Dad was an airforce controller, and saw similar pressures in the movie. Airforce air space mixed with commercial and private, could be testy at times but nowhere near civvy situations. Fortunately not all pilots have the view of controllers as those pilots in the heavy.
I love this movie my friend! One of the best movies when it comes to air traffic control, the flight instructions, the phraseology between controllers and pilots is very close to that used in real air traffic control. thank you by the post! thanks so much!
Trouble is life is way too hectic ,too many planes in the air, too many people being told to rush, too much pressure to compete with other airports around the world, same with other forms of transport, and everything else in general. We're all rushing around so fast in life , we don't have time to appreciate what little life we have. 🥺
Getting on the aircraft, taking off and relaxing ahead of that in-flight drink and meal is only a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes. I've flown many thousands of miles in my life and have always been aware of that ground support we cannot do without. I congratulate all those who make passenger safety their life. Thanks guys, all of you.
I find that a pointless comment. Talk about stating the obvious and then you have the cabin crew who help terrified flyers like me, look after the captains etc.. so many people. You may be able to relax as you have allegedly flown all those miles but then if you had, you would know that ATC is only a fraction of the people that make things run smoothly
@@flight101 "Pointless comment "for you maybe. I'm 75 and flown into places where if it hadn't have been for ground support I wouldn't be here today. You may take such things for granted in today's world of air travel but remember, it wasn't always like that! How old are you and how many miles have you flown?????
Yes, a very complex sophicated infrastructure is behind the scene, but weakest link is the human factor. I'm assuming FAA's computers were modernined from old tube-type 😀 , new radar & new abbreviated navigation protocols, etc.
I am just a private pilot, I could never deal with the stress level of any air traffic controller, I have great respect for those guys. Even flying a big jet is a peace of cake in comparison. Great movie thank you.
“Just”a prívale pilot’? I’d rather hear more confidence by you “just” saying .. “ I am a prívale pilot”. Sounds better and looks better on paper. 😊 HAPPY FLYING CAPTAIN
@@lovejohntaylor It’s an attribute to be able to praise your own accomplishments, while explaining how you achieved them. Who cares about criticism ? I have great respect for the pilots who have to fly up there and hope the controllers know where the hell you peeps are in the air. You just hope your transponder is seen by them.
I've always been fascinated by airports, airlines and ARTC (AIRROUTE TRAFFIC CONTROL). It all started with the movie and novel AIRPORT (1970)! The ARTC people are fantabulous!
My uncle worked at Stansted, before he moved to the Directorate of Airspace Policy at the CAA (in the UK). Before all that, he was an observer/navigator in the Royal Navy; in the Fleet Air Arm. Having seen Air Traffic Control at Stansted, it gave me a greater understanding and appreciation for this film... and how difficult the job just can be...!
I nearly didnt watch this because thought it would be boring. Really opens a persons eyes to see what these people do. I even checked out to see how you get a job with air traffic control, i dont qualify. Not smart enough. Very excellent film well done. Nice one
Not what I expected but really really good! This was a breath of fresh air because they took the time to develop the characters and make them familiar and likable or irritating. TY!!
AN EXEEDINGLY GREAT MOVIE. NO OVER ACTING. KIEFER SUTHERLAND PLAYED A GREAT PART IN KEEPING THIS FI LM FULL OF SUSPENSE TO THE VERY END. GREAT ................
The title was a misnomer - Ground Control has nothing to do with airplanes in flight, only terminal departures, arrivals and taxiing. But the movie was quite good. A non-violent, non-sexual "A" movie with name stars. Keiffer was a stand-out.
My dad was an airforce controller, and thanks the heavens he wasn't in civvy control...having to put up with people who thought they had the only priorities. He was going on what his friends in civvy street told him the things that their control directors had to put up with. And then the directors would send the pressure down through the system to the controllers on the job who actually did all the work, to save the director's ass. A lot of what you saw in the movie was mostly true. Nowadays they have more failsafe equipment...but politicians will always gum up the budget where it is most needed.
Excellent film with great cast. Kiefer Sutherland always super and gotta love Henry Winkler. Suspenseful plot and wonderful cast all. You'll enjoy it !

One night she was invited to tour the control center ,she was like a kid ,so excited !! When she came home ,she couldn't stop talking about it !! This truly is one of the best movies I've ever seen, great drama keeps the suspense the whole movie, and a tear jerker especially at the end when he meets the pilot in the terminal after saving the jet.

Robert Sean Leonard played a very different character, to the one he played in House. As for Michael Goss, you couldn't imagine a more different character, than Burt Gummer.
Kiefer, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose a parent because my own beloved father passed away last April 21st and the pain is agonizing. Obviously my father was not as famous as yours but he was very famous within our family.❤❤
Very good movie I learned to do NDB approaches using time turns and had to demonstrate proficiency to get my commercial ticket. In a much smaller aircraft though
“ You wouldn’t happen to have one of these stuck up your ass, would you?” Boy, if I said, that one of my employers, that would be a major problem! LOL! 🤣🤣😂😂
Well, in general the aviation industry does try to learn from any and all 'events'. If anyone has a fear of flying, I recommend checking out RUclipsrs such as Ask Captain Scott, Blancolirio, Captain Joe, Mentour, 74 Gear and so many others. Personally, I think the best part of IFE is sitting 5-6 rows behind the trailing edge of the the right wing (just to watch the 'stuff' happening - always awesome). And remember, when you're horsing down the runway, at/after a certain point the ONLY thing the aircraft can do is FLY - enjoy the moment! "Time flies and so will we'.
There were two versions of this movie. The DVD version shoehorned in a bunch of effects stolen from Turbulence and resulted in inconsistencies as to the appearance and make of aircraft (Boeing 747 turning into a 737 between scenes). This is a much better version.
These controllers do have the best job in the world.........they get to talk to real pilots all day long! Ok ok, I know it's a very, very old joke but this movie is one of my favorites still. Thanks for uploading this one!

I worked at Chicago O'Hare for years for United Airlines. I can tell you that this movie was well done. Always liked Bruce McGill.
Why is it so dark in Chicago center?
Yep - Bruce was terrific in MacGyver. Also, he appeared in (the still awesome) Babylon 5 - one episode but a pivotal one. First class.
I worked for the DFW ARTCC for 7 years; outstanding movie!
