Has anyone seen my propeller?

  • This week we nearly run aground when our propellor came off. Whilst getting ready to moor up to a buoy near shore we lost reverse and the stopping power that gives. Follow us as we try to remedy the problem on the mooring. Since this has happened, we will now be ordering up a new propellor as well as key way steel and all of the nuts needed for a complete change. This will now be in our spares box along with many other spares. Has this ever happened to you?

Crikey Neil thats a pretty scary day. Well done on the rescue and finding the thing. Breathing pipe would be useful.

I have a full set of diving kit at home. But there just becomes a limit as to the amount of kit you can get on a 33ft boat. New prop on order.

Follow up. I put the boat against the wall and dried out today. I wanted to check the propeller. Also i got a proper tab washer for the propeller and installed this. I think that i had not bent the previous tab washer over enough previously.

Nice job finding the prop and refitting! Prompted me to go and find my spare prop and fittings....

Hi Mark. I just ordered a new prop today. I also managed to get my old bent prop back for emergency as well as a spare key. I now need to find out what the nut size is and order some of those.

Well done Neil you saved the day, on reflection I bet you are glad it wasn’t the gearbox. Good job you had the right nut on board 👍

HI Andy. I thought the gearbox was just the cable and an easy fix. Yes I am glad i had those spares and even better that i new where they were.

Bet you were glad you found that! How did you manage to navigate to the buoy without the prop? Turn the boat around using the remaining momentum and then sail on to it?

We used the momentum of the boat and then the bow thrusters to keep it in a circle
