Heltecs available here!👇🏼

I came for the great content, and fist-pumping at the end. :D :D
Aaaaaaaand they're gone!
Remember erp is heavily restricted so when you use a bigger antenna, it could breach the license free conditions which is heavily heavily dealt with
That Yagi makes you look like a MeshTastic Hunter.
Kudos to the folks in Britain for building out such a mesh network! Glad to see you're a Heltec fan too :)
Meshatstic just got cancelled in the uk or something didn't it?
Where did you hear that ?
@@bigmouthstrikesagain4056
I was just thinking about using mobile phones with an offline messaging app like BRIAR to create a Meshtastic like network. The advantage would be the sheer number and ubiquity of mobile phones just about everywhere. If many ran the BRIAR app, it would potentially cover the entire UK with no extra hardware required. BRIAR uses the mobile phone's built-in Bluetooth and WiFi radios to create and offline network.
I can confirm my node list was alot bigger! That's quality that your Yagi in Hertford was travelling that far. I was at work but I got all the messages. Cheshunt 360 is a 8.5dbi Omni and cheshunt south is 9.5dbi Yagi both loft mounted. Great experiment Andy
Nice one Mark! Thanks for the clarification, your stations get out well! I was picking them up all over Cheshunt, Waltham cross and beyond!
Sunday lunchtimes at High Beach was fantastic back in the 1980's. We used to go up there in classic Ford cars, Mk1 Escorts, Capri's, Granada's and other boy racers and motorcyclists used to drive around, showing off their cars. At night, it's a well known spot for courting couples. Rod Stewart used to frequent the pub there, when he used to live not far from there.
Tea and cherry cake from the cafe there :)
Store... YES! Great video Andy 🙂
Have really enjoyed these videos. I ordered a high gain antenna and it will be here Monday. Looking forward to trying it out.
As well as commercial yagis you could also try a little home made moxon rectangle that would be easy to scale & knock up. Some wire stuck to an A4 piece of card would probably do
Cool case, reminds me of an old realistic scanner my parents bought at tendy in the 1980's...
Would love the stl file
Love this yagi on the tripod rog!
Meshtastic seems so amazing. I ordered some devices, they should be here this week. I also have some bigger antennas that I found locally and want to install outside. The goal is to cover our village.
That case is really brilliant. I wish I had the idea.
That's awesome. I hope to get a node set up soon in stillwater Oklahoma or a few
My father-in-law has a very expensive setup for radio communication that he used to use a few decades ago. There is a huge antenna on the backyard that I have been wonder if it could be put to use as a bridge of sorts for the LoRa network. We live in Japan and the guy use to communicate with people from the US and Russia, India, etc.
High Beach was my local hi spot when I lived in Enfield near J25, did some mw, sw n vhf from near enuff where you were, CB n 2m plus good ol' 934mHz as well. Waiting for less power hungry version to emerge from Heltec.....
It is exciting! I am suddenly hooked! I have expanded my original 2 Heltec's with another 4 from Ali. Also purchased what looks an interesting cheap antenna (1.1m long) off eBay (waiting delivery) - that has a pole mount on the antenna itself so looking to "hang" the waterproof enclosure off the N connector on the bottom of the antenna. Hope to get that up in the air in the coming weeks. Would be good to see some more operational videos - remote admin for example which I think is going to become a "thing" for administering something up in the air. Thanks Andy for providing another outlet for me to spend money :-)
I'm in Melbourne Australia. I just ordered a pair of Heltecs to play with. I'm seeing an international mesh routed, both geographically and with some network smarts. LOL stick one in everyones window, work out the frequency changes between regions for the RF to sooth the paths and ........ 👍✌😎
Here it comes, a new and exciting hobbi. You gave me a Meshtastic bug.😅
I was only researching these devices for paragliding use, we use FANET and FLARM protocols on the same LoRA chip devices. But I ended up loading Meshtastic on my T-Beam to see what it looks like.
I am 17km NE from you. Up for a challenge to get connected. There are some small hills between, but with some elevation might clear them. Just need to pick a good Omni, I ll check your recommendations. Good videos, keep up good work.
i just had someone join my network from radar hill then i also had connection to a town over 10 miles away as well as 2 unknown devices , just one guy 3 miles away linked me to a bigger network !! i missed hes message to as was not even home when this happened , love how its growing
It's great to hear stories like this 😁👍🏻
I like it on the dash like that but I would use an external vehicle mounted antenna.
MFC brought me here! He’s my brother and purchased me a LoRa device! I have been testing mine locally but not picking up much within London. More reading to be done and testing!
Thanks for another video.. those cases are awesome.
Cheers mate, exciting times 😁
Cool beans, a growing Meshed Network. Only could have been imagined in the 60's.
I was on the balcony of an office in Enfield scanning for nodes about half an hour before you were filming (judging by the clock on your phone). Saw some of the same stations you did.
Thats cool! Possible you saw my home node, what's your one called?
Speaking of things that never happened
It really is the future of comms.
I would use Clover Leaf antenna better omi 360° and Vertical and horizontal (radio propagation) are both omi coverd
So whats the rage between point to point? Whithout being on a hilltop
Why are comments turned off on new video? What is not allowed to be debated?
I saw a whole lot more people complaining about his clickbait and or misinformation title and thumbnails. He replied pretty coldly to several of them. Not for sure the reason but I think people are annoyed that he said there was problems with Meshtastic in the title but it was just a 3rd party map service. I personally hope he stops treating his viewers so poorly. Makes me wonder if he thinks is content isn't good so he feels like he has to lie in the title and thumbnails. I think the content is fine but he really needs to stop lying and clickbaiting his titles and thumbnails.
Hi 🙂 great video ! question : IS it possible to buy your STL ?
9:58 music - 👍
Hi Andy, Do you think it will possible to sell these as complete devices rather than kit form? Very excited to get hold of a couple to experiment with
Hi Andy, episode suggestion: SNR & RSSI interpretation. If I’m struggling to comprehending the Meshtastic app SNR & RSSI figures maybe others are too. I’m seeing 3 green bars and “good” but a rssi of -102 isn’t i thought . Love your vids. Here in Oz
If you have an *Android* device you can setup Multiple Users on the same phone and have separate installs of Meshtastic for each node you manage.
How far do these things normally reach in rural and urban areas? And how long does that battery last?
Oh so reminded of the "Summer Of Love" 1988/89
Sent to the video by my MeshTastic! "PTS1: New Andy vid"
I wonder if the UK radio regulation is the same as larger EU and these devices are legal to use over the channel as well?
Ive picked up Hertford NW and East links. From peckham.
Madness!!!
@@andykirby have you seen a node that has a helicopter icon instead of the short name and Meshtastic EDFE long name. Its reporting from 635km away apparently? maybe someone taking their node up in a chopper? weird... 73
Hi Andy, not sure if this has been mentioned. I’ve been to a few music festivals in Aus and when 12000 people are snapchatting, instagramming or whatever you CAN NOT send a basic text message to friends or family. I assume these would work perfect. Great videos as always.
Hi, yes when cell towers become overloaded the data rate collapses. This would of course still work.😁
Great news and music !
Brighton-1 BTN1 node is up and running. Drop in and say hi !
Nice!
Hopefully buying a new house soon, I plan to slap a poe switch in the loft, cable up the place and add cameras however I just found that you can use a cat5/6 "PoE to Type-C Adapter Converter, Convert POE to Output 5V/2.4A USB C" to power the Meshtastic...watch this space, will take a while but I hope to have a station in sunny Baldock soon
Don't rely on WiFi to connect the Heltec V3 to your WiFi routers as the firmware is faulty and it doesn't work! Bluetooth keeps falling over too.
We need proper working software.
hi. i think the heltec v3 could be stuck to a drone and flown up high. could make for quite a decent experiment. fancy trying it?
I did it a couple of videos back!
Get those batteries ordered ready for the new Nibbler Case.
Still can't get heltec v3 working on WiFi.
Hi cannot see the case link help please thanks
what is the perpose of this
Love the song & thermal images, at the end of your (meshtastic canceled) the comments are turned off on that release.
Can't wait to see what you think about the Wisblock when you get the time Andy.
My meshtastic base on wifi can't open radio config.
Is this a settings issue
Cool stuff. I wonder. If I don't turn on the device 24/7. I wonder if it works like other messaging apps like whatsapp which you can send and receive message "OFFLINE" and be able to see it next time you log in or open the app? Can I do it?
You need to enable "store and forward" on a node in between.
My office is on the 17th floor of an office building in the middle of a dense city. If I put one of these inside next to the window, how may that work? Would having it inside the building compromise the signal? I like about 18km away from the office. It would be massive to connect.
Depends upon the terrain between work and home, but that height will definitely give you a good chance of connecting the two 👍🏻
Yes, some windows have a metallic coating that will either block or severely attenuate those frequencies. Try it and see, if I could get one, I would be putting it on a very tall city building and also linking buildings in different areas.
It's a bummer that none of these meshtasstic units are available. I checked all the links.
Let's see some rak wisblock content
If it’s local I’m gonna wait
KM your in the UK it's miles here mate 😂
Hi Andy looking to pick up a VNA so many diff models though. Want it be multipurpose though and as well as the 868lora use want to be able to monitor Wifi in the 2.4 and 5.8 ranges which model would you recommend ? TIA steve
For monitoring (not antenna checking) you want the TinySA ultra amzn.to/3SEoT4E
Cheers @@andykirby
A vna vector network analyser measures swr and other properties of an antenna system and helps you to match/tune it for max efficiency. It does not monitor signals from elsewhere. There is a Wi-Fi monitor app available for Android phones which can show you sigs on 2.4 and 5GHz and the occupied channels. Handy for finding clear channels on your home router.
G4BTI.
I can't get the arrow direction or the KM distance working on mine, any ideas?
Same here mate!!..would live to no how you get them!??..iv checked the settings but still no joy🫣🤣
Is it direct or through Nodes? If I didn't have a local node I would get nothing. Range is about a mile or two, but up to 40miles as that is via 3 hops.
People incorrectly think that what they see is direct. Do the node trace as Andy has to improve your setup.
Does the network just friends and family or is it anyone else that has one of these devices?
How on heltec you can get GPS location on display with out gps module?
Enable "share phones location with mesh"
Ahh okii thanks for the help
I want one! But can we source these cases in Aus?
You’ll need a 3D printer and the files are available for purchase.
Nice long blank screen outro.. Yay
WTF can't even find a BENDER case now! I still can't get hold of one of these boards either and I definitely need one as I live on a hill and work in a location that is really high up so would give amazing coverage.
Seller called chips-fans on eBay. Took 5 days to arrive to UK
The android app looks a lot more comprehensive that the iphone app for messaging.
It's a lot better yeah
Doggermeshtastic game changer.
Do these work on iPhone
Yes mate - everything is the same, the iOS is just a little more difficult to navigate to find the features.
Some people are truly easily impressed.
I noticed, that lately your video titles have gone sensationalistic. I saw you video "This changes everything", and it was just a functional 3D-printed enclosure, not a game changer. I understand how addicting it is to get rising viewcount, but empty promises in video title are really irritating.
Don't be a kill joy
He has been overHype for ages
I'm not understanding what the different things do.
I don't know what a "node" is vs anything else.
I think this channel is missing the opportunity to go into these things .
The same goes for links that are outdated, when stock sold out ages ago and people can not re-stock.
I agree. Consistent clickbait titles leads to me leaving a channel even if I overall enjoy the main content. I never enjoy getting 3 minutes into a video before realizing it doesn’t actually have anything new for me to see. The 3D printed enclosure is a classic example. There have been 3D printed T Beam cases like the one he reviewed since about a week after the T-beam came out. There’s many better 3D designs for other meshtastic hardware out there than that simple box.
bro in the rs though
Where you getting your 18650’s
I just bought a set of 8 3000mAH with a charger and a free gift torch from Amazon £25
Being lazy post a link
What I mean to say is; wouldn't a 007 type genre song be more fitting?
It's like a James Bond device, so...
What made you pick that music? I can't fit it to the topic, but you must have had a reason.
The vocals go ... I can hear whispers from far away... plus I made it.
every bitcoin node should have one
"some what New" so if I'm in canada would this be what im looking for? "Dual Mode SX1278 LoRa ESP32 Wireless Bluetooth WiFi Development Board 433MHz 0.96 inch OLED Display IOT with Antenna for Arduino" thank for the videos over the top keep it up.
Sending a shout out to you, Fred in the shed and Ringway Manchester for the fantastic videos on radio. I look forward to attempting CB communications with all 3 of you chaps. I've been starting to hear UK, Germany, France, Italy in the morning and starting to get Australia.
The intro song...artist? Title? Damn good beat.
Got my V3 talking last night! Look forward to playing with it!
Clickbait keeps annoying me.... it's an EPIDEMIC !!!
STOP SHOUTING
Sorry mate but this is unwatchable thanks to chaotic narration and sensational titles. Unsubscribed.
You'll be sorely missed ...
bet your fun at parties ..
😂😂
@@andykirbyBest response ever 😂 Never understood why anyone thinks others care - just leave if you don’t like it.
I love the vids Andy, great show! KB1ZAM 73'
Hi Thank you for the videos you do on meshtastic they have a lot off usefully
