What an absolute boss. I’m so glad she brought up the issue of high asthma rates in the South Bronx. In graduate school, one of my professors mentioned that the Bronx is nicknamed “asthma ally” because, as pointed out here, they lead the nation in asthma rates. It is bad there. Highways bisect the borough at a high rate, parkland is scarce, and as such the air quality is abysmal.

She knows that the decisions made in the past have made some things about climate change completely irreversible, but she offers options to how the situation can be approached in the present to prevent the whole thing from becoming even worse. She's talking about concrete actions that need to be done in order to achieve this, and then she explains the positive effects that these concrete actions will have. Yes, she's expressing her wishes, but she is also giving and explanation of how to make those wishes become a reality.

My gov decided to ignore environmental flood measures given them by local experts. The effects are still being felt four years later. They cut jobs and barrier controsl to the extent bridges collapsed flooded homes are now uninsurable, towns were cut off people off work emergency services overstretched elderly people waiting in the dark hoping to be rescued. Not only is it a disaster its a disaster that should never have happened. Then its all about catch up with pre set budgets unable to cover the costs causing cuts to other programs like education healthcare infrastructure.
Literally everything. Look at Notre Dame, there were people who wanted money to prevent it burning down for YEARS... did the government help? Nope. People have to and only after it is burned down.
The same thing occurs at my job regularly!

2. I don’t really care if some people like coal and gas. Climate change has severely affected where I live. I live in Alabama, which has had the majority of tornadoes in 2019, which has never been a problem for us.
3. I have many facts on my side, such as the fact that the ozone layer is being filled with gassed that trap heat in the atmosphere.
The fact that flint still doesn’t have good water.
The fact that tropical climates could be underwater in the next couple decades due to rising sea levels.
The fact that children in China have to check the smog before they can even go outside in the morning.
The fact that coal is limited, and will not last humanity forever.
These are just a few of the reason I support making decisions to help our earth. It’s all we have, after all.

Notre Dame is incredibly important to the economy of that particular area. If you’re okay with the people relying on the tourist traffic (aka small businesses and families) to lose their entire livelihoods, then so be it. That’s on your conscience, not mine. You could also say the same thing about the ocean, why not donate that money to the homeless? You can’t knock one good cause because they’re are other good causes. That’s just ignorant.

sarah I disagree, a good cause is a good cause no matter how small in comparison to other things. If I donate $100 to feed the homeless that’s a good thing. Yes, I probably could donate that same cash to somewhere else that would have a bigger impact like building a wells in Africa or cleaning up the ocean. I just think we should happy to see humans come together and do good. Instead of complaining, just raise more awareness for your cause without belittling others. (Btw I’m not talking about you specifically)
