She deserved this so much! To me she made the movie Ghost. It would not be anywhere as good if Whoopi wasn't it. She's so genuinely excited, it's touching, i agree.

I'm sure a million people have already said this, but Whoppi should have gotten a Best Actress Award for "The Color Purple" That's when she showed her true range. From beaten-down farm-wife to knife-weilding, hex-putting-on-heroine. I'll always consider Shug and Celie as two of my personal literary heroines.

She was so glorious in Ghost. There aren’t any movies quite like it. I’ve been watching it more lately… oh I laughed so hard! But those laughs made the deep emotion of it hit so much more. I’m a grown man and a combat veteran and I’m not ashamed I cry so hard at the end. It really is the most beautiful movie ❤️
My dad loved the movie "Ghost" for one reason: "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers was in it. The song was played at his funeral in May 2021. Even though Dad's gone, I think his spirit is still here.
Whoopi's performance is what soley propelled Ghost into higher levels. None of the other films that year had one great performance that really MADE the movie.
I just love her enthusiasm… simpler times when you could be excited and the internet wasn’t trolling you for being pompous or disrespectful! This was a great accomplishment and she deserved to be excited!!!

I agree, she wasn't a supporting actress at all really, it was them 3, and I think she stood out over Demi even as a "supporting actress". Demi was actually the supporting actress in that movie. It was all Patrick and Whoopi. I think that's why she won, because she was more the lead actress getting nominated for a supporting role, standing out in the movie much more than the others.
@@eolsunder Honestly, I don´t in *ANY* way see how she deserved an Oscar for that role. We are talking about a price that should be given for an extraordinary acting performance i.e. like when Lupita Nyong'o won in 2014 for her role in "12 years a slave" where her acting performance was just extremely good. Yeah, Whoopie was quite funny in the movie, but an Oscar? In my opinion her Oscar for "Ghost" is just as fucked up as Cuba Gooding Jr.´s Oscar for Jerry Maguire. Giving Whoopie Goldberg an Oscar for her performance in "Ghost" just totally degrades the value of an Oscar.
Loved her acceptance speech, excited, thanked all and then exited the stage, unlike the dramas we see from few others.

This is why the reason she won was because the Academy felt bad about The Colour Purple.
Back when Ghost was released, it was a huge critical and box office hit and Whoopi was the Big stand out in the movie. I think she won because at that time it felt right to give it to her for such a successful film. But now in hindsight, today’s Academy members probably would have picked Benning or Bracco.

Jeremy Irons won Best Actor that same year. Then just three years later, they co-starred in The Lion King.
if you didn´t notice that whoopi at those years was just the second black woman to win the oscar (next to the first who was hattie mcdaniel), there were an enormous diference of years(51 years)between them there werent any other black woman that won the oscar at that period of time, besides both of them won in the category of best actress in a supporting role not in the category of best actress when whoopi should have won for the color purple and nowdays the academy only give oscars to the black women in the category of support,also they are only nominnated one and as maximum 2 times in their carrer.I would like the academy was open-minded and fair particulary to black women.

Unfair. Anjelica Houston has a kind of stern looking face anyway. She was probably disappointed and couldn't hide it. Some people can't. Look at Bill Murray. It always makes me laugh. And the fact is that Whoopi won for the wrong role. She was a hoot in 'Ghost' but to me it wasn't an Academy award winning performance. She should have won for 'The Color Purple' and the Academy knew it, so gave her the prize for the wrong role. As they often do.
