  • In today's video we have a continuation from last video. We start out working with irrigation pipe but then later head out to the Briggs Blues Festival which is only about a mile from our farm to sell roasted sweet corn. We had a blast meeting lots of new people and listening to great music. The big headliner on July 9th was Kenny Wayne Shepard and after he was done and the night was about over we had a special guest at our stand... THE VEGGIE BOYS and GIRLS showed up to show their support!

    Looks like it was a fun time, especially getting photobombed by Andrew lol! For the irrigation, I would suggest putting a shutoff at the bottom of each Riser. Before you turn on all the rainbirds for the first time, shut off all of the risers and pull the plug at the very end of line. Turn on your pump and flush everything through the lines until it runs clear. Then you can plug the end and turn on whatever risers you want. A few dollars for shut-offs will save a lot of headaches from plugged lines in the long run, plus you can water in zones. Good luck!

      Great idea!! Thanks so much for watching 😃

    • @joshuakleinsasser3949
      @joshuakleinsasser3949 2 года назад

      U really don't need the shut off, just rinse the lines

    • @dugel3
      @dugel3 2 года назад

      Joshua,true, shut offs are not needed, but they will serve several benefits. The Broyans do not have enough pressure to run all of the rain birds at once, so they plug half the holes and put rainbirds in the other half and then switch later. If they put shut offs below all the rain birds risers and get enough to do every hole, then they can just turn off the ones they don't need to use. Also if they shut off all of the rain birds and run water through the line prior to using it, it will have better pressure to flush any debris in the line out. Currently bits of debris are going up the risers and clogging the rain birds. Please don't think I am trying to dispute your reply. But these guys are a hard-working family trying to run a commercial vegetable farm. Anything you can do to save a little time will help improve your bottom line in the end and this is a small investment that will pay for itself quickly. I ran a vegetable farm for over 40 years, and there never seems to be enough time to get everything done LOL

    • @HalbertS-wt5hr
      @HalbertS-wt5hr 2 года назад

      @@dugel3 Quite a few variables here. If the line is sloped down hill the water (and any debris) is less likely to move up into the risers. If the line is running uphill water may start to move up to the nozzles before reaching the end of the line. The valve idea only saves labor if you assume he has sufficient number of risers and sprinklers to fill the entire line. It makes me nervous to see him screwing the risers in and out of the pipe so many times; eventually someone will bug up the threads in the pipe coupler and then you have a bigger problem. By adding a valve or some other coupling or bushing at least you're not screwing directly into the aluminum pipe.
      One thing for sure, IMO, you should ALWAYS flush the line with the end cap removed if the pipe has been stored or left uncoupled for an extended period of time. I've seen small rabbits and woodchuck enter the pipe when it's lying around on the ground. You can't be in a rush the first time you drag the pipe out.

    Oh, You got to love it when the mice guts come out of the nozzle. P. U.
    We always ran water through the pipe as we set the line. So it would flush the pipe out. An other tip. Be careful not to drop the pipe down. The shock will crack the riser pipe. Later as the rain bird tapes, the pipe will brake off. Then you will have a geyser.

Adding the corn to boiling water containing a cup of King Syrup and handful of salt. Removed it with aluminum corn shovels to a row of serving tables for the Festival attendees to select their steaming ears.

    Just west of you one State, we would called this steamed corn not roast. Roast corn here, we put the corn in the husk in a water trough for about 2 to 3 hours. Then shake out the water and put the corn on a grate over a charcoal or wood fire, wait for the husk to dry and become a bit brown to black after turning then it is done. The burned bits if not black become sweeter.
