- In a surprising escalation, an American base in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, has come under intense rocket and drone bombardment. The attack targeted the headquarters of U.S. armoured forces stationed at the Conoco gas field base during the early hours of Sunday, with reports of direct hits on the command centre. Resistance factions in Syria are believed to be behind the assault. The attacks come at a time when tensions are high in the region following Israel's killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
