The couple behind Alice when she walks thru by herself does look a lot like Epstein and Maxwell also the 2 old men sitting at the table by the stairs seem to appear in the final scene as well as the waiter with the longer hair who also appears in the final scene with what appears to be a large bag. Some say Ziegler and his wife are references to the Clintons in that scene and based on their Christmas 🎄 cards back then there is a definite resemblance. The 2 girls don’t look happy when they are interrupted while trying to seduce Bill. Ziegler references tennis after we see 2 tennis rackets in Alice’s opening scene. I’m guessing Kubrick is connecting Alice’s past(or maybe still current) life to Ziegler. Probably hundreds of other things going on as well in that scene

EWS is about Scientology, as is Severance. They both feature no food parties.

Did you catch the extras in the background of the first party that look a lot like Epstein and Maxwell? A lot of a lot. And they have a couple odd interactions.

They were “active” back then, but were they known to the public? Would someone like Kubrick even know how they were in 1998? I’ll have to look for them next time.

@@JackBirdbath yes. I think so. If you search for "Eyes Wide Shut: Kubrick’s Great Mystery, Part II" on medium you can find a picture of them toward the bottom, with the two screens. They are on the left behind Alice. There is a whole theory about their appearance and disappearance I won't get into here.

I figured food was probably left out for aesthetic reasons. Maybe just production reasons, sure, but Kubrick was pretty obsessive about his aesthetic.
I'm a radical intentionality kinda guy. If we are taking about meaning, we are talking about intention. It has to be intentional, that's obvious, and the aesthetic is absolutely dream-like, so it works! It's not *merely* aesthetic. Thx, you've added something to the discourse around this film.

The Shining hoarded food, but only Danny ate a grilled cheese. And Jack dunked his bacon into top of eggs.
Even Danny and Chef weren't eating ice cream while talking.
You're right, no one ever eats in his films.

@@jasonmc7967 I assume it has something to do with problems around continuity as well as the previously mentioned aesthetic reasons. Food can be hard to keep tightly controlled during a shoot.

There apparently were scenes of sacrifice removed from the final cut, plus among conspiracy theories Kubricks death shortly after the movie was released is highly controversial. If you freeze the part where Bill reads about a former beauty pageant queen overdoses on drugs, there are lines repeated one after the other, it's a bit like scene in the shining when Wendy reads Jack's script. Thanks for your videos.

All newspapers in films are filled with nonsense sentences. They are not meant to be read, beyond the headline. Freeze-frame any film with a newspaper, and you will see nonsense writing. Also, there is nothing controversial about Kubrick's death. He had a heart-attack in his sleep while laying next to his wife. Conspiracy theories are for people with child-like mentalities.

@Killers-ICU When the movie came out I saw press explaining what they did to alter the movie. They admitted at the time to digitally adding chairs and people in front of sex acts in the orgy scenes. They probably did cut more. FOR SURE they changed those scenes: I remember them admitting to it.

No one has seen God and lived. Humans are not built for absolute Truth. We WANT to be mis-led, mis-treated, mis-guided, mis-just about everything. In fact, the word "sin" comes from an ancient archery term meaning "to miss the target." This movie is the ultimate in pointing the way, while continually providing sinful distractions, to the very end.
