  • Following the example of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the British forces founded the first radio symphony orchestra in Hamburg in 1945 - today's NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester. Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt becomes the first Chief Conductor. The first soloist to be won is none other than Yehudi Menuhin.
