In my opinion, coders often have difficulty selecting viable business ideas. The more technically minded someone is, the harder it is to see the forest through the trees.
Hey thanks for the feedback! 😃 Why do you think this is not a viable business?
Google Analytics is free in this space and very mature. With that said, you may discover a unique niche with fresh eyes on the problem that creates an opportunity. Also something to be said about discovering for yourself how to build something and this certainly sounds like a great learning experience no matter the business outcome!
Yes, I'm excited about the learning experience. However the reason I believe this is a viable idea is that Google Analytics is overly complex, requires a steep learning curve and it's not GDPR compliant.
@@withmarko have you seen plausible or piwik
Yes I am very much inspired by Plausible, but I have some things I'd like to do differently than them, I'll share that in the vlogs! 😃
Really excited to see where this ends up. Great start to the series and cool to see how you visualize the architecture in this early stage.
Thank you, glad you liked it 😊
Glad you are coming to Greece, you will love it here!!!
yayy for the sketches all the way, love your art!!

Hey!! I love coming to Greece every year 😃🇬🇷 Thanks!
Thanks for this vlog, I have also been thinking about giving ir a coding challenge this summer.
Lovely! Greetings from Nea Kallikateia where I am on vacation right now 👋🏻
Hey Marko, great video. Excited about your new SaaS project! Wish you all the luck with it!
p.s. props for picking TrackMania:)
Hey thanks, I'm excited to work some more on it, and see where it goes! 😃 TM forever! 🏎️
Travel vlog. I love your videos . Great inspiration.
It is really relaxing to watch your videos
Welcome to Greece Marko!
If you’re using postgresql consider timescaledb for better performance. Also use materialized views for precomputing analytics. A better database choice would be clickhouse as it has automatic materialized view refresh.
Awesome way of combining a lifestyle blog with tech talk!
For the business idea, the space seems super interesting, the question though is how can you set yourself apart?
I feel like with analytics there are already a ton of tools out there and still most people just use Google Analytics. But will be interesting to see how you implement it within your OneWindow application!!
Hey thank you, that’s a great question! In contrast to GA, I would love to focus on privacy and ease of use. Secondly I’m sure that in the process of making this product in the open I’ll be able to get very valuable feedback that will help inform my decisions. But I am very excited to share how Im using it myself as I go 😃
@@withmarko in the video (3:57) you said that third criteria of your start up idea - it should be something that you had experience with... didn't get how much experience you have with analytics, and what problems businesses have with tools such GA, which your solution will solve...
@@withmarko thanks for replying! Will definitely be following along your process :)
@@withmarkoYeah GA is definately not the only one. In the security operations space we often use Splunk, Elastic, Datadog etc. and depending on the network architecture some advanced data pipelines like Cribl Stream. A lot of them can be hosted by yourself, be it onprem or the cloud, so the privacy point is already taken into account.
Definately a lot of solutions on the market. Don't want to talk you out of it, but there really is a ton of big data/analytics plattforms with it's own set of USP's.
That's why the argument that not a lot of people would want to build this kind of app, doesn't quite work in my mind. There's already so many ^^'
Maybe a specialization on a certain set of logs/API's with prebuilt Dashboards would be a worthwhile USP. Just like the big ones do already for the security or cloud space.
Pozdrav!
@@withmarko There are many other options that respect users privacy, such as Plausible or Umami (this one can be self-hosted). But I had in the back of my head a similar idea to create privacy friendly analytics that will be easy to scale and will provider more info than just how many users visited site.
Some funnels, some performance analytics
Great vid!!
Good luck with your project! Been following you for a while, enjoying all your work and beautiful Norway. Welcome to my country, Greece! Have the best time and please be careful of the scorching hot sun. Greetings from a train driver, tech enthusiast and follower of yours!
It’s Norway, not Finland 🙂
Hey thank you for the comment 😃 great point about the sun, I’m always trying to be careful! Wow did you know that at the Kahoot office we used to play those long train ride videos from the pov of the train driver 😃😃
@@withmarko Oh i do that too when i have people over at home with my wife. It does noy distract yet it seems like you are really travelling when you take a glance at it. Enjoy your vacation and take care.
@@withmarko Haha, i do it too on my days off. It is truly relaxing and you can get to see many parts of the world too. It looks mesmerizing on screen but for me it is pure concentration but also a little fun too, when driving my freight trains.
I think it is going to be some tough space to crack. If you are planning for logs, ELK stack already exists which provide a lot of options as well as it is open source. If you are planning something for metrics then Grafanaa(also open source) and datadog are widely used.
Hey yes, that's true, but even if it's not a successful project financially, I think I can still learn a lot along the way 😃
Good luck with your project! 😜a programmer from China
Amazing video!
nice video marko!
Welcome to Greece Marko! 👏💙
Loving the idea ❤
Awesome style for a video!

Yay sketches!
As always, great video. I am currently in Greece on a business trip. It's good for you to rest))
Hey thank you 😊 I did take some nice time off 😃
i am web developer and i live in Greece. i like to see you bro 👍🏼
Welcome to Greece mate, Hopefully you will have a great time here! The internet speeds are a common issue in greece especially in the islands, imagine that in most islands the (not all of them) the highest internet connection you can get is 24mbps, and in mainland telecommunication companies just started setting up Fiber connections with 1gbps speed... Yeah we have sun but i our internet sucks big time.
Hey thank you! 😃🇬🇷 I don't mind the internet, the beautiful nature and amazing people more than make up for any inconvenience with the connection ☀️
Omg,it’s incredible😍
Hey thanks 😊
that's awesome mann... stay blessed
My man is having a perfect example of a ''Busman's Holiday''.
great video, cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
The difference you can make is not enabling people to log or send analytics (a lot of services already exists for this), but the way we traverse / lookup the information from the logs, analytics. Think about how developers look at logs and why, and what are the use cases. There is a lot of potential there.
Yo im a viewer for about 1 year and you inspired me to start learning coding. oh and guess what... I leave in greece, hope you have a perfect time here
The Witcher, Nice :D
Hello Marko!!! Come to Corfu!!! Greetings from Greece !!!!
your sketches are great!!
Thank you 😊
I just migrated my personal project to Firebase and it SLAAAAAAPS
Cool idea for a project!

Hey I’ll try to draw a few more, thank you! 😊
Welcome to my country Greece mate ! Να περάσεις όμορφα .
Great video series 🎉
Hey thank you 😊🙏
The greek message surprised me lol. Good luck with your projects.
Haha, thank you 😊
Hello Marko, I found this video while exploring random video on RUclips. Btw Nice video and I'm done with subscribe also I'm going to explore videos on your channel . Keep it up 👍🏼 waiting for upcoming videos.
Hello Marko, I see your videos almost daily and I really like them.
One suggestion regarding a project which you can make is giving a notification in windows that the text is copied, or something like that.
If there is a software of this kind please let me know.
Thank you so much, Keep up the good work.
Regards
great video thanks for it
Dust in the Wind - Kansas!
Amazing
I like the mashup of lifestyle and Dev content. How do you plan on capturing and storing customer event data?
Hey thanks! 😃 I plan on having a basic script that can be used to capture simple website analytics automatically, and then an API similar to Amplitude for capturing user interaction data. I'm still considering different ways of storing the data, but from a high level it will be an analytics DB for querying and then a file store for backups 😃
Love your videos!
Thank you 😃
how do you guys define the good tech that fits into your projects? sometimes i suffer when what should i pick some of the similar dependencies/library
Dust in the Wind - and that is all we are!
have fun all summer long☺..
Hey thanks you too 😃
Its Dust in the Wind from Kansas!
Happy coding! Good luck!
First!! Thank you Marko!!!
Hey yes, congrats 😃🙌
ayyyyy it is really good video keep up the good work
Hey, thank you 😊
@@withmarko no problem ;)
Nice video! What do you think about the ChatGPT code interpreter?
At 6:46 a very common plant in Brazil appears, it is often used in stews, rich in collagen, we call it ora-pro-nobis.
Dust in the wind for the song
Aaa brate, a ti si nash :D
Great vid. What backpack is that?
Dust in the wind - Kansas ;)
It would be nice to also hear about potential competitors research for your analytics app and why you think it can overcome them
Hey thanks for the suggestion! 😊 This part will be covered in the following episodes! In short, it's all about having the distribution and building a brand. I'm not going to initially compete on product features, but rather on my ability to reach a wide audience. I don't necessarily have to sell directly to my audience, but over time I've come to realize that the people watching my vlog are quite knowledgeable and are excited to try out the things I'm making. This in turn will give me a lot of valuable feedback and allow me to create a very polished and well balanced product, that could appeal to a large similar audience down the road.
What bag are you using? It looks nice!
