The trick with Jinjer is to have no expectations. Don't try to predict or pre-empt what they're gonna do. Just listen and enjoy. It's an experience. Great analysis again mate I just know you're gonna love this album 👌 🤘
So excited for the next one, DISCLOSURE!!!!!! My fav off the new album. Also, did you notice how at 3:32 it kind of sounds like the guitar riff near the end of Entombment of a Machine by Job for a Cowboy.
Thanks for your thoughts! The song made me think of Meshuggah in two ways - without sounding like Meshuggah that much: 1) the title (of course) though Jinjer inject more uncertainty (of course): "I am colossus" vs. "Am I the colossus". 2) that fun off-beat stomping groove with all the hits on the 'ands'. It does not really sound like Meshuggah, but I get the same frustrating/hilarious sensation as with Meshuggahs Combustion in that I know and understand where the beat is, but my body just won't accept it... "The groove is mightier than the thought" if you excuse the pun. In the part just before the final chorus, I love how the 'fastest feet' of the song join the 'slowest hands' to crank up the tension (might not be scientifically correct, but feels this way to me). Always a journey.
It's Jinjer time. You know I really like what you are doing.this was a good idea. As usual sonically pleasing look at you a true rock star. I've been listening to metal my whole life and the fact that there's no guitar solos has never been problem for me it all just fits together so nicely. Absolutely awesome thanks for letting us enjoy it with you. Peace from Stan the Alaskan.
Love your song analysis ! My personal favorites so far are Disclosure and Copycat. But, the whole album is an absolute banger ! Keep up the good work !
Yah, im here happily headbanging, then the song's suddenly over and i'm left with this 'i haven't finished yet!' feeling >.< Great stuff regardless. Thanks, man!
For a brief moment (last night when I first watched this on phone screen) I thought you had bought the LP and it was hanging behind you on the wall :D Great stuff with the analysis as usual. I really like the friendly atmosphere and conversational approach you bring to these videos. Miles above the usual impersonal, semi-silent nod-fests which some *cough* most *cough* people keep churning out. I'm glad you're enjoying and sharing this journey with us. Your band Diamir sounds pretty solid (Atrophy playing now). Would like to hear more from them in the future.
Really appreciate you taking the time out to check my band. :) And nice comment on the 'lp on the wall'. I did try to make it blend in like some extra artwork on the wall haha. Glad you noticed! :D
@@JWSoundworks2 Hey it was my pleasure. Do you compose those songs for Diamir? Also I must compliment you on your thumbnail game. Very distinctive from the rest and quite unique look as well IMHO. Loving this album review.
@@JWSoundworks2 Though so. Had to ask because I've been listening to The Rupal Face lately and ears picked up some of the same essence here and there - although those are of course different music styles and genres.
Love your intro :-) And moore this song aaa outstanding! Cool you mention about the songs and how they with just 3 instruments make it sound so big...I also listen to like multilayer music such as anathema. katatonia opeth its not so common with 3 instrument band in metal. And to get it to sound like for ex. Vortex with 3 is insane. As Eugene always says i want to play so it feels rich when we only have one guitarr
I was having trouble sleeping a few nights ago because I had a damn earworm of a piece of music stuck in my head. I was trying to place what song it was until I finally realized that it was your intro music. I laughed out loud and woke my wife up..lol
Wow, I missed the premiere :( Really curious about your opinion I believe this track was written by Eugene - the lyrics definitely differ from the others on the record (these appear to be not personal but more like political or historical) and he said that he wrote 1 song and lyrics for it. I'm pretty sure his song was Colossus.
This track is my in top 5 from wallflowers. Can’t wait till you get to copycat. That one is also in my top 5. Love the analysis and breakdowns keep up the good work 👍🏽
Symbol was may Fav 5 listens in, 10 in it's Copycat. It's just a Mr. Bungle salad of Death/thrash/speed metal/grunge/pop/jazz fusion with Eugene's bass work. There'a A Lot packed into that 4 minutes :)
Quite fun overall, even upbeat & HEAVY! A definite workout. I have to mention Tatiana's heaviest growling towards the end, wow! Incredibly low & foreboding. Who does growls like that?? (rhetorical I know) Jinjer is in their own lane with skill & inventiveness. Roman, Eugene & Vlad continues to set a creative tone while Tatiana, the current Queen of Metal (IMHO), delivers on powerful messaging & impressive surprises. Another Banger...
There are a lot of Pantera vibes in this album. I particularly love Disclosure! and that's the biggest reminder of Pantera for me. Not complaining as I'm a big fan of groove in metal. After several listens this album is just fire.
Dude, that's unreal. I've just read your message now. But I finished recording my reaction to disclosure this morning. Still have to edit and upload it. And yes, I found myself talking about Pantera a LOT during that song!
@@JWSoundworks2 yeah I'm not suprised, it was my first though hearing that track, noting I had a few vibes from the earlier 2 tracks. There are more later in the album. I've seen a few fans suggest Alice in Chains as a similar sound too. Your intro is 🔥. Great analysis. I'm living for these vids. You mentioned in the past that you like Dog Fashion Disco. Have you heard of Polkadot Cadaver? It's just the DFD guys under a different name I think. I'd love to see either band's music analysed on the channel someday.
Oh yeah, Scott, big fan of the various DFD spin-offs including El Creepo. Think I've even worn my PC t shirt in a couple of these reactions now. The first PC album is an absolute blinder. Love everything the guys do, though. Jason and Todd are a dream team.
Cool reaction and NO you don't have brain damage, darkness & doom Are beautiful in the Arts. And "Yes" when you asked if the album is gonna take a natural progression of complexity. I've been listening as backround music in the house since the release, there's So much going on you need to absorb it double digit times to fully appreciate it. Disclosure is just a quick glimpse of why Tati is the most interesting vocalist on the scene..Then it's a Jinjer soup of genre's the next few tracks.
I feel for you dripping these out. I had to listen to the whole album. IMO the album gets more fun the further it gets. You may have to binge these. Regardless your piano privileges have been extended, and thanks continuing this. (Edited spelling, I hope)
We have a 2 year old in the house. It takes me about a fortnight to watch a film lol. I'm surprised that none of my videos have been hijacked yet - like that politician guy doing an interview on British news when his kids ran into the room during the Skype call 😂
Great stuff as usual. Is anybody else wondering how hugely popular of a single they could release, if they just sat on 2 or 3 phat grooves over which Tatiana stayed with singalong-able bluesy-tinged cleans, perhaps with a typically Vlad syncopated chunky breakdown?! I mean, I know they'd be bored with something so simple.... but imho they could so easily write a couple of festival killer hits. Just sayin'! :)
I agree, but that's the rub with progressive metal isn't it - you get a killer riff and it's gone within 4 bars & on to the next one. I've learnt to temper my disappointment & accept the fact I just get more riffs/beats/breakdowns/grooves for my money. The 3rd instance of the main riff in Disclosure! at about 2:30 is literally my favourite ever riff, I can't help giggling like a schoolgirl when I hear it, fills me with joy... But its over before you know it! I'd buy a track with just that riff in it repeated for a minute! But on the other hand, I have Gojira to do that for me 😅
Haha don't worry it's high on the list. I'm hitting the new Jinjer album hard at the moment so there'll be a spate of those coming imminently but rest assured I'll be back to Wintersun with "Time" ASAP seeing as it's been requested a fair bit! 🤘
Where does one draw a line between Thrash influences, Punk influences and Black? XD Throughout the album I definitely get quite a few of 'old school' moments like Thrash stuff or maybe Punk idunno also there are like brief seconds of just black metal to me. But it maybe just another person's Punk-ish moment.
"doing that Ulrich thing" would likely be meaning some sort of insult 99% of the time. But this is in the 1% where I legitimately meant it as NOT a bad thing 😂😂
I didn't like the first two tracks on the first listen, I think I was expecting something more challenging and elaborate, like Vortex. But I ended up enjoying it a lot. They are very energetic tracks
It's funny you mentioned superfluous stuff in music as I have always shied away from that, which is why I don't like bands like Nightwish...they're extremely talented for sure but I just don't like the overall sound. My favorite bands are those that keep it simple in band structure but can still create that multi-layered wall of sound. Jinjer has really hit that pinnacle to me and I think if you added anything, you'd really be subtracting from the whole. Their earlier stuff with the second guitarist was phenomenal as well but they still kept it real but they've really evolved since then.
I didn't. I literally just went onto Google beforehand and typed in "Jinjer - Wallflowers" and it shows the track list. Then I just typed in the name of the track into the youtube search and they're there. :)
