Thin seats are typically found on low-cost airlines (Ryanair, Jetstar, JetBlue, AirAsia, etc.). They use these thinner seats so that they can cram in more seats for cheaper fuel burn per seat. Malaysia Airlines is a full-service airline (just like British Airways, American Airlines, Air China, etc.). So it uses the thicker, more comfortable seats for better passenger comfort.
