I for one am happy to see these women of color confronting Posiedon and his patriarchal racist/fascist reign of the ocean.
I’ve always dreamt of becoming a pro surfer so happy to see this
I surf everyday and never seen a black surfer but that’d be cool to see one
South Africa has a lot. Go to the youtube channel.
Many of our ancestors were from coastal west Africa...and the ocean/water was and remains a part of daily life, for travel, work and play.
Yes🤔
This video means so much to me.
As a black, curvy, female, newbie surfer in Honolulu I've often felt awkward and out of place on my board. Some people stare at me, definitely not in a nice way, and it takes a lot of willpower not to let it distract me. To focus instead on my love of the water.
Some days its hard to work up the courage to go back out there. Knowing that you guys are out there, doing what you do, helps. So thanks for that.
I value your opinion as much as you value mine.
Which is to say, not at all.
just surf. Fuck what other's think. now get out there and surf!
sara fisseha Just do you. Don't allow the stares or remarks of people you don't know to stop you from enjoying your love of the water. No one can define you but you. The person that did all the rambling above doesn't know you and isn't walking in your shoes so live your life, enjoy your life and go surf!!!
Maybe your just bad at surfing
Yosef Haber such a ignorant comment. It’s because she’s a minority in the surfing community. But keep on avoiding the issue.
Not new...I had a boyfriend in the 80's who was a very good surfer...black man...also another almost boyfriend, black as well.....we just need to broaden our horizons and do something fun...it doesn't have to always be a 'movement' or a 'statement'...I dance flamenco...it's not a statement..just something I like to do, and I'm fairly good at..best cardio ever!...peace!
I agree not everything we do needs to be a statement. It's kind of tiring.
So just 2 examples in 40 years haha
10 maybe 15 years ago gorgeous woman of color surfing Blacks beach sandiego... never see her anymore... beauty and diversity wanted and needed.keep charging ladies!!!
BLACK SURFER CHICKS!!!!! where they at! Omg that's so hot!
As a surfer this was confusing first thought wtf man we don't give a shit about color. Now I see what the point is, to expose more people of color to the awesomeness that is surf freedom I get it poor phrasing, cool idea
These comments are already so stupid. She’s amazing and so is the organization
Agreed. These comments are obviously by "duders".
Bri.V.M. amen!
Why am I just now seeing this I’m a brown girl that is learning to surf!!
AWESOME!!
I wish I could learn. For fun and as a hobby. I love the beach, the smell of it, the sound!
It shuold be woman that's it not brown. Not yellow , not white. Not red. Just surfing and having fun. I whish the world to grow up. Do your thing regardless of what other says , looks like or gender.
You missed the whole point of the video. It would be a miracle if we could live in a magical wonderland where many people weren’t judged on things based off of their skin tone. Surfing isn’t generally a hobby black women OR men engage themselves in, as it can be seen as a white dominated sport. So this group was created to encourage black/brown girls to surf to normalize it SO we could be able to “do our thing regardless.”
I just came for the comments.
Hope to see you out at LM one day!
you go girl!!!!
I don't understand, Please explain how anything that is stopping women . I just want to understand , you do say what you just say something is .
So how is some Trump supporter actually stopping her lmao, what a dumb tittle
@Forever Belonging guys don't care if women surf in fact we like it its pretty hot imo
As a longtime surfer I prefer nobody learns,to crowded now...😆
So excited to learn how to surf
Theres actually acute racism when being involved the surfing hobby, just people who look at you like "why are you here blackgirl" ive gotten statements like that but honestly it doesnt bother me anymore, what matters is being immersed in the ocean its one of the best feelings in the world to me
never experienced that in my life surfing and met surfers from all races and creeds. keep your politics out of surfing, its pure and untouched by human conflict
Laird Hamilton I agree
@@jellybowl7332 you have no right to tell her not to share her experience.
@@mememinaa7052 yeah and youve got no right to tell me not to share mine
Awesome For Real! And I Love The Name, Different Shades Of Brown From Light To Dark.
OH IM TOTALLY DOING THIS
I had a friend in the early nineties on the gold coast that ripped her name was black Betty
Yess !
Incredible ❤💪🏿🏄🏿♀️
I'm seeing a lot of haters in these comments.. There's an emphasis on race because representation matters!! I've always wanted to surf but always feared trying it because I never seen anyone look like me (a black woman). So to see this video has inspired me to try it. I believe we can all agree (at least Americans) surfing is a predominantly white hobby. It's good to see other races/sexes doing the sport. Seeing other black women surfing has given me inspiration to try to surf. Thank you
America is a democracy.
Videos like this are trying to change that.
black women didnt wait for her to start surfing :)
Women of color? last time I checked I wasnt seethrough or transparent, with a crayon I color in Peach not a white crayon. Im the color peach. What the fuck is with this new term for darker skinned people as people of color and somehow I have no color or what!?!?!
animal kindness Bye hater!
Cool AWESOME
I love this so much on so many levels. SO important!
I hear a lot of talking but I don't see any surfing lol.
I always wanted to surf, hopefully there's something like this on the East Coast
And lol, are white men really crying because of this simple, informational video?? 😂
Ken MacDonald Dude, they just want women of color to surf in a sport that's seemingly dominated by white men - it's not that deep
What?
Ken MacDonald pretending that racism and sexism doesn't exist is naive and childish. Statistically surfing is a white male dominated sport. It is understandable because of this people will assume, stare and may even take issue when these statistics that create stereotypes are broken. Your issues and rambling seem to be much deeper than what was expressed in this video but some inner bitterness toward the black community which is your own racism.
I prefer Chinese girl surfing.
Uh I’ve surfed before with my bf and I’m black...Americans make such a big deal out of being black and doing something. Can’t she just get recognition for doing what she did and not have it be about her being black or a woman 🤦🏽♀️
The Underdog ok so can you explain it to me? It’s so strange. Other countries had slavery and hardships same as black Americans yet it’s only black Americans who ever make a huge deal out of them being black. I understand pride but this doesn’t seem like that kind of situation. It’s almost as if your saying despite being black, I can still do ________. It seems like you’re selling yourselves short all the time. Sorry if it sounds harsh, I didn’t know another way to put it 😣
I love this because it really teaches people to not be racists and it really changes the lives of her community and also it is revolutionizing society. The fact that she specifically only teaches and finds people that are dark skinned instead of people in general is really great.
The ‘resistance’ is great wow, people said you couldn’t do it but you did it which is great. Keep it up.
TheDannyShow bye troll!
Ken MacDonald I was very very sarcastic
ENJOY D OCEAN EVERYONE. IT'S FREEDOM. \m/ B-)
I mean I saw the title and thought it was ridiculous but I kinda understand it
Understand that its time to unsubscribe this shit channel
'of color' is such a lame term. They're dark, they're brown, and black,… Europids are lighter colored for the most part and with all the colors: brown, blue, green, white, blonde, red, pink, black, tan,…..
Most all people in America appreciate brown/black women and give them their due respect ...this is the truth ! And, they deserve it .
Why not a womens surf club? or do white girls have to make their own?.. White girls surf.. yah that would be loved by everyone..
Where is Aquaman when you need him.
Booooooty
pls stop being racist and sexist
The Irony is stunning.
Satire?
The only thing holding anyone back is themselves.
Says a white privileged duder.
I´m actually not, pretty ignorant of you assuming that. Anyways, think once more next time.
Unsubbed.
Get Low good. We don't need the assholes✌🏾👋🏾
Stop creating stigma to something that no one cares about
Exactly!
This is more racist because of the intention, surfing is about passion not about putting a stamp on things to show what a race can do
imagine if a white guy said he "felt uncomfortable surfing" with blacks and women. there would be outrage.
This already exists... it's called California.
But white guys don't ever have to feel uncomfortable surfing that's the bloody point! We live in a patriarchal society that you enjoy and never have to deal with being uncomfortable. However, when someone tries to explain their emotions around something that you will never have to deal with you don't read to understand but attempt to shut them down with "Imagine the outrage."
This isn’t a white man sport so I don’t understand why the hell he would be saying anything. This is a original Polynesian sport.
What a ridiculous story
This hyperfocus on race is disgusting and racist. King Jr would be disappointed. Oh, and ED, that makes you a race-baiter.
Philip Taylor typical white people bringing up MLK like he is someone who is are daddy and he must put us in line stop 🛑!
pharastar1 "typical white people" You're a bigot and a racist.
just stop please.
Black people can't be racist, we don't own and control any resources. Prejudice. Yes..think you would want to look up the definition of words for the correct meaning. You can find banking, real estate. Government laws on the books today how to treat someone of a different color hue. Can you find any of these from Black people. .A DOCUMENTED. ?
@@tonybrown3203 You're racist.
This is stupid are you serious ? The amount of racism going to white people from this as well. I unsubscribed
Stop appropriating our dialect and our lifestyle it's not for blacks.
