    I used to be a stylist in midtown for a hair loss company. My best friend and coworker then was named Santa P. and she told me of good friend of hers who was a super talented stylist named Diiickey ( her cute Domincan accent lol.) I've since moved to L.A. and have lost touch with her unfortunately but was happy to find you here on YT. If ever you hear from her please let me know, I could leave you my contact. I hope this message finds you well, thank you.

    I love these videos. I saw your method years ago, but didn’t follow it correctly. Recently, I revisited the wash and go video and figured out what I was doing wrong. Now, my hair is moisturized and bouncy. I am a type 4A tight spiral curls.

    I'm so glad that you've explained that. I explained heat damage a billion times and they always come for me. LOL no matter how many times I say that the terminology used "heat damage" does not necessarily mean that the hair itself is damaged, people get mad. The natural curl pattern may be altered, but that does not mean the overall health of the hair is bad. Unless you want and wear your hair curly, the answer isn't always chop it off. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

    • @JoyDejaKing
      @JoyDejaKing 6 лет назад +11

      JoAnna Johnson Isn’t it amazing how people can hear the same thing and come up with a different interpretation. Because from what I understood Dickey to say, heat damage is a form of damage, there are just different levels. If your curl pattern is altered or has lots of straight pieces mixed with your true curly texture, that’s damage. Or like Dickey said, one day you go to the hairdresser and have silky straight hair but then next week it won’t go back to it’s natural texture, again that’s damage. Unless you’re purposely trying to alter your curl pattern, no one wants hair that won’t revert to it’s natural state. But as always, Dickey is correct, nothing is wrong with heat if used properly.

    • @JoAnnaTheSoulStringerJohnson
      @JoAnnaTheSoulStringerJohnson 6 лет назад

      Joy Deja King I didn't find anything here said to need interpreting. It was pretty clear. But I do agree people will try to make things fit their needs. Sometimes things are exactly as stated. No need for interpretation.

    To piggyback off that question: am I vulnerable to any type of hair damage (whether its heat or from over manipulation) if I blowdry with a comb attachment, every day after a wash and go? I'm a type 4C. I'd be doing this to stretch it out a bit, tie it into a ponytail as a protective style and then put on a wig.

    Thank you for explaining. I ordered a hooded dryer online months ago and I have yet to use it because I was unsure if I could damage my hair. I’m currently trying to get rid of incomplete splits from TENSION blow drying my hair last summer. Thanks

    How can a type 4 do daily wash and go styling and still retain length? Will the daily finger detangling and styling be too much manipulation for the fragile strands?

    • @jlwachara
      @jlwachara 5 лет назад +25

      flythang14 from my experience, daily cowashing has made my type 4c hair so soft, that finger detangling is so easy and I do not have damage from it. I’m not a professional but I have struggled with my hair for 13years until I started following Dickey’s advice. I would advice trying it for a week or two and then making a decision based on how your hair responds. Best wishes on your hair journey!

    I followed this method 2 years ago. I had the best wash and go's I ever had until my hair became limp, could no longer hold a curl, and frizzed up like crazy after every wash. My hair type is 3c, high density, medium strands.
    I would like to know how this could have happened. I want to give the method another go, but I don't want to make the same mistakes.

    Hi Dicky,
    I have a question about styling hair in the winter months. I understand as you previously stated that in the winter months you can do your wash-and-go in the evening, but for someone like myself who work long hours in a day, doing wash-and -go’s is not practical especially if you have a very early start (5:00am daily). Would you advise for the winter months blow drying once a week? I have fine, type4. Thank you in advance.

    • @AqsoulX
      @AqsoulX 6 лет назад +1

      essiegue I have type 4 thick low porosity hair. I’m so lazy because I work 12 hour shifts and tired. What I do when it’s hot and for winter is the same technique just different products. I do my wash and go at night put it in a high pineapple and go to bed with 2 silk scarves and a cotton t-shirt around my pillow. The next morning I shake and go. I’m good for the entire week.

    Hi Dickey, I like to first thank you for all your help in enabling us to correctly take care of our natural hair.
    I, thanks to you showing the chart, found I am a 3A type hair. Dry, my hair is thick, soft and curly, wet it is thin, flat and curly. I want to do wash and goes that will allow movement with volume (I hope I am saying that correctly), can you tell me what I need and how often I need to do, to achieve this? Or is this even achievable for my hair type?
    Thank you soooooooo much,
    Sha'ron
    PS: I Plan to use your products, TMH willing, but right now I have to use the store brands. So if you will, please let me what I can use now and what I should use from Hair Rules when I am able to afford. Thank you

    Dickey I've seen you set your 4 type under a hooded dryer then use the hand held dryer to stretch for length how often should a 4c wash and go girl use the hand held dryer in the course of the week since you mentioned 4 have to wet and condition more often than other hair types

      I think he made a video answering this question. I believe he recommended every 2 weeks, no more often than that. Also, I can speak from indirect experience. My mother has always had a thick head of hair and she used to press her hair every 2 weeks for many many years before decided to just wear her kinks as is a few years ago.

      I have a mix of 3bc hair. It’s a process for me to reduce damage. I sit under a hooded dryer with curlformers to help loosen my natural curl pattern. I use a very light spray in heat protector and leave in, my saviour is hair grease. Blue magic or Dax are my favourite. Once my hair is dry, I’ll now use the straightener at a lower heat level. The grease truly helps keep moisture in after washing or co-washing and protect my ends.
      When I wear my hair curly then I switch over to curl creams/smoothies and hair gel. Smooth over and break the cast with Maiga’s Shea Butter Olive Oil or their Shea Butter Cocoa Butter mix.
      I guess for myself, always having that small layer of oil on my strands is truly helpful.
