Had to give you a huge thank you! My forerunner froze up and would not let me do anything. I knew youtube would have the answer. Your video was extremely easy to follow! Thanks again!
This was the best tutorial for me you took it one step at a time. Iv'e looked at others and they go too fast and start pushing buttons right away, you gave a good explanation. I'd like to know how to set the timer for evey mile. Help! They say it's easy to work with on the advertisement, but it wasn't for me.
EmLovesCW can I ask question? On how you will know if your Garmin Forerunner 220 is Battery Low and need to be charge up?Thanks in advance and God bless
It took me a few tries, but I got it to work. My garmin 620 would get stuck on the "garmin" screen and wouldn't do anything. I lost the data, but I had most of it logged already anyways. Thanks for the help! :)
Hola amigo muy bueno tu video tutorial pero mi problema persiste en mi reloj es decir entra en el modo tess en pantalla y no sale de ahi ojala tengas otro metodo o solucion para mi saludos desde cuba
Hello brother, I hope you're fine Please help I have a Garmin 225 When inflamed stay frozen in Garmin I tried all kinds of reboot and formatting, nothing worked with me
Hi Jim, just did the soft reset and lost all of my data and records over the past 12 weeks. Pretty mad. Next time make sure you know for sure before making a video. Cheers.
Once you've done a hard reset, is there an easy way to restore data to the device (run history, records etc.) without going into each one individually and sending to device? Is there a batch way to do this?
if you sync to garmin connect, it (personal records, custom workouts) *should* transfer back to the watch next time you sync. I think you would have needed to copy the activities folder and make a backup before doing the reset.
tried to do the hard reset,,,,followed your instructions. got the beep, let go one finger at a time on the buttons. still have the GARMIN on the screen,,,and nothing else.???
hmm, sometimes putting the forerunner into the charger (plugged in) and repeating the steps *might* snap the forerunner out of the logo mode. if that doesn't work, I think a call to garmin support is worth it as that's about the only trick I got.
Appreciate you getting back to me....will be trying them on the morrow...tried another on line service,,,,,scam!!! Just Answer...got my money back tho...
Something is not right i just did the soft reset as per the video and lost all saved data all my history and activities have gone. It's not a big deal for me but if it might be for you beware!
Jim Cyr Same, my husband and I did a soft reset on my watch last night and all my previous activities/records/etc are gone. Pretty pissed as we made doubly sure this wouldn't happen!
Your so called soft reset erases all workout history. You're giving a lot of people bad advice, perhaps you could stop. *To soft reset the forerunner 220 hold the Light button for 15 seconds (turns off), and 1 second to turn back on.
hutson rapier it's not bad information, some people can't get their device to restart as in the manual. Losing data is unfortunately part of the risks if your device isn't responding.
Jim Cyr You're telling people it doesn't wipe data to restore system defaults, however that is not the case. The system default restore wipes all workout history. Very simply, you are wrong and therefore are providing inaccurate information which is causing people to lose their workouts. The evidence of which is seen by the comments section, at least 3 people have lost data.
hutson rapier the video is a year old, at the time of recording what I showed was correct. I see a lot of firmware updates for the 220 since then and maybe the steps are out of date. Notice that the problems in the comments all started 4 months ago. I have a lot of other forerunner reset videos and this is the first one that people are commenting isn't working as described. As I said in a previous reply, I've made the edits in the description and added annotations to warm about the loss of workouts data using the soft reset steps.
hutson rapier Thx worked like a charm..... although sad to see a hand watch frozen at exactly 15km after 45Km run.... thought software is tested before release....

Thanks this worked with my Forerunner 745 which was totally stuck (
after a fw update) and kept on hanging in the start-up screen!
It took me a few tries, but I got it to work. My garmin 620 would get stuck on the "garmin" screen and wouldn't do anything. I lost the data, but I had most of it logged already anyways. Thanks for the help! :)
+Tracy Betak excellent! it sounded like when I got stuck in a startup loop using the garmin fenix. it took a few tries to get past that screen
Thank you so much for making this video!!! just saved me a whole lot of trouble with a Forerunner 230! Thanks!!

Lachlan Haitana Sorry about the data loss, I'll make a note in the video and desc.

Is the power button the same as the light button?
+jjman9 yes. typically power/backlight are the same button on the forerunners.
Okay thanks!
i did the soft reset and the activities were gone after doing it, fyi (garmin Foreunner 220)
Very useful thanks.
I do this and my watch doesn't beep.

hmmm so MENU | SYSTEM | RESTORE DEFAULTS erased all the data? That's odd, cause that's from the manual when I recorded the video.
Jim Cyr Same, my husband and I did a soft reset on my watch last night and all my previous activities/records/etc are gone. Pretty pissed as we made doubly sure this wouldn't happen!
This didn’t work.. the watch just stays frozen with the garmin logo on the screen

Jim Cyr No worries. I have annotations blocked in youtube, so I don't see them (most are annoying).
