I just assumed you cheated by declaring the coin to be heads or tales based on the first flip, but its DASTARDLY to choose whether or not you were going for alternating or the same!

What really surprises me is that you, as a Mathematician, say "Well the average was unusable because of some outliers at the top" and then go for the somewhat arbitrary "Average of those below a million" instead for simply Q50 which is the most common thing to fall back to if the variable spans a too wide range for the average to make any sense.
That one ballon that comes up after the 10 heads in row is perfect.

I like how you left a buffer at the end so that anyone who accidentally/purposefully looked at the time stamp to see if it would be possible to explain the puzzle in the remaining time wouldn't be tipped off.

I am slightly taken aback that you didn't mention how 1023 ought to be the correct guess if one assumes that it doesn't matter which way the first coin lands (that you'll define that to be heads).
Or am I doing that probability wrong?

You should've taken a geometric mean of the set. It would've adjusted for outliers better when the nodes are spread over multiple orders of magnitude.

However I laughed like crazy at 16:30. The sad way those balloons came up. The schadenfreude was too much.
I was listening to the video while writing, when suddenly I hear at 14:49 "I'm going to show you that footage. Here is me, getting ten heads in a row." What I he meant to say, and what I understood, were two QUITE different things. My neck almost snapped from how fast I turned my head to face the screen.
so on the 10^5 video, there were 10^4 comments to get (roughly) 10^3 flips. anything else

At 10^2 seconds (1 minute 40) all the balloons fell down with the 10^5 on referencing the previous video. Can that count??

Pasting the non-English names into google translate and use the "listen" link in the translate from box (set to detect language) will often give a reasonable approximation of pronunciation

Worst time for a video to cut out for me. My internet connection has been out at home and at work since Tuesday and came back today but has been spotty. I'm still not 100% sure this video blackout is on purpose or just my curse for the week.

I for one am much more impressed by a series of alternating flips: if it were 10 heads in a row, you'd have a lot of people screaming that it was one of those trick coins that FIFA uses to rig football matches.

Hi Matt! I have a question... didn't you ever mix up the head/tails naming in a run? If whatever color you get on the first throw will be "heads", didn't you ever get confused and call that same color "tails" ? That's a crazy amount of concentration

If freddy is facing away from the number that means he wants to eat something greater, but if freddy faces towards the number, it means he believes it greatest
The failed celebration turned out more comedic than it would've been.
Since Matt counted a lot of the misflips (the coin landing outside of the bowl) the actual number of flips for HTHTHTHTHT was *907*.
However, if you take the entire string of 908 flips and translate it into a legit race (where you stop at T, HH, HTT, HTHH, ...and so on) the final run would be HTHTHTHTT, so the race would still be on... maybe it _would_ end on 939 flips.

I've recently been dabbling in dice roll probability for Warhammer and just as you said, it's so easy to get it wrong. How it works is that you roll e.g. 10 dice, you keep all that are 4 or above and roll those again. In the second case you're looking for 3 or above. Lastly, you take the number of successful rolls from the second case and roll again, any result of e.g. 5 or above cancels a successful roll. What I'm trying to calculate is the probability for N number of successful rolls.
There's a whole lot of combinatorics and binomial probability distribution going on, and the hard part is that you're never really sure if you actually got it right.

Typically the solution to problematic outliers in data is to use the median instead of the mean. I wonder what the median was...

Or you can call all values outside a certain range outliers, by using the IQR (interquartile range that's Q3-Q1) to determine how spread the middle 50% of values that surround the median are, then excluding any values that are 1.5*IQR above Q3 and 1.5*IQR below Q1
