I find transparent gouache is more saturated and brilliant than watercolor. Its a wonderful paint medium

Such a great lesson in resilience! I absolutely loved this lesson by Robert and greatly admire his expertise, experience, love of the craft and sense of humour. I have a new master to follow!

Where are videos like this when I look for them? This one has been on RUclips since 2014. And this is a first time I'm seeing it.
Searching for gouache tutorials, lessons, etc. in RUclips has never given me this video in my search results.
Usually it just gives me videos of young, mostly self taught, artists doing cutesy female characters. What a hell RUclips.
And here this one has been on RUclips since 2014.

For real!! RUclips is a shambles! Let's not even mention the videos and channels which have been deleted by "the powers that be".

Thanks for the video! Do you apply workable fixative to the pencil sketch prior to applying the gouache? And is that regular illustration board that you are using? (sorry if these were answered in the video, I missed them if they were)

that left hand is doing my head in. thumb in some kind of position over-lapping where the ring finger should be..i say this as a guitarist of 40 years..not in a million years is this possible or required. thumb only comes over the top to press down on the top 6th string on the fret board...whats drawn here is a physical impossibility. Instead of a thumb coming down from the top, if that was a ring finger with a big ring..then that would be appropriate..i feel this a massive mistake. its an awesome resource apart from that glaring mistake

How can this video have 50,000 views and only 718 likes? Did 700 people watch it 70 times or something? Real talk I think people are too transfixed to remember to smash :o

4 years late but for anyone else with the same question - Windsor newton designer gouache are probably the most commonly used and are artist grade. That being said, Jeff Watts has said in another demo that there are many other good gouaches which you can use, I believe he said he uses Holbein sometimes.
