Lyrics:
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston Town

Lyrics
Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls sway to and fro
I must declare my heart is there
Though I've been from Maine to Mexico
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Down the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
'Akey' rice, salt fish are nice
And the rum is fine any time of year
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Loved singing this song with my Dad
He is one of my favorite SINGER...HIS SONGS ARE VERY NICE TO HEAR.
I first heard this song as a child, on a remote station in PNG, on the radio. I never knew who sung it & or what it was called until after I had moved to Australia as a teenager. By then it had morphed from a dreamy beautiful song into a dreamy poignant bittersweet song because I too had to leave my family behind. Gives me all the feels. Thankyou for your music Harry that found me, many years ago by chance. Safe journeys on & never stop singing.
Oh how I loved this song, and sang it, during my primary school days. The words are still in my head ❤❤❤
