15:27 Hello Teacher, Here is another question. I have answered ‘If he took care of himself, he wouldn’t have been sick right now.’ Your suggested answer in the video sounds good, and I am wondering if my answer would be also seen as a proper one. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I've been looking for a comprehensive lesson about mixed conditionals for quite a while, and this is by far the best one. Please make more advanced lessons like this in future.
Wow I feel like a genius right now. I have chosen the correct part in "if you had taken...". Love it when I can give correct answers. Thank you for the video
I appreciate your challenging/proactive/enthusiastic lesson. I challenged your mini quiz. Mixed Conditional 2 ( condition part = past simple; result part = would have + past participle) 1: If I trusted him I would have hired him for the job . Mixed Conditional 1 ( condition part = past simple; result part = would + present simple) 2: If he took care of himself he would not be sick right now. 1st Conditional ( condition part = present simple; result part = would have + future simple) 3: If I am going on a business trip next week I will not accept a new assignment at work.
Good evening dear Wes I learnt a lot about mixed conditionals in this video. Even though I have come across so many of them while reading novels and other books, the real meaning could be recognised now. Thanks a lot sir
Mixed conditionals are really confusing and they need more concentration and practice. Of course I did mistakes, but I , have learned some details about using them. Teacher Wed thank so much indeed,,,!
@@InteractiveEng Thank you! If I may ask, why did you use the simple past form “I were” in the sentence “If I were afraid of snakes, …”, but “I was” in the sentence “If I wasn’t so busy, …”? Are both forms acceptable and correct? Or is there any reason why you employed different forms? I would appreciate your help. Kind regards, Anna
Hi there.. I have a question with regard to mixed conditional..In 8:10 says: If I had taken the job,I'd be moving to New York next month. Is that wording in the second part of clause obligatory,or we can say: I'd go to New York next month.
10:36 Hello Teacher, I have a question here. What is the difference between ‘If I had been afraid of snakes, I would not have gone camping.’ and ‘If I were afraid of snakes, I would not have gone camping.’? I think there is no difference between two in meaning because in both cases, the speaker was not afraid of snakes before going camping. Please tell me what you think. Thank you.
Hi, the first time when I faced mixed conditional#2 I thought like this, and I considered the the same as third conditional, but if we pay attention much more, we could realize that the first part of mixed conditional#2 is a hypothetical situation in the present by using past simple, but the first part of third conditional is a situation that is related to the past. You know I'm not certain, but this is how I differentiate them. 🙏
Well, you can't tell "If I had been afraid of snakes, I would not have gone camping". 3rd cond is about regrets. And it is like nonsense, like I would say " If I had had more time, I would not have done a task". Do you feel it? And, "If I were afraid of snakes, I would not have gone camping". Try some sarcastic way in saying "huh, if I were afraid of snakes, I would not have gone camping. I am afraid of nothing here!"
Yes, the subjunctive works. In spoken English - and sometimes when written as well - people may not follow this rule. I was trying to mix up the examples. 👍
If we were afraid of public speaking, we would not have volunteered to give the presentation. If he were lactose intolerant, he would not have eaten the cheese cake.
Hello Wes thanks very much for your help your quality of work has helped me improved in my fluency I just have a problem as I keep accumulating vocabulary and am on able to put it in use as I don’t have people around me to communicate with as a result I get to forget with time in addition I even feel awkward expressing myself please is there any app that I can use in communication on at least speaking and texting so it helps me improve thanks.Fabien from Cameroon 🇨🇲

I am confused with the use of were and was for the first and third person, sometimes is used was and sometimes is used were. Is there any difference? great lesson!
If I hadn't studied by myself it, I wouldn't understand this video! (I hope that sentence is okay 😅). More examples! I wouldn't be improving my English skills if I hadn't taken a gamble on it! (And the reason is ❤ my love prince!) I wouldn't get a cold if I had to wear a mask.
This lesson made mixed conditonals more friendly. However, I still don't understand why there is the 2nd mixed conditional when we have the regular 3rd conditional.

Either works. Grammatically speaking, I'd recommend the subjunctive. In spoken English, you will definitely hear both. 👍

In 12:09, why the verb that was used is 'wasn't' and not weren't ? The subject is 'I' right? So it means the verb has to be plural
