As I was uploading this video, I ran this donor G3 on some carpet areas that cause older Kirbys to periodically skip or hop. My wife was interested to experience this "extra stable" Kirby so she frantically attempted to force it to skip. It was a 100% no-go! Absolutely no transmission "nervousness" at all! As far as whine-noise reduction, meh results. Won't hurt anything but might not be worth the trouble just for a slightly quieter G series.
Nice job Bill , been there with a clip or screw left out . Then having to take apart . Great video with great music and info . Keep up the great work. I’ve yet to guess the vacuum right .
It seems like the Ultimate G or Diamond Edition was the changing point where the transmission became much quieter and smoother. Our G4 is very whiny and not as smooth. The Sentria 1s that I've had on my bench and in the house before and the current one that we have now were all much less whiny and were smoother overall. It would be really interesting if you'd be able to get a Sentria or later transmission apart to examine it for any obvious differences that could make it so much quieter. Helical or herringbone gears, maybe different clutch friction material, maybe different pressure plate material or a different "crosshatch" pattern on the pressure plate, etc. I'm not really sure, but it would 100% be cool to crack a newer one open and see what's inside that may be the answer.
The transmission speed change came about July of 2005 during the G7 run. The transmission difference wasn't actually inside the transmission but rather the two plastic gears and belt on the rear of the motor.
My g2000 le does this same whining noise , thought maybe I did something wrong in the refurb process , completely stripped down , wet sanded the body , buffed and polished . Then went onto the internals ,motor , trans, handle mechanisms, anything that moved and could be stripped down was done . Was excited to use it till I got back together to hear it whine like that .. cracking the case on the trans was the only thing I didn’t do. Also have the ultimate g diamond no whine once so ever … The gs wasn’t bought new so I don’t have a good comparison to go by , but did the g6’s whine like that new ?? Mines probably at least that loud, and seems like the faster I push the vac the more prominent the whine … I would be inclined to buy a new transmission if there was no whine with the new one …
@@VacLab I figured as much ,,, but figured I’d ask so I wasn’t assuming anything lol . I did order a new one off eBay …so I cracked the case open on mine using a heavier grease for cars .. almost got it the trans back together , so we’ll see how that goes , figured wth I just ordered a new one anyways lol Appreciate your reply
This suggests to me it is the clutch material on metal that is in fact making the whine. I’ve been watching this carefully trying to determine what is making my sentria one pop. It’s not the clicking from the pedal not fully disengaging drive, it’s a quite loud and defined pop that I can hear Over the vacuum running, usually happens when going from forward to backward especially when I’m going faster or turning it while changing direction, and only once in a while. Maybe I’ll grab some video of it. Best guess so far is it’s the drive gear on the rear axle skipping teeth but I don’t see any evidence of it. I’ll report back if I find the cause inside the tech drive.

Loved this video! Decided to open up my Diamond Edition transmission and yeah, it was very dirty. Currently in the process of reassembly.
Good video. Thanks for showing what is inside those transmissions.
Your welcome.
You are going this to all of your kirby's now, that is just how it goes
My noisy G4 might be the next. 😁

The clip was left out on purpose as specifically mentioned in the video. 😂

@@VacLab That gear and speed change was what eliminated most of the whining noise with the newer models?
@@mannys9130 yup.
@@VacLab Interesting. Is retrofitting possible?
@@mannys9130 see my first post. Only parts on the outside of the transmission have changed, so you are free to do whatever you want.

Can you post a video of the issue?
My workhorse Sentria does this as well. I haven't taken the time to troubleshoot it since it's intermittent.
@@mannys9130 My Sentria does it too. Must be something with the Sentria. My G3, G7, or Diamond Edition doesn't do it at all
Would’ve saved it! Kinda sad!
It was saved.
@@VacLab I think i accidentally commented idk how or why 😆
