Everyone still treats the dragonborn like a common thug even after killing alduin and saving the world. If becoming divine is a matter of worship then yeah not gonna hold my breath.
Yep, everytime I walk away with a Daedric Artifact while they're still spouting off about me being their servant: "How bout NO?!? Ya crazy Daedric bastard". This thing is just gonna whined up as a decoration in my house anyway.
That moment when you just sold your soul to the daedric prince of theives, but you already sold it to the daedric prince of the hunt about a week prior, so your afterlife is kinda booked...
Nocturnal: Your soul belongs to me when you're a nightingale. Sithis: The listener belongs to me. Hercine: No, he's a werewolf, he belons to me. Molag Bal: Up until he became a vampire. Lorkan: Guys, guys, as the Dragonborn his soul is to go to Soverngard. Sheogorath: CHEESE!
Fun fact! That whole "Once you die, you'll be sent to [Insert Daedric Plaine here]" thing only applies to anyone who ISN'T Dragonborn. But, because you are Dragonborn, you are Akatosh's Avatar. Meaning, no matter who you make deals with, Akatosh will override all of that, and you will go to Soverngard.
I imagine only Nords would actually go to Sovngarde (if they wanted to). Along that same line, the Dragonborn could either choose, or would likely return to Akatosh. Sovngarde isn't Akatosh's realm, but Shor's (aka Lorkhan), and it's often described as "the nordic afterlife"
How would you die? You absorbed the souls of Alduin, Parthurnax, and every other dragon before meeting Mirrak who could shout apart entire peninsulas with one shout. Then you beat Mirrak and absorb his power as well. You are middle to high god-tier power by the end.
You know there's a theory that since you have the soul of a dragon in Skyrim at least when you die you will return to akatosh so basically no one gets your soul and some variations state that you basically it to choose where afterlife you go to because you are part of the original god of the universe

My biggest annoyance is being told we need nocturnals power to have a chance against Mercer and then she refuses to actually give us any power until after we beat Mercer meaning we sold our soul for basically nothing.
It wasn't about having her power, it was about having her favor. You could probably argue that without Nocturnal on your side, you wouldn't have been able to make it to Mercer, because technically, it was luck that you're able to make it to him in time. There just happened to be another path to him after he tried blocking it off, and by the time you get to him, he's already almost made off with both eyes of the Falmer. If Nocturnal wasn't a factor, things might not have worked out the way they did.

Entering the nightingale hall to collect the nightingale armor with my carry weight nearly over the limit was one of the most extreme experiences I've ever had.
Near the end I stopped collecting as much garbage loot and it was so much more less annoying than being constantly overencumbered after going through a dungeon haha
Dragonborn: So... that’s it? I get your artifact and I’m free to go? Sheogorath: Yup, thanks for helping me finish my vacation. Dragonborn: You don’t want my soul or undying loyalty or anything? Nothing at all? Sheogorath: Hmmm, not really! Got any brain pie?
Hermaeus Mora also doesn't care about your soul or any other for that matter, since he will learn everything about you the moment you die as he's the God of knowledge. Merida simply asks for you to spread some light in to the world and get rid of any undead as she hates them. Mehrunes Dagon doesn't ask for your soul, only for you to use his dagger and cause mayhem with it. (so basically, have fun using it to kill as many as you can with it) Boethiah simply wants you to kill as many people as possible, especially her old champion who holds the champions armor and let's you keep it if you succeed until a new champion comes along. I think, but I'm not sure that Mehrunes Dagon and Boethiah are both children of Sithis and the Night Mother. You start serving Sithis the moment you join the Dark Brotherhood, the souls of the kills you make will be send to the void to serve Sithis. Sithis doesn't need to demand your soul, as he's basically the God of Death and can decide if a soul is going to serve him or be send elsewhere like Sovngaurd. Only a few God's (Deadric Princes) say and ask for your soul in return, even though they already know they won't be able to claim yours.
To be COMPELTELY fair. The sheogorath in skyrim was your player character in oblivion. So what the hell do they need a super overpowered rpg character for? They are one.

You name it I’ve been there and made it back in one piece and stronger than I was before baby, what’s another plain of Oblivion or completely fucked up version of reality? Bring it on! By the end of it I’ll probably have YOUR job and be better at it.”
If the Dragonborn can go to the Soul Cairn, basically a version of hell, and come back with two and a half men, what could you loot from other planes of oblivion?

I like to joke that the daedric princes and the divines are going to enter a serious custody battle over the dragonborn after they die. It's hilarious to think about Hircine, Nocturnal, and the others arguing who gets the Dragonborn then the divines pop in like actually this one is ours. solved a civil war and started a war amongst the deadra and divines.
Actually, being the Dragonborn, Akatosh is the one to get first dibs on your soul. So, technically, yes, you would go to Sovengard, with the ability to go to other places, such as the Void, the realms of Oblivion, and the Mortal realm as a spectral being. You know, because the Dragonborn is actually an Incarnation of Akatosh.
Actually he's a reincarnation of Tiber Septim, which is the incarnate of Lorkhan, which is the collective of Sithis/Shor/Akatosh which are all one person, so in other words, yes. You're technically correct.
When Nightingales fufil their bargain with Nocturnal, they become one with the shadows, becoming sort of guardian spirits for fellow thieves. It might not be as glamorous as drinking in sovngarde, but it is a more fitting afterlife for a thief.
@@innocence3156 I don't think most thieves would be that type of selfless person. If they were, they wouldn't be stealing from everyone in the first place
One of my biggest issues with the thieves guild quest is the fact that you can't refuse to join the nightingales. Karliahs whole reasoning for that is that we need the edge to fight Mercer, even though I'm the Dragonborn, who single handedly killed Alduin and countless dragons, the arch mage of winterhold, the one who ended the Civil War and killed Ulfric/Tullius, and a vampire lord who defeated Lord Harkon. But no, *only* by becoming a nightingale can I possible hope to defeat one man in a three on one fight.
It's a one-on-one fight, though. Mercer uses his "subterfuge" ability on Brynjolf, and Karliah has to subdue him while you fall off the ledge, and 1v1 Mercer. I mean, it's still an easy fight, but to call it 3v1 is kind of wrong. No offense.

Your soul will always go to Akatosh, if you defeat Miraak, a Dragonborn, his soul will float up indicating that all Dragonborns go to Akatosh. Considering how powerful Akatosh is, we can assume there is a hierarchy with Akatosh, The Chief Deity of the Divines, at the top. If this weren't true then it would be chaos among the Daedric Princes as to which plane of oblivion you go to. Having Akatosh, creator of Dovah, always take a Dragonborn's soul clears up the confusion. Not even mentioning the fact that the Dragonborn is literally a piece of Akatosh and that they are foolish in thinking that they can take a piece of Akatosh, again Chief Deity of the Divines and keep it in a plane of Oblivion my point is still valid.
@@villekuronen6242 The thing is that Sithis created the whole universe. No other deity has power over him. You join the Brotherhood, you go to the dude.
You can't complete the questline without becoming a Nightingale. Might have been cool to be able to say, "I'm not taking the oath, I'll fight Mercer as I am." Or a choice to join Mercer and keep the lie that Karliah is the enemy going. But unfortunately, if you want to complete the questline you need to become a nightingale.
That is a really good idea and I wondered the same regarding multiple questlines. Having more choice regarding allegiances or at least presenting some of the factions with more moral ambiguity would have been great.

How bout whether balgruuf is a genius or an idiot? By not pledging allegiance to one side of the war he ensures he doesn’t anger either side or demonise any of his citizens
@RadTheLad I mean to be fair he was pressurised into going into the empire, and its not like he doesn't like Ulfric its that he knows Ulfric doesn't like him, Balgruuf is a very outspoken Nord who cares more about his people than his beliefs because of this if he had to choose between his people and Ulfric he would choose his people everytime. Because of that rather than Ulfric trying to convince Balgruf against the empire decides to sack his city. I mean he is ignorant of things like Nelkir and so on but he isn't an idiot more likely he is just too emotional a person to be in the position of a leader which to be fair he has done a good job of regardless.
@RadTheLad Exactly but what choice does he have? To bend to the possibility that Ulfric will sack him and put a person in charge that nobody will support or even like, I mean Baalgruuf is one of the most liked leaders in skyrim and considering how much influence whiterun has in the war alone it goes to show that he knows what he is doing, you can always keep talos worship undercover and keep your people safe but you cant do that if you aren't Jaarl he had to take the possibility that Ulfric would not win the war and it would be ultimately worse for his subjects. It was the rational decision to join the empire on all fronts.
@RadTheLad well when you first go into ulfrics castle you can overhear a conversation between him and his housecarl ( I don’t remember his name) and he advises ulfric to shove his sword through balgrufs throat. Much like he did with toryg which in my opinion was murder. So the people around ulfric and the stormcloaks were pretty hostile towards whitetun. General tullius even warns balgruf that it looks like ulfric is garrisoning troops against him. And I think that the empire is the only logical army to side with. So I like to think balgruf is an intellectual who chose wisely but remained neutral only to benefit his people.
Jarl Ballin’ is a genius because he made the Dragonborn his thane. I mean, yea he had to hold a dragon in his Hold for a hot minute, but he ensured the ultimate safety of his people.
Pretty sure with my affiliation with a multitude of Aedra and Daedra, my death will cause a Dragon Break, cloning my soul many times so I go to each afterlife. Even Sovngarde despite maining an Argonian.
I really wonder though, is if ever described in the games what happens if a person who has chosen to serve multiple daedric princes dies? Like would the daedra lords fight over your soul (so that the stronger prince will tend to get more souls)? Or would they make a deal with each other like "hey I get this Dragonborn, you get the next Champion of Cyrodiil" or something like that? Or does the person's soul really get sort of split/shattered to pieces so everyone gets a part?
But Nocturnal also says “the contract is fulfilled” So unlike most Nightingales you dont owe anything after you return the key. I would argue it infront of Julianos!
counterpoint: you're dragon born. you make pledges to literally every deity in tamriel. the true end won't come from alduiin, but from your death as every god youve pledged to begin a war the likes of which nirn has never seen. though the skeleton key loses all its thunder because of the lockpicking skill tree makes your lockpicks unbreakable anyway.
These alliegences apply to anyone EXCEPT a drgaon. and pledges or promises they made to any deadrea or anyone become instantly void because akatosh gets claim over your soul after your death from the moment your born since you're basically his creation anyway. Then im not sure on this next bit but im pretty sure he can choose not to take your soul if he doesnt want but even then its still the dragonbrons choice to serve who they see fit in the afterlife.
Karliah: You must offer your soul to Nocturnal to become a Nightengale. Me: Woah there, I didn't agree to sell my soul to the daedra- Karliah: Here's some badass armor. Me: ALL HAIL OUR LADY NOCTURNAL!
I'm pretty sure that would be a mistake on any Daedra princes part. The thing that upsets me the most is being told that we need the power of a nightingale to fight a nightingale but during the process of being made into one Nocturnal says "I make your initiates nightingale and restore your status to the same" which means that Nocturnal had taken away Karliah's and Mercer's nightingale powers. If that's the case then the whole points of selling your eternal soul to gain power equal to Mercer's is entirely pointless. Its only made worse when we make the deal but Nocturnal says we gotta beat Mercer first before we get anything. Talk about backstabbing. Karliah is literally lying through her teeth and is just using you and Brynjolf as a sacrifice to regain her power from Nocturnal. Karliah literally even admits it during her dialogue with Nocturnal boldy right in front of you. Another thing that bugged me was Karliah telling us that we're the first uninitiated people to step foot in the sanctuary in over a century but the quest description says that you're fixing the trinity that was "disrupted over 25 years ago" so if nobody has gone in for over a 100 years how did Gallus, Karliah and Mercer become Nightingales? Are they over 100 years old and being a nightingale also means you don't die from old age or was that just an oversight? Its strange to have Karliah say something like that when the entire questline has been about rebuilding the guild after the last master died a little over 25 to 30 years ago. Taken alone it seems innocent enough but when you think about how Karliah is being weirdly mysterious about the whole thing, even after the secret of Gallus' murder and everything had come to light, it feels more like a manipulative comment on her part to try and bait the Dragonborn and Brynjolf into thinking they're special. My weird feelings of mistrust aren't made any easier by Brynjolf's constant "I think we should trust the lass" idle dialogue.
And with it happening 25 years ago, at most doesnt that makes most of the thieves 40+ years old? So we have a guild of middle age men and women who cant get their shit together. Karliah being constantly mysterious about all of it made me want to poison her a few times and I never trusted her. She shot us cause we was in the way and "saved" us? How. So mercer was going to kill us and then try to fight her froma distance by himself? It makes more sense to have us fight her with him and we never find out the truth. Its so confusing sometimes
Maybe “Why you shouldn’t join the Dawnguard” -Pretty much all the Vampires of Castle Volkihar don’t actually agree with Harkon, yet at the end of the Dawnguard quest you massacre them. -The Dawnguard doesn’t actually help thwart the vampire attacks that happen in the cities. -Many of them refuse to even talk to you if you have become a Vampire at any point during the Dawnguard questline. -They don’t try to cure or help non-evil Vampires who happen to contract the disease.

I heavily disagree with this. I would recommend you listen to Karliah after choosing your agent. First of all spoiler alert. If you haven't done the thieves guild quest and actually listened to the story, do it, its pretty good. Anyways, she explains that Gallus went to the evergloam, and how its more so the "other side" of our world. She explains how those nightengales within the evergloam have influence over the luck and put "their hands in ours". There's WAY more to it than just existing in the evergloam. You watch over everyone and get to influence their luck aka the "shadows" within the land of Tamriel. Sounds pretty cool if you ask me. Its not a life time of servitude to Nocturnal. Your debt gets paid and then you are free to go. As Karliah explains, its "business" not a life sentence. Once you fulfill your transaction, you're free to roam the evergloam and you still get to have influence in Tamriel through the shadow. That's a fair deal to me. As we can see from Galus as well, his term was only 25 years or "quarter of a century" in his words (which is consistent with how long Karliah says she has been on the run), before his debt was paid and he could pass into the evergloam. In the eyes of immortality/forever, not bad. I would reconsider that becoming a nightingale sounds pretty awesome. As Karliah mentions like a hundred times, "You'll be provided all of the power and knowledge befitting a Nightingale. You're free to use those powers as you see fit to further your own goals or the goals of the Thieves Guild." You get to be YOU, just you have to serve for some time or when needed, but otherwise you get a ton of power and knowledge. Its a deal that favors you just as much as Nocturnal.
Thank you. It is like he just skimmed and took the parts that he wanted. Not to mention if we consider all of the other daedric princes Nocturnal is the only one to not want worship befitting her nature. She breaks out of the norms of the other Daedric Princes. At this point she is my favorite one.

I wish the skeleton key would've actually let you do things like open dragon claw doors without the claws and give you a hard stat boost to every skill while it's in your inventory. Would've actually made it an interesting choice instead of being completely nullified by a perk in the lockpicking tree that does the exact same thing.
See for me personally I wish Bethesda would stop doing these ultimatum quest lines where you HAVE to do X in order to obtain Y. They need to make the game more personalized where you can find ways around things. Like for example the blades and paarthunax, you shouldn't be forced to kill him just to keep up the organization, or you shouldn't be forced to become a werewolf just to continue the companion's quest line. Bethesda needs to alter this in ES6 where it would focus more on solving problems based on your own solutions rather than "yeah you have to do this or you'll never ever finish this quest line, sorry pal." It really bothers me that this seems to be the formula they go with for a supposedly RP friendly world. At least the dark brotherhood let's you just murder the guild as an alternative to supporting them, we need more stuff like that, but more creative. Speaking of just murdering the guilds, they should also add a power hungry alternative where you can choose to defy the daedra and syphon their powers rather than only getting daedric powers / artifacts by serving. I would like the ability to slay an actual daedric prince and take his place in my own realm of oblivion, or at least smaller with the ability to take over an entire hold as the new jarl / province leader. AT THE VERY LEAST they need to make it so that when you become the leader of a guild you are actually respected or feared or talked about. I mean if I'm the leader of the mage's guild I shouldn't be gawked at by guards about a few little sparks from my hands; they should respect who I am lol. I would like to see a bit more acknowledgement of status and actions in ES6.
Yep! You just described the biggest problem of the Elder Scrolls: nothing you do matters. You’re nobody and you stay nobody. And the world just doesn’t evolve. I would have loved to see cities expand or get obliterated depending on which side of the war you choose. It’s funny how an ugly old game from the early 2000s called Might and Magic VII does a better job at world building.
They wont, theyll stick to the same formula as usual. Thats why I enjoy playing morrowind with mods, they give you choices. But you can mod skyrim too which is alot better then the base game.
@@jjohnson01 Pretty sure that's true. Dragonborn is Shor, so Lorkhan. Talos is a Shezzarine as well, as in a splinter of the God, that's why that old companion of Tiber Septim confuses us with him and that's why the throne of Sovngarde remains empty.

Honestly I have sold my soul to every god in Skyrim to the point where when my character actually does die, it’s just gonna be a tug of war between celestial beings.
You forgot to mention that if something goes wrong with the place a Nightingale has to guard that screws over Nocturnal's flow of power between her realm and that of the living world, you would slowly lose yourself and go insane until that link is repaired.
You pretty much sell your soul anytime you become something cool in Skyrim. I wonder where the Dragonborn goes when he/she dies. Outside of your claim on Jorvaskr as the Dovahkiin, depending on your life actions, you could end up in Coldharbour, Hircine's Hunting Grounds, or become an Agent of Nocturnal. You can even pledge service to Molag Bal, Meridia, Aura, and Hermaeus Mora. (I probably misspelled all that)
Nocturnal "You are bound to me for life and after your death you will serve me in guarding the Twilight Sepulcher". Me "really, well about that Sithis & Akatosh want me too & so do 15 other Daedric Princes, so hmmm good luck with that".
A nord werewolf dragonborn who has pledged themself to basically every Daedra is honestly the funniest thing. While the Daedra are squabbling over who gets your soul, youre calling daddy Akatosh to pick you up and drop you off at Sovngarde on the weekends
Daedra: you may be stronger than us, but we have HIM. *Sithis appears, Akatosh walks foward* Sithis: Oh? You're approaching me? You could run but you're approaching me. Akatosh: Well, I can't beat the shit out of you without approaching you. Sithis:MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA!! Akatosh:ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA!!
The skeleton key is arguably one of the most powerful artifacts besides the elder scrolls themselves. It can unlock anything, even your mind, as it ihappens in the ESO clockwork DLC. It can litterally unlock anything.
The irony of skeleton key is that you can actually lockpick some norse doors in the game without it. From the game play perspective is just an infinite lockpicking device but you can get such feature from the lockpicking perk tree... So it kinda means that from the game perspective you are a skeleton key in itself :D
Except the Skeleton Key can unlock any door or plane of existence as well. It's not just a physical key, it can get you in and out of any of the realms of oblivion or even sovengard or other realms. From a story perspective its ridiculously powerful with much more use than just physical locks.
Considering you can absorb a shit ton of dragon souls, I always assumed the souls you were "selling" to the Daedric princes were those souls you'd collected. In a way, all the princes you pledge your soul to are still getting their promised soul, just not the Dragonborn's exactly. I saw it the same as Alucard recovers from damage in Hellsing. His physical form takes the shape he desires, but the damage is happening to the souls he's consumed.

Mehrunes Dagon doesn't ask for your soul, only for you to use his dagger and cause mayhem with it. (so basically, have fun using it to kill as many as you can with it)
Boethiah simply wants you to kill as many people as possible, especially her old champion who holds the champions armor and let's you keep it if you succeed until a new champion comes along.
I think, but I'm not sure that Mehrunes Dagon and Boethiah are both children of Sithis and the Night Mother. You start serving Sithis the moment you join the Dark Brotherhood, the souls of the kills you make will be send to the void to serve Sithis.

Quick question, wasn't there a more powerful deity that will 100% claim the dragonborn's soul, regardless of any daedric influence?
Akatosh,he may or may not, for all we know he will let you continue in a reincarnating cycle, maybe reincarnate one or a few times

Akatosh has first dibs always since you have a dragon soul. If he doesn't claim you then its your pick if you want to go to him, your races heaven, or with a deadra or adrea you serve. No one else has the power to lay a hard claim on a dragon's soul.

@Really Bitch but in the end he accepted the empires help. Therefore he can’t be an idiot according to your logic because he did choose a side.

Selling your soul is totally worth hearing Delvin say “you’re the best damn thief in the place!”
Who cares, black briars, thieves guild and nightingales should face eradication
Thank you. It is like he just skimmed and took the parts that he wanted. Not to mention if we consider all of the other daedric princes Nocturnal is the only one to not want worship befitting her nature. She breaks out of the norms of the other Daedric Princes. At this point she is my favorite one.
@IG Westcoast That is called lying. Now if you are doing a playthrough and your character thinks a certain way (for roleplayers) or if you are making a mod (Making the dream yours) and you don't pass it off as lore friendly lest the hounds get released then it is fine.
this is the best comment I've seen here so far
I just thought the armor you get is quite shitty as a reward. Like I was assuming I'd get a sweet no ability but noo.. some fucking armor and a bunch of new chores to do. Fuck the nocturnal.
Lol bethesda making a good game anymore. They lost all of their competence with fallout 4, a boring shell of what could be a great game.
Biggest complaint about the game all in one good paragraph
Yep! You just described the biggest problem of the Elder Scrolls: nothing you do matters. You’re nobody and you stay nobody. And the world just doesn’t evolve. It’s funny how an ugly old game from the early 2000s called Might and Magic VII does a better job at world building.
@Trebonius Flonius I would say Witcher 3,but even then
They wont, theyll stick to the same formula as usual. Thats why I enjoy playing morrowind with mods, they give you choices. But you can mod skyrim too which is alot better then the base game.
I would rather sell my soul to Sanguine or Sheogorath. At least they know how to have fun.
Alcatraz right plus their realms of oblivion are pretty
Yeah Sanguine is cool
There's a theory where the dragonborn is talos who was someone other god and I want to believe that so I can keep being reborn
@@njux1871 I think the throne of sovngarde isn't empty remember when ysgramor or one of the other Nordic heroes said that shor is to bright for mortal eyes to see so he's actually there just not for mortal eyes to see
"Do not join'
My stubborness: (joins) don't tell me what to do
"You're not my mom" hahahah
Nocturnal: Your soul is mine.
Dragonborn: You're not worthy of its power.
Honestly I have sold my soul to every god in Skyrim to the point where when my character actually does die, it’s just gonna be a tug of war between celestial beings.
(Wants Nightingale armor, added mod to craft everything.)
"I stole this status! I'm a strong independent Khajiit who don't need no daedra!"
Haha jokes on Nocturnal, i had my fingers crossed when i promised my soul.
You forgot to mention that if something goes wrong with the place a Nightingale has to guard that screws over Nocturnal's flow of power between her realm and that of the living world, you would slowly lose yourself and go insane until that link is repaired.
I'm absolutely loving the comments on this. Spending eternity in the twilight sepulcher is hardly the worst thing I've ever done to my game avatar...
(I probably misspelled all that)
Ahem the dragonborn belongs to akatosh.
TheButtonMash3r The dragonborn will probaly end up in apocrypah
What if the Dragonborn gets killed by a dragon or another Dragonborn? Will their soul be absorbed?
@@aguynamedatidade HEEEERRREEE WE ARRRREEE!

Nocturnal "You are bound to me for life and after your death you will serve me in guarding the Twilight Sepulcher".
Me "really, well about that Sithis & Akatosh want me too & so do 15 other Daedric Princes, so hmmm good luck with that".
Akatosh trumps over in the end since Sithis is AFK forever
A nord werewolf dragonborn who has pledged themself to basically every Daedra is honestly the funniest thing.
While the Daedra are squabbling over who gets your soul, youre calling daddy Akatosh to pick you up and drop you off at Sovngarde on the weekends
All daedra: “ your soul belongs to me
Akatosh: “no it’s mine
Epic battle happens
Sithis just eats the dragonborn: Shut up. He joined my super secret murder club. That means I own him
Daedra: you may be stronger than us, but we have HIM.
*Sithis appears, Akatosh walks foward*
Sithis: Oh?
