Sault Ste. Marie is the best retirement area in America with incredibly cheaper home prices, great hospital and growing businesses. There are 80k plus Canadians who come shopping on the U.S. side. A gold mine? Yes!!! Sault Ste. Marie, the place to be. The new road and flowers make the business area look stunning. Bring your business, bring your family.
MY whole family lives here I love this city such a great place!
I was stationed at Kincheloe in the mid-70's, up to the date the base closed, September 1, 1977. My dog tags are somewhere in the power station basin where a girl I was dating threw them when I broke up with her! The Soo was nice during the summer, winters are tough!
Absolutely Beautiful ❤️💯 part of Michigan ❄❤🎄
My folks were caretakers at Iroquois Pt lighthouse, Ed and Inez Dorie and i have spent many a day there helping dad with alot of the little things that come up. Born and raised in the Soo and have since migrated west to Washington State. Heart is still there in the Soo.
I guess your a yooper eh?
Watching these videos always makes me want to live there
One of our favorite places to visit
What a well done video, Im sure you missed winter due to time constraints for production - but over all what a GREAT way to share the beauty of our community with the entire world! Pure Fantastic!!
You missed one place, Sugar Island! That is a great place to fish or get away for a week or two!
How can I get a copy of this!!!!! I was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie.....and this video shows so much personal growth and my history......I want my kids and their kids to show, to let them know what a beautiful place the Soo was for me to grow up!
I haven't lived in the Soo for over 50 years but, it is and always will be my home. Penny Sawasky
I to was born their! Chippewa Ojibwe. I guess that's the closest hospital to the reservation in 1972.
I've lived here all my life. You might as well see me in the Station Mall every now and then.
Hi I live in Oregon, headed up that way this summer/ will visit family In Marquette area, than travel your way. I am a little confused on some travel issues/ will drive from Marquette to your great town/ would like to pick up the train in Canada from there/. Do you have any idea how to do just that head towards Toronto? Thx David
@@dta97392 So how'd this trip all end up? The border is closed to tourists so that'll put a big damper to your visit! Regardless there's no train service from Sault Ontario to Toronto, at least none in the way for passengers as there's only freight lines.
If you really wanted a train to Toronto for posterity sake here's how that would work. You'd have to drive way up North on the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 17 North). At about 3.5 hours north you'd take a right at White River Ontario off the main highway onto Hwy. 631 to Hornepayne Ontario (pop. 980) and another 1 hour travel (Total hours 4.5 Soo to Hornepayne).
Once in Hornepayne you'd have to time it right as "The Canadian" Via Rail Passenger train travels across Canada on various days only.
In other words, it would be and is a very very very unreal way to get to Toronto and one that NO ONE does from Sault Ste. Marie because of the almost 5 hour drive North in remote Northern Ontario when Toronto is South East of Sault Ste. Marie on Highway 17 East (Trans Canada Hwy.)
I went to Lssu from 93-95. I turned 21 in what I think is three one three on Ashmun. Do you know off hand what bars were open during that time so when I turn 50 this coming April, I can go to the bars that were open then?
This is where BOTH of my parents grew up in! One, on Shrunk Rd, the other, on Johnston St. As a kid, this IS the ONLY place my sister and I went to, on vacation. And, we still love this town!! We have little or no family left, except in the grave yards! But, STILL WANT TO come home! I just wish people would remember the GREAT things about the SOO!! HOW fun the Tourist STRIP was! The Haunted Railroad, the rock shop, cheap and tacky tourist crap(that we all buy on these trips). Moccasins in EVERY Pattern, REAL FUDGE, in every flavor you can imagine and People going down to the Locks with ice cream and watching the fountain change colors! But, I guess, unless Big name shops come to the Soo on the locks, it doesn't really stand a chance!
Nope wrong, that's why a lot of people go to towns like these because just enough shops but more natural things and that reflects on the people that live there also. You get a better sense of what drives a place when there's less of something and more of the other and that I guess comes with experience. Myself I rather tend to like having places like this to be around...Hence why I live in this area!
Amazing Town 😃😍
Yes home sweet home
that's where I live
Well that video looked amazing now what does the Sault look like the other 3/4 of the year?
Cold and cover in snow.
Picture a snow globe after you tip it upside down and shake it. However, the great people in the area make those long, miserable winters tolerable.
damn so the michigan side just like our side idk y i have always wanted to see over that bridge
I hope to find job there and move to it. 😍
I'm about to head up that way in a week...it's pronounced "Soo Saint Marie"? I'm glad to know that because I don't want to sound like a jackass. I've already done a good job of that trying to pronounce Wisconsin's towns and cities. LOL
Nice place
Actually to be quite honest none of the restraunts in the soo mentioned are good to me but west pier OMG!!!!! It's the best food place in the city
You mean the best food in the entire state. Nothing can beat West Pier!
I was Born in This City
Yup been there done that I'm from newberry.in louisiana and hate it
I can't help but hear the parody videos in this.
born and raised and ive never been to the museum
Ahhhh, good times. I'm practically the god of the Soo. The brewery was owned by my first grade teacher.
Michigan up
Is tha t endmun fitzgeral?
Hmm no winter scenes
So it doesn’t snow there ?
yeah I'm pretty sure it snows there
It's sad the Soo has completely gone down the drain. I wish they'd invest in cleaning it up and bringing in more entertainment besides the locks.
Don’t forget caterpillars
Michigan as in Detroit?
Detroit is a city in the lower peninsula of Michigan.
YES! Michigan! LOL! Voted the Best State to live in 2018

What happened to that restaurant recently? I've heard mixed things about it over the past year. New ownership?
