A lot of very creative hobbyists out there might not be able to afford to experiment with the color/pearl combos they've dreamed up, and the fact that you guys do so many experimental combos and techniques on here, showing not only the successes, but more importantly the FAILURES gives everyone a chance to see what would happen without risking everything they saved for buying dip on a potential flop, is just amazing. And the fact that you take a lot of suggestions from your audience when it comes to what projects to try makes it that much better. Being able to see the result versus being told, "Trust me, that won't work" is a huge value to the curious mind. It doesn't matter if the person telling you it's a bad idea is an expert in their field, as that doesn't always satiate the curiosity. Thank you so much for doing what you do! There's 2 big reasons I see why your company has been so successful. You aren't scared to play, and you care about the people who support you. I always look forward to your videos!

***IDEA*** Maybe you should keep a sample of the original dip gallon, before you add the shift pearls, to paint a sample shell to compare the difference with the final product. So in this case, if you had a test shell sprayed in only electric lime green, to compare with the car after, then we could really see the difference. The result was not that bad btw, it did shift quite well.

  • @Vanish723

Dilute the paint so that it is not as dark so the shift can take hold better. Like add 50/50 clear and color base, then the shift grams then mix and test it out. Maybe do some lab work, where you guys do some small batch samples and see what actually “could” work so you aren’t throwing away a lot of product on “fails”. I don’t think it was a fail. I give it a 1.5 out of 5. I do like it and think it is cool but nobody is ever going to notice that unless they know or someone else points it out first. It’ll just be a lime green car. To us watching we loved it because we saw the subtleties and the blues shifting etc. That’s a niche small group of us fans. Great job coming up with a unique idea and keep at it!

I like the neon green, and the subtle highlight from the pearl is pretty. It makes logical sense that you would get more colour shift from the pearl if it were in a clear coat over a green base though. So, it seems to me, that the question is whether there’s a market for a subtle effect like this at the cost or would require.

I wouldn’t call it a fail, but I think you’d have had better results with going 1to1 Color/Clear mix with the pearls to dilute the color some. I could be completely wrong, but just a thought. Also, I agree with a few others, a gold/yellow flake or pearl might work better with this green

When using these colors my sister accidentily made a color shift. Now, keep in mind that we did this with dice and not on a car, and also that the following is what is true for us so far and possibly not how it works in reality, but what we found out is the color you see from straight on needs to be the bottom layer, and very much opaque. the color you want to shift at other angles needs to be transparent, and over the main opaque layer. So to make your own color shift is doable, but takes a lot of practice and knowledge of layers. (and knowledge of how the pigments work.)
I rate the attempt at a 2 simply for the cost, BTW, but I would love to see another attempt possibly using the theory above.
Also, I know you guys have said that if we found interesting uses for these color pigments to shout out to you. So far: Fishing Lure making, Resin work (Dice), 28mm and 32mm scale models for tabletop wargaming.

Results will be dramatically different between pigments, which are soluble in the alcohol/thinner or water they are sprayed wit, and pigments, which are solid particles you can't see though. Generally, if I want to really jazz up a solid pigment based paint or stain, I'll mix the pearl or flake in a coat over the color in a clear coat. It would work well in this instance. You just have to run some test sprays to decide on the density.

You can easily a give a harder flop by adding the pearl to some clear, and adding it on top of the green, instead of adding it to the color itself. I've found that adding a layer of clear over my base color first, then adding the pearl on top of that, helps the pearl to float just above the color coat. This makes the pearlescent show up even more.

I think the great thing about thus color is you didn't lose any of that great vibrant green by adding the shift on top of it. The effect is subtle. But if you like the green, you get the green but with a really nice shift on the angles.
I think it looks great. But it really depends on what you're going for. If you wanted a really heavy shift this obviously isn't it. But to keep that pure in your face green with the the subtle blue shift. Its a great sports car color without being to much. Its a sleeper pearl.

    4. Like many others I see, I really like the subtlety of it, in as much as a lime green Evo can be subtle. It's a cool little touch, and just makes your highlighter build *that much more special than the next guy's.

aw man! that came out cool as anything! definite 5, and well-worth it in my opinion! you can see the pearl shift and it is so saturated! it almost looks like neon shark skin that is lime! !! WAY COOL!!! 🎉

That color is beautiful. You guys were talking about other colors to try. How about black cherry with the flake from the mustang dark horse? I think that would be a great mix.

Bright green generally isn’t my thing, but I really like this one! If I didn’t know better, the subtle blue would make me turn to see what blue object it was reflecting. That’s when you realize it’s a totally *sublime* shift! Haha, I had to.

Love the subtle change. You should do a puzzle piece car with every piece being a different base same pearls and load to show how they react with each base. If you have enough pieces, then you could change the Pearl load. Even be interesting to see interference and non interference next to each other for a comparison.
