I had the same experience over 35 years ago. Other strange calls to Scotland for my entire life, which I ignored because I have no ancestry or ties there. After Outlander reminding me of all the "coincidences" that drew me there, I have decided not to ignore the promptings any more, and will return as soon as possible. Culloden smacks me in the gut, the heart, and spirit, and I feel real grief. I need to explore this more. Anybody else have similar calls?
@@tinahamilton9058absolutely, but for me it is a battlefield in the USA. I knew my way around a field I’d never before been to and I really feel like it’s a be past life related thing.
You mean the government army ? More Scots fought against Charlie than for him, remember it wasnt a Scots thing, it was a Jacobite thing. Scotland was more pro government than for Charlie.
@@ronreway5079 The Black Watch, you mean? Clan Campbell, who butchered many smaller clans on the orders of the British government. Like Clan Colquhoun and the Mcdonalds of Glencoe.
As a MacLachlan, I felt the spirits of my ancestors who fought there, as did my wife, a Fraser. The ancestors are real and present and exist in the memorial stones.
Always makes me sad. I visited Culloden. I didn't see any ghosts but was very impressed by the site and the visitor centre. Brave men fought a losing battle
They certainly do - I felt them all of them - such a beautiful sad spot - god forbid someone builds on it for the sake of a money! It should be a protected historical area
Patricia they were not fighting for the freedom of Scotland , they were trying to win back the English crown for bonnie Prince Charlie . The same English crown that Ireland loathes .
Patricia thank you for your kindness. Yes I can understand what your saying freedom of lreland too. I'm Scottish. But my mum is Irish come s from cork.
@@dannyabel1585 Actually Douglas is right. Instead of the usual nationalist hysteria maybe check out a video on Culloden that's done by a Scottish guy on the channel Scotland History Tours. The Battle of Culloden was just one part of a continent wide conflict.
I have never visited a more solemn and mournful feeling place in my life. God bless them always and shame on those who would build condominiums on this site.
What people forget is that Scots fought on both sides of this civil war, with some clans fighting other clans. . At Culloden the Government army was made up of many many Scots. It was the last battle fought on British soil and contrary to popular belief was not between England and Scotland.. It was sad that so many people on both sides had to die and be injured. When I visit Culloden field, I remember with sadness all who died in this battle..
From NZ . I went last year , for a month with my 40 year old daughter . My Dad came from Kirkintillock when he was two . Never felt more happy and at home , than in the Western Isles . The song brought tears to my eyes . I will return for a longer visit soon . JBM
You could say that war can be sprinkled with romance, but the conflict itself is anything but. Although I wonder why the Scottish for the most part still supported the Stuarts? Did they learn nothing from the slaughter of the Irish Jacobites at Aughrim?
David Dowdall because it was a nationalist movement, it was a war to end the union and secure our independence by putting the Stuart’s back on the throne
Used to go to see Ronnie's father Stuart Ross at the Tryst in Inverness on a Friday night he had a great voice where does Ronnie sing can anyone tell me as going north later this year
Ok I just saw the video and it looks like a 👻 or 2 popping up after he sings ( a lonely pupper- clashing et) look at the mountains and see the smokey things appear and go towards sings ear , right side
My clan opposed the Jacobite uprising we never fought with the English but we never fought for Prince Charlie I guess we were smart but we then took part in a rebellion against England after and as a consequence we lost 2 castles and the castles we had left just crumbled away over time that’s when many went to America I’m still in my homeland where I will remain.
Lovely video, thanks. Shame the words don’t reflect the truth about the Jacobite rebellion. There were more Scots in the Government army and these brave lads faced the highland charge. Culloden was a tragedy.
Went up to the Highlands Hotel in steraphpeffer saw Ronnie Ross sing this ballad apsultly beautiful can't get it out of my head head he sang it from his heart met him after his show very loverly man ps thanks Ronnie.

It is Stain on the British professional army I know their Souls are there they left an impression on that moor which will haunt those who come to see.
When we visited Culloden I was filled with emotions, like I was being called home. I cannot explain it, but the feelings were real.
My dad and brother said that as well.

Very beautiful.... Yes, I’ve been to Culloden and yes I felt there presence.... they remain.
Of course they remain they died a horrible death people / ghosts tend to stick around when they do so
MrkStphn91 aye, some linger, some are at peace, and some are burning in the fires of hell (the redcoats)

So romantic Bonnie Prince Charlie my favourite piece of history.

Stevie when in history have people stopped believing in something because they saw others die for it? That usually just makes them believe in it more.
Virtually all the Aristocracy were related to one another, and highly corrupt through the entailment of Property.(Especially in Scotland)

Song's a little innaccurate, but lovely none the less.
