Hi Lisa, I cannot find the link in your description for "How to White Wash Cabinets". Can you please link? Thank you!
@@MichelleGuthrieWithJesus Hi Michelle... you can Google whitewash cabinets or here's one I looked up for you. www.bhg.com/kitchen/cabinets/makeovers/stain-wood-cabinets/? I hope this helps! - Lisa
Lisa Holt Design looks great..
Lisa, Lisa, Lisa! Thank you for having the guts to call out open shelving for what it really is- an unkempt, impractical dust magnet. Sure it looks slick, but a kitchen needs to be more than just a pretty display. It needs to be a practical, efficient work space that also happens to be beautiful. Brava, Lisa! 👏
WooHoo!!Thank you so much for your kind comment and thanks for being a part of my channel!!
My mom had some decent decorating Style, but she never prioritized practicality. She was constantly dusting ornaments that were on shelves with no glass doors and almost all her furniture required coasters. It was a pain.
I think Pioneer Log Homes are some of the most beautiful structures on the planet... But let's get real, a log home is a little more work!
Yup, talk about needing to dust all the time! :(
Agreed! When I had to pick a kitchen they would show me open shelvings and I'd be like "I said I want practical" XD
Deborah Ponder Mance yes!!! Dust AND cooking grease build up...its real and happens...
I like how you immediately get to the point! Subscribed
Yes! Thanks 😊
I’m impatient with RUclips videos, so I totally agree! Perfect videos!
ruclips.net/video/ynBHqWoFgTs/видео.html
Indeed! I love that Lisa is a meat & potatoes kind of gal while still being fun. I've unsubscribed from more than a couple of influencers for being verbose.
😭😭😭😭 nipping that open shelving in the bud cos I'm not that organized lol
I agree Sisi! I’m not either, so I personally never do open shelves for myself! Thanks for watching and commenting!🙂
M.
U😅
No biggie, I'm Inot a very organized gal but I love my oen shelving kitchen!! in a way it make me more organized than what i used to. WORTH IT!
Thank you for the honesty on the open shelves,
Always! Thanks so much for watching and being a part of my channel, there’s lot more fun stuff coming!
I was considering open shelf but your honest review gave me a very good lesson. Thanks for these videos.
If you cook, items on open shelves will get greasy even if you just sauté. I’m amazed at what happens to items on my counters.
Amen. I have no desire to dust every item in my kitchen.
Maggie B - so true! I keep waffling between getting an air fryer to make perfect steaks versus decluttering my kitchen appliances. Your comment about aerosolized cooking grease getting on kitchen cabinets is pushing me toward the “yes, get one” side again!
More than one island feels like a laboratory. I’ll stick to one😆
LOL Ruth! 🤣🤣🙌🏻 I totally feel you - feel free to stick to one if that's more your style! 😁💙 Thanks for watching! 😘
I like the way you put that and I could not agree more.
Excellent way to put it! Definitely seems like a kitchen (or kitchen owner) that’s trying too hard.
My kitchen is so small, that I don’t even have room for one island, let alone two. This is def a rich people only segment.
Greasy dust is my biggest peeve which makes me so glad I'm on the same page as you are regarding open shelves. Pretty is great as long as I don't have to wash everything weekly.
AMEN!! I couldn't agree more, thanks so much for watching!
Talk about greasy dust---cabinets that have an open space at the top are the worst! I got so tired of climbing up onto the counter to scrub them, I finally put wax paper up there. Now I can just change out the wax paper. Whew. I love cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling. They make the kitchen look bigger, you don't get the greasy dust layer on top of them, and they give you extra storage space. I want them so bad lol.

@@JamieM470 why haven’t I thought of this before?!? Genius
I would forget the coloured appliances and the black surfaces. They will date so quickly and they are not appealing to everyone.
I totally agree with you... it’s definitely a trend, but not one I would recommend to a client! Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Literally nothing is appealing to everyone. Literally.
It depends on the house. I agree that it isn't a good idea in the average McMansion, but my daughter is a designer and she put black cabinets (dark charcoal like most cabinets in the photos, not black as in absence of all color) in her city loft (once a printing shop) and they look stunning. Her kitchen is a small L shape, integrated appliances with an island and she did a waterfall edge on her quartz countertops. The rest of the space is so light and airy (light floors, light countertops (just like Lisa advises) with soaring open ceilings with exposed pipes, brick walls, a whole wall of soaring windows, that the black really anchors the space. She also painted her long hallway black ( like the cabinets) on one side and it just looks great with the black kitchen. 99% of the time it is a bad idea, I agree but everything is going out of style eventually- everything .
ruclips.net/video/ynBHqWoFgTs/видео.html
The only colored appliance I can afford is an oven toaster.
Juan Plus - people have groaned over inheriting harvest gold and avocado green appliances and it will happen again after this trend is out of date, too! A colored toaster is at the perfect price point for a trend unless you know you will love it forever, 😁
Lord it over the rest of us, Mr. Moneybags
I think the real issue is that for kitchens that have drab or neutral colors, it's nice to have some colors that pop a bit. They can be on something small like the toaster, or even in a vase or on towels.
ruclips.net/video/ynBHqWoFgTs/видео.html
This is such a well done video. My boyfriend needed some guidance and was feeling a little down and overwhelmed about designing his kitchen. Within the first 23 seconds he jumped up like it was a football game like “yea that’s what I’m talking about.” Such great guidance. You set such great expectations for people going through the design experience about cleaning and staging. Thanks a thousand times. We’re watching it for the second time.
YAY, Sheika!!! That makes me so happy to hear it when I can win over the SO with some logic, and then provide some useful info! That's what the DezignClub is going to be about as well!
Lisa would you do a virtual consultation for a kitchen project?
I'm not a fan of open shelves!
I just imagine the extra chores of dusting and dish washing.
I do love the look of cabinets going all the way up to the ceiling.
I love glass door cabinets that are backlit!
I have 1 white shelves that holds my plates, cups, bowls, and blender. We use these dishes everyday, so i only wipe the shelves once in a while, most of the time, the shelves are empty by the end of the day, they re all in the dishwasher. They do make my life easy and for my kids n hubby too.
I actually have 2 shelves, idk why i wrote one lol
One or two shelves I can see but so glad Lisa called out how hard they are to keep looking nice. I could never ... 😊
Ripped out my upper cabinets a few years ago. Best thing I ever did. Looks amazing!!
Thanks for sharing Sandy!! And thanks for joining my channel!
I despise open shelving. I think it knocks the value of a home down. There was a house for sale recently here that never sold because of open shelves.
Building a new house and want to sure that it is timeless if that is even possible. Looking forward to hearing your ideas.
Hi Corrina. Houses have been my passion since I can remember. I was doing house plans with plastercine at 8 years of age and have built houses and reformed many. If you need advice just ask me. Regarding your question. Timeless to me means buying only what you really love, that way you will love it forever. Another important fact is NEVER to follow fashions. What's fashionable now,in no time will be out of date. Hugs from an Italian.
Hi Corrina!
Timeless is engaging classic elements in ways that deliver an experience that is personal to you. I agree with Angela, buy things that you know you will still love in 10 years and invest more in your upholstered items because those things are utilized everyday. Don't necessarily follow a trend unless it is in a place where you feel you can exchange it when you tire the choice. Be sure to take progress photos and send them to hello@lisaholt.com so we can all share! Make sure you've dropped your email so you are a member of the club, you will really love it for help with your project!

I feel like "Stone-looking laminate countertop as a backsplash" is the message I'm reading once it's translated into middle class.
Love your energy in this video :) Of course, the professional designer vids are great but this gives me the cool-aunt-without-kids-everyone-wants-to-have-as-a-mum vibe
Hey TD! Haha! LUV that! Wish my niece and nephew thought like that! ;);) I’m so glad you’re joining us, there’s LOTS more coming!
I've been designing kitchens and baths since the Carter administration and always seem to find a glaring flaw or two with the various vloging kitchen guru's I stumble across on the web. Until now.
I currently do free lance consulting on kitchen design and have to say I found your video accurate, informative, and fun! You are a hoot, and I can only add "...yeah, what she said..." to your trends evaluation. It's real world, what we are in fact seeing in the field. Kudos!
Yay!! So glad you enjoy it! Thanks for joining my channel!

I'm going to redo my own kitchen for a change (always working in other people's homes) and I'm going to throw caution to the wind, forget the rules and going Boho on colour: Lavender on cabinets, dark brown with speckles on the counter tops, Lemon on my fridges. Oh happy days! I can't wait! Walls will be white on three sides, blackboard paint on the one so that I can draw on it, write messages and let grandkids draw me pictures when they want. Window decor will be a beaded curtain. No rules!
Love your Style! Thanks so much for watching and being a part of my channel! CAn't wait to see the pics, sounds rather FAB....
Lol, about the open kitchen shelves. I adore them. I grew up religiously watching Martha Stewart on PBS and she had open shelving in many of her kitchens and sets. I knew I wanted open shelving when I "grew up.". I've had open shelving in two kitchens for the past 10 years. I cook, bake, prepare food from scratch on a daily basis and I am still very much in love with my open shelves. I think the reports of all the possible ill effects of open shelving are greatly exaggerated. I have all white dishes so everything matches and looks great with minimal effort. The dishes are used on a daily basis so they dont sit and collect dust. Serving pieces that dont get used daily are just occasionally wiped down. The shelves are occasionally wiped down. Of course it's not for everyone, but it's definitely doable.
I totally agree! I had them in my previous home and adored them. Very easy to care for.
I like the light wood cabinets! So over the all white kitchens that everyone has.
ruclips.net/video/ynBHqWoFgTs/видео.html
I am so ocd that is why I would never get open shelving. Even when clean, they would make me craaazyyyy😅
Haha I get that Cassie!! Definitely a preference!!! 🤣🤣
They look awful even when they're clean. In normal life, they will look like the ninth circle of Hell.
I just don't like marble. It's too busy. Nor do I like busy granite. I'm building a kitchen right now, and I'm going to tile the backsplash! Try not to scream too loudly!
Haha! I LUV a good tile backsplash as well, there’s sooooo many great options out there! And if you don’t like marble, take a look at some of the quartz from Ceasarstone, they have a blizzard white that’s lovely and completely simple..🙁be sure and send the pics to hello@ lisaholt.com, we’d love to share with the club!
How about a glass back splash? Have they made an appearance in the US? They've been popular in OZ kitchens for a few years. So easy to care for & come in a great range of colours & finishes.
You’re so refreshing - you get us excited about trends but also calm us down with some reality checks ✌️🙂 Heart u 🙋🏻♀️
AWW wow thank you!! 😍😊💕

Yes!
I think there's a place for open shelving - MUCH more manageable if you just do 1 or 2 shelving sets open with more typical cabinetry through the rest of the kitchen - THEN you only stack pretty things, and easily organizable things on the open shelves - single color plates, or clear glassware are good options. Low-use items like cake stands, large bowls or serverware can also work well and not be so much work to maintain.
I prefer white kitchen cabinet. They never go out of style.
White cabinets are so overplayed. Everyone has them these days.
bnb0510 they're classic for a reason. When you take a look at kitchens that look outdated they always have wood cabinets. I'd rather have nice white cabinets and change things up in other ways to freshen up the look.
@@bendietrees wasn’t really referring to “wood” cabinetry. There’s many of colors out there these days. Variations of grey, black, natural wood, etc... To each is own. White is classic, I agree. But EVERYONE has been doing white kitchens for the past 5-7 years. I just prefer to be different.
@@bendietrees Any wood kitchen can be turned into a white kitchen very easily, but white paint (even professionally sprayed) doesn't always make much of a difference in updating the cabinets, because there are dated white kitchen cabinets out there too. Molding styles change and so do cabinet styles and layout style change. I pulled out an all wood custom kitchen when we moved to our new house because of the dated peninsula raised bar layout I despised.
@@bnb0510 I couldn't do white for that very reason. We had ours painted a light blue green BM Woodlawn blue. They are so pretty. If I want to go back to wood there is hard maple under all that paint or I could reface them. If I want them white that would be even easier. I doubt I will ever go with white though. It is just so overdone. My mother said, "You are doing white right?" I told her blue and she said, "Ewww. Blooooo,ew I would tell that designer I cannot do blue." Now she loves it and can't imagine wanting white.
Over the moon that l found you. Your videos are brilliant, your energy is inspiring. Have to agree with you, kitchen cupboards must go up to the ceilings. Thank you for sharing 💐.
Woohoo!!!🙌 Welcome to the channel!! 🥂 🎉
Lisa, Lisa, Lisa You are the gift that keeps on giving. I had no idea a brass hood like that was available! Always great resources shared. You are so generous with your talent and expertise. ❤️👏🏻⭐️
Barbara! So glad you enjoyed it! We'll chat more when I get back next week! ;)
Lisa Holt Design hope you enjoy your time away !
I’m a messy cooker and oil will splash everywhere when I pan fry or stir fry. But I love the idea of using same stone for backsplash. Is it still a good idea or should I go with something else easier to maintain? Thanks.
Great question Bodi! Stone is actually quite easy to maintain, and you don't have any grout lines that can permanently grab grease and oil. Of all the stones, Marble is the softest so I would stay away from that countertops and backsplashes, but you could do a quartz version look alike that would be very stain resistant.
@@LisaHoltDesign Thank you so much, Lisa!
Bodi Java - I still have an unsealed tumbled travertine backsplash from 2001 - it looks great because I leaned a trio of mirrors against it behind the stove to catch the splatters. They are a lot easier to clean, also - I can easily set them flat to wipe them off with better body ergonomics than bending and reaching a vertical surface while trying to see through my progressive lenses! They also create a focal point behind the stove.
@@bitrudder3792 What a brilliant idea L.C.H! Mirrors are so beautiful for decor, it's function and aesthetics. Thanks for sharing!
Yep. Agree with you100%. Open shelves = nowhere to hide.
I am too lazy for this.
Haha! So true! Thanks for watching!
I have never allowed myself to do open shelving because I know myself well enough to know that I will never be able to keep up with them... I don’t even let myself have clear cabinet doors.
Good for you Jennifer! Mine are soooo messy! Never for my home 🙂
Lisa, I love cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. They are beautiful. What do we do if we have a high angled ceiling?
HI Carolyn! Such a great question, and very common. What you'll do is take the cabinets up to your plate line, and then make sure you have LED up lighting going above.
Lisa Holt Design , what is a “plate line”? 🤔🤷♀️ Btw, I LOVE your videos!
@@ndgrandma1818 basically where the angled ceiling meets with the wall.

Woohoo! Thanks for your kind comment and for joining my channel!
Lisa! What do I do with the cabinets with an angled ceiling? ☹️ I will be renovating my kitchen soon and don’t know what to do!
Also are ceiling lights ok for angled ceilings? I heard it gets too hot and the lighting is not great. I would love your input!
Jess!! 💕👏🏻 Sorry I'm just getting to this now! 😂 I've been a little behind!! My advice is to paint the uppers the color of the wall and add lighting above it!! 🌟🌟 You can totally do ceiling lights on an angled ceiling - it'll look great!!! 💚🤩
Can/do you recommend the waterproof vinyl flooring, that looks like natural material like wood? I have 4 dogs and 2 large parrots and need to have a floor that is easy to care for and waterproof.
I don't know if the resident designer approves, however, my
.02 is that "luxury vinyl" would be your best friend. I did much research re dogs and wood floors, and the consensus is that they scratch wood floors terribly, unless you're that person who takes wonderful care of their dogs nail (sadly, not me). I have my eyes on Cortec flooring, it's not inexpensive, but I like how their floors are designed, and they look great.
With dogs and pets I’d recommend going either with porcelain tiles that lay out like wood planks, or the LVT. Both are waaaay more stain and scratch resistant than EW. Hope this helps! 👍🏻🙌🏼
@@LisaHoltDesign what about SPC - I hear that is 100% waterproof and indestructible according to internet. But is is a floating floor and not sure I would like the sound -feel like I an in a nursing home??? IDK. Is it possible to find a mostly matching SPC /LVT or wood tile that matches with a real wood counterpart floor? That way I could put the wood look in the kitchen and laundry but not in the master and dining and study???
@@LisaHoltDesign sorry what is EW?
@@elizabethhannah6836 Thanks, I will look into it!
Open shelfing is out. To dirty to much dust, just not practical out the window.

I agree so much with open shelves and the black kitchen. I do not like them at all. I am pretty orderly but I know, that ordering things take time! And therefore, because I know it, I am not a friend of open shelves.
Black colour makes feel depressed. That’s all.
How about pet friendly decorating. Light floors in a kitchen or home with dogs

Ok Lisa we have some of the same taste, the kitchen I want to replicate is the one you featured when you where talking about refinishing with white wash but I don’t think these were whitewashed. They were stained blond or natural and had a linen island. Bar stools have the same seats as color of cabinets. I would love to know if that was alder wood or rift cut white oak and what finsh they used. Any help you could give me would be appreciated...love love love you; It was the 6 kitchen featured in your wood cabinets series.......right before or after the words white wash......but I don’t think these were white washed..... your opinion please?

@@SisiYemmieTV Lol! Nothing wrong with that at all. Lol!
I’m going modern farm house after having stone as a backsplash that’s been there 35 years 😂 not a good look old either and a bitch to change up when you just want new tiles as a splash back
black kitchens? no way! i have black granite countertops and they are so hard to keep clean. i cant imagine how hard it would be to keep black cabinets clean from grease. forget it.
I love some of these ideas!
1. I am a big fan of light and airy cabinets, the best kitchen I ever had was natural maple and, BONUS, even though they were standard size, they went up to the ceiling because the soffit for the air conditioning was above it so the ceiling was slightly dropped in that area. NO dusting above the cabinets, and NO need to add decorative detail up there that served no other purpose.
2. The soft white bull nose Laminate counters in that lovely light maple kitchen were paired with a white tile backsplash. (apparently I was organic modern long before organic modern became a thing). How much more awesome would that kitchen have been with a solid surface soft soft white counters that ran up the backsplash! Seamless! No grout! The same fresh look with a fraction of the upkeep effort and great longevity.
3. I absolutely agree about lighting in all the right places. I wish I had anticipated that with our current house… A neighbor had asked the builder to add a strip of molding at the bottom edge of the kitchen cabinets so she could put some lighting underneath where the hardware would not be visible, and of course a properly placed outlet/wiring. We also have five glass fronted cabinets around the kitchen and I wish I had thought ahead to like those up. (I was just excited at getting a kitchen that had so much storage as well as a little architectural flair!)
4. I love the island idea, having two of them and creating a little dining space between them.
5. Absolutely agree with the need to keep open shelving beautiful. And that glass doors make the whole dusting thing a lot easier. I like one of the commenters points… Just have one shelf that you use a lot and can easily keep tidy and wiped down.
5. I think having a touch of black in every room is really smart because so much of our technology It’s going to be black so it’s going to show up anyway. Why not make it intentional and coordinated?

HAHA! 🤣🤣😛😛
Never wanted an open shelf situation. I knew it’d be a task to maintain.
No to black in a working room. Way too much unnecessary expense in getting it lit with no guarantee I can justify the expense over the long haul by continuing to like it.
We have old wood cabinets from the 80's. What should i use to paint them to get the lighter look? I love your videos btw!
Hey there! You will want to Google this, I do know that it requires a little sanding and some primer to get a topcoat to stay on and be smooth. But it’s a great look I’ve done it tons of times with clients be sure and send pictures to hello and Lisaholt.com of the before and after ‘s!🙌🏻🥰
I'm with you on skipping open shelving. The dust bunnies alone aren't worth it, and they will trend out for that reason, no matter how sweet you get them looking. The thought of how much time would be spent cleaning things has my head swimming!
You have a great personality! I would absolutely love to do your hair, I'm sitting here designing it because of your terrific face shape, skin tone and glasses.
I'm going to have to watch again for the cabinets Lol

Lisa has great hair and I love her hairstyle.
"Like those stupid TVs above the Fireplace" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! I would love a video of home office as we’re all working from home. I don’t have a dining table so I made my dining room my office: lots of light, bud windows and a big open space. Thank you :)
Great request! I'll add it to the list of videos to come! Be sure to send your email
to www.lisaholtdesign.com, and I’ll add you to my Design Club list we’re launching soon, where we’ll livestream Q&A’s, do deep dives, feature B&A’s and give lots of pro tips all about design, you’ll LUV it
Lisa, Lisa, Lisa! 👏
Looking forward to the video, as my son & DIL will be remodeling the kitchen of their 1918 American Four Square in the next 12 months. On that subject, could I request you do a video featuring resources for design ideas for various styles of houses? My own mid-mod kitchen style (which I adore) wouldn’t work at all in their 1918 home. They need updating, keeping the essence of their home, while still incorporating modern conveniences & trends. Thanks!
Hey Julie, what a fun project! ;) for sure get onto the Club list, as I'll be doing a bunch of live Q&A's, and this is a perfect question to bring up, just to to lisaholtdesign.com, and you'll be in the loop on the dates! talk to you soon! ;)
I’d recommend you check the yt channel “farmhouse vernacular” for inspiration for the project! The host Paige is redoing her 1905 farmhouse so that it is period sympathetic. Would probably have some good ideas for you dil home
Id rather use a step to get to the kitchen cupboard once in while then regularly clean the dust and dirt off of cupboards that don't go all the way
I have been saying forever... the cabinets need to go to the ceiling!!!
Yeah me too. I think that for those that don't have cabinets to the ceiling, we should set up an indoor drip system and a bunch of houseplants.
ruclips.net/video/ynBHqWoFgTs/видео.html
I’m ceiling cupboard club!!! I have to use a chair to reach but you are right, just put special display stuff in them 👍 my kitchen fitter told me to do it, said it’s a dust trap to have cupboards low down
You are my favorite discovery of 2020! Thank you for your incredible content!
HI Annie, thats the best thing I've heard this year! WooHoo!! Thanks for your kind comment and thank you for joining my channel!!
I would definitely second that! So fun to find Lisa Holt in my 2020 adventures 😁. I finished remodeling our home from a California 1980-90’s house to what I call Farmhouse with a little bling. Bling meaning my chandeliers. Kept it pretty simple and normally I would have done all most all walls with shiplap. But I was thinking resell and I know a lot of California buyers at the time we’re not into Farmhouse style so I did accent areas like in the area where the 80’s-90’s trend was those high open drywall shelves....ya know the ones, dust collectors but you can’t get to it?!😂. I had some framers come in and fill it in all the way to the ceiling and put shiplap on that whole wall area. Turned out to be a great focal point when you come in the front door. And I also figured if someone was more modern contemporary they could paint it a color or leave it white and still be able to work with their style. It was a lot of fun for sure!
Dust will stack up really quickly on open shelves. It's not sanitary at all.
i absolutely HATE kitchen cabinets that don't go up to the ceiling!!!
I agree! My friend just built her home and didn’t run hers to the top. It looks horrible...
I am MAD! I wish I had found you last year before my kitchen remodel that was SO expensive! I just used a local kitchen cabinet designer/ sales person. My guess is we would have saved money and loved it even more had we used YOU from the start! Thank heavens I found you a few months back and our virtual design appointments have helped me furnish and decorate my new space fabulously!!! I look forward to us learning from you and my finished living and dining room spaces touched by your expertise and flare! My advise to all, it costs MORE not use a designer!
I totally agree with you K C!!!! Lol 😝 Thank you for your sweet and kind comments!!!! 🙏🏻🙂 I’m totally looking forward to helping you complete that fabulous renovation! 🥰❤️
I love your videos! Just wanted to suggest someone who is on Instagram - Lori @whiteflowerfarmhouse. She has an excellent tutorial on bleaching wood. She has an old home on LI and she has used the process to turn some ho hum wood into AH MAZING TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY!!! wood. Her Instagram account is worth a visit. Again, thank you for such fun tips!
Hey Shelley, wow thanks soooo much for this tip! I’ll be sure to check them out, I ❤️ finding out about great new resources!
I never understood the obsession with the WHITE KITCHEN - do these people cook?!?! Like really cook, not make salads, sandwiches, and cheese/pastry/fruit trays and call it a day?
Kitchen = food which represents deliciousness, experimentation, diverse, richness of cultures. It needs signs of life lol
Haha I love that you cook!!! I wish I could cook more often! I always wondered how pasta lovers don't get sauce on the walls... HAHA! 🤣😛🤪
Saturday? Check. Coffee? Check. Curled up on the couch? Check. New video from Lisa? No. 😭 So here I am watching older ones. Hope you’re doing something fun, girl! Totally with you on the open shelving. I don’t need that kind of pressure. Lol
Awww Jerri this is too sweet!! 🥰🥰 I had SO much fun this weekend working on the club!!! 💙😉 I'm SO excited to share it with you guys...just have to put on some finishing touches!! Thanks for your kind words, and see you Saturday!!! 🤩💕
Hi Lisa. Would you consider doing a video on bathrooms? We’re remodeling our en-suite bathroom in a few weeks and I need some inspo! Thx from SW FL!
I’m definitely doing a bathroom video! But in the meantime, get onto the DesignClub email list www.lisaholtdesign.com and join me for the LIVE RUclips Q&A in two weeks! Thanks 🙏🏻
Seriously! I hate the open shelf esthétique for that exact reason!
You speak to me!!!!! Kitchen cabinets all the way up? That is how I did it. And because the kitchen was small, I had my glasses stored by numbers, not types. That is, on the shelves I could easily reach, I had all the glasses and cups I needed for four people, the rest were higher. No open shelving, although I love them, for the reasons you mentioned, plus dust. Light coloured wood and no bottom cupboards, just drawers. Love your videos and your energy. You are also very accessible, friendly, I mean. It's like having coffee with my friend the designer....
Yay! Thanks so much for your kind comment and thanks for joining my channel!!
I love your videos, Lisa! Absolutely love! Can you show us more kitchens? I think I saw a totally minimal one on your channel that was just an island with a gooseneck faucet--no cabinets, nothing against the wall. Was that you? I can't find it again, so it might have been in some strange covid dream I had. (It was that bizarre.) Also, please do a show on how to style a fireplace mantel. Is there a formula for how tall the objects should be? Also, I have a high ledge above the fireplace and above the wall between the living room and the kitchen/dining. I haven't a clue. You are my North Star for 2021!!
For sure! I’ve got a number of things lined up in the next month or so that cover things like mantle’s, definitely new kitchen elements, etc. so be sure your bell notification is on, because now I am sometimes dropping videos on Tuesdays as well👍🏻🥰😍😘
Hi Lisa! Just found this video. I’m refreshing my Tuscan cherry cabinet kitchen with the brown speckled granite. You know the one. Was thinking of soapstone counters for durability with little kids instead of marble. I prefer natural materials. But I remember hearing you say you don’t like dark countertops - I want to hear more! Do you think light cabinets with the dark counters is too trendy?
Hey Athena! I LUV soapstone, it's a great performer, even tho it's not as light as some other stones, but it will feel more refreshed than the brown fleck. And yes, if you take the cherry cabinets a softer tone, but not super light, it will look really nice!
Hi Lisa/team, Big fan and your work is very impressive. Love to get your feedback. I am working on a SF 2 story interior kitchen remodel project and would love to hear some ideas/recommendations around building/designing contemporary island/islands. Can i trouble you for some ideas suggestions. I am not good with designs think outside the box ideas but i am managing a kitchen remodel going to contemporary modern kitchen look with Nice open floorplan look with open kitchen layout and build out a waterfall infinity island or islands for plenty of modern feel/look. Would it be possible to send image that shows design draft 1. Any suggestions/ideas are appreciated.
M P!!!! I would love to answer this - do you mind sending me an email at hello@lisaholt.com ?? 🧡 Thank you soo much for reaching out with this design question, I am ALWAYS here to help you guys out with your design dilemmas!!! 🥰🥰🥰
LOL, she'd hate my new kitchen. I'm getting black countertops, white cabinets and black flooring.
HAHA you never know!! I am surprised ALL THE TIME! 😛😛
Hello Lisa, design dilemna question. Do u leave open space above kitchen cabinets clear or do u place decor above? I have a white kitchen-shaker cabs, quartz countertops, marble sub tiles. I have open space above kitchen cabinets. I am more transitional in style taste. Its empty right now. Love your channel!!!!
Great question!! 💕🙌🏻 I'd add some strip lighting but keep it empty to keep your space looking clean and simple! 👍🏻😁 If that's too plain for your taste, add 3 pieces of decor - all similar in color! 🤩 That will spice things up, but keep your space a clutter-free-zone!!! 🌟
I've never understood the cabinet gap under the ceiling. Why would you want that dust-trap instead of additional storage space? Looks so much cleaner. Most of the time people put random decorations (empty cans, fake antiques etc.) there because it looks so awkward left empty. Also, I much prefer my hidden range hood that is built-in behind my cooktop and lifts up whenever I need it. That way, my husband doesn't constantly bangs his temples on the darn hood and it's out of sight when I don't cook.
Yes!! I totally agree, more storage space in thee kitchen rather than dust collecting space, all the way!! And for the range hood, that is a great idea! Thanks for watching Tanja!
Just subscribed- we are re-doing kitchen. My hubby keeps talking about charcoal gray counter tops or black--why are these not recommended? I'm not sure I agree with him--I need some counter points :)
Its all about functionality! 😘 watch my mistakes and kitchen videos
Colored kitchen Appliances are so Germanic. Loved the robin’s egg blue stove. Who knew “dressing up the ‘Hood’” could be so much fun?
I love robins egg blue tooooo!!! It's one of my FAVES! Right?! I love hood design!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
I just think Lisa is absolutely wonderful... lover her energy and her savy design ideas. :-)
Yay! Thanks so much for your kind comment and thanks for joining my channel!!
If you set this at 1.5 speed...it's hysterical!!! Great ideas...thanks! Working on kitchen re-do!
Haha! Thank you!!! 😍💕 So glad you're working on a kitchen!! Make sure to sign up for my DesignClub, launching this spring. LOTS of helpful info going to be there for you!! Sign up here: www.lisaholt.com/thedesignclub 😉😉
I have open shelving and... I HATE IT. You need a lot of alternative storage to make it work so that it can my minimalist display. Something we’re taking into account on our extension!
Very true Sarah!!!
Most of this I like but open shelving is awful. Nothing worse than a kitchen that looks cluttered. So everyone I know with open shelving uses it for display items only. They have actually sacrificed half of their true storage, Which is ok if you have a huge pantry but most don’t.
I totally agree Monique... that's why I say exactly that... "SKIP IT" - thanks for your comment
Hello Lisa, great video! Thanks for beautiful presentation and advices. I am making my new kitchen and I have a hedache about it.😓
Hey Iva! I'm glad you're joining the channel! I hope you will get all the inspiration and help you need! 🤩🙌
Hi am falling for full white cabinets and counter for kitchen. What color would you suggest for center big cabinet? Royal blue?/ grey/ brown
Pallavi!!! 💚 It totally depends!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Why don't you just copy this into my Q&A box over at www.lisaholt.com/q-a-submission!! I'll do my best to help you out over there!! 💙🥰
Lisa, you're fabulous. Love the energy in your videos, even though you're still scoffing at us mantle tv-ers (i swear, there is literally no other place to put it in our small home!). Haha! Keep having fun. Look forward to the next one.
Hi fotonut! Thanks so much for your kind comments, and thanks for joining my channel!
If you wanted to do something inexpensive to dress up your kitchen backsplash on a budget, would you choose peal and stick wallpaper or paint with stencils. Also, what do you think about using stenciling on floors?
LUV stenciled floors!!! and yes do the peel and stick, better wipaability
Hi Lisa your tip on the backsplash same as counter and seamless, would you also hide the plugs underneath the counters?
Here's a funny experience from a rookie trying to design a kitchen had picked out Copacabana granite for the island ,with white cabinets.my thinking a piece of art on my island, now im looking at super white maybe with a black perimeter? And what's your opinion on waterfall for the island? Thankyou and your work is greatly appreciated.
Well… I’d say that I usually opt to go with waterfall edges on islands. They are more expensive but they give a much more dramatic look to the space. I super appreciate your comments🙂🙂😘
Hi Lisa. Could you please meke kitchen trends for 2021? Please.....

I've never like the idea of floating shelves.
They're awful.
