A ridiculously orthodox keeper. Every keeper before that who was "great" achieved it by being a bit erratic, a bit eccentric. Seaman was just ridiculously consistent but still had all the top drawer athleticism to pull off big saves. His willingness to use his body and feet to save shots, particularly up close in one on ones, really made a difference.
His only unorthodox move was to be slightly off his line at the time opting to be a bit further up than some other keepers of his era, I always had confidence with him between the sticks
@@losnamerales3403 Yeah, I think that was a critical part of the Arsenal defensive tactics with the high backline and offside. If your keeper isn't willing or able to come and sweep up then they just end up backpedalling. It's an insane save. The fact that he got enough power behind the ball with his hand to keep it out and actually get it away from the Sheffield player. And he was 39, only a few months from turning 40.

Who was better : him or Chris Woods ? I like both of them. Honestly, after the 1st time I saw Woods played at Norwich City in around 1984, I found a new favorite GK : he was strong, good shot stopper and had good goal kick. But as Bobby Robson kept putting him at the bench for ageing Peter Shilton, even at WC 90, I never saw him play at major tournament. And then came the emerging David Seaman whom also impressed me; I watched him play at Euro 96 live on TV in the match vs Spain on which he became the hero for England, and became my new favorite GK. I had to forget Chris Woods because of him. However, now I remember him again and watch highlights of his saves as well as goal kick.
