    Thanks, Harley. I have about 2000 paperclips that serve no purpose other than to pin a guide rod. I keep hearing RUclips is adding more dumb restrictions. You might want to consider additional platforms.

    Thank you very much for this quick and to the point video.
    Ive never owned a pistol with a full length guide rod, and I was almost deterred from purchasing a pistol after finding out it had a full length guide rod.
    This video showed me it wont be a hassle.
    Thanks!

    That's the only thing I don’t like about my Bul Armory Government in 45, although I did know it had a full length when I bought it. The minor hassle of the full over the short rod is well worth it as the Bul is just a fantastic 1911!!

    A few questions: Who invented the M1911 guide rod and why?
    Why do people have different opinions about which version is better?
    I own an H&K USP .45 and it has a guide rod too.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Год назад +2

      The "GI" length guide rod was an integral part of the 1911 design, as it is in virtually all pistols. Without some type of guide rod, the recoil spring wouldn't stabilize in the frame. However, the full-length guide rod seemed to have come into vogue a half-century ago, seemingly to cure some non-existent issues. The opinions on full-length vs GI-length guide rods are about as strong as 9mm vs .45, Glock vs anything, and what distance to practice at.

      @v.german11b 10 месяцев назад +1

      Many top competitors claim the full guide rod ensures a smoother, more reliable cycling and reduces chances of jamming. My 1911 45 has a full guide rod. I have no issues or problems with that.

    If you have to and dont have the tool in the field you can take the gun down without the tool by using the edge of a non marring wood table and the rear sight. Thats why that rear sight is shaped like it is.

      The paper clip holds the recoil assembly compressed during field stripping.

    The idiot scratch sometimes happens because trying to pop the slide lock pin back in, it's to tight and then you try to use a knife or a credit card, some are smooth, some are so tight it's almost impossible...just saying....Ive had both...

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Год назад +2

      Many reasons. Folks also try to push the slide stop UP because it may be easier to pass the slide stop plunger, rather than straight in, which is often more difficult. The upward motion usually results in the scratch. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Год назад

      The barrel comes out from the slide the same as every other 1911. The big difference is the take-down with the guide rod.

      Thanks. Fyi this is my 1st 1911 so I didn't know. It's actually the same Bul model as featured except in Commander size. I wanted to strip it to clean the excess oil running out of the pistol from the factory. The manual wasn't very helpful and the tool included for the guide rod was too big and didn't clear the frame to reach the little hole. Your paper clip move woked like a charm though. Thanks for the content and thanks for responding. You rescued my range trip tomorrow.

    Just a couple of comments. It is not a true 1911, it is a 1911 like, just like all striker fires are not Glocks! If there isn no external barrel bushing and it has a full length guide rod it is not a true 1911. I’ve got 4 45 ACPs, a Colt Gold Cup Trophy, 1911, a Colt 1991A1 Compact, close but not quite and two Kimber, not 1911s.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Год назад +13

      Technically correct - a "true" 1911 is a .45 with a 5" bushing barrel, stubby GI sights, flat mainspring housing, long trigger and no ejection port relief. Fortunately, we have evolved to where even a Kimber Ultra Carry II in 9mm is considered to be a "compact 1911". But I guess there are those who consider a Corvette to not be a "true" corvette unless it has a PowerGlide transmission coupled to a six-cylinder engine and feeding a solid rear axle. But thanks for watching and commenting.
