    That is one stunning automobile. One of my favorite model year. I owned a '68 Catalina. Beautiful rides.

    Nicer looking than anything on the road today. Simply beautiful inside and out. Pontiac nailed it. 1965 was good for GM and Chevrolet sold more Impalas in '65 than they did in any other year. But this Pontiac was a level up and oh so rare now. Worth the 159k owner suggested as his selling price. Pontiac !!! 👍👍

    Pontiac, earlier Oakland autos, had some of the coolest wheels, this aluminum wheel being a good example. Living just north of Pontiac, our locals built these machines. They lived "We Build Excitement!" And we did,,,

    I had the good fortune to buy one of these in Very good condition for $500. in 1975.
    It had the 389 with 3 dueces and a 3 speed Manual Hurst shifter.
    I loved driving it.
    I did some street racing and it handled great. Sadly I drove it off a closed bridge overpass. The bridge had been removed and there was only 1 sign with a flashing light.
    I blew past it going 110 mph. I tightened my seat belt, put my feet on the dash held on to the padded steering wheel and rode it down. I hit the ground at about a 45 degree angle. It broke pretty badly. I was luckly not hurt. It was 3:30am.
    After the car stopped moving and the dust settled I crawled out my window and was standing there when a really fat counrty cop rolled up. Yep, he gave me a ticket. A big one.
    For? Failure to control my vehicle. I miss that beauty of a car.

    Selling those was a problem. It didn't take much to get $5000 in 1 new with not many options. Back in those days a GTO sold for much less with the same options. I had a yellow with black interior, 421 HO/4-speed. It didn't have the dress wheels nor a console, no power steering or brakes. Those had braking problems from new that only got worse with age. The front brakes lines would collapse & GM issued service bulletins long after I sold the car.

    • @daleliske1926
      @daleliske1926 2 года назад

      But the 421 had better output than the GTO even though it was heavy. Or it was close. Still talking a car weighing 1000 pounds more than the GTO and could fit 5-6 people comfortably. I have a 69 Chevelle. I'm 6'4" its pretty much a 2 seater when I'm driving.! Lol

  • @basilcarroll9729

    General Motors would have absolutely freaked if John Delorean put the 421 in the GTO, they were pissed enough that he went beyond the 330 limit for A body cars. But Pontiac did install the 421 in a few GTOs for car magazine writers to test drive at the proving grounds (they were led to believe the were stock 389s.

    A Bonneville isn't a Catalina trim level, it's a completely different model Pontiac. People shouldn't attempt to act like experts when they haven't an idea of what they're talking about.

    • @morphie12
      @morphie12 4 года назад +2

      Absolutely correct; the 2+2 is a Catalina body with a 421, either with the base 421, H.O. or tri-power.

      It virtually is, but statement "completely different model" is barely related to cars with same chassis, body and drivetrain. For me it's like the guy is saying all essentially different trim of full sized Pontiacs)

    421 H.O.--HO WHOA!! Freakin over the rarest of the rugged options on this weed-picked vehic. And the throaty exhaust note has me pinned to the upholstery more than the Chimp after a Pop's hilting. What do you think? How rough does it freak you?

    I miss it I want to cry that was my very first car in 1972 the 2 + 2 with that same engine but minehead skirts in the back of the wheel well so I covered up the whole back tires and unfortunately when I was a kid we were stealing gas on the farms and we stole gas out of a diesel tractor and you know what happened it would not go forward but I could drive that Pontiac in reverse 10 mi on the blacktop all the way home at 2:00 in the morning and I let it sit and I think my dad junked it after that I want to cry and her name was Bertha Bertha butt that was her name I miss her so much but back then cars are only $200 a car and they were easy to pick up but I still want to cry especially now when I hear 159,000 but the car after that was a Nova 68 Nova I used to have a hundred cars everything from 69 Camaro SS 57 Chevys 55 Chevys 56 wagons I had a 37 Plymouth coupe with a chop top with a 409 That's not going all the El caminos and all the Chevys and the dodgers My Dodge Challenger and charger the 68 and 69 and my Ford Fairlane was a 394 speed two-door I want to cry

    My friend Guy had the same model car, same color white with black interior. His dad had died and His mom would buy him a new car every year since getting his driver's license. I really think at an auction, sorry t say, he would get near $69,000 for the car. If him, I would call Jay Leno and ask if he would be interested.

    You're both "car guys" but had no idea what this was.! The owner. It's ALL original. Car guys.. so you had it repainted.! Yeah you're car guys all right. ! Go back to looking at rice burners. You don't have a clue about any car older than 10 years.! WTF. I wasn't even born when this car came out. Missed it by one year. But I know what it is. And I know enough when an owner says it's All original, not to ask if it's been repainted with only 14k miles.!
