  • In this video we talk about how to use the conversion assistant on the TI-Nspire CAS to convert from one type of unit to another. This is an amazing feature that's definitely under used. It will let you convert lengths, volumes, area, time, etc. This is the feature that does dimensional analysis for you. Lots of applications in physics, chemistry, and biology along with math.

    Thank you. I knew these were on my nspire, just had not used them. This is one of the reasons I got this calculator. Thing is, this is unwieldy compared to my old TI-85 and TI-86. I'm thinking about defining conversion constants, then enter 36in2ft or something similar to shorten the process. It would be nice to have a screen like the 85 or 86 and be able to complete the conversion in fewer keystrokes. Great instructional video. Great work. Thanks again. ☺

    I saw your comment below about updating. I just updated my software and it is not there. I was able to find it. I had to update the software on my computer before I could update the OS.

    Where do you find the conversion assistant?

      I'm running OS 4.5 and I'm pretty sure it was a new feature in that OS. You can get the OS update here: education.ti.com/en/software/update/ti-nspire-software-update

      or you can click the conversion symbol, the tiny black triangel, just like 12_ftblacktriangel_in, then press enter, it'll give you the answer 144_in

    @turksvids Why is there no weight conversion?

      Turks, Just follow his example and select "Force" instead of "Length." TI's conversions are technically exact (as they should be). When you are at the natural grocer and they are selling things by the gram, yet they weigh them on a scale, it introduces a confusion factor (technically, they should be selling things by the Newton 🙂 ).

    My calculator is an nspire cx . It does not have converter function in 3 menu as the one being shown

      I do not actually know if Unit Conversion is a feature of the CX.
      Unfortunately, I suspect not based on what you're saying.

    How to convert g to kg ??

    • @turksvids
      @turksvids  6 лет назад +1

      gm to kg? Enter the number of grams, go to the conversion assistant, pick Mass from the drop down menu, opt to change from gm to kg, press enter until you get your answer. Hope this helps!

    how would u convert lb/in^2 to N/m^2

    • @turksvids
      @turksvids  6 лет назад +1

      In the conversion assistant pick Pressure from the first dropdown and then lbf/in^2 in the "From:" dropdown and N/m^2 for the "To:" dropdown. Not sure why the f is there after lb, but I'm pretty sure that does what you're looking for. Hope this helps!

    How to multiply 25*3%

    • @turksvids
      @turksvids  5 лет назад +3

      There's not a built-in function for that. But if you remember that percent means "out of 100" you can always convert percents to decimals: 3% is 3 out of 100, so 3/100 and your problem becomes to find 25*(3/100), which the calculator could definitely handle.
      Hope this helps!
