Rules explanation left it unclear: Chieftan victory condition does not require one territory with 6 other player units. You can win if you are Chieftan in multiple territories and total amount of other player units you rule are 6.
I think that slight rule tweak would have really changed the dynamics of the game because there would have been a lot more mutually beneficial scenarios created and more situations where a peaceful resolve to clashes makes sense.
Great play through! Seems like you guys thought you had be chieftain over six opposing clans in one territory. You can just count up all opposing clans in the territories where you are chieftain to meet the victory condition. Makes that victory condition quite a lot more flexible
Hi. Great to see a game like this played with such good quality video and audio and players who seem very much themselves in front of the camera. I especially enjoy that you take time after playing the game to think about it a little more and to understand what you just did and what you liked and disliked about the game based on that playthrough. I think it elevates the playthrough above that of others. Well done and game on.
I'm so glad to see a full play through of this game; I've been on the fence about it for so long. At the beginning I was completely into it and thought that I should go buy a copy, but by the end I realised that for me, while I'd still like to play it, it wouldn't get more than a few plays with my group. Thank you!
Lincoln meet a win condition at 1:18:33 The rules state: Add up the total number of opposing clans in territories where the player is chieftan. If there are six or more the player has met a victory condition.
Isn't he only chieftain in one of them? It looks like he left the Hills as a 4/4 tie. The real error was keeping the card for the Hills 2 minutes after that I believe.
And between the two he's chieftain in there are only two opposing clans. Watching on he does meet the win condition at 1:27:23 when he places another clan in the Hills though. And then flat out has 6 in the Hills when Nikki placed 2 more there at 1:31:20. It seems in concerning themselves with the 6 territories win condition they completely forgot about that one.
Great episode! What I enjoy the most about the show is both the ease of watching game play and the variety of player behaviors. Other than Tabletop, I have yet to find another show that pops visually with solid editing and great audio...and imagine the budget differences between the 2 shows! After reading the comments, I don't believe some people realize that these behaviors, whether you find them rude, aggressive, "quarterbacking", etc., are no different than most gaming groups and/or families that play regularly. Also, I enjoy the inclusion of females into the episodes (much like Tabletop). I do not know any of the GameNight members, but making generalizations about their lives and what kind of people they are (previous comments) is obnoxious and hypocritical at the same time. A person that has to point out generalizations about others doesn't want anyone to be happy and must be self-conscious about their own lives. The addition of Stephanie brings energy to the show and here's to many more episodes for her! I watch because I don't want boring, I want legitimate interactions and game play to decide on whether or not to purchase the game for my own group. Keep it going GameNight crew!
Thank you for watching and commenting, Kim. I really appreciate your support. Like you mentioned, we are all humans and subject to the same emotions that other humans have while playing games like this, often for the first time. There was some irritation there, but it was mild and quickly forgotten. I love all of the GN crew, and I am glad and honored to be a part of it. :)
Great post! I've played this game once with 2p and had a lukewarm experience with it. Afterwards, I wasn't sure when and if i would want to play again, but this Game Night post really showcased the game's clever strategies and fun potential. Now, I cant wait to get this game back to the table!
This is one of my favorite games and it’s one that got me into board gaming. This is definitely one of the bigger maps I’ve seen during inis. You really spread out! Nice had some games really just build up and battle within a board half this size. Part of what I love is how different this game is depending on who plays and what’s drafted.

Thank you for featuring this game! My friends and I have played it once so far, but we were having trouble wrapping our head around clashes. Your video helped out a lot. It was fun to watch, too!
this is a great game. I felt the same way after first play. Many interesting ideas, love the drafting mechanism, the epic cards were cool but maybe not so cool as I thought...but after more playing the game feels better. It has become my favorite game of 2016.
Have seen all your videos and look forward to them! Appreciate the work and time you all put in. For me though this video sticks out from every other video. Don't know if it was the game but it was a very awkward and uncomfortable watch.
I think its stephanie attempt at humour/interpersonal skills & there's subtle rules by the looks of it that can cause irritation when steps aren't followed

Stephanie Straw It's more fun that way. My game group purposely plays as mean and as possible with each other as a joke lol. This was more entertaining with the interactions. It's all in good fun.
I agree this is a fun way to play. We alternate depending on the personalities at the table. We tend to go gentler mostly with games that have player elimination and one of the group may be sitting out for too long.
this game looks fantastic I will definitely be picking it up. I love the intense tug of war you guys were talking about. I dont get all the hate towards stephanie in the comments this is a very good in your face back and forth game and trying to put your opponents on tilt or make deals with people is a good strategy. side note Lincoln missed an opportunity when he attacked both the girls, Stephanie was out of cards and had one fighter left in the area attacking her was a free way to get rid of that with no repercussions.
Marco Curvello About 1:13:00 - the quote given I don’t hear: I see Dave explaining his opinion, Stephanie 'mouths' "deflecting" and only then I hear "…don't know me," from Dave. It was a heated discussion - in a heated game - with people talking over one another. And, possibly germane to this discussion is Stephanie's comment elsewhere that this was her first time meeting/playing Dave. It’s sad that this has all overshadowed the point of the video. Some people are far too sensitive and easily critical in these comments. Yawn 😱 Edit: actually just before the timestamp I gave - during the 'who's in last place' discussion.
I have wached seasons seven to four and I have to say you are doing amazing work guys. I started watching this episode and I was really interested in this game but I am sorry to say than Stephanie killed it for me. The hole episode was kinda akward but then again what do I know. Looking forward to season 9 guys.
It's super hard to attack in this game, everyone battling get's exhausted so hard and the players that are not involved in the battle really get and advantage, so you need to be careful and think when to do it, i love it, this game it's so simple and complex at the same time, once you have an idea on the effects of all the green cards you can start doing a lot of planning.
Nikki was supposed to return her Pretender token when she didn't meet the win condition the first time. She can't just hang on to it after getting one if she ends up not winning. She would have had to reacquire a new Pretender token again, spending an action to do so, before the final turn was done.
Entertaining play through! And thanks for doing this game! I don't think it's my flavor, so I'm very grateful to see this one done if only to avoid. Still a fun video to watch!
Don't really understand the negative comments. I've watched this video more times than any other GameNight (I love Inis) and I've never seen it as hostile. It seems like people are enjoying themselves. It's long but entertaining.
Dave is such a leg end! “How do you want me to deal?” “Quickly [and preferably quietly]!” hahaha. Stephanie was so annoying this episode... and guys, when playing a game like this you have to be at least a little ‘take that’ and enjoy it...
Hope you all had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year for 2017. I managed to get to play my Extra Life prize over Christmas and had lots of fun with some friends, who I'm slowly turning into gamers.
I'd be more likely to play Inis Legacy than Inis I think. Game looks good though, just doubt I'd get it to the table more than once with my group. If this were at a convention, I'd play it
A lot of people had issues with the behavior in this episode and I really don't get it. I think games with a little tension make for memorable ones. Also Inis looks pretty fun, I might look into it.
They were playing as though the win condition for being chieftain over 6 other clans requires that all the clans be in the same territory... I was under the impression that you could, in theory, be chieftain in any number of territories with a grand total of 6 other clans under your control spread among the territories to win. In other words, if you're chieftain in two territories, and in territory one there are 4 other clans and in territory two there are two other clans, that would suffice. Or did I miss something?
From the Inis rulebook: Chieftain over Six or More Opposing Clans: Add up the total number of opposing clans in territories where the player is chieftain. If there are six or more, the player has met a victory condition. So yes, it doesn't HAVE to be one territory, it could be multiple.
You got a major rule wrong. 1:38:25 Lincoln could have gotten a pretender token here for being chieftain over 6 opposing clans. And, from the looks of things, could have won the game here probably. (check the board state at 1:41:09 which is at the next assembly phase) I feel you explained this rule wrong- this victory condition doesn't need to happen in a single territory, but can be spread out over multiple teritorries. The rules explanation at the beginnning was kinda chaotic I feel, but I didn't notice many mistakes save for this major one. Other than that, I liked the video.. I was actually looking for some advanced players playing the game but yours was entertaining nevertheless. Most of you guys seemed to be having fun which was fun for me to watch :)
This game REQUIRES you to be aggressive! I have played it a bunch and I find the most aggressive player always ends up being the winner. By slaughtering other players clans it limits their presence and influence on the board and that is what leads to a victory!
Im on the fence with this game. It looks like something I would enjoy but I hate king making as much as Steph. By the end of game banter it looks like Lincoln and Dave are both interested in playing again while Steph and Nicky are not, is this accurate? Have any of you got to play more and what are your ammended thoughts? Love the show and thx!
Roger Reisinger I would play it again. There aren't many games I wouldn't. But if the last 5 minute point scramble happens again, it's probably not the game for me to play a lot of. Not many games get that right for me. Kemet is one of them. While this reminded me of Kemet, I think I would prefer to play Kemet because I think it's more open and honest about being aggressive. The aggression in Inis snuck up on me, and I wasn't expecting it.
At 50:08 when Stephanie attacks Dave for the second time, Dave withdraws to an adjacent territory. Isn't this incorrect? When you are attacked you must discard an Action card or remove a clan. Since Dave had no action cards he should have removed his clan to his reserve, right? Even so, Dave withdrew to a territory where he was not Chieftain.
@@Chris-ro2pu No, but from the rules : The attacked player chooses one option: Discard an Action Card: The attacked player chooses an Action card in his hand and discards it with no effect. Remove an Exposed Clan: The attacked player takes one of his engaged clans and returns it to his reserve. If the attacked player does not have any Action cards, he has no choice but to remove an exposed clan. Withdraw: The player moves one or more of his exposed clans to adjacent territories where he is the chieftain. The Withdraw maneuver does not initiate another clash. If a player is not the chieftain of any adjacent territories, he cannot choose to perform this manuever.
at 1:17:45 Nikki should have attacked Stephanie since Lincoln didn't want to fight. And on Lincolns turn Nikki and Lincoln could have stopped the clash. Nikki would not of lost presence from 4 to 3 tiles. Steph was being a stick in the mud. Also Isn't the chief over 6 clans victory mean you are the chief over 6 clans and they don't all have to be in the same tile. So at that same time stamp Lincoln would be chief over three clans in the vale and adding 1 more to the hills he would rule over 4 making him at 7 clans and winning?
At whose house or at what location do you film these episodes? Has everyone played this again since the filming and has their opinion changed or been reinforced?
Good runthrough. I sure wish this art... well, the card art... were tied to a better design. For me this game just plays like some sort of cul-de-sac that we've finally encountered in the recent pursuit of the perfect "hybrid." Not so much a gamer's game as a hybrid gamer's game, which I'm not sure has as much appeal as I probably would have thought two or three years ago.
I'm truly not a fan of 5 player games for the show. We do them, particularly for the Spiel des Jahres nominees, but for me they can make the show too long and a little more chaotic with the crosstalk. I hope you understand. Thanks for the note and for watching.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I do think, like with a lot of "armies on a map" type of games, there can be some king making. It's sort of a scramble at the end, and it's unpredictable who will come out on top. Although, we didn't play it 100% correctly, so things could have been different had we done so.
I disagree that she had the least idea of what she was doing. Nikki P. has a pretty good track record for winning. She asks questions to calculate her best move and I personally appreciate those questions to understand the game mechanics.
Stephanie and Aaron in the same table... hohoho... it would be a blast! I think that you guys should pick the players with in mind the type of game. Try to not pick Nicky in the mean games...
The Stone Circle is really good as you can keep using a powerful epic tale card. The Forest is nice, but you could use something great and get something a bit pointless. And yeah as stated elsewhere you're playing the subjugation victory condition wrong.
Are they playing the first win condition correctly? Shouldn't Lincoln have enough chieftan over clans to win earlier in the game. It's over clans in general correct? All 6 clans don't have to be under a single chieftain?
Joshua Ogle there was a supply issue so all English copies were sent to the US, there is now finally stock in the U.K. I got mine the other day. You should be able to buy a copy now.
Why draft? It seems like the draft is essentially 4 people shuffling the deck at once, and at the end the cards are already dealt. I guess it could potentially group like cards or complimentary cards together but it could be just random too. If no one looked at the cards would it really end up any different?
1) I assume Stephanie is already very familiar with this game? 2) I assume Stephanie is in fact Lincoln's sister? 3) Do Stephanie and Nikki share their hair color? Nice shout out to The Odd Couple at 1:57:30
It was Stephanie's first play. Stephanie is not my sister but I love her like one. Nikki and Stephanie do not share hair color but it could be cool if they colored their hair at the same time. Stephanie is very good at it.
It frustrates me when Dave does the pedantic, "you have to deal anti clockwise, but you can deal 4 at a time theyre random it doesnt matter", "wait nicki it's not your turn, i could move in to a citedel if I wanted to, but there isn't one there so now it's your turn" stuff
The drafting is wrong. The rules say: 1. Each player looks at his four Action cards, chooses one to hold, and passes the other three to the next player, as indicated by the Flock of Crows token. 2. Next, each player adds the one card he held to the three cards passed to him. He looks at all four Action cards, chooses two to hold, and passes the other two to the next player. 3. Finally, each player adds the two cards he held to the two cards passed to him. He looks at all four Action cards, chooses three to hold, and passes the other one to the next player. At the end of the Assembly phase, each player has four Action cards in hand and maybe some Advantage and Epic Tale cards.
At the 1:56 mark, did Stephanie place the new territory incorrectly? I believe new territories must be placed such that they are adjacent to EXACTLY TWO other territories (at least it says that specifically about initial setup). She places it next to three. I don't think this affected gameplay or the outcome, but a lot of people watch these videos to get a firm handle of the rules and I wanted to clarify. Or do new territories only have to be adjacent to exactly two during initial setup?
I hope I don't come across as critical... I just know I (and many others) watch you guys to get a firm grasp of the rules in many instances. So if there's an error, I just want people to know, even if it's a minor thing. I'm not sure if territories can be placed in any orientation after initial setup... I just want to point out the possible error for clarification. Great show!
Get Ready for Game Night! Oh no. We all want to get it right, too. We make great effort to do so, but we don't always interpret the rules appropriately, or we make mistakes in scoring or gameplay. It does happen, and we appreciate you helping to make it an accurate tool for teaching! :)
In the Inis rulebook under territories: TERRITORIES A new territory is always placed adjacent to at least two territories. When a new territory is placed, its matching Advantage card is taken from the Advantage deck and placed faceup by the play area. At least two. It could mean 2, 3 or more, just not 1 to make the map a straight line. It also ensures that there are at least two paths into a territory.
First time I'm watching the show. I dig it. One complaint: Dave comes of a little condescending. Made me cringe a bit, specifically at the beginning when he was just pushing on Nikki.
Seen until minute 52 and it is so awsome how this girl with blue hair destroyes Dave (that only want to annoy people) in every level :) I love this girl and Lincon so much
Agreed. You can say all you want about her attitude in this one. But she defnitely took it to Dave, where he usually is the dominant one. Both in gameplay as in knowing the rules.
@TheRavenOfficialGR the reason Stephanie killed it for you was probably due to the fact she was the only one (no offense intended to the others) actually trying to play the game as it was intended to be played. You really can't play this game, or tactical/strategy 'warlike games' in general, with a 'let's be nice to each other" mentality. War is hell...dig in and leave your tender feelings at the door.
I've made it 40 minutes into this playthrough, but it's so uncomfortable, I am not enjoying watching it, so I think I'll leave it. It's a shame. GameNight is usually fun to watch, but there seems to be a lot of personal tension in this one, and that's no fun. It would be great to see this game replayed.
I’m not sure why she had to keep asking questions so much. People get so confused in this game and it’s like the most straightforward game there is. The cards say EXACTLY what to do, and when to do them. The player reference card says exactly how a battle works and it’s very simple.. attack, remove a guy or a card.. what is so confusing for people?? Lol
I failed to see how the name had anything to do with it. Did they just pick an Irish word at random? Or was this supposed to be an island that was growing?

this game looks fantastic I will definitely be picking it up. I love the intense tug of war you guys were talking about. I dont get all the hate towards stephanie in the comments this is a very good in your face back and forth game and trying to put your opponents on tilt or make deals with people is a good strategy. side note Lincoln missed an opportunity when he attacked both the girls, Stephanie was out of cards and had one fighter left in the area attacking her was a free way to get rid of that with no repercussions.
what an amazing, interesting gameplay! Thanks for all the footage, such a great video to see~ The drafting phrase in this game is well thought
And... there is no soft in that, there was a moment that Dave was angry... "if you think that, you don't know me at all"... man... XD
Rafael Borges when?
Marco Curvello About 1:13:00 - the quote given I don’t hear: I see Dave explaining his opinion, Stephanie 'mouths' "deflecting" and only then I hear "…don't know me," from Dave. It was a heated discussion - in a heated game - with people talking over one another. And, possibly germane to this discussion is Stephanie's comment elsewhere that this was her first time meeting/playing Dave.
It’s sad that this has all overshadowed the point of the video. Some people are far too sensitive and easily critical in these comments. Yawn 😱
Edit: actually just before the timestamp I gave - during the 'who's in last place' discussion.
There is absolutely no last player advantage in Inis :D It's specifically designed around that both with the winner token AND passing.
lol, I think is see some of the dynamics we bantered about at the conference! 4 years later, hoping to get this game to the table soon.
hmmm... after some time researching a new game to get, this one might be it over wingspan !
great content @boardgamegeek
She would have had to reacquire a new Pretender token again, spending an action to do so, before the final turn was done.
ah ... the PUNS, THE PUNS ... love them :D
(It's Kiprijanovski - this is my gaming account :D )
Cheers and happy holidays GAMENIGHT! :D
Would love to do a game night with this group. They all have my kind of sense of humor and don't take the game too serious.
I'd be more likely to play Inis Legacy than Inis I think. Game looks good though, just doubt I'd get it to the table more than once with my group.
If this were at a convention, I'd play it
Inis legacy?!?! Whaaaaaa?!?!?!?!
Oh my gosh, those drinking glasses are gloriously big! Fun gameplay! Just subbed and very much enjoyed!
A lot of people had issues with the behavior in this episode and I really don't get it. I think games with a little tension make for memorable ones. Also Inis looks pretty fun, I might look into it.
Totally unrelated, but love the James Bond books!
I love the covers of those editions. And they look great on the shelf. Take care. -Lincoln
Get Ready for Game Night! We will have to check on this, too. Thank you for watching and paying attention! :)
From the Inis rulebook:
Chieftain over Six or More Opposing Clans: Add up the total number of opposing clans in territories where the player is chieftain. If there are six or more, the player has met a victory condition.
So yes, it doesn't HAVE to be one territory, it could be multiple.
Get Ready for Game Night! Probably why the game took much longer
Awesome game. Looks really interesting
You got a major rule wrong.
1:38:25 Lincoln could have gotten a pretender token here for being chieftain over 6 opposing clans. And, from the looks of things, could have won the game here probably. (check the board state at 1:41:09 which is at the next assembly phase)
I feel you explained this rule wrong- this victory condition doesn't need to happen in a single territory, but can be spread out over multiple teritorries.
Jan Kryštovský i was just looking that up myself and you are correct!
Hooked on your channel in under 25 seconds.
It'd probably help if they actually played by the real rules first ...
I was thinking the same thing! Did you ever get an answer on this?
@@Chris-ro2pu No, but from the rules :
The attacked player chooses one option:
Discard an Action Card: The attacked player chooses an Action card in his hand and discards it with no effect.
It would be nice to see some 5 player games.
I'm truly not a fan of 5 player games for the show. We do them, particularly for the Spiel des Jahres nominees, but for me they can make the show too long and a little more chaotic with the crosstalk. I hope you understand.
Thanks for the note and for watching.
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that the person who had the least idea of what they were doing, won?
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I do think, like with a lot of "armies on a map" type of games, there can be some king making. It's sort of a scramble at the end, and it's unpredictable who will come out on top. Although, we didn't play it 100% correctly, so things could have been different had we done so.
I disagree that she had the least idea of what she was doing. Nikki P. has a pretty good track record for winning. She asks questions to calculate her best move and I personally appreciate those questions to understand the game mechanics.
Stephanie, you rock. :) Ignore the haters!
thanks for the video
in your opinion, how does it play with 2 players ?
It's great. The onus is on you to prevent your opponent from taking the game. No chance for kingmaking blame.
Jesus that girl with the grey purple hair is why people need to sleeve cards!!!!!!
Stephanie and Aaron in the same table... hohoho... it would be a blast! I think that you guys should pick the players with in mind the type of game. Try to not pick Nicky in the mean games...
This game is interesting because the victory conditions are not readily apparent.
I come for the game I stay for the passive agressive exchanges
I really, really want this game. Any idea where/when I can get it in the UK?
Joshua Ogle there was a supply issue so all English copies were sent to the US, there is now finally stock in the U.K. I got mine the other day. You should be able to buy a copy now.
Why draft? It seems like the draft is essentially 4 people shuffling the deck at once, and at the end the cards are already dealt.
I guess it could potentially group like cards or complimentary cards together but it could be just random too. If no one looked at the cards would it really end up any different?
Channel+ Drafting is about picking the cards you want, not about randomizing them.
It's funny watching people who aren't used to playing direct conflict games. They get so offended ...
William Buchanan lol I know right! These euro players need to enjoy themselves!
Thankish!
Heelzz exactly!! I assume he does that to make the rules clearer to the viewers, but it just pisses me off.
Why did Lincoln not not become bren at the start of round 1?
Klaus Ole Kristiansen - The rules say to give it to a random player. It is done before placing clans on the board.
But after that, you do the assembly phase where the bren gets reassigned if appropriate.
No, on other rounds yes.
@@Subangelis why only on other rounds? After setup, you do an Assembly Phase and assign the Bren. He should have been Bren on turn 1.
@@Subangelis boardgamegeek.com/thread/1746230/question-about-brenn-after-initial-set
I kept watching because of the opening pun
Nikki wasn't playing with blue! Nikki always plays with blue. Well...
SPOILERS
I guess it worked out for her
The drafting is wrong. The rules say:
Get Ready for Game Night! Hmm. This was so long ago (4 months ago). So we will have to check on that. Thank you for watching.
In the Inis rulebook under territories:
TERRITORIES
A new territory is always placed adjacent to at least two territories. When a new territory is placed, its matching Advantage card is taken from the Advantage deck and placed faceup by the play area.
At least two. It could mean 2, 3 or more, just not 1 to make the map a straight line. It also ensures that there are at least two paths into a territory.
Rulebook can be found here:

First time I'm watching the show. I dig it. One complaint: Dave comes of a little condescending. Made me cringe a bit, specifically at the beginning when he was just pushing on Nikki.
Thanks for clearing that up, Lincoln.
That happens all the time between those two ...
Both in gameplay as in knowing the rules.
so where is the hidden H?
someone keeps on looking at someone else's hand of cards.
Quit being a troll, Dave!
@@dustinboatman6134 10 upvotes, sounds like others saw it.
@@maxwellschultz4784 Wow, what a weird comment to dig up after 3 years. Dave is my friend personally and I was messing with him.
@@dustinboatman6134 I didn't dig anything. It's brand new to me.
@@maxwellschultz4784 New or not, it still says "3 years ago" next to it.
@6:00 Do the rules really not say "deosil" and "widdershins"? I feel like an opportunity was lost.
Would you say that Stephanie was the Bren-winner?
1:23:34 , the blue haired lady gives a *serious dude?* to the long haired dude, but the error was from the other guy, so, what gives?
The Glen Coco reference..
Shouldn't you discard the yellow cards facedown?
Seems like everyone was in a bad mood for this one. I stopped watching.
This game really pi**ing people off. You tell during this game.
I liked Stephanie's banter a lot. I'd like to see her more on this show, especially in games with take that element.
Interestingly, INIS stands for Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service
I enjoyed the episode overall, but found Stephanie quite obnoxious.
This game got a little catty didn't it
I've made it 40 minutes into this playthrough, but it's so uncomfortable, I am not enjoying watching it, so I think I'll leave it.
The clans are new to the island. It represents exploration of the island and creating territories.
