Hey Graham, First off differential ailerons are not possible with this receiver. The retracts still work on the gear channel or aux1/channel 5. You will just see different gain settings when you flip the retracts up or down or will need to set them tot eh same if that is your choice.
I have done the installation correctly with no problems or issues on the receiver thanks this video. Dont know what the guy is talking about who said that it doenst work with the dx9. Everythings perfect. Going for the first flight with the AS3X in my e-flite extra 300 32e. The LEDs are not easy to understand when you look at it for the first time. But if you want to get this done, you will need some time spending in brainworks!! And this is just the way it is. Regards
Thanks John. I bought the Parkzone sport cub PNP and I'm using the AR635 from the Splendor, failed EL servo retired the Splendor. LOL I had no elevator control from the AR635 after binding, but all works great now. Keep up the good works.
Ok.. I had some servos revered so thats why it wouldn't enter gain mode.. Very clear in the instruction manual but i was relying solely on this video.. Very easy to program the gains!.. My Beast 60E is all setup and ready to maiden.. I haven't been this excited about a plane in a LONG time.. It went together beautifully.. The size is great and the quality is the best i have seen on a plane from anyone.. hoping it will fit in my car without having to take the wings off!!!
Ok, I installed this in my Christen Eagle II, The plane is awesome without it, but wanted to try it out. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It actually works great. The plane tracks straight and responds well. Great on take offs and landings as well. There is a little twitching, wing shake at full throttle, so may have to adj sensitivity. I keep it on 3D setting for more surface throws. This design should not be so complicated. I do like the results.
20 bucks for the reciever and this video let me turn the as3x off. After watching this video i had zero issues programming mine. Its more simple than the ar 7000 whatever with the bluetooth and ya gotta draw a graph to make the plane fly strange in an app.... I just turn it off now. It worked great in the sport cub which got me rehooked on planes after 20 years.
Great post. Emailed a very comprehensive outline of my experience with the AR635 in applications such as the VisionAire (great results) and the Carbon-Z Yak 54 (mixed to poor results). Also commented on the peculiar nature of the automatic dual rate mapped to one position of the gear switch. The video didn't mention dual rates at all, or other specific Tx-side limitations such as those for expo or the maximum 6 clicks of trim. For me, though, the automatic dual rate is a major frustration.
As said in another comment, a picture in picture closeup of the RX would be very helpful. You keep talking about SOLID lights, yet all I see are a bunch of flashing lights. I have a friend who installed this RX in his 3d plane, and loves it, but after watching this video, I think I will just stick with my ar600.
I have a really hard time to program my AR636 Rx , it will be nice to see a video from you on how to program it. Or do you program the AR636 the same way you do the AR635....???
These are servo travel percentages for all three flight modes and gear sw positions: 3D Computer 3D Mode (Gear Pos 1): All 100% General Flight Mode (Gear Pos 0): Ail 60%, Elev 25%, Rud 100% 3D Non Computer (DX4e/5e) 3D Mode (Gear Pos 1): All 100% General Flight Mode (Gear Pos 0): Ail 65%, Elev 32%, Rud 100% Sport Mode 100% for Ail, Elev, and Rud, for both Gear Pos 1 and 2

In 3D mode, there are 2 rates of travel that are built in and non -adjustable and tied to the gear switch In sport mode, full travel is maintained in both gear switch positions: The AR635 imposes pre-set travel values(rates) on Ail/Elev/Rud Channels depending on the mode the receiver is operated in. I just got two of these in a trade...Jeeese-o-Pete! Could this be more confusing!? I think I got the bad end of the deal! Lights are not solid on mine. Lights are flashing. How about a simple program to hook it to a computer like the eagle tree guardian?!
What were they thinking? The last thing anybody needs is a receiver that second-guesses control input from the ground. I received a plane for xmas with an AR635 installed, and it lost its marbles and forgot how to respond to elevator controls after 4 or 5 flights (never ever skip your pre-flight checks... ) . I've tried defaulting the unit to factory settings, but it seems to ignore all attempts. If I cant disable their training-wheels, I'll just replace the whole thing with a conventional "dumb" unit that operates predictably.
Can i switch from 3d flight mode to Sport mode during flight from a switch like using gear switch or am i stuck in the flight mode that i programmed my radio for? Big thanks for a reply guys.
A useful video! You mentioned the 3D settings but skipped on to the Sport settings far too quickly. A bit of time spent explaining the two basic choices, 3D and Sport, the differences between them, and that each has two modes chosen with the gear switch (CH5 - Dx5, ACT - Dx4) would help a lot. A picture in picture close up of the receiver LEDs would greatly improve the video. ON SOLID needs clarification too. It looks like just the first of many blinks. Wish we had this a month ago! Are typical settings such as dual rates and expo supported? 2) Can this receiver be used with "flaperons"?
Great guide. I have recently purchase the Hobbyzone Delta Ray and I am really impressed with the SAFE technology. I think it would be great to have this technology (Panic Button) available for all models no matter what the experience level. Is this currently the case or is this only available as BNF in the likes of the Apprentice, Delta Ray & F4U Corsair? Basically what I am asking is, are there receivers available on the market catering for this? I would love to have SAFE technology in the likes of the E-flight P51 Mustang with retracts. The corsair looks great but is lacking the retracts. Once again great guide for the AS3X setup.

Dan Moore. I have not been able to get mine to work on my dx6 because the panic recovery keeps kicking off on aux1 when I use the gear. I almost feel like just using another remote and receiver for flaps and gear.

Say I have a model with flaps and retracts, since I feel it would be counterproductive to have my gain adjustments linked to the gear switch in this position would it be possible to switch that function to one of the F Mode or Mix/Hold switches on my DX 8? Multiple attempts to enter the gain mode have failed. Using a DX8, everything centered and zero'd out. Even reset the model completely. Can not get into the gain mode! Any ideas?
basemandog Do you have the AILERON ELEVATOR and RUDDER in the Normal not Reversed? They must all be in Normal for the receiver to work as the manual shows. Once you are finished adjusting the gain, you must return any channels that were reversed back to the Reverse using Servo Reverse function.
I have a noob question about setting up the ar635 in a fms 1400mm Mustang. I'm mounting the ar635 between de wings above the CG. I was just wondering while setting up the ar635 can the Mustang stay on it wheels (so the nose is pointing up) or must I lift the tail so it's horizontal like in level flight during setup?
This receiver eill be a support nightmare for spektrum horizon. There are many pilots at our field that are having lots of trouble. Hard to tell if the receivers are defective or just mis programmed
I have also ran into this issue, it works well but does not operate as the manual says. And suggested gain settings are way off, requires lots of tuning.
Man guys, I suppose you could have made that more difficult to do but you really would have had to work at it. I know it's a job for you all but for us this is a hobby, it's supossosed to be FUN- you know? :) I was once a programmer and I remember a lesson being repeatedly drilled into us; WE are programmers, WE LOVE tinkering with this stuff but you have to develop code with the end users in mind and they do not want a bunch of futzing around. I think your engineers really forgot to keep the end users in mind when developing this product.
I have programmed the spektrum beast x AR7200bx on my helis these are simple the Ar635 is aweful this tutorial helps why can't these programmers look at a simple system with a link to either a laptop or computer or even a phone or tablet app the hardware cost for these is minimal or like a esc a programming card as bleeps and coloured lights flashing don't help I was useless at morse code as a child and find the AR635 stress full to programme and then trust in a model
I hate stick program ESCs and gyros. Geeze!. This does help, but if you want a better gyro system with wing leveling and heading hold buy a Guardian by Eagletree. It has pots for quick adjustment and reversal of correction direction AND, best of all there is simple PC based program where you can do it all on your computer.
Very unhappy with the programming of this receiver. a total nightmare for me. Quick changes in gain or other settings at the field, especially in bright sunlight, not easy. Dial type adjustments like on the Guardian would be a lot better. No clear explanation of dual rate or expo in the video or manual. Got this receiver with my new Carbon Z Cub. Not really satisfied with either at this point.

I got the basics down I cant get into the 2nd flight modes for sport model DX9. Think im gonna sell it and get a Guardian.
This is not a problem as much as it was designed that way. Te reduction in elevator throw is normal.

The 3D settings and Sport settings are all the same and can be set to your liking. They are done the same way.

I'm going to program mine tonight for my 4s Stinger 64. Not that it needs it but it gonna make landings and hand launches easier o think.

The instructions are easy to understand.. but unfortunately my ar635 isn't responding in any way while trying to get into the modes.

How in the hell do you save the gains? After I unplug my receiver it goes back to the gyros again I'm confused.

Got mine programmed but hard to believe HH made it this hard to understand. Of course after you learn it, its easy.

I would recommend calling our Product Support staff at 888-959-2305, they are best equipped to help in situations such as this.
