, because no matter how good Epi have become since the rubbish they made in the ‘70s - ‘90s they still sound different… Even if it isn’t obvious 90% of the time when you’re dealing with dirt…
Gear, gear, gear. Is that what you've become Glenn? A $2200 (US) guitar in Australia is a $4000 (Aus) guitar. And to get other top line guitars (not the BIG names) you are still paying bucket loads. With most folk, income is already marked for essential bills as apposed to overpriced guitars. I'm lucky, I bought my guitars when I could afford them and have a variety (including a Fender Stratocaster from '82 bought in '84. No wonder young folk are feeling increasingly stressed when they are told they have to have this and this because of this and this and without it they are just not in the league. Please do a video about how large (music equipment manufacturing) companies are making overpriced gear in China but selling for big bucks.
Glenn - absolutely nailed it here dude. For anyone reading - please support union labour when you can, everyone deserves a fair wage. Ultimately it will benefit us all.
I've been in recruiting, staffing, and HR for over two decades now in the US, and Glenn is spot on. If you want to see the true face of entitlement in the US, you don't go to an unemployment or welfare office, you go to a boardroom. Employers, who KNOW the median wage for a given job in their area, will routinely try to undercut it but at least 10% to 30%, and often more, and then complain that, "nobody wants to work."
If you tried that with ANY other input into a business, you would be laughed out of the room, and be out of business very soon. If, for example, you needed steel but couldn't buy any, because reasons, and then gave a speech about how steel manufacturers were lazy and didn't want to make bar and coil anymore, everyone would know you were full of shit and fucking nuts. The FIRST question you would be asked is, "what did you offer to PAY for that steel?"
For some reason, when it comes to labor, employers think different laws of economics apply and that employees are solely to blame when employers offer them shit wages, and they have the wherewithal and presence of mind to turn down those offers.

Now imagine paying half or less than that much for an identical copy off the same CNC machine. . . and it says "Gibson" on it. . . #Chibson.
Hey Glenn. Your thumbnail for this video made me sad. I broke the headstock on my LP in 1999. I was 19 and it was a month before our band was to go into the studio. Luckily it got fixed literally the day before we tracked but it required an 800 mile round trip drive to get it.

Epiphone are great but fuck, they are getting expensive!
Yeah, they really are!
My first guitar was a Epiphone Les Paul special ii. I loved that thing. A "friend" of mine offered to upgrade the pickups and do some tweaking to it for a small fee. He kept that guitar and disappeared.

A Remaster video would be sweet! They've gotten my money a few times and I don't really know why.
I always thought of those like, "Oh the band needs money? I like them enough I suppose."
People sometimes calls a remix a remaster and that bothers me
Remixing includes changing the actual mix whle hte master keeps original mix 100 the same as original
That can be remastered later.

the issue with the competition is that China pays their workers in the factories $5 a day, so there's no way for an american company to compete unless they also start paying their workers $5 a day
this is why it's hard for any country to directly compete with china. Not to mention china gets subsidized shipping rates so there's no chance an american company can compete without committing human rights violations lol
a Mcdonalds worker makes $10-15 an hour.
Loving the formats 😮 Gorgeous!
That bit about American child and slave labor hit the nail on the head
The Tories are trying to change the laws here and do the same. 😑😞
well not really and it's dishonest to use an outlier example to compare with a persistent problem of forced labor in a country that by far has a one of the worst human rights records in the world. Most of my team are immigrants from Africa and the Middle East, they laugh at these complaints and middle class America could stand to learn a lot from them
Additionally the change in the labor law's he's talking about are actually relating to traditional trades like construction.
Putting them up on a roof, probably not a great idea at 14, but 16 or 17 I dont see a problem. I would absolutely require a fall arrest harness though.

Hey Glenn, Could you check out the Mr. Scary Mod? Id love to hear your opinion on this thing.

Sigh.

In most cases, all they do is to compress it a little more and raise the volume...
Isn’t that re-recording? Which is what Taylor Swift is doing?
@@brymills it think it also covers remastering as well. But hey, I'm just a guy in the internet, I might be wrong 🤷🏼♂️
manufacturing is moving to countries other than china, we are already seeing it, Mexican labor is now more affordable than Chinese labor. investors are moving out of china, the CCP has sent investors running for the door, the lockdowns, the paranoia of foreigners, real estate crisis, possible invasion of Taiwan all have a negative effect. lots of labor moving to Malaysia, Vietnam and even India. china simply has an advantage of infrastructure. china might not dominate but some other asian country will take its place.

Had mine since '94 still haven't broken it. Knock on wood.
Okay, the economic side... If they didn't keep the money on the top side, that would mean that more people would have money. yes, that's a good thing. but unfortunately, because of the slippery slope of supply and demand, the products get made too slow for what people can buy, so they have to raise the price. That's what's wrong with that
I'm not a metalhead but this remains of of my favourite music production channels out there. Chess, Glen!
Also remember, if you own almost any smartphone, the raw materials are HIGHLY likely to be dug up by children amongst other individuals

Still looking for that West Creek video they have an awesome flying V You should check out for 250 bucks!!!!!!✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
whinge all you want about gibson & fender - but eod they hold their value (generally speaking.) and that's more than can be said for just about any other mass market mfgr. electronics, QC, innovative shapes, hardware, fit & finish, etc are all subjective. give
me a US made LP/STRAT/SG/TELE every time 🤘🎸
Isn’t it strange that people who can’t be bothered to play without dropping or ploughing their guitars into solid objects, always blame the manufacturer when they knock them off the stand and break them 😂 THAT’S THE JOKE!!… I’ve owned Gibsons for 50 years without snapping off a headstock, and although they are too expensive now, comparing one to an Epiphone is still ludicrous, because no matter how good Epi have become since the rubbish they made in the ‘70s - ‘90s they still sound different… Even if it isn’t obvious 90% of the time when you’re dealing with dirt…
American guitars? like schecter? my sunset 6 is stupid amazing quality for 900 bucks!
