I also found that it's a bit better with the cover on, and when the fans are spinning faster. I measured close to 400W per channel RMS at 8 ohms this past weekend, and it seems to be working perfect so far.
Chances of you seeing this reply 9 years after you posted these good videos is slim, but I'll give it a shot... You did a bang-up good job on this restoration. I worked at the Peavey Service Center for about 6 years and I was a lead technician for Crest amplifiers. Most of these were work horses; a *few* were nightmares. If you ever run into another Crest amp contact me - I might have the schematic for it. Hint: if you ever work on a CA12, watch out for those filter caps - if they start leaking, that amp may well be history. The board will burn up and take the transformer with it. Bummer 'cause it was a beast of an amp when it was working right.
I used to service sound equipment from nightclubs in the UK and the power amplifiers used to get filthy inside, a mixture of smoke machine fluid human sweat and skin dust and nicotine all sucked in by the cooling fans. Nice
I replaced my amplifier with a Crest. Crest and Crown pro amps are way better than the home amplifiers they sell for 10X as much. Look at the build quality of this amp...amazing.
I run my big 3 way lounge speakers off a tip top ca6 i bought a few years ago. Beautifull amp, sounds great and havent had a single problem. Agree.. it knocks the socks off of hifi amps anywhere near the price
I'm recapping my CA9 and now the bias is possibly screwed after cramming in some F+T caps on the amp board. Thanks for the look at the line control caps. Maybe I can replace them from the back and avoid new sticker nonsense.
Ebay for a used one, or there are a few good places to buy new ones fairly cheap, depending on size. Amazon, Musician's Friend, Sweetwater, places like that.
sound great nice highs as for wood nice new desk for basement computer and your going to build speakers that was a dream of mine and a friend custom built crossovers and so on
Nice. I just got myself a CA4 and am tempted to clean mine out like you did. I noticed in bridge mode, I can still control each individual channel individually, Is that supposed to do that? Haven't seen that before.
Maxx ,(or anybody else) I have a question that is not related to this video. What kind of glue did you use to attach the vellum paper to the dial face of that marantz receiver you restored and is that glue the ideal glue or would you recommend some other glue? I was thinking about rubber cement but was worried that it might degrade under the lamp heat and the paper would fall off.
remember its used not new so if you run it hard at a show a cheap china fan in the back of the rack is needed i used to throw shows yep nice ps i checked online and its worth 260 bucks nice but the power is priceless !.
If I remember right, Peavey owns them now, and I had ordered the decals from them directly. I don't know if they would still stock them now though. This was recorded about 8 years ago.
Hi ! my ca6 suplied today. The transformator is made in ireland and i have no settings outside on the back panel for adjust. the adjust is inside via jumper on a panel. xlr settings, sensitivity for dbu and a switch where i cant see for what. the switch have 3 positions. i never can find any infos about. maybe u have ideas??
Excellent job. Just the information I needed about reassuring my procedure of cleaning boards. You inspire me. Thanks

Yep, Crest is part of Peavey now, and they still had some parts.

These usually go for $350-400 in good condition, and $100-150 not working. I haven't decided if I want to sell it yet or not.
I doubt it would make it more efficient. I mainly cleaned it so my room wouldn't smell like cigarettes.
great job
Very Nice.

When I get caught up on more important stuff. Hopefully soon though.

I only used it because it was on that computer. It's an old WinXP system LOL.
